Players report failed world upgrades locking them out of saves just days after the 26.2 launch while advertised sulfur cube features have vanished from the final release.
Minecraft dropped its big summer update on June 16 and the goodwill did not last long. Within 72 hours players discovered that worlds created in 26.1.2 often fail to upgrade correctly to the new version. The result ranges from infinite loading screens to complete lockouts that require restarting the entire computer before another attempt.
wattles walked through multiple cases in a video posted yesterday including one where an Ender Boss world refused to convert. The creator noted that simply reporting the bug leads to it being marked resolved even though the save remains broken for the player. Backups are now mandatory advice before touching the new content.
Cut Features and Other Headaches
The sulfur cube mob took the heaviest hit. Pre-release trailers showed it with emoting faces and the ability to contain blocks inside baby variants. None of that made it into the shipped game. Multiplayer users are also running into chat failures tied to Microsoft account settings while Bedrock players report added lag in the new sulfur caves.
- World upgrade failures that can lock players out of existing saves
- Sulfur cube missing animations and internal block features shown in trailers
- Multiplayer chat broken until specific online/Xbox settings are adjusted
- Noticeable lag spikes on Bedrock Edition in the new biomes
- Bug reports being prematurely closed despite ongoing issues
The fix list is short right now. Restarting your machine sometimes lets the upgrade process continue. Otherwise the official line is to report it through the launcher and wait for a patch. In the meantime anyone with cherished builds should back up their worlds twice before updating.
Reception to the full package has been lukewarm. The sulfur caves and new blocks look sharp but the launch bugs and missing polish have soured the launch for a chunk of the player base. Mojang will likely push a quick pre-release or hotfix but the damage to trust is already done.
