EPIC Minecraft 1.8 Snapshot: Guardian Monster, Elder Boss, Ocean Monument

This video intended for educational purposes hey guys it’s Adam a case women bird and welcome back for another Minecraft 1.8 snapshot this is 14 w 25 B and one of the biggest updates to the game ever with massive ocean monuments to explore to deadly new monsters to

Battle seven new blocks to collect in survival and a bunch more to cover so let’s get into it now unlike most snapshots we’re going to make this a bit more exciting by tackling this new underwater structure in all of its terrifying glory in survival mode so

I’ve got a bit of gear here some enchanted weapons and stuff like that but we’re going to jump in the water in a second I just have to get my water breathing night-vision and speed potion effects the reason I’m using commands instead of bottles is to get rid of

Those annoying stink swirls so you guys can see everything better so I’m going to jump in pop on my respiration helmet my boots here and we’re going to try to tackle this first with limited equipment only a few pieces of leather armor and see how we do so this is the new ocean

Monument a beautiful but treacherous new generated structure now this thing is huge there’s a reason it’s called a monument instead of a temple as it dwarves both the jungle and desert temples it can only spawn if it has a deep ocean biome at its centre but it

Can have any aquatic biome in a radius of 29 blocks around it so can cross over into regular or frozen oceans and rivers you can see it’s held up by 23 giant pillars and it’s made up of four new blocks which we’ll get into in a bit immediately you’ll also notice the one

Of the two new mobs here this is the Guardian a one-eyed spiky pufferfish looking monstrosity these guys only spawn in and around the ocean monuments and they will attack not only players but they’ll also attack squid as you can see here as well so we’re going to try

To fight some of these guys now you’re going to see a bunch of ink sacs all over the bottom here usually just because they kill so many squid all of the squid that spawn in the area just get killed by these guys it’s brutal so they attack using that crazy bubble

Laser beam that you just saw it fires up to 14 blocks and it can do four and a half parts of damage on Hard difficulty so as you can see it starts out by being a purple color then it charges and it turns into a yellowish color right

Before it does damage their spikes also extend and retract you can probably notice here now if you happen to hit them while their spikes are extended you will take about a heart of damage so you want to be a little careful there it’s kind of like a thorns enchantment that

They have naturally they have 15 hearts making them a bit tougher to kill than most mobs but not quite as strong as the Enderman they can easily gang up on you though so when you kill them they will drop a few things let me see if I can

Get one of these guys here I have a pretty good sword but not much armor they will drop raw fish and a few other things there a few new items that are used to craft some of the new blocks you’ll see we just got some prismarine shards but they’ll also occasionally

Drop prismarine crystals and you can see i’m going to try to shoot these guys with arrows but they won’t be very effective in this because in the update errors have been nerfed a bit underwater they will lose velocity after only traveling a few blocks and they’ll just fall slowly in the water

Flame arrows also extinguish when they’re underwater so it’s a bit tougher to fight these guys down here I’m going to put on a bit better armor let’s do some diamond I’ll switch this out just so we have a better fighting chance the only enchantments I have our

Respiration on my helmet so that we can breathe and see better and I also have a new enchantment it’s called depth Strider and it allows you to move around a lot faster you can see I’m going to walk and dash under here I can just kind of run around underwater like I’m just

Walking on the surface it’s a nice cool new enchantment that’ll make exploring the ocean monument a bit easier here I’m going to try to take out some of these guys as we go and let’s head inside now the chambers inside of the ocean monument are randomly generated they

Have a bunch of different ways that they can generate here and they use all these new blocks these guys like I mentioned will gang up on you very easily so you have to be very careful make sure that you bring a respiration helmet or some water breathing potions because there

Are no air pockets under here when this thing generates it generates with water to make sure no air pockets pop up and we’re going to try to move around here and see if we can make our way through this can get very confusing it’s it’s very

Days like in here and you you might want to mark your way with blocks as you go to help you see where you’re headed a little better let’s try going over this way there’s two wings on the side and a center chamber that you can find I can

