What’s going on guys my name is jack buzzer and i’m going to be your tech support for the day i’m going to be giving you a basic beginner’s guide to encoding for streaming and recording so let’s get straight into it okay but first we need to identify what hardware your Pc has because a lot of people simply aren’t sure what is in their computer so what you’re going to want to do is open up task manager and head over to the performance tab in this tab you’re going To be able to see your cpu and your gpu as well as the name of it how many calls it has and how many threads it has this is going to be super helpful when deciding if you have an nvidia gpu Or an amd gpu and if your cpu is strong enough to handle x264 encoding i definitely recommend you do test these settings for yourself i personally do not own an intel quick sync compatible cpu Nor do i own an amd graphics card so i’m not very well versed on these parts however i do always recommend getting an nvidia card because they are far better for content creation thanks to their nvinc encoder if you are on windows 10 you want to make sure that obs is running as Admin so what you want to do is type obs into your search bar open the file location and right click it once you’ve done that go down to the bottom and click properties head over to the compatibility options and simply tick run as administrator this will ensure that obs runs as admin every Single time so first what you’re going to want to do is head over to the settings tab head to video and you’re going to see these four basic settings the base canvas resolution should automatically be set to your monitor’s base resolution it should always be the case set it to 1920×1080 if you Have a 1080p monitor which most people do unless you have purchased a higher resolution monitor the output scaled resolution is the resolution that twitch will receive i do not recommend using 1080p just because twitch do limit their bitrate to 6000 kilobits per second i do recommend any Of these resolutions on the screen right now from 1664 by 936 being the highest and 720p being the lowest however if you do have a lower npc and you have to 960 by 540 is absolutely okay next we have The downscale filter where you do have four options bilinear if you are not scaling or have a low end pc it is the fastest but it can be quite blurry area which is a weighted sum this is more For retro games i don’t recommend using this one bicubic will be fine for most people and lengthos is what you use if you have a higher end pc next we have the fps values everyone knows what fps is But when you are streaming 60 is pretty much the absolute maximum if you can’t stream at 60 head down to 48 and if you do have a lower end pc 30 is still absolutely fine so once we have done the Video settings we’re going to head to the output settings these settings are for an nvidia card if you have an amd card i will put a timestamp for other types of encoders just on the screen now So if you do have an nvidia card you want to make sure advanced is set as the output mode this will just give you these settings otherwise you’re going to be stuck with just this So once advance is ticked you want to make sure the encoder is set to nvinc h264 new once you’ve done that make sure the rate control is cbr and bitrate if your internet can handle at 6000 the easiest thing to do is head over to the speedtest.net and run a speed test or just run it on google and select what will work for you one thousand kilobits is one megabit keyframe interval The easiest thing to do if you don’t know what you’re doing is just to set to zero and let obs handle it the preset if you have a gtx card set it to quality unless your card is a 1650 super Or higher if you have that chuck it on max quality same if you have an rtx card because they have the new encoder make sure both lookahead and psycho visual tuning are ticked leave the gpu on zero Unless you have a laptop that has two gpus then set it to one if you have to but i do recommend making sure you test this to make sure you are correct maximum b frame set to two for high action Packed games if you’re playing something like sims just chuck it on four for recording on nvinc you can actually use the exact same settings only changing two things you can change cbr to cqp and Use a value of 16 or you can keep cbi and change the bit rate between 20 000 or 60 000 anything higher and you start to get diminishing results at the expense of a whole lot of storage space Now if you do have a bit of a beefy cpu and an amd gpu which means you don’t have access to nvidia’s n bank click on x264 x264 uses a cpu to encode it’s going to generate a lot of heat and A lot of stress on your cpu but it will look much nicer than amd’s encoder again the bitrate set to whatever you can handle on your internet speed again i’m just going to set it to 6000 because i know my internet can handle it reset anywhere between fast or medium Is totally fine slow and anything above is completely degrading results and just is not worth it especially on twitch so i’m gonna set it to medium because i do have a beefy cpu and that’ll be fine leave the profile and tune on none and no extra options if you do have A weaker cpu you can definitely go too fast faster or very fast i don’t recommend going any lower than very fast because this will just look awful and will pretty much be unwatchable now unfortunately i’ve never actually used intel quick sync but based on my research the Easiest options to do are target usage as very slow profile is high rate control as cbr again whatever your internet can handle latency is normal and b frames again if you’re playing a fast game set is two if you’re playing a slower pace game set as four Amd i also do not have an encoding screen however most of their options aren’t going to help you very much when streaming so the easiest thing to do is make sure the rate control options mode Is on constant bit rate and set it to 6 000. guys i hope this was helpful if it did please leave a like and really to appreciate it make sure you subscribe i do have other obs tutorials That might help you out but yeah guys thank you for watching and i hope to see you next time Video Information
