Today I want to have a discussion over the question of whether or not it is Mojang’s plan to replace the Java edition of minecraft outright with the pocket and Windows 10 editions of the game I know it’s a pretty bold statement to make but hear me out just yesterday The trailer for Minecraft Pocket Edition version 1.0 came out and like they’ve been doing for a while motion primarily focused this update on adding features that already existed in Minecraft Java for years Pocket Edition has been playing catch-up with the PC version but now it’s not far off from Being completely caught up so what happens when Pocket Edition has every primary feature that minecraft Java has well let’s go ahead and let’s get the discussion going In a video I released in September titled is minecraft really dying I discussed the sales figures for the game as a whole and pointed out that while minecraft Java sales have been on the decline for a while as of nearly two years ago Pocket Edition had already Sold over 30 million copies which is five million more than the Java Edition has ever sold as of recording this video right now so why am i led to believe that it could be Mojang’s intention to outright replace the Java edition of minecraft with the pocket slash Windows 10 edition well there are a few reasons in an interview with Time magazine Jeb noted that minecraft Java isn’t as easy to create updates for given that it’s coded in Java Minecraft Pocket Edition however is coded in C++ and Mojang has a lot more control over the Code with this coding language and if you look at the update history for Pocket Edition versus the Java edition it seems clear to me that Mojang is more enthusiastic about coding for Pocket Edition now I can feel what a lot of you are probably thinking Minecraft Pocket Edition isn’t as good as the Java edition it’s not moddable it doesn’t have dedicated servers and I truly hear all of these arguments I think this is why Mojang has yet to really make version exclusive updates for Pocket Edition they don’t want their original audience to feel alienated until they Feel Pocket Edition is ready to become the primary version of Minecraft in the same interview with Time magazine Jeb also said we want you to be able to mod as much as possible on the C++ version Mojang doesn’t want to abandon the modding community if anything they Want to enable them when the time is right I bet they want to come out and say this is the new primary version of Minecraft which has everything Java had fully moddable with a fully functioning mod API available for all operating systems I can’t imagine there would be Too much backlash with something like that so alright with the information I’ve laid out I’m pretty confident at this point that Mojang does intend to the Java edition of minecraft at some point but only when the time is truly perfect but right now they’re worried about being able to reach the Java Community it’s where the modding community is and it’s where the server community is so what is it going to take to convert this community to the Pocket Edition community well I think that’s a really simple answer flexible server software and fully unlocked modding capabilities or at Least a thorough mod API right now to run a server on Pocket Edition without realms takes a weird PHP code base which is far less efficient than Java if Mojang wants to have one giant cross-compatible version of minecraft they need to offer the ability for servers like hypixel and mineplex to Exist on Pocket Edition and they need to bring the Windows 10 edition to every single operating system alright and one last note that I want you guys to think about that heavily inspired to be making this video is that Microsoft actually offers Minecraft Windows 10 edition for Free for every single owner of Minecraft Java why else would they do this besides as a sort of peace offering to those who don’t want to feel like they got ripped off for buying an eventually discontinued version of the game everything I just predicted above I feel Is the answer to this question so yeah feel free to have a civil discussion in the comment section down below but I think that about covers this topic for me this video was originally going to be about how Minecraft Pocket Edition has evolved over time so if you still want To see that video also let me know in the comment section down below and while you’re down there leave a like on the video if you enjoyed but anyways guys I hope you all enjoyed this video my name is antvenom and I bid you all farewell thanks so much for watching Video Information
