Building in minecraft is hard it took me a really long time of playing this game to get comfortable with it thankfully i’m now in a pretty good position and i’m able to pass on some of my knowledge to you wonderful people and hopefully help you improve your building skills so Here are 10 ways to improve your minecraft builds first up we have what i consider to be the most important of them all having a creative test world to plan your builds and mess around with some ideas being able to have access to every single block in the game is super Helpful when it comes to building not to mention the ability to fly and instantly break blocks too building in creative mode is just so much easier than it is in survival you can focus on the actual building and let the creative juices flow without having to worry about the aspects of survival Eating tools breaking death all that fun stuff this doesn’t mean you have to use it to plan every build occasionally it is nice to make something off the cuff in your world without any prior planning but generally it’ll take less time and you’ll be able to build better in Creative mode so if you don’t already have one get yourself a creative world and start practicing something you can do to take your build to the next level is terraform and landscape the area around it it’s all well and good making a beautiful build but if you just plonk It somewhere and do nothing else it can look a little bit out of place now this doesn’t mean you have to construct a giant mountain range behind it and build thousands of custom trees all around you could it would look awesome but that is a lot of work instead it may just mean Something as simple as cleaning up the ugly parts of the generated land changing up the texture in the terrain growing some regular minecraft trees adding in a pond here and there or even just spamming some bonemeal can help all you’re trying to do is integrate your build into the minecraft world so it Looks like it belongs now as i said you can turn a simple minecraft build into a huge terraforming project if you can do it well there’s no doubt it’s gonna look better than regular terrain but ever since 1.18 there is some seriously amazing generation that takes place in The world so if you’re not up for a mammoth terraforming task just make sure you take the time to scout out a good spot to build in your world the setting around it is just as important as the build itself next up we’re gonna talk about depth now this is something that Can greatly improve the look of your build take a glance at this comparison here we have the front of the house with next to no depth added in and here we have that same house with much more depth really all we’re doing is pushing parts of the build back by one or two Blocks you can always go further back than that but it might start to look a little bit strange unless you’re building on a much bigger scale for a small and simple house i’d recommend adding in a frame of sorts and then where you want to have your windows that Is where you can add in the depth you can also smooth out that transition by adding in some stairs slabs and trapdoors like so you don’t really want a harsh change in depth it needs to be a bit more gradual even just doing something as simple as using glass panes Instead of full glass blocks and then placing some stairs either side can make a huge difference lastly something else you can do is make sure you have an overhang on your roof and it isn’t just flat with the rest of the build all of these tricks combined can create A much better looking house choosing which blocks to use in your build is super important you want to try and use a wide range of different blocks instead of just sticking to a handful this is another time when that creative world is gonna come in really handy because you Can test out what blocks look good together and what blocks don’t i would encourage you to try branching out a little bit and maybe use some blocks that might not be so obvious at first in my survival world at the moment i’m really trying to build with some unusual Block palettes for my builds and it’s been really fun also make sure you’re using the minecraft blocks to their full potential if a block has stairs slabs walls and trap doors as well as other variants use those too finally try and use some blocks that complement each other instead of just Using some that look similar basically have a play around with what you think looks good as a colorblind person i don’t think it would be wise of me to try and teach you color theory but it’s that sort of thing here’s something that i absolutely love to do with my builds And i think it totally changes how you look at them that is the idea of adding life and movement so this can be done in a lot of ways really maybe you could have some villagers roaming around you can make use of some blocks with particles in that you’ll be able to see You could build an active minecart track and see a minecart whizz by every now and then or even just incorporate some animals or pets into your build this game is very static in nature you can’t really get much to move around so when you’re looking at a build and you see Something move or change it really grabs your attention and can make the build feel much more alive there’s many more things in this game that i didn’t mention that you can add into your build to get a bit of movement just have a think of what isn’t necessarily a building block but can Still be a part of the build that isn’t the only way you can get your build to have a sense of life you can also build things that are in motion if that makes sense for example a rocket mid-flight with the plume shooting out from underneath Another way you can add life is to make small details around your build that almost tell a story and make it seem lived in maybe there is a small campsite that some travelers once stayed in or possibly some sort of ruined structure that’s decayed over thousands of years Hopefully you get the idea you’re basically just adding lore into your world sometimes when we build in minecraft it can look sort of plain and boring this is