the go in my living room um each tier increases the amount of the combs generated per bead and decreases the amount of time the bee spends in the apiary An apiary can only be occupied by nine unique biz this means that no more than one of each bee type can be inside the apiary block at a time okay as many bees as you’d like can be inside the structure however some players have found optimal ways yeah this project’s also second time if you mean balls of your and they haven’t been assigned a project yet i played the fifth you fell in multiples I mean you can’t pass up when you see some it i would Say it was medium yeah i mean it wasn’t like brand new honey also we haven’t um we haven’t extracted it from the community that’s what i was trying to say yeah i’m sorry i interrupted you that’s okay i’ve been interrupting you so it’s it’s only fair valen is corbin dallas if only He had a little bit more hair um but uh the uh the the bee the the frames that we’ve harvested have not been as she said uh extracted yet so they’re still sitting in the frames uh upstairs at the moment until we get time for it darker is better well darker tastes total Usually very different yeah it varies on what the pollen was that they’re bringing in for it and stuff i tried the darker stuff i’ve had a few different a few different darker uh ones they’re still good but i don’t care for them as much i like the light stuff Specifically like more of a clover or a wildflower those ones are probably my favorite what makes honey darker um particulates uh well that’s one thing the other thing is like uh um buckwheat buckwheat honey is a really good one that’s really dark so it’s very dark so You can get a lot of the it will take on the um the colors of the flowers that are often pollinated by the bees you know the stuff they bring in so Goth bees yes there you go now the comb that the color of that usually is dependent upon how old it is the brand new stuff is often really pale white and really pretty um stuff that’s been there for a bit is usually like you know kind of like the the colors up here Uh you know like the the orangey yellowy bit and then um you’ve got old comb which is quite dark it often will be like the like the lines in this crafting table or the uh the the brown on the cover of this book that stuff can be really hard to dig through Especially if you’re trying to crush it squid ink honey so it’s black honey didn’t know you could get honey from the little rascals tulip tree also leatherwood oh and yes to buckwheat but still delicious it all depends on the person that’s tasty uh like i said buckwheat honey was Probably some of the darkest i’ve had it was it was a bit strong honestly um it was a little bit too much for for my taste but i did still i mean it was still tasty i just didn’t care for it as much as i like a lot of the lighter honeys I like a good like medium medium light honey whatever that is what about you kashka um what honey do i like yeah like what kind of work i am not fussed a true honey queen um what kind of honey are your bees making wildflower wildflower uh maybe maybe a bit of course um Yeah it’s gonna be a mix right because yeah uh i’m gonna rant a little bit now so you have to forgive me um but anybody who says that their honey is like all one particular kind as is is doing one or two things unless maybe there’s other methods that i don’t Know about right but i’ll try to keep my run minimal but they’re doing either one of two things either they’re kind of not being completely honest with you right or they’re isolating their bees to one particular crop yep and i neither of those things are particularly good in my my humble Opinion maybe for a short time i mean we’ve seen people like um drop off beehives in the middle of a field they leave it there for like for [ __ ] sake they leave it there for like a week or something and then they’ll maybe two weeks and then they’ll take it Out move it to another area um that would be a different crop now that’s not bad okay if it’s all the same crop though it’s not good for the bees you okay yeah i’m trying to catch this speed um well okay but bees move honey around the hive a lot yep But you can’t say that like yeah it’s really difficult to say you have to keep your bees yeah uh ours probably also has a pretty decent amount of clover in it as well because we had a massive outburst of clover at the in the front Front yard of the of the craft that was really so pretty it was just like mounds of it it was fantastic diversity yeah absolutely they do need diversity in their diet adding and removing bees to and from the structure easier and import and export feature is provided wait So you have to like import and export the bees they can’t just do that diversity is nearly always a good thing in all ways of butt i like creamed aka whipped honey well that could be the honey that we were that we had last we got last season which was like uh Heather bunch of the workers like from the hive and they go off and find a new place to live And they did this and moved to our neighbor’s chimney so so we were able to kind of collect them after um you know after a bit of a pallava and they’re now installed um in their own separate hive so uh yeah the thing that we have like now is Well actually more than one of the hives formed so the other hive ended up