Minecraft pay to win servers have killed what Minecraft had intended to be from the beginning and in the process would generate over $25 million from one Minecraft server alone but from server owners doxing their own communities to scamming younger audiences for profit the story would become deeper than you Could ever imagine a story Tangled with lives and deceit with the backing of a multi-billion dollar company running in the background but it wasn’t always like this and unfortunately there’s too many servers to list in one single documentary but let’s attempt to timeline where everything went from right to Wrong it’s a wet Day on May 17th 2009 in starcomm Sweden a young Notch is releasing the newest version of the game a version that would be titled version 1.0.5 an update that would allow players themselves to host their own Minecraft servers and alled for creativity to flourish within communities Players would be able to connect and work together on projects that were fun to them a simpler time where people would connect for Mutual goals but this update would create single-handedly what would follow for Generations but soon after its release a new server called tb2t would be released and would become What people called now the very first Anarchy server in Minecraft a server that dedicated itself to community rather than for profit it was a community that was tense but it was unique and fun to a large chunk of its players a server that would allow anything you want to cheat go ahead it’s A free world where your only limit is your own imagination but although it was a giant Community another would be lurking around the corner that would change Minecraft servers as we know it Hypixel was a Minecraft server released on April 13th 2013 a server that industrialized Minecraft servers in a Way nobody had done before they created Minecraft games that were unique like TNT run where they would make the game feel fresh and although the server’s main priority was money it still held close to most players Hearts to this very day the server that had created its Own identity in a field of copycats new games were introduced like SkyWars and Sky Block which would introduce a fresh feeling to the game in a more competitive manner but the best pirate was it somehow never got boring but although the server was peing at hundreds of thousands of players it Would also cost a large of man to be able to sustain it Hypixel had introduced their own ranks to the server that would show above players heads that would cost a fixed amounts every month this was unique at its time and allowed players to feel status while helping the Server that they loved playing but according to Hypixel it costed nearly $100,000 a month in order to maintain the server something that would be incredibly difficult to withhold over the coming years without this time in Minecraft story their moderation was done by a small team of Mojang staff who Would directly talk to server owners through a secret group chat that would been hosted on a website called Skype this function would allow server owners to talk directly two Mojang staff themselves but although this team of moderators were very active it was much easier to get away with stores as Mojang Themselves had not been enforcing their own Ula but soon after a server titled Cosmic would be released that would end up having multiple YouTubers backing and would go on to take advantage of most of its younger audience to this very year Preston plays a popular Minecraft YouTuber synonymous for his originality In the Minecraft sphere will go on to create his own channel titled Preston Cosmic a channel that basically built the foundations for a multi-million dollar Company by promoting game modes like factions which were known in the community as some of the highest grossing game modes in existence these Would include Loot drop cases that would exclude percentage chances meaning that younger audiences would be enticed to purchase crates with no idea of what they would actually receive not only this but crates could reach up to $100 costs this paid for Advantage would be frowned upon by most of the community Involved mainly as people weren’t able to afford these paid advantages and not only this but creators like suunday would end up having servers making large profit margins running in the background which meant that players weren’t able to keep up with everyone else in the server server profitability for owners was at An all-time high but a change from one purchase alone would end up ruining everything in one single day the date is the 15th of December 2014 a small block game has just been acquired by multi-billion dollar company for a number larger than had ever been seen in the Indie company up to this Point with the reputation of Microsoft now at stake changes were about to take place that would shake up the industry as a whole in a way that would affect it all the way to this furry day not only this but during this time Notch himself Was told to have sold the game as a result of stress and as a result of this Microsoft changed the Minecraft hula which to people who don’t understand is a legal contract between a software supplier buer and a customer or user this Ula stated and outline that servers Were no longer able to sell items that Minecraft had provided in the game or in other words anything that was in the Bas game was not something that could be paywalled not only this but youa also Outlaw the use of crates in general servers this meant that server Profitability was about to take a significant decrease and not only this but servers themselves would either have to follow Microsoft’s demands or