Ars Magica 2 Wizard Training – Episode 3 – Our First Spell

Hello cup coders and welcome back to episode 3 of wizard training ARS magica to all right now this episode we’ve got a lot of ground to cover because we’ve got quite a few things that we need to go through I really wanted to go in this

First episode and show you how to get your first spell now I know I said that I wanted to cover at least one ARS magica thing in every episode and unfortunately because of how much you have to do to get to your first Bell won’t fortunately actually we’re going

To cover all a lot more than just one so the first thing we need in order to create spells is we need the oculus alright we’ve already gotten the arcane compendium so we are good to go with that next thing we need is the oculus

And if you don’t know how to build it you are welcome to look in here it will show you in here how to make the oculus it’ll be listed under blocks now the easy way to find it so you’re aware items are anything that just sticks in

Your inventory that you use from your inventory blacks are things that you place in the world so if you wanted to know how to make the oculus go to oculus and it shows you the recipe right there and it gives you a brief description so as we know that it’s three stone bricks

And you see our gut our friendly nature mage is still sitting here so i think that’s that’s pretty cool yeah that’s pretty cool actually all right so here we go to the oculus just right-click on the oculus and this is the interface that it shows you know this is a skill

Tree you do have to learn your skills in a tree fashion you have offensive spells on this tab defensive spells on this tab utility spells on this tab and talents on this tab now keep in mind guys talents are things that you are automatically for instance this matter

Region one if you choose to use it it is an automatic thing right now the order that I choose to use the talents in in this particular tutorial walkthrough series it’s it’s personal opinion personal choice I’m going to choose what I feel would be the best route but I am

Eventually going to go through and show you every single one of these all the talents all the utilities everything even if that means that I have to start a new game like for instance if I run out of levels and I can’t level up anymore then I might start a new game

Where am I going to cheat mode and give myself those talents so that I can show them to you but either way we are going to cover the all every talent in this game now to start with you see up here you got three numbers all right I

Haven’t quite figured out what all three of these numbers mean I’m sorry about that still working on it it is still the new mod as soon as I find out I’ll let you know but I can tell you right off the top of the head this blue number

Right here tells you how many of these you are alive still learn so let’s go ahead we’re going to learn projectile see now it’s down to two we have two more spells learned so we have projectile now we can from there we can learn gravity physical damage and bounce

We can also go over here and get defense for self or we can go with touch or we can come over here and choose a talent and that’s exactly what I’m going to do is I’m going to pick mana regen one and that opens up affinity gains now we’re not going to

We’re not gonna I’m not going to pick that we’re going to use this last point that I have back here on physical damage because we want to actually be able to do damage to our opponents or we can use balance now here’s what balance will allow your about projectile spells to

Bounce off the walls yeah so you can shoot it around the corner at a creeper on the other end or something but I tend to just shoot straight so we’re going to go with physical damage now that we’re not going to be able to use this just

Yet and I’ll show you why alright so that’s how you learn the spells and skills you just pick them as you go through and if you as you notice if you are not able to currently learn a skill set it will have this weird galactic writing now apparently I haven’t tried

Translating that yet but I’m under the impression that you should be able to directly translate from galactic to what it actually is but like i said i have not tried it alright so we got that done next thing we need now that we’ve learned some skill sets and as you look

We look in arcane compendium and we go down here two components now you see physical damage component is in here now this will show you what’s actually useful so if we’re gonna make a physical damage spell you’re going to need an iron sword and you’re going to need a

Red room easy easy peasy for projectile we need an arrow vent IAM dust and snowball easy peasy right all right first before we can make anything we need to do this I know I’m not really sure on your memory all right first thing we need we need a scroll so that’s

What these are for we’re going to make a scroll right here spell parchment I call it scroll and I’m going to put this right here because that’s for the next recipe where we’re going to make would take these right there an inscription table now you need the inscription table

In order to actually make to spell component to spell things so here we’re going to place this thing right here on the outside the house like I said I’m just going to place everything outside because it just makes it easier for this tutorial that I don’t have to build a

