Bedrock Preview Rolls Out Dappled Forest Testing

Mojang dropped the experimental toggle for the third 2026 drop on July 1 letting Bedrock players roam the new colorful biome complete with poplar trees abandoned camps and wool variants weeks after Java got its first taste.

If you are on Bedrock and bored of the same overworld views flip on the experimental toggle right now. As of yesterday Mojang pushed the Dappled Forest features into Preview giving anyone with the beta client access to the new biome teased back in May.

The forest uses poplar trees with three leaf colors that give the area its signature burnt orange look. You will also find red shrubs shelf mushrooms that spread and grow under specific conditions plus the new abandoned camp structures that change based on the biome variant. Wool stairs and slabs in all 16 colors are craftable too.

What actually changed in this preview

  • Dappled Forest biome generation with poplar trees and fallen logs
  • Abandoned camps using wool blocks and fences
  • Poplar wood set including boats chests and all variants
  • Shelf mushrooms with growth mechanics and drops
  • Wool stairs and slabs for colorful building
  • Bug fixes tied to the new content

This is not a full release. It is the experimental slice that Mojang uses to catch crashes and balance issues early. Java got its first snapshot for 26.3 a week earlier but Bedrock players have been waiting for parity. Now they have it.

The four drop schedule is actually delivering. After Chaos Cubed shipped in June the team wasted no time pushing the next batch into testable previews. That pace beats the old yearly update slog even if some features still feel like they need more polish before stable.

If you jump in expect some jank. New biomes always come with generation oddities and the shelf mushroom placement rules are still being tuned. Report everything through the official feedback site because that is how these things ship without breaking existing worlds.

The experimental update is currently available through Minecraft Bedrock Preview and Beta allowing players to experience the new content before its planned inclusion in a future public release.

The third drop still has no official name but the current plan points to a Q3 launch. In the meantime Bedrock players can start experimenting with the new poplar builds and camp aesthetics that will probably dominate community servers once it goes live.
