The Minecraft Experiment: A Unique Community Project
Minecraft, a game of endless possibilities, has inspired many new and innovative ideas. One such idea was sparked by a video from Tom Scott, which inspired a unique Minecraft project that has never been done before. The project is an experiment in which every viewer of a YouTube video contributes to creating something within the game. The goal is to work together as a community and accomplish a task that would only be possible with a massive group of people.
The Original Concept
The original idea was to fill a void world, a world completely empty with no blocks, by setting the world border to a small area and having every view of a YouTube video contribute to placing a random block from a list of all possible block types in that area. However, this idea was scrapped due to the immense number of views required and the uninteresting end product.
The Realistic Concept
After discarding the original idea, the creator of the project, TheMisterEpic, came up with a new plan. For every view the video gets, one block would be placed in the center of an empty void world, and as more views accumulate, this center mass, or “blob,” would grow larger and larger. The differences in the blob size over time would be easily noticeable, and a 24/7 livestream was set up to watch the blob’s growth in real-time.
The “Tree”
The project was implemented with a plugin that would place a random block out of over 700 different blocks for every view a video got. The blocks would be placed in the center of the world initially and would begin growing over time. However, after some testing, the growth of the blob became predictable and slow, leading to a less interesting shape.
The Experiment
Despite the initial setbacks, the project continued to evolve, with the creator and their team trying different algorithms to make the blocks grow in a more interesting shape. The experiment was streamed live for at least one week, allowing viewers to witness the blob’s progress and expansion in real-time.
Despite the challenges faced, the Minecraft experiment represents a unique and innovative way for a community to come together and contribute to a shared project. The project is a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of the Minecraft community, showcasing the endless possibilities within the game.