Huge big house for all right so once you come into the inscription table this is your interface now you see you do need a book a quill so we’re gonna have to get that I don’t believe that I have one let’s go see if I’ve got the ingredients to make

It first if I don’t then I’m cut out and go all right let’s see we got two piece of paper and you know what one two three bingo do I have any leather I do not have any leather okay that means I’m gonna have to go find some and I’ll come

Right back after I’ve made our book and quill oh wait ya no I do not have feathers and I do not having said look I’m just behind the times guys I’ve got a lot of stuff to go get so that’s what i’ma do is I’m gonna go find some of

This stuff and well you know I guess it doesn’t hurt to go with me huh I’m actually no I’m gonna go find some of this stuff and I’ll see you when I get back here we come on a pond yeah we kind of got a government out they drove into

You drive me to jump yeah you got okay we got three of them yeah we have three insects now we need let’s see oh I need leather now okay so my head off this way all right i am back i have the book and

Quill so we all ready to go but it is becoming nighttime now that is a problem because that means there are going to be monsters out here so we’re going to go ahead and try to make this spell really quick like and then I think we might go

Inside and go to sleep to sleep through the night alright so first you place your book and quill in here then select the components you want in this case we’re going to use choose projectile now we need at least one component that’s where we choose physical damage now this

Is why earlier i chose projectile and physical damage because you have to have one you have to have at least one of each so you have to have at least one of these which determines what type of spell it is and then you have to have at

Least one component to fit tell what the damage which spell does so in this case it will be a projectile spit a physical damage spell so we’re going to call this now this is what we’re going to call it right here we’re going to call this a

We’re gonna call it magic missile how about that magic missile very very not so very creative I know alright so once you’ve got all that done you pick out your components you’ve gotten your book and quill and you’re getting your name then you just pick up the book and quill and it

Produces the spell well it produces the book for the spell so the next thing we want to do is we’re going to build an altar for making spell itself in the meantime let’s go hunting for a little bit as we need experience we need all kinds of experience here yeah down you

Go down you go probably need that to what is that let’s go ahead and get it while we’re here good heart that is moonstone you never know when things like that I’ve come in handy so we might use that later so mazel grab it while we

See it let’s see if there’s any more creatures out here our nature mage our friendly nature mage sitting there watching the house protecting it keeping it safe making sure the creepers are not using my crafting tables all right there is something wrong here i got promise

You I am NOT on easy mode this is normal mode I should have a lot more enemies in here I guess I shouldn’t complain huh all right well either we have enemies or not we need to clear out space or we’re just going to right here it’s good

Enough we’re going to build our altar right there that’s an idea I think we’ll do that I’m going to come back over here we’re going to grab our stuff for the spell all spell crafting altar and we’re going to get it built all right now as

You see I’ve already got a lot of stuff sitting here the next thing before we build our spill actually build a huge thing we need to make the spell crafting altar component and it’s very simple just like that you place one vindium dust over smooth stone it has to be

Smooth stone it cannot be cobblestone and that creates your crafting altar now the crafting altar by itself does absolutely nothing so what you need to do is actually build the rest of the crafting altar so that’s what we’re going to come up here we’re going to build a crafting alternate see we’re not

Seeing if we’re going to build the set right here right in here so let’s move some stuff out of my inventory and move this stuff in keep watch out here let’s light it up not enough line it up we don’t need any months responding on top of us and here

They come speaking of monsters there’s some experience ball over here we missed I’ll take that all right you know what I tell you what because this is a little bit dangerous that we’re trying to build an altar here and these guys are just gonna harass us so we’re gonna go ahead

And go to sleep and build it in the morning um Oh morning time all right Oh God okay okay let’s go this co all right we gotta go build this crafting altar I’m going all the wrong I’m getting turned around here so red whoa I know

It’s a little hot out here huh you should probably go into the winter climate oh whoa whoa that almost killed me oh I think I need to eat hold on yeah yeah yeah we need to eat I don’t need to hope what am I know hello all right now

