Deadly monster trap secrets revealed!

Howdy folks welcome to my minecraft tutorial this is episode number 38 and how to survive and thrive series and in this episode I’m going to show you how to build a very basic monster spawner trap with an automatic collection system so that we can harvest their goodies when

They die in the trap now I did a tutorial on this a long time ago this is my tutorial world this is a dungeon I had found and it’s obviously a zombie dungeon I would prefer to build this spawn trap around say skeleton spawner because there drops a lot more useful

Than zombie drops zombies now drop rotten flesh yum yum you can’t eat this it is a food source it will replenish some of your hunger bar but sadly there’s a very good chance that eating rotten flesh will poison you you’ll get food poisoning and your hunger bar will

Reduce even or rapidly than normal so forth and so on but this is the only spawner I have so this is what we’re going to use alright with that said let’s get started on the actual tutorial and I’ll explain how they spawns work as I go now obviously the first thing we

Need to do is deactivate the spawner because we’re not going to get much work done if zombies are kicking us in the face as we’re trying to build so what you want to do is make sure you have a healthy supply of torches and put torches around the room this is the old

Way the old method of deactivating a spawner as I had done in my old tutorial everyone said just run up and put four torches around it that will deactivate it and in essence that will work if this room is small enough and it’s well lit and it is indeed but doing this

Accomplishes pretty much the same thing I’m going to make these lower because I’m going to have to knock these down later I don’t want to have to climb so we can get rid of these again as long as this this area is well lit spawner will

Not spawn anything now the wiki says if you do this it shuts it off not true I’ve seen these spawn even with a torch placed directly on top so I’ll leave that there because it does help light up the room but that is false information in my experience anyway all

Right now this trap we’re going to make is a water kill trap it’s very simple to make does not require a whole lot of resources we do need a bucket or two of water actually we’ll need two buckets of water a little bit of glass and fence

And your digging and mining tools and that’s pretty much it again this is an old design it goes back Gee’s even a year or so it’s been it’s been working ever since and it still works fine it really only works well on the bipedal monsters so zombies and

Skeletons but spiders are a little bit of a different story and we’ll build one of those in the future anyway so let’s get started get your tools ready put on your music and let’s start a gig in alright first things first let’s talk about how this thing spawns and where it

Can spawn basically this will spawner will spit out little zombies in an 8×8 square so as you can see this room is about one two three four five one two three four five it’s five by five square so even though this room is well lit if

Over here for example it was an opening and this is really dark this is seven or eight out then this spawner may indeed send a zombie over there in that dark area so you do want to make sure that all the areas are either filled up around this thing or they’re well lit

They also only spawn monsters in when you when the player you are within sixteen blocks so once you leave the area it’ll stop spawning alright that’s how these things work with that said let’s get started with the trap first thing we want to do is just dig down around this

Guy and I’m just going to use the outline of this dungeon which is a perfect size it’s five by five that’s good enough I’m going to take the flooring right out going to go down three blocks there’s one you don’t have to leave any of it just make sure you don’t destroy the

Spawner we obviously need that that’s one we’re going to go down three total and what do you know I run into or every time I’m working on a project and I’m limited for time it’s always some war and as is typical I just ignore it because I don’t have time to start

Collecting in people like what you miss clay you missed oh don’t fret I’ll be back for it you stay stay right there I’ll be back not really but Lenny more with that game all right so that’s enough we are one two three this is the floor the original

Floor which is the mossy cobble and that is far enough for our usage here ceiling height is perfectly fine you have to worry about that so now what we want to do is we need to define an area for collection where we’re going to build our little area where we get to watch

Behind a nice glass wall and laugh and giggle as the monsters die in the water and we’re going to do that on this side so let’s go over one more so now we should be six this way right one two three four five six and you can go over

A couple more I’m going to take this out to actually all right so now that should be seven we’re going to go out six though so one two three four five six doesn’t have to be perfect you can go six or seven we’re going to dig down a couple this is where

The water ledge is going to drop off and the monsters are going to fall down here we’re going to put the water up top there it’s going to flow this way and it’s going to bring them the currents going to carry them right here I’m going to go down too deep hello whoa

Interesting okay we’re gonna have to fill this in so we don’t get the zone oh my gosh hey redstone we don’t have to fill it in but we need to at least light it up look at this because we don’t want mobs spawning down there from the spawner

I’ll come back to that yeah sure all right again oh that was close I almost went for a little trip down there didn’t I alright well that’s well lit over there I’m too worried about monsters spawning in there they’re zombies spawning in there alright so now

We’re down to and we want to go back whoops go back or should do again the numbers don’t have to be precise so if your area can be a little bit large if you want to make it larger I’m just going to knock all this back this is

Going to be again the observation chamber where we get to sit back on a couch a bag of Doritos a Pepsi and watch the slaughter ha all right so one two three want to go back one more Cole you miss Cole technically I did not miss the Cole I

