What’s up guys i’m josh carlin dreamworks tv’s resident cryptozoologist and yes that is a real word now we all know mythical beasts are made up but did you know some of them are based on misinterpretations of real animals get ready to uncover the truth with these five crazy cool epic awesome funny weird Wild unexpected true facts about real mythological creatures number five the cyclops in ancient greek mythology these giant one-eyed creatures were known for eating human flesh at the time people thought they were real since huge skulls with one socket could be found in the area as well as giant bones But really these so-called cyclops skeletons were just woolly mammoth fossils the hole that they thought was the massive eye socket was actually where the trunk goes to be honest i can see how they got confused by that part but what did they think the tusks were yeah overgrown molars ugh he needs braces Number four the kraken in the early 1800s many sailors reported seeing massive sea monsters with octopus-like tentacles attacking ships but in more recent years scientists have speculated that those kraken were actually just giant squid which can grow up to 50 feet long the size of the giant squids were then Probably exaggerated by the storytellers because well that’s just what they did before we had tv cool story bro number three yetis these mythical beasts have supposedly been sighted all over nepal big and hairy with sharp teeth and an appetite for livestock but most animal experts will tell you that these yeti are probably Just bears specifically the himalayan brown bear which is known to sometimes stand on its hind legs while hunting so if you think you’re being chased by a hungry yeti don’t worry you’re probably just being chased by a hungry bear no no wait keep running keep running number two mermaids Fabulous fishtailed ladies and totally fictional some explorers including christopher columbus himself claimed to have spotted these flippard females but in reality what they were looking at were manatees friendly aquatic mammals native to the new world maybe that explains why columbus wrote that they were quote not half as beautiful as they are painted Ah don’t worry manatees i still think you’re kinda cute and your number one mythological creature that really exists but not in the way you expect it to is unicorns do i really need to explain what these are unicorns people sparkling magical wonderful unicorns and in medieval europe most people thought they really Existed because unicorn horns could be found everywhere vikings would sell them for gold and in denmark in the 1600s the royal throne was supposedly made entirely out of them but it turns out what they really had were narwhal horns and while a blubbery whale might not be as majestic as a Unicorn it’s safe to say they’re much better swimmers no get back here i’ll save you take my hand there they are the awesome origins of five fictional creatures thanks for watching and remember to subscribe to dreamworks tv for more five facts i’m off to go slay a dragon Hey guys do you have a subject you want to learn more about let us know by commenting below and remember to subscribe to dreamworks tv for more episodes of five facts every week thanks guys bye Video Information