Let’s go build this distractions distractions I’m always distracted we’re going to build it up here like I said we’re going to start by building a five by five frames thats 1 2 3 4 5 2 3 4 5 all right then you’re going to filled it

In and make it into a donut next you want to place glass in the center now this is going to be our level one spell crafting altar okay so this is its it is wood we’re using plain oak wood and glass you are not setting my ultra on fire

Going all right then we’re going to take one two one two I think I’m missing some I am missing something anybody guess what it is no no no you can’t guess magic walls we need magic wall so i may have to go back out and get magic walls

I’m also need some dirt to make a scaffold because i’m not gonna be able to place those tops from all on the ground so and apparently i’m hungry again caught you get too hungry in this game all right grab some pork chops let’s eat let’s eat all right i’m gonna

Take a quick commercial break and i’ll be right back all right i just want to come back and let you know that I’ve done the quick inventory check I actually going to need six magic walls we don’t have them and it’s going to take 12 in TM dust to make six magic

Walls so I’m going to go ahead and go mining for a little bit and see if I can’t find it in the project in meantime I’ve also going to need six smooth stones so we’re going to cook those up right now alright so I’m going to go

Mining and see if I can’t find some more venting and we’ll be right back alright so I’ve been down here mining surface mining trying to get all the venti my need and as you see my health is a little low because I just got ambushed by ghosts over there and a skeleton now

I’ve already dispatched the skeleton so I’m getting ride take out that the coast over there too just waiting for my health to come back a little bit as we as you see we’ve got quite a bit of stuff but we’re still just cheese short on vient IAM or let’s get up get it

Light it up oh all right well it doesn’t look like there’s any event tiem in here so I’m gonna keep going and I guess if I find any more I’ll see you again alright guys well i’m back i want to show you real quick this is something i haven’t

Really shown in any of my videos it kind of explains why i do this but as you see i have found a lava pit and i’m digging around a lava pit and there’s a specific way I’m doing this I know it’s common sense to most people but i just wanted

To point it out and show it to you real quick now notice the first thing i do when i come upon a block like this i dig out the bottom block first that lets me know if there’s any lava hundred if there is no a lot of 100 then i’ll dig

Out the block above it whoa that was not what i was expecting all that we’re gonna fill that in real quick alright so far Wow okay blood yeah the idea is that each a top to bottom block see if there’s lava if there is no lava than

You dig out the block above it if there is lava then you leave it like leave it like that that way to prevent you from accidentally walking into the lava as you see so I just want to show you that real quick all right I’m going to go

Back and we’re still looking for more vent to him I have not found any more venting we’re still only at five and I have five in the chest which means I still need two more pieces so imma keep looking alright welcome back I have gone got plenty of venting more this time so

We’re going to go ahead and get making our magic walls real quick like so we should have yes we have six smooth stone that have been cooked up I’m gonna take these smooth snow and place them right there oh wait big Meg up we have to cook

The vent team or I almost forgot about that vent IAM or is not something that you work with directly it is a smelted ingredient you will have to smelt it in order to get what you need out of it because you can eventim dust from it now

If you’re using some other mods like gyno feeds beast does how offer some other equipment that’ll give you a larger output so i would highly suggest doing that but in vanilla ARS magica you will only have basic furnace door dork excuse me hiccups alright so we’re

Go ahead and let those melton we’ll be right back alright we have 12 in TM dust and six smooth stone so we’re going to go ahead and make our magic walls now this is something that you could not make an ARS magica one even though it was listed in the creative menu

Unfortunately you could not make it oh look I made a lot more than we actually needed dad that my bad oops okay so just keep that in mind that that recipe does make more than you really need so we’re only gonna need going to be six of them

But we’ll find another use for the rest of these later I’m sure of it so let’s go ahead and finish up our magic all wait I almost forgot what did I say i need you i need a dirt for a scaffold to work around it so there we go so we’ve

Got the dirt we’re going to go ahead and finish up our magic alter this doesn’t completely finish it there’s still be some more stuff that will have to do but for now this will be all we need alright first i need we need that’s right i’m