See it I just don’t want it right now but I do appreciate the concern all right now that is that let’s uh we’re going to get out of here and we need a ladder to do so he’s with Lecter pieces come into play now to put in two

We want to dig right there now I know I don’t need a shovel for this but I’m always one for the right tool for the job don’t you know whoops did I screw that up that’s okay let’s get rid of this there we go I know it’s going to bust

Through there eventually this will be our little floor deck of our observation area this manual labor it’s a real tough part once this is done is killing is the easy part killing comes easy alright so we have that you can put a torch over here again

We want to make sure our area here is well-lit you don’t want to be chewing on that bag of Doritos and have a zombie pop up behind us and kick us in the back of the head we choke on a Dorito that would be bad bad okay so now let’s let’s

Go over here and make our water ledge I did want to give props to one gentleman of videos n friend of mine who he was the first one I had seen this design by he had a tutorial on it I’m not sure if he was the first one to

Ever do it but his was the first that I saw using this particular method so props go to him thank you a video I’m going to put a link to his channel in the description here so you guys can go to his channel he’s got some really cool designs and minecraft very ingenious

Young man alright so this is going to be our water ledge we’re going to dump we’re going to pour water on each one of these blocks it’s going to flow right over the ledge we also want to put a little hole here so it’s one block out

From the ledge we’re going to pour water in there that’s going to create another flow from the sides and then the zombies are going to be carried down here with the current and drownded did it you did now we need our wall or glass wall is

Going to go out here one you want to leave a little space in the flooring oh gosh really breaking windows like that alright and let’s put a ladder here as well I’ve got to get those chests down get ready to collect much goodies and we’re going to also put a

Hole here for another Flowage side Flowage if you will let’s take a look at our handiwork here okay the torches are going to have to come down and that will kick off the spawning we need to cover this up which I will do now alright let’s fill this up a little bit

We don’t want any ugly as escaping and just peek around that corner yes yes alright now we can see the zombies we’re not going to whack their head on that now all day do that let’s make sure that looks okay guess it looks don’t really

Matter too much we just want to keep it cute kid I’m actually going to do this instead take that one out I think it’s going to look better if we keep it uniform nice straight line there we go make it glass you can make the whole

Thing glass if you like if you’re into that sort of thing the weirdo lonely block there to learn any block okay so that’s done now let’s take a peek e vici here Elroy it looks nice you can get rid of this I want to block any of you ah piano

Someone’s playing the piano in the dungeon okay looks good I think we’re all set so now let’s go put the water down at in order to do this we’re going to need a bit of water and to make a reusable water source I want to take our two

Buckets and make an infinite water supply this still works even to this day beta 1.9 pre-release – so you want to right-click in one corner empty out your bucket in that corner and touch a bucket in the opposite corner and now you have infinite water supply and goodbye cooked

Chicken for now now we have four buckets and let’s go pour it up all right arm torch is going to get taken by the water oh I just want to make sure I can reach these torches when I’m ready to leave so I think what I’ll

Do is put a little gravel why is the hole here we should lift the hoe at home eat a hoe on a spawn build project and now we’re just going to dump the water on the ledge one a-two a-three and four four okay now we got to go back down and

Get some more water this is the tedious part oh no that’s not if you have more than four buckets I recommend bringing them all lime climb like the wind so why do people do English accents so great about them I’m gonna get rid of that while I’m up here

And we’re going to dump this one here in the corner and that one in that little hole and I think we’re ready to skedaddle you’re ready wait a minute okay I’m on normal difficulties gonna make sure because once this goes clunk clunk clunk maybe in 12 hours

No one note that Elmo’s you know run for it so exciting okay get rid of the letter two pieces and cover that glass all right looks good you should probably brighten this up a little bit more so we don’t get any spawns on this side and one

Go back one more well all the goodies will collect right here interestingly enough you’re not clicking here to be long as they come underneath that wall yeah there we go there we go coming to me rotten flesh close enough I stand here it’ll get to me we just laugh and giggle haha

How’s the water wet letter oh gosh how long can you hold your breath and that’s pretty much it now let some curiosity no peak little fellas okay there is no time I had an extra torch it’s off the brake and this here and that there that’s gonna matter too much no light

That robot and there you go that’s pretty much it it is effective as you can see works quite well you can stand here and just again go through a bag of tube chips just watch the carnage you have a little trouble in there guys and that’s the water trap not too shabby

Works a treat and again I wouldn’t normally do this for run zombie flesh if I find a skeleton spawner that would make me extremely happy I haven’t found one of my tutorial world yet much rather have a trap around that that way you get bones and arrows but

That’s pretty much it this trap will work perfectly fine with either zombies or skeletons spiders are a little different story you need a few tweaks to this one or a lava trap for them maybe even cactus there you go certainly not the most efficient definitely you’re not going to get huge

Yield on this which isn’t one of these hundred five hundred rooms where you get thousands of items per minute or some nonsense like that but if you need a quick fix running a little low on zombie flesh doesn’t work just I don’t go through much in zombie flesh personally
