26.3 Pre-Release 1 Drops as Minecraft Finalizes Next Update

Mojang has released the first pre-release build for the third 2026 content drop, locking in the Dappled Forest biome, poplar wood set, wool and concrete stairs plus slabs, and abandoned camps ahead of the official name reveal tomorrow.

Minecraft players have been grinding through snapshots for the third 2026 drop since late June. Now Mojang has pulled the trigger on Pre-Release 1, the traditional signal that they are done adding big features and are instead hunting crashes, bugs, and balance issues before the full release.

What Pre-Release 1 Actually Changes

The build focuses on stability for the Dappled Forest and its poplar trees in three leaf colors. New natural blocks like shelf mushrooms and red shrubs are in. Builder-focused additions including wool stairs and slabs in all 16 colors, matching concrete variants, cushions, straw beds, and the abandoned camp structures are also present and getting final tweaks.

This is not a tiny patch. It is the version Mojang believes is close enough to ship. That matters because the quarterly drop schedule gives them limited time to fix anything that slips through.

If you fire up the pre-release expect the new biome to generate near colder areas. The abandoned camps scatter across multiple biomes and come with explorer maps so you can actually find them without blind luck. The wood set behaves like every other tree type with its own stripped, plank, door, and stair variants.

  • Poplar saplings grow into red, orange or yellow leaf variants
  • Wool stairs and slabs dampen sound like regular wool
  • New explorer maps specifically point to abandoned camps
  • Performance and stability fixes expected in subsequent pre-releases

The Name Reveal Is Tomorrow

MCC Fall Stars airs September 5 and Mojang has promised the official update name during the stream. Pre-Release 1 dropping right before that event is no coincidence. They want creators and players to have something concrete to talk about when the title finally drops.

The third game drop of 2026 is an upcoming, currently unnamed game drop that is set to release in September 2026.

Server owners should stay away from production worlds for now. Pre-releases are one-way trips and worlds created in them cannot be opened in earlier versions. Test copies on separate instances are the smart move.

The obvious point everyone is dancing around: quarterly drops mean smaller feature sets but faster iteration. Whether that trade-off feels like progress depends on how good the Dappled Forest actually plays once polished.

Watch the MCC stream tomorrow for the name. Expect full release in the second half of September barring any nasty surprises in the remaining pre-releases. The builder community is going to eat well with all the new stairs, slabs, and decorative blocks.