Going to go ahead and make my scaffold around it real quick let’s just allow me to get up there and play some things up at the top make it easier for placing items alright so there we go that’s my scaffolding that’s just like i said just

To make it easier to get up there and place items at the top now the next thing we need need to do is actually get up there and play some things let’s see it need is this and we will need those for there as well all right first thing

I want to set is I’m gonna go ahead and set the glass I’m going to place for glass on the corners just like that I almost forgot something in my scaffolding hold on here we go next we’re going to need to place some stairs up here now I’m going to come up here

And place them just like this we need some stairs out here dislikes there oh that hurts we’re going to walk around to the other side and place stairs over there as well I use up all our stairs let me take two pieces of wood right there and last but not least

We need the actual crafting altar right here in the center boom and that may finish this up our crafting altar so now we’re going to tear down this scaffolding that I built up there now this is a level one crafting altar what that means is that it will only allow us

To use one spell components now we will have to upgrade this in order to use more spell components for a spell now that most powerful spell crafting altar will allow you to have up to 13 spell crafting components we will get to that in this episode because that what I plan

On doing is throughout this series I will periodically upgrade this altar one piece at a time meaning that will upgrade it by one component at a time so that eventually you will do the third team but I’ll show you all the different variations of the alternate between now

There’s two more things that we have left to be left to make actually spell crafting alters not done all done we need magic walls in here almost forgot about that boom now the last things we need on here is we’re going to need a lever over there and we’re going to need

A lectern right there so we’re going to go ahead and look into making our lectern in our lever and we’ll be right back I’ll actually show you how to do it but give me one second let me make sure I’ve got everything I need all right so

I do have everything that I need we’re going to go ahead and make our lever first which is nothing more than cobblestone over stick this is a basic minecraft recipe right there next we are going to need a lectern and that’s how you make it three slabs over top of a

Plank and you have your lectern now we go and place this out there doo-doo-doo doo-doo-doo-doo now the location where you place these is not really all that important but I will tell you that you do have to place the lectern beside one of these pillars you’ve got four

Locations where you can place you can place it here you place it there you can place it there or you can place it there now it also doesn’t really matter which direction you face it in but in my personal opinion I like facing it just like this

So it faces in words all right now the lever it does once again it doesn’t really matter where you place it by the DUT you do have for location you place there there once again it has to be on the pillar just like there or there so

Those are the four locations you can place it I tend to place an opposite from the lectern and the reason this is for what is for some spells are going to require to have essence power so we will eventually build in essence con or a nexus here in essence next to it Nexus

And we will connect that essence Nexus to this eventually by using a magic wrench or the crystal wrench sorry when you get to the pointing spell crafting that requires essence you will flip this switch and it’ll draw power from the attached Nexus until until it fulfills that requirement once fills that

Requirement the switch will automatically switch off and show you the next item so now we’ve got our spell crafting books alter here let me go and show you about this spell book that we built earlier now we’re going to open it up this will show us everything that

We’ve every little piece of information about our spell as you see on this front page it shows us the combination of what we chose as you see we did choose this to be a projectile spell with physical damage the next page shows us the material list now this these are all the

Materials that we’re going to need in order to craft this spell I have not gotten these spells these items together yet in fact the only thing I have on this list that we don’t have everything for I think is the red roan and the snowball so I may have to go and get

Some stuff to make to get those but all this will show you all the materials that you need to craft this spell in the spell altar so you look at this and you can get all the items together before you even start crafting your spell the

One thing this does not list is you will also there are two other things that this doesn’t list that you will need in addition to this material list you will also need a blank room and spell parchment where the scroll is what I call them the next page tells you about the afen

Any breakdown now this will show you all the affinities this will be on the last page it’ll show you what this pelmet is comprised of knowing in this instance it is an earth-based spell other spells will have other affinities so we’re going to go ahead and I’m going to look

