Mojang pushed the first test build of the fall update yesterday. It delivers a new forest biome, poplar wood set, shelf mushrooms, wool stairs and slabs, plus abandoned camps with loot. Players jumped in immediately.

If you booted up the launcher in the last 24 hours you probably saw the new snapshot option. 26.3 Snapshot 1 is now available for Java and the matching Bedrock preview dropped alongside it. After the sulfur-heavy Chaos Cubed drop this one shifts back toward surface exploration and building.
What actually changed
The Dappled Forest generates with layered leaf colors and tall poplar trees that yield a full wood set including stripped variants, doors, traps, fences and signs. Shelf mushrooms grow on logs and can be harvested for new stew recipes. Wool stairs and slabs finally give builders colored block variety without relying on concrete or terracotta.
- Dappled Forest biome with red, orange and yellow poplar leaf variants
- Poplar wood set plus stripped blocks and all derivative items
- Red shrubs and shelf mushrooms as new flora
- Abandoned camp structures containing loot and campfires
- Wool stairs and wool slabs in all 16 colors
- Multiple bug fixes including item drop positioning
Snapshot feedback so far focuses on performance in dense forest areas and how well the new wood set blends with existing builds. Some players already report using the poplar planks for cabin-style villages that look distinct from oak or spruce. The wool variants are being tested for modern interiors and pixel art.
Word around the campfire is the new forest biome is out in testing. But if nobody has been to the dappled forest before, who built the abandoned camp?
You can grab the snapshot through the Minecraft launcher by enabling snapshots in installations. Bedrock users should check the Minecraft Preview app. Expect more snapshots in the coming weeks as Mojang tunes generation and balances the new plants and structures before the full 26.3 release later this year.