they would face the consequences of being removed off Minecraft’s official listings and face the possibility of possible server termination this termination option would end up being a Popular choice to Microsoft themselves as rules were becoming more strict than ever before but also outlined in this Ula would come a new nickname for these servers titled the term pay to win a term that wasn’t new in the gaming industry but was never heard of in the Minecraft sphere itself this term would end up being a nightmare for most server owners as the morality side of these servers was no longer in the question and rather now servers were just Holding On by their bare hands as they were now at the mercy of this multi-billion Dollar company you may remember a few moments ago that we proposed that Sunday a popular Minecraft YouTuber had contributed to this problem but when asked for comment on this topic this is what he had to say we all knew it was coming we will adjust our server to Mojang’s YULA I personally love pay to win games I’ve spent a good bit of money on Clash of Clans Clash Royale and even servers but that’s not what Mojang wants and it is their game after all this time in Minecraft’s history was a turbulent time as people would begin to split Between two sides Pro pay to win and anti- pay to win these two sides still exists at this very day and it’s up to your interpretation of whether it’s a good or bad thing but nonetheless Minecraft was on a decline in players ships and servers were now suddenly Struggling to make profit margins that they were once making and not only this but the struggles that were to come would last for nearly 6 years with only a small few being able to sustain their servers but a sudden Revival to Minecraft would end up Reviving what Minecraft had lost all those years Ago it was a period of March 2020 the co lockdowns led to a noticeable increase of people playing and dedicating more time to playing video games but where restrictions limiting outdoor activities and encouraging social distancing many people turned to video games as the Primal source of entertainment this part Of Minecraft Survival would lead to the new Minecraft trends also being introduced servers like dream S&P life steal and S SMP live would end up shaking Minecraft server fears as a whole Microsoft at this point knew that they needed to communicate with their server owners again in hopes of creating A bypass for the server owners to be able to still make profit but also staying within their Ula as a result of this a private Discord server would be created where server owners could directly communicate with Microsoft themselves this also happened to be when Microsoft themselves would begin to ease Off on the moderation crates were suddenly allowed again but this time there were a small few limitations one of which being that if there was a crate that was based off luck all the servers had to do was present a percentage chance of what the likelihood of them Getting the item was meaning that realistically servers could have presented fake percentage odds and could get away with it under Microsoft soften Ula moderation and players wouldn’t know any better by this means this point was where the arguments began to become more severe than ever before one of these Servers in question would be called Mind Superior mind Superior a server previously run by two owners Titanic freak and epic gamer 113 also known as Kenny was a massively popular server with the full intention to get a large sum of monetary gain through the exploitation of Their audience this Practice would fluctuate the price given the Time season or holiday it was around their largest incentive for players to drop significant money was by shortening the seasons of their faction servers meaning any in-game items they would purchase on the server and would be wiped out in around a month this forced Players to purchase things such as crates spawners and even certain specific commands in addition Kenny and Titanic freak would offer seasonal prizes to the top faction making the scene extremely competitive and leading to players spending significant money with the hopes that they would make profit by the end of the season might Superior would push a narrative of their player cut being higher than it actually is using a method called player spoofing this is done on many pay towin servers as to incentivize possible buyers to feel as though their purchase is going towards a more significant server and One that is not going to go away anytime soon might Superior at times was even multiplying their actual player account by four times along with always having around 10 to 20 alternate accounts between the two owners eventually these predatory methods to manipulate buyers caught the eyes of many players and YouTubers in the community and with planned organization duping and lag machine the intention was to harm the server make players leave and raise awareness to the problematic matter of the server by uploading it to YouTube these videos blew up one being from The Voice you’re listening to and led to Many people flooding to the server to attack and harass harassed the server with constant hate lag machines and duping ruining the semblance of any experience left for any dedicated players after the countless months of harassment from the viewers of the YouTubers who Expos M Superior Titanic Freak decided to leave M Superior as the project became no longer profitable Kenny however decided to stay and completely rework the entire server to ensure that the server would not be threatened by YouTubers dupers and lag machines ever again what’s worse is to this very day this