Ars Magica 2 Spell Making Tutorial

Hello everybody madam on the frigid gamer here just going to go through a quick little run of how to create action spell crafting an altar in ARS Magica 2 for 1.7.10 this will also cover a basic spell creation and how to use the oculus so stick around

Okay so the first thing you’re going to want to find is you’re going to try and find one of these pools of liquid aetherium now these pools of liquid etherium do shine in the dark so it makes them a little bit easier to see if they’re in a forest or something but

We’re going to continue this during the day now once you manage to find yourself a pool of liquid aetherium you’re going to want to put down an item frame and going to need a book let me put that inside don’t us all the magic coming out of the pool swirling around

Rolling around rolling around and eventually here a super fancy particle effect happens now once you get your book if you right-click on it oops left click sorry I’ll come out and we’ll say you’ve unlocked the secrets of the arcane and you’ll notice that in you’re in the bottom two sections of

Your screen you will notice a mana bar and a burnout bar if you open up your book you’ll see a whole bunch of different topics of things that you can currently look at most of this is a moot point because you won’t be able to get

To it Raph the bat however some of the stuff such as the oculus you’re going to need to look at very very soon so to make that it’s stone bricks piece of glass two pieces of coal and a blue topaz in ARS Magica – it does add a lot

Of ores but we’re here to discuss crafting and air crafting spells in particular so in order to do that there’s going to be two primary ores that you’re going to need to find one is going to be your blue topaz that’s primarily used for ice spells a handful

Of other spells do utilize it as well and it’s also used in crafting some of the materials that you need the other one that you’re going to need is vin team or both of these appear underground at fairly shallow depth so I believe around 40 so pretty easy to find both

This one I’ll peer past the surface actually it’ll appear up above 64 and it’s quite common now both the unique thing about these ores is both of them as you can see it is not harvestable with a stone pickaxe both these ores require an iron pickaxe or better even

Though this one appears above the surface so once you’ve managed to obtain your materials you go over to a crafting bench and just like anything else that you would craft you put it in proper order you oculus your oculus is your level up tool it is the equivalent of a bed in Skyrim

Once you have your oculus put it down and right-click on it now you’ll notice you’ll have three different sets of skill points up here blue ones are ones you get in-between levels one and twenty green you get in between levels 20 and 40 and red you go

In between levels 40 and 60 if you need more skill points than that you can fight bosses are using the summoning rituals that are revealed using the arcane compendium now this is our first spell and we have a couple of choices we only have three points and as soon as

You click on one of these it’s instantly spent now getting it back no confirmation so careful if you actually take project there if you accidentally take things that can’t make a spell you’re kind of screwed so my choices here you are in the offense tree I can get projectile the defense dragging

Itself and the utility tree I can get touch one of the bet you can see what the other spells are further down the tree one of the best early combinations that you can get is touch dig is it’s a it’s a very low mana cost spell and a

Lovely a pretty quick other useful spells include inside the defense tree self and regeneration this is a lot of setup to do though so careful if you’re doing this and be prepared for spending a lot of resources early game and finally an offense projectile physical damage this spell does one damage at a

Very long distance and doesn’t cost much for mana but at one damage it’s not horribly useful either instead we’re going to do a fun little thing we’re going to do touch dig and projectile now once we have accumulated our different spell parts now we need to get

Into the part of actually making the spell now inside our insider arcane compendium it does tell us roughly how to get our first spell it’s a little vague in places but one thing stands common and that’s that we need to get an inscription table now this doesn’t have

To be made out of which would which would certainly makes air which would is kind of rare to come across and requires an iron axe or better to harvest so we are actually just going to craft it using normal wood now inside arcane compendium everything here is pretty simple a torch stick and

Coal feather drop from chickens would drop from trees except with a spell parchment the spell parchments really simple to make it’s just the sheet of paper with a stick on the top and a stick on the bottom but like an old-fashioned Roman time scroll I guess

So are do that we are just going to make our scroll first spell parchment that goes there feather here torch here plank plank and slabs there’s our inscription table the inscription table places on the ground similar to a bed so when you put it down it may be facing the wrong direction and

If you’re kind of anal about how you like your stuff set up you might be in for a surprise so the inscription tip also doesn’t like being placed down on top of snow you have to clear out two spots for it as we just don’t now let’s you open up the inscription

