12 Hidden Features in Minecraft 1.14

What are the hidden features in minecraft 1.14 that nobody’s told you about so here we are inside of minecraft and if you experience something like this in minecraft 1.13 ha you would be just out of luck if you tried to crouch to get underneath it well that was just a

Visual crouch not actually a crouch that would get your player any smaller but not correct in 1.14 now you can actually crouch and your player is small enough to fit through this half block uh gap here so the ceiling has been lowered by half a block

This is only one and a half blocks tall and the player can fit through it as long as you’re playing in 1.14 and you can actually see this visually if you hit f 3 and b on a pc java edition and all that does is show the hit boxes of

Creatures so you can see out here in the ocean there’s a whole bunch of hitboxes you can see around my player there is a hitbox and if i shift that hitbox gets smaller so if i stand really close you can see that the hitbox itself shrinks so that a player can fit

Underneath a one and a half block gap you may have known this if you’ve played uh for a little bit but it’s not it hasn’t really been talked about uh a ton that your hitbox actually shrinks another pro tip is that if you’re in a pvp situation where you are or really

Pve or really any situation where you’re fighting something you can shift to make your hitbox smaller that is what actually is if a arrow hits the hitbox that’s when you get hit if a player hits the hitbox that’s when you get hit so if you shift if you if it’s possible that you

Can shift you can actually reduce the size of your hitbox by half block which is a lot that’s 25 that is a 25 smaller area to hit whenever you are crouching next is this number two the jigsaw block now a lot of videos covered the jigsaw block when it first

Came out and i’ll be honest this block still confuses me uh to this day this is a technical block uh it’s similar to the other technical blocks in that you can only get it from getting uh from using uh commands so just like the command block or the barrier block you have to

Give you have to use the commands in order to uh to to get this yourself this block is used in creating the structure files that we’ve seen for the villages for the pillager outpost so those structure files which you use the structure block in order to create you

Can use these jigsaws to link those together so if we click into one of these you can see the target pool the attachment type and then what the what it turns into after the jigsaw has been called and has been attached so if you wanted to create some type of build or

Maybe a like sprawling build that uses lots of jigsaw types then you could fill these in with what it could possibly be maybe it could be a building maybe it could be a farm type or whatever and then it’ll grab another jigsaw from that pool and attach it onto here

Uh this is just the attachment type and then what it would turn into so let’s say this was sitting in some farmland then it could turn into some farmland or like here on this beach if i had placed it inside of a block like this it could turn into sand

And look like it disappeared after it was called uh like i said before these are a little bit more technical than i’ve worked with uh previously and so i’m still not 100 positive how this would practically be used if you were trying to make something make some type

Of structure block creation uh also it should be noted that you can see the arrows and the jigsaw piece that is where all of these connect so if you were trying to uh make it so that they went together you would oh my gosh i can’t build oh who’s

A minecrafter they can’t even build there we go so these two would connect so this would be in one structure file down here so like everything down here would be in one structure file and then everything boop over here would be in another you can kind of see the sand

Versus the diorite as two different areas and then they would connect together and live like little puzzle pieces that meant to match up and that’s how you would use them so jigsaw blocks that’s another sort of hidden thing in minecraft 1.14. next i could try to find a mushroom biome you

Know mycelium islands ah this it’s not gonna happen we’re just gonna cheat uh we’re just gonna cheat this one in uh what we need is the mooshroom here and these obviously naturally spawn on mushroom islands like i am talking about uh and the hidden part of these is if

These guys get hit with lightning lightning bolt they turn brown now i’ve covered this in a few different videos i think this is one of the really fun hidden features of the snapshot uh that your red mushrooms can turn into brown mushrooms and if they get hit again

They turn back there’s this really cool sound animation and whatnot very very neat that they built in such a fun little easter egg they don’t have to get hit directly by the way as you can see uh that uh you know i’m kind of off to the side

And they still they still transfer sorry i’m sure that that lightning is very loud uh if you want to do this yourself and have a very rare mob one that doesn’t even naturally spawn in minecraft unless if you you know do the unless of a red mushrooms around and

Happens to naturally get hit with lightning uh but still it doesn’t actually naturally spawn as in pop into the world when the world spawns uh the easiest way to do this yourself in survival is to get the channeling i like to call it the changeling effect

Because i i’m wrong uh but it you can get that channeling effect on a trident and anytime that it is raining then if you hit something with that effect with the trident uh it will call down some lightning and uh and you know cause you know anything that you

Could supercharge creepers you can change red mooshrooms into brown mushrooms uh it’s some really really cool stuff and that is the easiest way to get lightning to strike twice in the same spot that you want number four happens to do with these lovely little guys pandas

Uh i was looking i was looking forever for some pandas and and now i found a few but before all i could find were these dark sheep now i can’t even find the sheep oh my gosh i’m lost i’m lost in minecraft but hey these pandas

Are super duper adorable but they hold a secret just like with sheep that sometimes spawn in different colors these guys will spawn in different variants like playful and happy and sad and angry and whatnot but there’s one that is super duper rare and hidden it’s not actually hidden

Because it just naturally spawns all over the place but that is the brown panda turn on there we go okay so oh my gosh it’s a it’s a it’s a panda fountain but there you go you can see him before he dies oh my gosh he’s died

Okay we happen to have another save save the panda save the panda okay i’m giving you more giving you more space mr panda don’t die uh but here you go this is a brown panda very rare only a few out of 100 uh pandas will be brown very similar to the

Pink sheep uh because pink sheep is also another very very rare mob but that one came out forever ago this one is a 1.14 hooray brown panda number five also happens to do with pandas so we’re just gonna keep this group of pandas around and there you saw