when the idea of texturing comes in so let’s say you’re making a stone tower you start by just using stone bricks and when you’re done It just seems a bit too bland now this is where you can go around and mix in some other stone types crack stone bricks and the sight and stone in this case it’s simple but really effective of course this doesn’t only work for stone it can work for just about any block as Long as there are a couple of other blocks that look sort of similar you can combine them and create something that feels a bit more interesting to look at i’d recommend only doing this for areas if you’re build where you’re using a lot of the same block so if you’ve got a big Chunk of your build or made out of the same material it can look a bit harsh on the eyes so adding in that texture is really helpful there but if you’re using a block that isn’t taking up a large area it’s not really needed something else i quickly want to touch on is Gradient texturing everything i’ve already said applies here too the only difference is when you’re mixing in the texture you want to do it in a gradient if you don’t know what that is then pretty much it’s when you go from one color to another but there’s a gradual Change sort of like you’re adding in a smooth transition just an example you can go from white concrete powder to calcite diorite and the site stone cobblestone tough deep slate and then cobbled deep slate you can kind of see how we’re slightly changing color or Shade here now i want to talk about how you can take your single shaped house and turn into something that is much better looking i think the best way to describe this is that it’s like you’re adding extensions onto your house so instead of just having four walls and a Roof you can add some other sections off to the side of the house round the back coming out of the roof or even a tower connected to the build in my opinion a build like this looks quite a bit more interesting and complex than something like this When you’re designing a build of this nature i find it’s easier to start with one part of the build and gradually add on the other extensions as we’re calling them until you get to a point that you’re happy with sometimes it may mean taking a step back and looking at what Parts of the build feel like it’s missing something the next tip is getting a good mix of looks and function you want to try and strike a good balance between those two in your buildings especially if you’re going to be living inside of it so depending on Your play style you may fall either side of that spectrum perhaps when building you just want your house to look pretty so all the functionality kind of goes out the window which may make living in there kind of difficult on the other hand you may prioritize to function and Then lose out in the looks department let’s say you’re building your survival base of course you want to have everything you need to survive inside of it that’s very important but there’s no harm in adding some things that are purely there for aesthetic purposes and Do nothing of use it’s just so that it looks nice another way you can mix looks with function is hiding any ugly farms or machines with something that looks a lot nicer for example in my survival world i made a super smelter it would have looked pretty terrible if i just Built this on the surface and left it there so instead i hid it far underground and on top i made a steampunk inspired foundry i even connected the cooked materials to a water stream so i can see all of the items shoot up through the build and Into storage if you’ve been playing in your world long enough there’s a good chance you have lots of builds dotted all around something you can do to make them look a little bit nicer is bring some sort of cohesion to your world and connect them all together the main way You can do this is by adding pathways around your world leading from build to build this just helps bring everything together and makes your builds feel more like one big build as opposed to lots of little ones even if something you’ve built is really far away it can be quite Enjoyable to build a long dirt road that you can walk to and from on you can also use the idea of terraforming and landscaping to achieve this connection having all of your builds be surrounded by similar custom terrain certainly makes it feel like one and the same the Final tip i want to tell you guys is detail your builds this is a really important aspect to building that can take your house from looking a little bland and boring to super interesting and elaborate now i could talk forever about all of the different types of Detailing you can add to your builds so instead of making this video go on for much longer than it needs to all i’m going to do is get some footage of the details in my builds from my other worlds and show them to you like i have Been here hopefully most of them are fairly self-explanatory so you can understand what it is that i’ve built and get some ideas that way i think it’s best to add in all of the details as a final step for your build so once you’ve gotten the main build in place you go Around and add in all of the little bits of detail that just ties everything together so there we go everybody those are 10 ways to improve your minecraft building i really hope this video has helped you out but if you feel like you could use some more pointers then you Can check out my 100 building tips and tricks video that hopefully should be on the screen now it covers quite a lot more than this video does 10 times the amount actually now one thing i quickly want to mention is that everything i’ve said in this video isn’t necessary you Don’t have to incorporate these tips into your play style to make your builds good every minecraft build is good so long the person making it thinks so or what i’ve said in this video and will continue to say in my other videos are simply just tips as long as you’re Having fun and enjoying building that’s all that really matters but thank you ever so much for watching this video i hope you enjoyed and i will see you next time bye for now Video Information