Table for the first time you will see some new stuff unlock inside your arcane compendium family how to build a crafting altar and all the different behaviors of that but we will go through that in a minute you now inside your inscription table you’re going to notice that it required

Requests a book and quill so that’s exactly we’re going to do since I’m in creative right now I have access to all the different spell parts but I will go through this proper here afterwards so now as a recipe from vanilla minecraft a book and quill is made using a book a

Feather and an inked second any orientation now that you have a book and quill you go to your inscription table you put down the book and quill and now you’ll see that you have a whole bunch of different squares now we were going to name this spell as

Digg because that’s what it’s going to do it’s going to dick we’re going to something neat here touch costs less mana than projectile but what if we still want to use our spells of projectile these are called shape groups what I’ve done here is I’ve actually made a group specifically for touch and

I group specifically for projectile so I can use this spell in multiple ways once you get further down and get some more levels you can actually create more complex spells and have different spell groups one thing that you might see like for instance a fire spell you can use it

As a projectile or you can add gravity to it and area-of-effect and turn into basically a fire grenade it’s going to cost a lot more mana but it’s also going to be a lot more effective now after you’ve chosen your shapes these only four shapes and modifiers these are the

Only things I can go in here all of your actual components have to go in here and whatever order that they’re going to be triggered you can also put shapes in here after they’ve done in here if you have universal things like AoE or something like that

Your spell has been created simply pull the book and pull out and you’re given one final chance to rename it if you need to in our case we’re going to use the word date now if you actually read this you’ll see all of its different components and then

You’re going to see a materials list these are all of the materials that this thing is going to require the crafting altar we have to make a crafting altar first now with regards to the crafting altar okay it isn’t a horribly complex structure but it is multi-block structure the orientation of the lectern

And of the lever does not matter it can be on any side in any or tation even on top of itself the part that is going to matter is what the altar is made out of the caps in the main component now you’ll notice that the main blocks can add a

Maximum of three effects and the caps can add all the way up to an additional ten effects of for a total of 13 our big spell is comprised of three effects touch projectile and dig so we’re going to need to make an altar that can have at least three different components so

Let’s see here if we go through a list if we make our ultra out of bricks with a glass can and let’s see what else can get let’s do coal blocks and stone brick because that’ll look kind of nice and it’ll make like a really rustic sort of castle you look

Now you’ll see that the crafting alter is made out of many different kinds of brick not just normal bricks but there’s also stairs in here it uses a combination of stairs and bricks as I just stated but anyway luckily this thing gives you a layer by layer comparison of how to do

It we’re just going to pause it here so we can see now we can see that the base of this is five by five our total of twenty-four bricks are twenty four blocks just in the base plus one cap so let’s make that 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 3 4

Final layer this requires two regular blocks or caps a crafting altar it’s just a piece of smooth stone and a piece of indium dust both of which I have in my inventory already well the crafting alternate way not the bin team dust in stone then our caps and some more stairs so

Let’s quickly pause let’s click quickly piece that together there there there there block block crafting altar shaders and I yet anyway it won’t a minute you okay I’m actually turn off shaders for a moment so you guys can see this part you okay now you’ll see that the crafting

Altar looks like well itself it looks like it looks like the crafting altar normally does the way you can tell that your craft the full crafting altar has been completed so once all the blocks are in place your crafting alter will change to look like the blocks that the altar is made

Out of that’s how you can tell that it’s finished and built properly now back to over one fully completed crafting altar what do we do with it well our as you saw before at a material list every spill that’s created needs to start with a blank ruin

So we’re I’ll put this down blood turn you can right-click it now just to read it for quick reference and we are going to find or craft a blank ruin to vin tiem dust one feather raw-fish clay arrow snow bowl orange ruin iron shovel iron pickaxe and spell parchment how

These items are decided I’ll cover at the end of this tutorial alright so now we have all of our materials how we got them exactly the blank rune is item added by ARS Magica recipe of which is just cobblestone six of them kind of a double arrow pattern

Now let they can be used in is various kinds of unique doors different recipes but the most common thing they used for is making ruins and the way you make a rune is very simple it’s just a blank rune and whatever color die that you