It that’s what just happened you got a little sickly baby panda and they sneeze every once in a while and it causes all the pandas around that sneezing panda to jump it’s like adorable little sneeze particle that causes the the pandas to jump up in the air number six this uh happens to

Deal with our favorite internal wiring mechanic in minecraft that is redstone and the fact that redstone can now be placed on to glass which is actually really really cool it used to be that glass and ice i don’t i still think that ice cannot it cannot be placed on top of

Ice redstone and water uh just does not get along so i doubt that this is still possible oh oh my god i can oh my lanta oh gosh oh that’s so cool okay so uh now redstone can be placed onto non-transparent blocks so now redstone can be placed on glass which is pretty

Darn cool uh it i think does it still yeah so this is still works very similar to other transparent blocks like the slabs and whatnot where the redstone still sort of connects as you can see it goes up over here and then it also goes up over

Here which is an easy way to make redstone go vertically so you can see that it powers all the way up here but it doesn’t do that the same direction so it’ll only go just one over and not go down um but building on glass is really really nice because sometimes your

Builds may just need it uh and it’s a cool transparent thing there’s another really really neat feature of this which is redstone has no bottom texture so you can basically make invisible redstone because the redstone dust that is uh other redstone things like redstone blocks and and you know lanterns and

Stuff they have textures but redstone dust doesn’t have a bottom texture so you cannot see the redstone on the other side of this glass same thing with this these textures is that there’s redstone here but you don’t see it on this side and same thing here you

Don’t see it on this side so uh it kind of disappears on the other side of glass which is kind of neat number seven this has to do with leaves decaying in the game and this is a change that the first time that i saw it i was almost like

What am i playing like in a modded world like what the heck what is this that is that when leaves decay not only do they have a chance of dropping the sapling of the tree that they are from uh and also oak trees have the chance of dropping

Apples but they also have a chance of dropping sticks on the ground as the leaves go away so we’ve destroyed all the logs in this area and as you can see we got lots of saplings on the ground also my minecraft is chunking along not doing so great but you can see that

That these sticks are also falling on the ground at the same time so now leaves are a good source of sticks in the game number eight there have been lots of new sign updates i’ve covered them before deliberate signs that sort of stuff but one nice thing is that now

Things like copy so i can do control a to copy ctrl c to sorry control a to select ctrl c to copy move down and ctrl v to paste so there’s copy paste i can also cut move it around paste it here that is really nice that you can

Actually do copy paste and cut all inside of a sign you also can move the cursor around so uh let’s say up here oh i didn’t want that a there there we go this was all impossible to do before you had to actually delete all of the letters ahead of

Something before you c could edit anything inside of a sign so i really like the text updates with the sign next has to do with vines vines have always been a a thing in minecraft that you can uh climb up just like a ladder if this here on the block and just climb

Straight up it but now in 1.14 you can climb up vines without any supporting block behind it so here we are in this vine and there we go we can climb all the way up and this is not just because i am in creative mode so we’ll switch into

Survival you can see as long as we are on the face of this vine we can climb all the way up it which there really is no other thing in minecraft this one has to grow one more block down here in order for me to

Grab it this one i can i should be able to grab there we go uh there really isn’t anything else in minecraft that is transparent like this that you can also climb up unless if you count scaffolding blocks um but uh this is i think this is a really cool addition

To the vines is that this is like a rope ladder you could like toss down a ladder to someone and they can jump at it and climb up it can we get there we go oh man if i’m i good thing i’m not a parkworm like known for parkour because

I’m so bad at parkour there we go look at that amazing dead bushes have been in minecraft for a very very long time every once in a while when you punch them you’ll get some sticks from them and sticks can be now used as fuel for a little while that

Sticks have been able to be used as fuel but you can also use shears to pick up dead bushes without actually breaking them and without the use of silk touch which is nice but that brings us to something that had to change it just absolutely had to

Change and that is that now dead bushes can be used as fuel for your furnace that’s right so you’re trying to smelt up some iron got some dead bushes now they’re used as fuel which they weren’t before so this is this is great now you can use your your

Double chests full of dead bushes to fuel your iron smelting purposes no one has this many dead bushes but hey if you have dead bushes yours is fuel there’s been an interesting change with wolves which now allow the wolves to act as the player when they are killing something so if i

Summon in a skeleton right here wolves automatically go after skeletons either that or they just jump up and down and dance but now as they kill this skeleton one of the things you’ll notice is that it drops experience and the only time that a mob drops experience when it dies

Is when the player kills that mob so as you can that is my way of explaining that now wolves will act as player kills when it comes to uh to these types of kills in fact this may be a great option for skelly spawners and skelly farms and

Mob grinders because the wolves will automatically kill things uh that are are in that grinder for you and then you’ll get all the experience along with all of the loot just as if you had killed it yourself and finally number 12 over here in the options is this accessibility settings which gives you

Access to all of the accessibility options that we’ve kind of already had in minecraft and some that we haven’t so uh text background chat text background uh this is the background on names and things like that on text like if you have something named like a dog or something

Like that uh what it opacity should be uh where the shadow pass you should be if you have narrator subtitles auto jump all of these are now found in one nice menu called accessibility settings i keep on my subtitles uh for these videos and now you could if you want to do the

Same you can turn them on here uh a lot of these are in other places as well so like auto jump is in the controls if i turn it on over here you can see over here now auto jump is on if i turn it off over here back in controls it is

Turned off so a lot of these settings have other locations uh same thing with chat settings you kind of have like your chat background and whatnot um now that is all collated in one little area so that you can easily find it and there you have it all of the hidden slash