Hear the sounds of these creatures they already have sound effects which is nice there we go now we can swim up here say you got to be very careful in here you’ll run out of air pretty quickly but luckily I have that water breathing potion they’ve been hitting me with

Stuff oh I have absorption that there we go that’s why we stopped the potion effects drop down here and hit this guy their eyes are really creepy they will follow you around and track you even when you’re in using invisibility potions they can still kind of track you

But they won’t attack you if they can’t see you really but they can kind of sense that you’re there so they look around now we’re going to enter a new chamber here and you’re going to see something you might notice my sword is going a bit slower I actually have

Mining fatigue on and you will get mining fatigue three every minute that you’re within the area of the monument and is because of the three mini bosses that reside in this place we glimpsed one a second ago so every minute that you’re within 50 blocks of this place

You will get strict struck in with mining fatigue I’m going to use this milk here so you guys can see what happens when I get hit with mining fatigue it’s pretty crazy let me see here let’s see if it’ll get me it happens once every minute so it might

Take a minute here to get it going but you should see it pretty quickly here it is really creepy and it involves this guy right around the corner I don’t want him to attack me so I want to be very careful here he should do his effect on me

This is whoa this is the elder Guardian it is a much older version of the normal Guardians and it’s much more powerful you can see it’s discolored because it’s so old and it’s a lot more powerful it also has 40 hearts instead of the 15

That these guys have so it can take a lot more damage the only things that are stronger than this guy in terms of hearts are bosses got the Giants and iron golems we just killed one there I have a very sharp sword here so I can kill them fairly easily and they dropped

Another one of the new whoa blocks this is the wet sponge block we’ll talk about that in a second so you just saw what I was alluding to that weird image of the Guardians face going over my screen that is what happens every minute that you’re within 50 blocks of them and

Gives you that mining three are mining fatigue three effect so definitely look out for that it makes it actually a lot more interesting in here because now we can’t just mine our way through this even with aqua affinity you can’t just break your way through steal the loot

And leave you actually have to go through kill all three of the elder Guardians and then once you do that you can actually mine and get all of the different treasures and things here I’m running out of Hearts so we got to be very careful usually you’ll be able to

Regenerate okay if you have a bit of underwater breathing but we’re going to be in trouble here if we don’t get out of your clicks oh yeah definitely keep your water breathing effect stuff like that use depth Strider and there’s a couple different treasures you can find

Here along with the new items there is a room in the center that has a bunch of gold blocks it’s eight gold blocks I’m going to go into creative so we can go around here a bit quicker and I can just show you what it looks like this is one

Of the rooms here with the Guardians the other wing we can kill the elder Guardian here and he’ll stop bugging us gonna kill him here so inside here we can see there are some some special blocks I believe if you break open these you can find stuff somewhere through

Here there’s a few rooms that you can find those wet sponge blocks if you break through them as well I think that wasn’t one of the rooms there but they’ll be on the ceiling in certain configuration so these aren’t going to be identical like the jungle and desert

Temples you can find different stuff which is pretty cool I like the variation of the chambers and the different stuff that you can find so you’re mainly going to be looking for that center chamber where you can get the gold block you’re going to want to

Try to get as much of the prison shard and crystals as you can so you can make the new blocks here and definitely look out for any wet sponge because that is very valuable I’ll go into that in a second here too but I’m going to go through in spectator

Mode them you can cut through there we go we found one of the wet sponge rooms this is one of the hidden areas and you can get this stuff these blocks are very rare they do drop from the elder guardian so you can get them that way as

Well but if you don’t find these rooms they’re very tough to find they have little water particles coming off of them which is really cool so we’re going to go in straight into the top of here if you go down into it this is the last Guardians chamber he’s kind of

Restricted up here they can’t move around very well so that makes them a bit easier but somewhere around here we should be able to find that last chamber with the golde that is the the big mother lode loot in this area it’s kind of tough to