server is endorsed by Feather clients which shows that there is some information that they either choose to ignore or are completely unaware of but nonetheless to this day the server still promotes a Pay to Win perspective in the way of purchasing coins in the store which can be used to Open crates as well as the server still spoofing their player counts meaning to this day they still lie to the players about the server’s popularity M superior’s reputation never really recovered and to this day has had a declining player count as the server gets closer to closing down for good but As bad as M Superior was it wasn’t the only ser server that needed to be addressed as other servers like purple prisons were making multiple digits every month with a 24/7 sale as well as other players spoofing and finding its ways to the top of most server listings But server owners weren’t the only ones to be contributing to this issue either Dr donut a small twitch streamer would initially struggle to gain viewership on his twitch Channel despite the efforts to promote his content on other social media platforms so in the beginning of 2021 he released a public Mind inra hardcore server in which if you die you get banned from the server temporarily in attempt to bring an audience in he began making long form and short form videos on his SMP dueling players raing players builds etc etc but he mostly became known for some Questionable Clips to say the least wait responded again what the at first things seem to be okay but as it popularity would suddenly rise questions would begin to get asked what’s the problem with the server and why is it marked as pay to win well the biggest problem with the Server were crate Keys attainable in a shop in which allowed players to get things like netherite armor netherite swords and other op tools at the cost of a few dollars leading to players spending more and more money just to get items that they wanted but after a Period of Time Dr donut made the executive decision to change the crate system and now allowing players to obtain items that they choose with keys and rather shifting from unpractical gambling systems whilst making it possible to obtain all items in the Bas server but still giving the players Options to buy keys in order to support the server this evolution in response to community feedback not only preserved the server’s reputation but also demonstrated its commitments to creating a more balanced and player-friendly environment on the server but a quick sellout here I’d like to pass Dr donut Someday by the end of the year maybe so if you want to help me out subscribe it’s completely free you can change your mind whenever but around this time the shocking announcement was also made that the cosmic servers were shutting down everything up to this point had been Profitable and it seemed like the company was happy with the profit profits that it ended up turning over marking it as one of the only servers to make $25 million in gross revenue from the server but not all stories have a happy ending all the way to this day you See a server owner called Circus cow has been sitting in the backgrounds running a server Empire making thousands of dollars from unsuspecting players by simply locking items behind random crate chance pay walls unfair advantages and false Bannings from incompetent internal teams the Mr Epic posted a video titled Minecraft duping getting innocent Players banned in which is supposedly the first of his servers to have been duped on as well as exploited for crates keys and ranks we can roughly estimate this being a few months prior to the upload date in which during this time we can learn a number of things the server Owner circus C had his staff turning to one Dev in particular to handle problems there’s no public information about the devs where BET right now but we could probably estimate that he’s no longer involved with this community but this incident would not be the only one to Catch the Public’s eye zman a popular duping YouTuber and Creator had his IP leaked on a public server whilst in the middle of a setup for for a chunk band system that he had created involving the destruction of an entire chunk to replace it with furnaces but before this Attack had even began to take place zman was banned alongside a large group of his fans a quote from zman says we were going to fill this hole with furnaces which would have created a chunk ban however the owner could have just Banned Me normally but he decided to try to Harm me and my roommates by leaking my IP just to clarify leaking one’s home IP doesn’t actually leak your home address but the concept of leaking one’s IP on a public server is deemed very unfair by most people in the community but everything so far in this documentary Has painted pay to win servers in a more negative topic which is not what we aim to represent here because sometimes these mannerisms are necessary in order to maintain the servers themselves servers like for example the Mr epics have continued to not follow a Pay to Win process only until this very month Where he would conclude himself was only a result of servers barely breaking even without this pay to win model but as a result pay to win aspects in games is stated have never really been something that have been a problem in the gaming industry but with lots of servers following unethical monetization Practices it leads to large anti- paying communities jumping on things like gambling mechanics at 24/7 sales are the real issue at hand here and Minecraft servers still exist like this to this very day but it’s up to you on whether it’s right or Wrongness master Video Information
