Today we’re gonna talk all about ice and it has some really interesting things and and one type of ice you probably you’ve probably never never heard of you probably didn’t know about it so here we are inside of minecraft this is my minecraft realm actually ooh la la Fancy i’m doing my episodes in the cloud now so we’re going to cover a ton of facts about ice and first we’re going gonna start off with facts that are true with any type of ice and as you can see here there’s four four different types of ice And uh in the thumbnail i kind of teased it that yo there’s four different types of ice you can probably name three of them right i mean i’ll just do it for you you got normalized this is ice next is packed ice this is the opaque version of Ice that you cannot see through and then finally you have blue ice which is the fancy super fast uber-duper slippery ice that is kind of newer it’s the newer of the ices but we have this fourth block of ice here any guesses on what this is In the chat room uh there’s no chat room this is um this yeah i don’t know what i’m talking about so uh down here we actually have another piece of that type of ice so you can see that it is different it’s not just normal ice recreated over here so i’m using this Command block to make sure that there is a piece of ice sitting right here so you can see that it is different it does stand out as a different type of ice compared to the others and if i come up here and try to grab it i Actually can’t so normally you know i can use my pick block on my mouse to pick up any of these but when i come over to this one i can’t do it can’t do it so it’s just a mystery i’m going to get to that in just A moment as to what fourth type of ice that is in general with ice you do need silk touch in order to be able to pick it up and that is true with any of the different types of ice if you try to use your hand you are just going to break The ice right now i have these command blocks set to constantly be placing a piece of ice right here in front of me so as i break it it will create another one but you can see that it does drop the ice entities the uh the blocks of Ice here so that’s true with normal ice but if i just use my hand to break this you can actually see that it turns into water we’re going to get into a why that turns into water in just a moment and then that command block quickly replaces It with a piece of ice over here with packed ice it does not drop either the block or doesn’t turn into water but i can’t get it unless if i have the silk touch enchantment on my tool in order to pick up that eye so you do need silk Touch in order to pick up all of the various types of ice except for the last a weird creepy piece of ice what is this one even with silk touch i am not able to pick this up and by the way this is not some cheaty type of ice That is unobtainable in the game this is really anybody with uh like mid game could get this type of ice so it’s not like some weird nbt edited ice that doesn’t exist anywhere no this is uh this is this is this is stuff that you could actually get you’re gonna Leave that mystery for just a little bit longer if there is a block that is not a full sized block then it will take over the properties of the ice underneath so you can see that i slip and slide and if i stop moving on this ice i’ll slide a Little bit longer same thing if i’m on the carpet and i stop moving i will slide and same thing on these slabs right here even though i’m picking up if i’m sprinting on carpet you can see i’m picking up the ice particles underneath but if i’m on slabs i’m actually picking Up the slab particles and i’m still slipping and sliding around on this ice which is pretty cool except for soul sand so soul sand slows you down and if you put ice underneath soul sand it makes you move even slower oh my gosh this is like could you imagine The slowest you could possibly like ever move in minecraft is probably crouching while moving on soul sand with ice underneath and we’re trying to try to make this the slowest possible way to move and and having a bow oh my gosh i move so slow i am actually Pushing forward and i am slightly moving this is like it would take an hour to move like three blocks that is the slowest you could possibly i should make a video about that what is the slowest you can possibly actually move in minecraft and i think that might be the Answer that may be it that is the slowest you would ever move soul sand it doesn’t matter if it is packed ice blue ice fancy mystery ice whatever ice is below the soul sand you’re gonna move the same amount of slowness okay i feel like i have kept you guys waiting long Enough what is this mystery piece of ice well it is an ice that is called frosted ice so you have normal ice packed ice blue ice and frosted ice and so you can see over here in this command block i have it set to set frosted ice right There and it is placing it negative one and five blocks away and so if we look that is actually frosted ice now how do you give frosted ice i mentioned that it is not a crazy cheaty type of ice and to be honest it’s not you get frosted ice from the frost Walker enchantment so this is some leather boots with the frost walker enchantment and if you are standing on a solid block and then transition to water then you will yourself create frosted ice and this ice is different because it melts it melts over time now normal ice will also melt But this ice melts much much faster if it has access to sunlight so it melts in the sun unlike any of the other types of ice so you can see behind me this trail of frosted ice it has that cracked sort of texture on it and then it will break And it’ll break pretty quickly after you after you leave some cool things about frosted ice is that it will not disturb sugar cane so if you happen to have a sugarcane farm and accidentally walked over it with your frost walker normally sugarcane needs access to a water source but if it Is frosted ice it will not break the sugar cane which is really nice so one thing is that these command blocks are constantly placing ice over and over and over again and so if i set them to not constantly place ice you can finally see that ice crack and break into Water into whatever it was before it was frosted ice okay now back to normal ice normal