Find like I said this place is like a maze so the Guardians they have some peculiar qualities they’re actually resistant to fire so if you ever get them on the surface and try to light them on fire it’s not going to work out very well for you you’re going to have trouble

Fighting them out there and they won’t die and suffocate on the land like the squid would they actually can flap around and stay alive doing a little x-ray in here to see if we can find that one treasure chamber but they’ll stay alive on the water and they actually have different sound

Effects on the surface which is really cool Nora Walker it’s kind of like deeper and muffled but when we’re on the surface you guys will be able to hear the crazy sound effects that they do when they’re on there because they sound really high-pitched and scary I’m gonna see if

I can find here we go we found it okay so this is the main treasure chamber here surrounded by all these blocks and if you can beat all the Guardians then you can actually break through here and you can find the eight blocks of gold

Here that you can take out so yeah the main treasure here are all the new blocks and stuff like that and also the gold it’s a pretty cool place I like how big it is and it’s it’s insane so we’re going to head out here I want

To show you guys the new mobs though a little bit closer and what they look like when we’re not underwater here are the two types of guardians I have some barrier blocks floating around here making it so that these guys will not you know be blocked by anything so you

Guys can look at them directly but they also won’t fall because they’re stuck on the barriers so they’re flopping around and if you listen you can hear them flop in and oh there we go they’re little squeal so yeah it’s weird because underwater their sound is distorted and deeper but above water

They’re a lot a lot more high-pitched and stuff and like I said these guys can survive on water and they’ll still try to attack squid and stuff so if you pull them on land they won’t you know die immediately like you would think but yeah the the underwater monument here

The ocean monument is pretty crazy I actually have one above water if you guys want to get a nicer look at it here before we move into the other features real quick you guys can check this out here we go I pulled one out and put it

Above up in the clouds to make it look like a kind of a flying City here and you can see it in all of its glory it the pill at the bottom will kind of break a little bit if they generate around other you know gravel and stone they’ll kind

Of form around it so they might not be perfect but here it is it’s really cool I love how its design now I mentioned that it’s made up of a few new blocks we’re going to go take a look at those new blocks and how you get them you can

Actually mine most of them from here except for one of them the sea lantern you can actually cannot mine it will break when you break it but the other ones you can mind normally with a pick if you break them by handle to shatter so here are the four new blocks

We’ve got prismarine this is the the main kind of more natural looking block here and you can use the prisoner Ian shards that that drop from the guardians to build these you just make a little square there to make prismarine and this actually it glows a few different colors

If you sit here and watch it for a while it’ll like cycle through all these different colors and it looks really cool it’s just awesome how they they add a little bit of a glow to it now if you want to do nine of these you can get the

Prism ring brick which is pretty cool look in here it’s a bit more solid the guardians actually look like they’re kind of made out of this it’s a bit of camouflage for them so they can hide in the monuments there now over here we have the dark prismarine you need an ink

Sack from the squid that the Guardians have been so fond of killing you put that in the center and you can get the dark prison marine this is used to protect the gold and kind of line the monument and then last year we have the sea lantern which actually glows

Underwater it’s got kind of an animated texture there you can see it like radiates out from the center you need the new prison ring crystals to do this and they’re a bit rarer to find they will drop from the mobs and you can break the lanterns in the temple to get

Them but these are a bit tougher to craft we also have a few other new blocks so course dirt originally this was only found in like mega Tyga’s around the podzol forests and stuff and now it actually has a different texture here you can see it’s a bit darker than

Normal dirt you can now craft this with normal dirt combined with gravel in a little checkerboard pattern I’ll put some normal dirt you can see it’s a bit lighter there the normal dirt is now this dirt actually won’t grow grass over it just like the natural stuff but you

Can craft it now so it’s nice if you want a dirt area without grass growing over it that’s how you do it now over here we have a new way to get cracked stone brick you don’t just have to loot it from the stronghold you can actually

Grab it with a furnace and throw it in there we’re going to start smelting it and as its melts it will become cracked stone brick which is pretty awesome that’s a new way to get that so it’s renewable now if you can make your stone