In I’m gonna go get some of these items that it requires here and so that we’re prepared and then i’ll show you how to craft it and i’ll be right back all right i am back i have gone gotten all these stuff that we need we do need to

Make some runes and this is how you do it you take six pieces of cobblestone put them into crafting all just like this and it will make you to blank runes now we are going to need one blink one to get this process started and I am

Going to need one red room to finish it off oh so we’re going to make some rose red here from a rose and we’re going to place blank run in there to make our red room and I don’t not going to need that so we’ll throw that right back into my

Chest because you see I’ve been collecting quite a bit of stuff looking for the red red rose and everything so if I’m correct that means that we have everything we need we have iron sword we have a red moon I have snowball I have a venting dust and we have our arrow we

Also have the two things that are not on list which would be the blank room and the spell parchment now you do need those to start and stop the process it is daytime so we’re going to go ahead and sleep real quick and we’re going to get this startup process started in the

Morning and show you how to make our spell and I think whoa that should just about finish this episode you’re not gonna hit me how you hit me die haha my first one there little hot out here summer you know alright I think we’re good looks like it’s everybody wears that’s our nature

Guardian nature beige oh wow maybe she will not see your sister it’s okay so we’re going to go ahead and get this process started first thing you need to do is put your magic put your book on here so there we go we have our book now

To get this process started let’s clear my inventory move all our spell crafting stuff into our inventory we’re going to leave our sword in our inventory though alright so we’re going to throw in the blank rune you literally just toss it in there and that starts the spells

Creation process you could tell because you see all this magical stuff there now the book will show you what ingredient to put in next as you see it is requesting for the vin team dust we toss that in now the book update says hey throw in a narrow so we throw in a

Narrow an update says okay now we need snowball we throw that snowball in there now we have now it needs to read rune last but not least it needs the iron sword now i am using a new irons worth for this i do believe that you can also

Throw in are used on a sword nope it needs a new iron sword it will not accept a use swords to just keep that in mind last but not least it tells us that we do need to spell parchment so we are going to throw that in there now just to

Refresh your memory spell parchment is one piece of paper and two sticks and that creates the spell and drops it for you you pick that up now just because we have this we are not done there is one more step in this process that is not sure that you probably haven’t may or

May not know already sorry the next step is you put you select your spell project right click that will bring this up there’s your name that you gave it earlier so we just going to leave it just like that or you can rename the spell at this point next thing you want

To take an icon for the spell now you have a lot of icons to choose from I’m just going to pick something like this is a projectile spell so we’re going to go with let’s see well I like those as Dean spells relieve those that as it is

Let’s go with this so that’s going to be our magic missile spell and as soon as you’re done you hit escape on your keyboard and that finishes the spell off and we have our magic missile smell let’s go find something to shoot shouldn’t take too long anything anything it doesn’t

Matter what it is I don’t care if it’s creeper we’re not gonna shoot our friendly nature mage we’re gonna leave her alone she might come in handy later oh yeah that guy let’s let’s show you what this guy is all about we’re gonna hit him real quick and we’re gonna let

Him explode watch my mana look at he is a manner creeper when he explodes he will suck your mana dry so you want to keep that in mind okay whenever you see those guys kill them quick or get away unless you’re not so much worried about germanna in which case I guess it

Doesn’t matter but he’s not he doesn’t do any physical damage there we go now unlike ours magical one with arts America to you do you can easily unlock the ability to augment cast but without having to find some mage tower the difference is ARS magica to does have

More boss monsters than ours magic one you can unlock your audience at spell casting without finding a spell it is part of your your spell tree so we come in here and you go two talents if you look down through here one of these will actually unlock augmented casting so you

Will want to unlock this tree here to do augmenta casting as before with default press C to change to change your spell-casting ability as you see in the lower right it has that half moon thing that changes from quarter moon to Half Moon that tells you what level smell you

Are currently casting right all good obviously with this Bell it’ll mean more damage for the spell alright guys that’ll be it for this episode I’m going to go and see about looking into what I need to do for the next episode I want to say thank you for watching as always
