Greetings everybody and welcome back to another tutorial this one is going to be good old red stone and not involve any command blocks for a change so we’re going to be looking at ghost blocks first of all let’s answer what a ghost block is so you’ve probably experienced being Stuck in a block so you see no block and you’re standing on it and you kind of get stuck it’s the screen is shaking a bit something is wrong and then if you re-log you see that there’s actually a block there so that is an air ghost block what i’m Going to show you today are ghost blocks of several different types and they’re kind of a curiosity they won’t be that useful but pretty cool it’s a glitch in minecraft you could say glitch in the matrix and this is not going to make much sense when we build it If you want to replicate it you can build it exactly as i do and it will work the way it does for me so there’s no magic involved but it’s also going to be quite hard to explain exactly what’s going on so this first device is going to Replicate any block for us in ghost block 4. put down a block a redstone torch on top and then a block next to the torch with a lever on top and now we’re going to add a comparator here and we’re going to set that to subtraction mode And then we’re going to add a redstone dust next to it and a repeater here now these go into two new blocks there and this repeater is going to be set to 1 by the way so you don’t have to change it let’s dig down a bit here to get some space And we’re going to set a piston facing downwards between these two blocks and it’s going to extend immediately because this is powered now on the side of this block we’re going to add a sticky piston and now we’re almost done believe it or not all we need For this contraption is a slime block so let’s grab one of those and set it here what happens when i flick this lever back and forth now is we appear to be duplicating the downward facing piston see it has retracted its piston arm and is now floating in the air here These blocks i can stand on them i can walk back and forth like this but they’re not actually here they are ghost piston blocks and what that means is these exist on the client but they don’t exist on the server so they’re desynced blocks they have a bit special properties like This first of all mobs can walk straight through them they don’t see them as blocks and they don’t get block updates and in fact if i just right click one of these blocks they disappear and if i right click the one i’m standing on i’m gonna fall So that’s a way to make ghost blocks of piston blocks so let’s start and now we’re gonna expand on that so we’re gonna add some more space here and redstone dust here repeater set to two ticks here dust again and then off the side of this dust we’re gonna set A sticky piston facing this way and then here in the space next to the sticky piston we’re gonna put any block that we want to duplicate let’s duplicate a diamond block for instance because who doesn’t want lots and lots of diamonds now if we run this again uh let me get a Better angle of this you can see that the blocks were now duplicating our diamond blocks and we’re pushing them on like so and if i right click them regardless of what i’m holding uh they disappear and you see the item i’m holding and clicking with behaves sort of like if i was clicking That space so these don’t actually exist on the client and let me show you that in more detail by giving myself a pickaxe and then going into game mode survival and then mining one of these and you see that they don’t actually drop any blocks so this is not actually a way to Duplicate diamond blocks and in fact even in survival if i right click this block it disappears so there are several other things we can do with this oh let’s go back into game mode creative so blocks don’t really get updated properly when they are ghost blocks Oh that’s not what i meant to do this goes here so for instance we can push a lit lamp around now obviously this block isn’t here it’s not going to actually affect the light level here it’s going to look like it but it’s not going to affect the light level in terms Of spawning mobs and such but now i can right click these things this one is actually a lamp but now i appear to have a lamp that isn’t powered by anything the thing with these blocks is if you log out and log back in they’re going to reset to their true Form which in this case is an air block and that also happens if you cause too many block updates in the same section and a section is a 16 height piece of a chunk which is a 16 by 16 area in xs or if you go far enough away to unload This chunk and then come back and if you’re on a server that also means that if one player goes far enough away to unload this junk and then comes back he’s gonna see the server versions of the blocks so the actual blocks but if player stays behind is going to see the Ghost blocks that are on the client so that’s one way of duplicating blocks into ghost blocks i’m going to show you another version now that is very simple so we’re going to have a block actually let’s put one more block there now block there put a sticky piston on the side of that Block off of that sticky piston and i’m gonna need some more stuff here so we’re going to put a regular piston off the block on top of it rail in front of that destroy the lower block and put a button on the underside now when i press this These two are going to extend at once and the question is whether the rail will get broken or get pushed so if i press the button you’ll see that it got broken because it jumped off where did it go here and i can pick it up it was a separate item But it was also pushed so according to the server the rail broke and got thrown off as an item but in on the client this is a rail hanging in midair and of course this doesn’t update so it’s hanging in this kind of invalid way And again if i right click that it goes away now what makes this contraption interesting isn’t the fact that we can duplicate rails into ghost blocks but the fact that we can push whatever else we want with the rail so if i add a slime block off the side Of this one and then push this button you will see i get the rail popping off again and the slime gets pushed over by the rail but actually the slime block is here and this one is a ghost block and that disappears if i right click that so if we do that again Now i have a ghost slime block and a real slime block next to each other and ghost line blocks actually have fairly interesting properties and they are one of the most useful you see i’m kind of shaking a bit here so there’s something a bit iffy with this block but I bounce just like i normally would on a slime block and if i get some height on this thing and go to game mode survival we’re going to see something quite strange happen so i get launched higher and higher and higher instead of having my fall dampened a bit more every time So there are two notable things about that one is that i get launched off like that of course the other is i actually took damage so that’s a bit weird and here’s another really strange thing that happens if i’m standing on this coast block for a while and then i Grab a potion of harming now i’ve just been standing around the next on this ghost block for a while let’s go game mode survival again and i’m going to drink this portion of harming and i get launched and the actually the longer i’ve been standing on that lock the Higher i seem to get launched so that could be useful property now again i wouldn’t advise anybody to build like a map depending on these things because they are bugs they will likely get fixed at some version of the game but they’re pretty cool and maybe they’ll have some uses And of course if you keep modifying these machines you can create ghost blocks of any type from these by pushing them by pushing them into other blocks you can even create a ghost air blocks just like the one you tend to get stuck in on servers but i wouldn’t recommend it because you The only real use for them is that you get stuck anyway that was two methods for creating ghost blocks in minecraft and a few cool things that you can use them for i hope you enjoyed the video please leave a comment and let me know what kind of tutorials you Would like to see in the future and any suggestions for cool uses for ghost blocks my name is slicedlime thank you for watching and i will see you in the next one Video Information

In this tutorial I show how to create “ghost blocks” in Minecraft 1.8, as well as some of the weird things you can use them for, and the unusual properties they have.
Ghost blocks are blocks that only exist on the minecraft client, so they don’t update like normal blocks – and they disappear when right-clicked.
