Back in the imp dev and alpha days of Minecraft updates were sporadic as notch was the game’s creator and lead developer his visions would always get added into the game if he could find a way to make them work because minecraft was his passion project updates arrived as he saw fit Sometimes updates were big sometimes they were small and sometimes they were just little bug fixes and things of that nature as the game grew in popularity Knotts realized the importance of having a somewhat consistent release schedule for updates to hype up players and draw attention and excitement to these new Additions to the game On June 18 2010 knotch tweeted a message that would soon change minecraft forever I think I’ll do a secret update today and on that day the first ever secret update was released and 9 more followed suit in this video we’re going to talk about the History of these updates why they were so important to the game’s longevity and what makes all of this so important so without any further ado let’s get right into it On June 18th 2010 during the minecraft imp dev stages of the game and off the rails update was added into the game or well on the rails update mine carts and rails were added into the game for the first time ever to put it simply this was pretty revolutionary it’s the first Ever form of Transportation that players had available aside from walking in this time players couldn’t even run so anything faster than walking was considered a plus a week later on June 25th 2010 secret Friday update 2 came along adding dungeons monster spawners and saddles into the game these dungeon and monster spawners would Quickly become an integral part of the cave Splunk experience within minecraft offering players various lutes dungeons became a major part of the game mob spawners would soon offer many uses including creating traps for mobs to spawn in which led to mop grinders and more saddles also came in the ability to Ride pigs again for the very first time well you couldn’t lead them anywhere you could make pigs fly off of cliffs if you so pleased and fun fact this update was also the first ever inclusion of the visual farlands that we know today so there you go on July 2nd 2010 the first Ever alpha secret Friday update was released in version 1.0 point 1 as the third installment adding redstone or redstone redstone torches wooden stone pressure plates and buttons this became a game-changing update while redstone was extremely primitive in its early design being able to do anything interesting with a wire and a lever Shocked a lot of people for the first time ever we could open doors without actually having to come into contact with them we could also change the direction of turn rails and it was possible to make a 16-bit arithmetic logic unit yeah it really changed a lot On July 9th 2010 winter came early in Minecraft in the fourth secret update released as alpha 1.0 for instead of a summer surprise we got a bit of a winter wonderland winter mode was added into the game and alongside it ice snowfall and layers of snow itself When loading up a world you had a relatively high chance of snow beginning to fall if you happen to spawn into this world you’d quickly find out that the snow would never stop the entire world from edge to edge was littered with snow if a block was visible to the sky it Would get covered all exposed water blocks to snow fall would also turn to ice because of the snow animals didn’t spawn as frequently in these snow worlds this winter mode feature was removed from the game in Alpha 1.2.0 on top of that redstone dust redstone ore and redstone torches were officially Given their names with this update a week later on July 16 2010 alpha 1.0 0.6 was released and with it bats cacti and the very large trees are added into the game all of these were welcomed additions boats were the newest form of Transportation and with that came the Ability to create boat elevators which would shoot players up into the sky whatever distance they saw fit using a water elevator it also allowed players to think of Minecraft in a new way water slides became a thing and the community just went nuts with them cacti were also a fun addition but the Only downside was that like in real life players would get hurt if they went and just punched them and this was before natural health regeneration another week later on July 23rd 2010 alpha 1.0 point 11 was put out and alongside it sugar cane paper books bookshelves clay clay blocks bricks slimes slime blocks And milk were added into the game when the update was released sugar cane was actually known as reads oftentimes players would mistake the block for a bamboo or papyrus at the time reads could only be used to make paper books were added to make bookshelves which we’ve served the purpose of being a Decoration piece clay and clay blocks are added into the game and bricks were reintroduced as a new building block after having previously existed in Minecraft classic slimes were also added and when killed they would drop slime blocks at the time slime balls had zero purpose milk was added but also wasn’t Drinkable until a later date and it served no purpose as cake had not yet been introduced into the game on July 30th and alpha 1.0 point 14 chickens eggs jukeboxes music discs mine carts with furnaces and chests were all added into Minecraft chickens brought a lot into the game with their feather drops Allowing for the easier crafting of arrows whereas before only zombies dropped the feathers required music discs and jukeboxes added a lot of enjoyment and mine carts with furnaces and chests allowed for items to be pushed from one place to another this was previously a difficult task because At the time powered redstone rails were non-existent also the tip of an arrow was now changed from being made with iron ingots to being made with Flynn fun fact this version of the game also brought a glitch where the M in the title screen logo would occasionally appear to be broken Also this update answered the question of which came first the chicken or the egg and in this case they both sort of arrived at the same time but the chicken came first because the chicken had to spawn in order for eggs to be dropped at all for the first time ever since the Beginning of the secret Friday updates knotch missed not only one week not two weeks but three weeks released on August 20th 2010 alpha version 1.0 point 17 added fences Spider jockeys and a plethora of multiplayer updates fences were an extremely big deal however they were in need of refinement Despite being a partial block the game treated them as if they were full and therefore they had a very large barrier surrounding the block not letting you actually come into contact with the fence itself spider jockeys were the first ever appearance of a mob riding on top Of another mob and added a new challenge into the game and finally the secret Friday update that didn’t come on a Friday on September 18 2010 the very last secret update was released on a Saturday as Alfa 1.1.1 this version brought new paintings fishing rods and one of the most important features to The game ever sneaking no longer did a player have to inch their way to the edge of a block and pray that they didn’t fall off on top of that a volume setting for music and sound were added into the game as well after this update the end of the Secret updates was here so looking back at all of these updates it really makes us think should the secret updates come back well the idea was tantalizing at first let’s put this into perspective these updates were usually special updates done by a developer who was still in the twilight of developing his Game in Minecraft infancy these updates and ideas were integral to the game survival features like sneaking fundamentally changed everything if you were a builder no longer did you have to ensure way towards the edge of a cliff to build something super high up and super far out we could finally build With confidence which allowed for more inspired and interesting builds the overall concept of secret update seems quite outdated now it just doesn’t fit the current era of Minecraft not to mention secret or not these updates were way before people began to date a mine minecraft to death most people genuinely searched out these Secrets and attempted to find them through just naturally playing the game rather than looking at the code or something else in 2018 they’re not secrets they’re going to be found and a lot quicker than they were eight years ago so sadly I have to say no I don’t Think they should come back but it could be argued that they’ve made a comeback recently in the form of these secret snapshots where features are released that were never originally teased in the Minecon earth 1.14 trailer not just major complaint was that the secret Friday update usually men bug-fix Saturdays as well Snapshots are a good substitute to the secret updates but what do you think do you think secret updates should come back do you think that they shouldn’t which one was your favorite especially if you are around for them let me know in the comment section down below but Other than that that just about does it for me for now if you guys enjoyed this video please consider leaving a like on it because it would