in a dead tree in our other neighbor’s yard um the downside is that she’s really actually afraid of these so yeah we had to help her take some precautions to stop them getting in her place in her House right she likes bees though she does really like bees she’s just and she’s super curious about them she’s just really afraid of them so um so she’s got this dead tree behind her house the bees are now in there so we’ve been trying to think of a way to get Them out of there because the tree is pretty close to the house and we’re probably not qualified enough to take it down without i’m work i’d be worried about doing damage to our house so um but i was you know on twitter the other day like i do and um Saw this thread because this this this is super nerdy um but there’s a beekeeper’s hour on twitter super nerdy it’s fantastic um but um so i saw somebody post on the beekeepers hour on so somebody tweet a thread of how they converted their shop vac into a bee collection device So now we’re kind of thinking that maybe we could do this and vacuum the bees out of the tree yep because there’s a big old opening in the top so there’s also a lot of small side openings you might be able to jam a nozzle into yeah so Yeah we’ve seen like somebody do this before and it was like okay that’s nuts but but now um that was really janky version though yeah yeah i mean you don’t get much jankier than what we saw yeah but but the one in the twitter thread looked way more professional and like yeah Find the queen and relocator they’re like um i think i would have to so it’s in this like um in this y of the tree like like the trunk goes up right and then it splits into like four and in the opening is where this hollow has formed and so they’re Down inside the trunk and the best place to reach them or that actually the only real way to reach them is by reaching down from the top and i don’t feel like i could safely nab a bee from there if that makes sense does that make sense I started dump truck vacuum thing for prairie dogs sucked them right out of their homes oh wow jeez vacuum wasps one time they chewed their way through the vacuum bag and raged well we’re not we’re not thinking of keeping them in a bag um we’re thinking of just vacuuming them Directly into what’s called a nuke box do you want to explain what that is oh yeah yeah um so a nuke box is like a little mini beehive so when you’ve only got a small colony of bees they don’t have to like try and because bees will try and maintain a hive like The interior like they cover it with propolis to seal up any like drafty bits and they do stuff like that right so when there’s only a small amount of bees and they’re trying to do this as well as like like rear more bees and collect honey And or collect nectar and all this stuff right then it becomes like overwhelming for them so the nuke box allows them to have a smaller space it also allows them to regulate the temperature better because it’s smaller and then it’s like a half width hive if that makes sense it’s it’s For beginning we do both have smokers yeah it’s yeah it’s probably just what i was looking for oh it’s for uh beginning uh uh whoa oh tiny little what they call like a queen cell um well they call multiple things queensland but where the queen was and then she it was sucked majorly because um so what’s supposed to happen is while the bees are in transit right they put a little sugar stopper in the end of the Little spot where the queen is and while the bees are in transit they’re supposed to eat away at that sugar and let the queen out of the area and by then they should have all accepted the queen and everybody’s happy right what happened with my box was for one reason or Another and i don’t know if it’s because they didn’t accept the queen or whatever but but um the queen was dead actually in the box would be the first box of bees that i ever had so we had to like re-queen it which was a whole thing Um but newt boxes are usually a bit bigger than the ones that the queens are deli oh then like a starter colony is delivered yeah and actually the colony i think the colony that we just pulled out of the chimney is um is uh smaller than the first colony that i have It’s this probably the smallest colony that i’ve ever that i’ve ever seen they’re pretty pretty tiny crazy trend there’s an eclipse or something going on they’re having a michigan honey festival this year oh that sounds interesting is that to go with the uh the honeydew melons as well first Japanese giant hornets last year nightmares becoming real it tells you oh you actually saw it oh god wait what where oh god that was yeah i’m actually quite afraid of those giant hornets too oh and frankenmus nice that seems like a good spot for like everything that it touched like they’ll clean it off with their mouths so that it doesn’t leave any scent glands or anything like that for the uh The intruders to find their way back if they’re a good building an apiary extremely simple the structure consists of an apiary on api and apiary storage any block from the valid apiary tag and optionally an apiary breeder The size of the structure should breeder upgrades are nice i haven’t tried nopes i don’t know if we need to breed These these bees right now but i do feel like a storage upgrade would be a good idea and that requires that that that