Brick and over here we have a new block that is actually an old block the sponge the sponge actually has a function now and there’s a new form the wet sponge so you can see it has a new texture which looks nice and if you place it down near

Water it will actually suck up and destroy water blocks around it in a five-block radius it just kind of makes a little sphere and it gets rid of a bunch of water there you can see it sounds like it’s breaking leaves or something there and then once the sponge

Sucks up the water it becomes a wet sponge block and the only way to get it back to a normal sponge block is to pop the the wet sponge into a furnace and cook it up and then it will actually turn back into a normal sponge and a

Nice new feature here with this is once it transfers to a normal sponge if you have a bucket in there the water that was in the sponge will be transferred into the bucket so you get a little bit of water there and you can refill your buckets if you’re in a situation where

You don’t have water readily available there you go you can make it so we’ve got all these new blocks that’ll be very handy for building underwater and clearing out places if you wanted to like clear out the ocean Monument and live there you could use the sponge to

Do that previously was very tough to get rid of water if you’re going to try to do stuff like that so over here I’ve got a few other things to show now huge mushrooms these blocks were a bit tougher to get in the past if you silk

Touch you would get this kind of little weird spotty underbelly texture on your blocks but now if you hit one of these guys with a silk touch pick it will actually drop a special new mushroom block that you can see it will have all set sides being the texture that you see

At the top of the mushroom so it’ll work for this one as well and you get the brown version there so that’s a nice little way to get those blocks if you want to build with them you can make I made these little exclamation marks above them so it’s pretty cool and

Exciting there goes my sword let’s grab that again now a few things over here you might notice these it look like I was a bit half-asleep or confused when I built these but no you can actually grab these blocks and make the wither and both golems any orientation you want as

Long as the pattern is similar you can put it together there we’ve got a golem that was laying on its side we can pop one here and we will have a snow golem that was upside down and we can make the wither I don’t want to do it though cuz

He’ll kill everything in the area but uh you know we could do it I guess uh so they’re custom whether he’s could shoot and stuff so he’ll fly around there the golems neck was broken that was true but yeah so you can make them any way you

Want now which is pretty cool a few other little changes really quick here so stairs if you look in your inventory stairs now have a weird orientation they’re kind of flipped I think this was intentional it looks a bit glitchy but I think that was what they intended

They’re flipped around kind of there’s been a lot of tweaking of different block IDs and data states and stuff oh man he’s going after the squid he’s taken after the Guardians there he wants to be one of the new mobs because he’s a bit older now he’s a little jealous so a

Few other things slabs you can no longer get the double slab blocks they’ll now just break into two slabs and you can’t really get the the double slab in any item form that’s combined since it looks just like the normal block for the slab types of blocks if you look at the

Player list when you’re in multiplayer it actually shows the face of the player next to their name so it’s easy to identify them by skin their signs and written books now can use JSON text to have little commands that you can click on in there and do different color texts

And stuff no way to do this in survival yet they’re still trying to figure out a way to do it but it’s a nice new addition so we can finally spice up our signs and books without having to you know go through other means a bunch of different stuff was changed with the

Rendering engine to fix up how models of items and stuff are rendered the the clone command that was added for 1.8 now has a filtering mode to get rid of unnecessary blocks when you’re cloning stuff a few bugs have been fixed actually a ton of bugs but the two big

Ones that I wanted to highlight one is a little unfortunate if you’ve ever used redstone or string in a lava water generator to turn it into obsidian that has been fixed now so you cannot do that any longer unfortunately to to get your obsidian easily but the other bug fix

That is actually pretty good is that zombie sieges and villages had a lot of issues and the person that reported the bug with the zombie sieges actually gave Mojang a fix that they implemented so now zombie sieges which are kind of exciting things that haven’t happened in

A while because of a bug will now work properly in villages so make sure you protect your villagers from those zombies but yeah that is pretty much it pretty much it there’s a lot of stuff obviously we went through it all thank you guys for joining me and being