ice uh has some interesting properties one is that if you break ice with anything below it so this ice right here we’ll just go ahead whoops of course i’m i’m in creative mode okay Let’s do this again in survival mode that’s uh that’s probably kind of needed so if we break this and there is a block underneath that ice then it will break into water a water source block but if there is no block underneath so we have this sort of floating ice here then It’ll just break without creating that water source block so if you are you know have a whole bunch of ice and you happen to be underneath it and you can make that ice hollow underneath you can go ahead and break it without the worry of water sources you know spilling Everywhere moving on to packed ice this is what packed ice looks like and uh we’ve been you know we’ve seen it a few times packed ice is interesting because you can make it from normal ice so if we put normal ice in the crafting grid you’ll get packed ice but you’ll notice That we need nine stacks of ice in order to make one stack of packed ice because of that nine to one ratio it is very inefficient to first mine ice and then turn it into packed ice in the crafting table so that’s not really recommended where would you get packed Ice well i feel like the easiest way to get packed ice is from icebergs we happen to be in a frozen ocean and so every once in a while in a frozen ocean you will get some icebergs you can also get them from ice spikes or ice plain Spikes biomes but i find that the icebergs have a lot more of the packed ice available and it’s a lot easier to get because you don’t have to climb onto crazy spikes you can normally easily climb up the side of an iceberg and be able to harvest all of that ice now this Packed ice is not a renewable resource other than the fact that ice is a renewable resource and technically you could you know keep doing you could keep harvesting ice to get packed ice but this ice inside of the icebergs it does not regenerate so after you mine all of The icebergs within a close proximity of your world you’re going to have to venture out and find a new source of that packed ice there’s also a small chance that wandering traders will have packed ice to sell it’s a one in six chance and they will sell that for three Emeralds unlike normal ice packed ice will not melt when next to any of the different blocks that create heat in a way to melt ice almost all of the light emitting blocks will create this heat in order to melt the ice so this was normally if i break this torch uh this Was all ice it’ll actually start to re-solidify here if we give it enough time but it was that torch was sitting on a bit of packed ice to make sure that it wouldn’t melt away and that torch would stay there so packed ice does not melt the same way that normal ice does And so that is a nice feature if you’re trying to add ice to a build that doesn’t that can’t melt or and that you have some light sources in packed ice is your answer also packed ice is opaque so you cannot see through it like you can With normal ice which is i don’t know it’s good and bad it is what it is if you put packed ice underneath a note block it’ll make a fancy chime sound And you know without it this is what it sounds like so packed ice will create a new instrument when attached to a note block moving on let’s talk about blue ice so just like how ice could make packed ice well now you can use packed ice to make blue ice and the conversion Is exactly the same in that you need nine of the packed ice to make a single piece of blue ice so that entire stack of packed ice only made seven blue ice very very sad now blue eyes does also naturally generate so it will naturally generate at the bottom of iceberg so This right here that is some blue ice and that is by far the easiest way that you are going to get blue ice in minecraft it does generate in a few other locations they can be found in villages and it can also be found in chests there’s a 9.9 chance that a snowy Village chest will contain one piece of uh a stack of one piece of blue ice so you can get it there but once again icebergs are really the best place to harvest it wandering traders have that same one in six chance of trading for blue ice although it’ll cost you six Emeralds where normal packed ice or just packed ice will cost you three emeralds so double the price the differences between ice can be pretty amazing so this will be some uh frosted ice right here we have normal ice packed ice and blue ice and the difference between normal ice packed Ice and blue ice when it comes to movement is that each version is slippier more slippery that’s the way to describe it than the last so you have your normal kind of speed and slippingness then a little bit more slippy and then even more slippy so here let’s go ahead and Just create some of uh that and just test this out this is the speed that you would move on the frosted ice this is the speed that you moved on normal ice whoa i jumped that this is the speed on packed ice even faster and finally blue Ice which is going to be the fastest of the versions so a lot of people will use blue ice in long tunnels especially in the nether where you move more blocks than you do in the overworld and so they’ll put down blue ice that’s why it’s like so Lucrative almost so awesome to have they’ll put down blue ice as railroads basically and use boats to move across them very very quickly and finally in the bedrock editions of the game blue ice gives off a little bit of light and this is true for the education edition because that’s Basically based off of the bedrock edition so if i break all of this you can see that it gets really dark if i put one right in the center of the room it brightens it up just a bit which is like super weird ice gives off light huh If you knew about frosted ice congrats to you i mean you you are a true minecraft expert i had for i knew about it but i had forgotten that if someone was like what name the fourth type of ice i would have not been able to name frosted ice as the Fourth type of ice myself i hope you enjoyed this episode of omg crap if you did please give this video a big ol thumbs up also make sure you subscribe for future videos tips tricks tutorials and spotlights here on omgcraft and i’ll see you on the
