Hey guys tj here and welcome back to another video when i’m building costs in minecraft i like realism while this does not sound like an obvious element in your castle building process it’s something a lot of people forget or simply don’t pay attention to when they Are building their own keep at the same time realism most of the time also improves the way your castle looks so in today’s episode i will be explaining to you using 10 steps how you can make your minecraft castle more realistic as well as tackle some common mistakes i notice Often when people are building these mighty structures themselves before we start these videos take quite long to make if you do enjoy my content or end up finding this video helpful then please consider leaving a like on the video and subscribing to the channel it will make me very happy anyway let’s get Started Starting off with number one location the location where you are going to build your castle is very decisive for whether your castle is defendable or not for example it is way more logical to build your fortification on a hill or island and not next to a large hill or In a valley thus making the castle way easier to defend as well as giving you a very good sight of the surrounding areas from your build what is also important is not to have too many trees around your castle because this will block the view and make it easier for the enemy to Sneak up to your keep however an abandoned castle or ruin might have a lot of trees around it number two the difference between a palace and a castle i thought that this one was worth mentioning because a lot of people in my experience think they are actually the same which is not the Case while castle was most of the time billed as a large fortified residence with strong walls to defend against attacks a palace was almost the opposite a palace was simply a structure inhabited by a royalty heads of state or heads of church and was most of the time Surrounded by lush and her landscaped gardens meaning it didn’t really have a strategic or military function although sometimes the palace was just part of the castle and in that case it did most of the steps in this episode are for a castle and not a palace number 3 blind Spots this was also a tip i gave in the previous castle video it is important that the castle is defendable from every side make sure that there aren’t any weird corners in your build where enemies could hide because they cannot be watched from the walls this is also The reason why towers in the walls are almost always built a little bit on the outside of the structure so no one can hide beneath the walls number four high walls speaking of walls a lot of times when people are building castles i see them building walls which Are meant for defense of only five blocks tall i mean how easy do you want to make it for your opponent to climb the structure walls especially in fortified structures were high and i mean really high especially in the case of city walls and of course if you make Them too high it doesn’t look very nice either so i would say that you try to find the right balance to make your walls look both pretty as well as realistic but but but just don’t make them three blocks though all right that just that just looks stupid number five Wood and stone this is just a very small one don’t use too much wood in the base of the structure of your wall it will just be burned down and become worthless when i’m building castles the only time i use wood in the outer walls is for decoration and detailing think about Signs buttons and trap doors another one is to not use stone in your ceilings because that’s way too heavy for your structure and with that also illogical except if you make arches then it is logical and perfectly fine but for flat ceilings nope number six the battlements everyone knows battlements they are very Distinguishable and very iconic when it comes to castles but it is very important that you give these battlements a function have a look at these battlements yeah the defenders can hide behind them but can they use them to shoot at the attackers too no unless they step on the battlements but that Will make them just as vulnerable instead try to find a battlement design that includes these kind of gaps by doing this the defender can use them for both hiding as well as to easily shoot at the attackers below you also don’t want battlements on the inner side of Your wall because the wall is taken the enemy can use these battlements in their advantage and you don’t want that number 7 the portcullis now this is inarguably the most frequent mistake i see people make when they are building castles and gates and it bugs me a lot It seems like everyone just forgets even large youtubers like green and giracraft have made the same mistake i mean i did too in the past but i learned for those of you that don’t know what a port colors is it is this thing over here That moves up and down to close and open the gateway alright have a look at this gate design doesn’t look that bad right but where does the pot colors go when it opens or where does it come from when it closes there is not much room for it up here Now is there it is actually very simple most of the people forget this one but i’m just very triggered by the presence of this mistake just make sure there is more than enough room above the pot colors so it can go somewhere alright like you see over here it is a small Thing but it makes things so much more realistic and look way more pleasing to the eye if you know this fact as well number eight murder holes this one sounds very disturbing i know but i will explain to you in a second most of the Time a gate wasn’t just a part of the wall instead it was an entire structure called the gatehouse which is most of the time actually the strongest point of a castle most castles even had a double part colors within the gatehouse and in between those two there was something That cost a lot of people their lives they are called murder halls when the attacking army had reached the first gate they would find themselves within this room inside the gatehouse although in the ceiling there will be one large or several gaps located from these gaps the defending party would throw rocks Pour boiling water or just shoot arrows at the poor souls below making it way more difficult for the attackers to breach the second gate of course you will need room for it but it makes your castle a little bit more intimidating number 9 windows another one that i Mentioned in the previous castle video don’t place your windows especially if they are made out of glass or fences too low because the animal will just break the window and enter your fortification that’s all and finally number 10 flex another small but film one i see a lot of people feel At is making sure that all flags on a particular building or even an entire area facing the same direction i mean if the wind comes from the west it doesn’t come from the east on the other side of the building just point those flags in the same direction it also looks way More pleasing to the eye and that’s it 10 tips and tricks to make your castle more realistic i hope you enjoyed this video or find any of the tips helpful if so please consider leaving a like on the video and subscribing to the channel i will
