Welcome to the tutorial for player information commands today i’ll show you how to install and set up the data pack on your own server first i’ll show how to do with the gui but at this timestamp i’ll show you how to do it exclusively using a terminal You obviously start off by downloading it it should be in the tar.gz file format open that up in your favorite archiving tool and unpack it if you don’t have one i recommend ark from kde it needs to be extracted to the Data packs folder that will be located in your server folder world and data packs now it just has to be enabled in game first type /datapack list and you need to be a server operator to do this if it isn’t enabled enable it with /datapack enable “file/Player-information-commands and now The data pack is installed but all the messages are just the default ones not very informational you need to customize them inside the folder of the data pack you’ll find five json files greeting.json help rules news and info.json this is where the content of the messages Is stored open them up in a text editor or ide like atom or notepad++ they’re written in the minecraft json text format so it might look familiar to you but if it doesn’t don’t worry minecraftjson.com has your back it’s a free web app that lets you generate json text from Minecraft and it has an intuitive ui and also has all the bells and whistles that the game supports so when you’ve written what you want copy it from right here make sure not to include the /tellraw @p part then put it into the desired json file if you care About the readability of it you can take some time make it look nice but it’s not necessary if you want to create multiple pages you write multiple messages in the same file and separate them with this arrow character like i’ve done right here if you want to completely disable a Command just leave the file empty now it just has to be inserted into the data pack that’s pretty simple to do open up your folder again right click in your file manager and click open terminal here that option might not be available if it isn’t you have to copy the path Like so open up a terminal which is called command prompt in windows type cd then paste your path and now that you’re in the terminal all you have to do is type python3 script.py now your custom messages will appear to everyone on the server congratulations you’re done So now it’s time to do it the hardcore way with a terminal because obviously most minecraft servers in the real world don’t have the luxury of the gui or desktop environment so you’re going to start off on a different computer from the server go to the github releases page And instead of downloading it you’re going to right click on it and press copy link address now you can ssh into your server for this tutorial i’m going to be supposing that you’re using it unix-like operating system on your server and if you’re not i hope you know what you’re doing we’re Going to start in the server folder and then change the directory to world slash data packs now we have to download the data pack by typing wget and then pasting the link now you can see it’s right here but it’s compressed so we need to extract it using tar -xf and then the name of it now we can just remove the original archive and it should be installed now join your server as the server operator and then type /datapack list now you can see it’s already enabled if it wasn’t enabled you just have to type /datapack enable and its name should pop up right here now you can see this is not the most useful thing these are the default messages so you have to change them that’s done by heading into the folder and then there are these five json files Now this is where the messages are stored so if we take a look at greeting.json you can see this is the content of it now this is written in the json format that minecraft tell raw Uses so if you don’t know how to use that that’s fine you can just go to minecraftjson.com it’s a free website that gives you an intuitive ui where you can make these messages and then it’s just Gonna output what you have to type into the json file right here so let’s make one for ourselves edit info and then just type it in now you may have noticed that some of them have multiple pages let’s take a look at that That is actually done using this character you see this is the first page and then this is the second page and you separate them with this character now if you want to disable one of these you just leave the file empty And now to import it into the actual game you just have to type python3 script.py and now we can try it out so start off by typing reload or restarting the server and now trigger info and there you go congratulations you just successfully set up player information commands on your own server Video Information

Player information commands is a server focused datapack that adds the commands `/trigger help`, `rules`, `info` and `news`, as well as a greeting message that is displayed when you join the server. The contents of all the messages/commands is completely customizable. Your messages can contain all the formatting that’s possible in minecraft chat (bold text, colors, hyperlinks etc.), they can contain multiple pages and there’s support for disabling any of the commands. The commands sadly have to be prefixed by /trigger, that’s just a limitation of datapacks, but the upside is that it works on 𝗮𝗹𝗹 1.13+ minecraft servers