Want to make the ruin out of there’s 16 in total just like there are colors nice and easy so let’s begin crafting as I said before crafting begins by hooking a blank rune in and there it goes you can see the spell you can see the magic

Oh sorry and finally the spell parchment spell parchment will always be the last thing the recipe you’ll hear a fancy little sound effect when you’ve completed it another us spelling your inventory it would marked as an unnamed spell even though we did name it earlier which you

Is you right-click to cast but the first thing we try to cast it it will allow you to set a name and choose an icon for it there’s why you’d watch use an accurate icon is because these spells you actually put them in a spell book

And have them hot barred similar to how you would an MMO or an RPG making it so you can have multiple spells of varying effects very easily handy too so we’re gonna choose that effect just hit escape and then it’s chosen now if I right click with it

Oh it’s untouched right now I don’t have any range as you can see in the bottom corner here there’s an icon shaped like a hand that hand means that the range of the spells touch so there we go I am creative der all right the casting rate of these is really

Really high – and it instantly breaks blocks were applicable this will mine anything that an iron pickaxe or an iron shovel will but let’s say we want to add some range to this well we know that we put a projectile spell in here or projectile shape in here how do we use it

You hit C on your keyboard and you’ll notice the hand icon in the bottom corner changes to the projectile icon now when I right click your fire projectile this is not just something you can do in creative you can do this in single player as well in that speed

However you’ll notice the more that you cast your burnout bar on the bottom left increases right now it costs me twenty three point five mana to cast each time it drops as my burnout drops the more full your burnout gauge is the more your spells are going wind up costing as you

Can see it’s dropping quite considerably as you level up you’ll gain more and more burnout and the mob or not you have the slower your spells will start to burn out now as for how to actually use or how to figure out what things a spells going to cost inside your arcane

Compendium if you go back to the main page you’ll notice that there’s these three tabs here for modifiers components and shapes now if you click on shapes we were using a touch shape so that an hour spell crafting is going to require venting dust clay a raw fish and a

Feather exactly what we had in our recipe if really look at projectile same thing venting dust snowball and an arrow exactly what was required our spell and the last items that were required inside of our spell which was dick was an orange ruin an iron pickaxe and an iron shovel now the

Blank rune at the beginning and the spell parchment are always required at the beginning and end of every spell it’s like your forward slash in your end /r for Bracken n bracket the last thing that we’re going to cover so quickly grab some spills whoops malformed spells

Whatever that which is fun the other thing that should be noted is that when you’re crafting a spell if you’re trying to craft a spell that has more modifiers than available by your altar the book will turn red upon trying to complete the spell the altar will explode and

Instantly kill you no matter what armor you’re wearing from wit mod it’s an instant kill command so be careful if it’s red don’t do it it just won’t work like I said the last thing I’m going to cover here is the spell book okay the spell

Kind of handy in the fact that you can store multiple spells in it a sham in creative mode instead of doing this I’m just going to quickly whip up a spell if you’re in creative mode you can very very quickly manufacture any spell you want so that you just make it to fire

Also dye your spellbook using different colors this one is a particularly brown spell book but you can die at any color that you want be careful when dyeing your spell book because if there are spells in it it counts as a different item and all of your spells will be destroyed

Fair warning now in order to open your spell book you hold shift and right click with it and they’ll have storage for a ton of spells but only these ones here on the left will actually appear as selectable so we’re going to put our dig spell and our fire spell now the top

Left corner of the screen you will no small icons you can zip in between them by using Z and X in the keyboard you’ll notice the icon of what you’re holding your hand changes so I oles had said switch to that now the importance of this aside from having all

Of your spells in one closed location is your spell book can be enchanted not normally though if you stick your spell book inside an enchanting table like so nothing all fear there is a specific enchant that you can put in your spell book and it is a level 1 enchantment and

It is a very common enchantment to a level 1 this enchantment is called soul bound now there’s a it is a very low level enchantment you will get spamming level one but soul bound actually does is when you add it to an item using an anvil or

Whatever means it can be used on armor tools anything you want when added to an item when you die that item will remain in your inventory in the exact slot it was put in so we put our spell book and that thing there in that and we’re just going to name it utility

Now when we open our spell book we can throw those in it of our point you you respawn oh and look at that there’s our utility book still in our inventory and the exact same it was before so to everyone out there so that everyone out there good luck happy hunting
