Minecraft Horror Game: Terrifying Youtubers

Minecraft is not scary but what if I change that because I’m going to turn Minecraft into a horror game with custom items mechanics and monsters to terrify your favorite YouTubers and I’m going to do it with no mods but how see 9 months ago I created Minecraft’s creepiest escape room and I

A plan to scare some of Minecraft’s smartest players we need to cover four bases firstly a setting more specifically a scary one because even with a bloodthirsty monster chasing you nobody will be scared if they’re running around a McDonald’s drive-thru so we need to build a huge space for players

To explore and most importantly be terrified by our second task textures Minecraft textures are just not scary but luckily with texture packs I can edit Minecraft’s default texture textures meaning with a few new files I can turn a boring room into a terrifyingly realistic space but textures alone won’t scare our players

Leading us to objective number three sounds there are tons of sounds already in Minecraft most of which are pretty normal okay that was not normal which is why we’re going to design our own sound effects and modify some of the existing ones to put my friends even more on edge

But none of these compare to the final part of my plan mechanics these include adding custom flick ing lights items a monster and yes jump scares so stick around to see just how scary I can make the game and just how scared my friends will be but before all of that we need

To tackle the setting unfortunately there’s a lot of scary places we can build a haunted house a graveyard but by far the scariest place I could imagine was school now I know what you’re thinking Perry schools are not scary they’re bright with a lot of people and

Are overall just boring which is true during the day but make it night time and suddenly Everything Changes now there’s no brightness with no people and it’s very very isolating so with that in mind I started building up a floor plan for the school making sure to include a

Variety of different room sizes there were a few different rooms we needed to include bathrooms a cafeteria classrooms like like a lot of classrooms and a library which I purposefully made super dark for reasons you’ll see later I also set aside this one corner in cyan wool

Which may look like nothing but I assure you is going to be super super important later and finally I built the nurse’s office which is going to house something absolutely horrifying but for now I finished up the first level of the school and added a second level with

Some extra especially creepy rooms to finish up the map I decorated the exterior of the building and blocked off everything with leaves to make sure that nobody could Escape but there was a slight problem the insides of the school don’t really look scary like at all but that was intentional for task two

Textures see right now the whole school looks awful but luckily we can change that with texture packs all we need to do is paint some new files rename them and suddenly the whole atmosphere changes I did this a lot I transformed weird blocks into pearly surfaces LED lights out of frog lights and

Transformed a room in the upstairs house to have a really creepy wallpaper but replacing textures wasn’t the only thing I was focused on I was also spending time making new blocks completely like remember how I mentioned something horrifying in the nurse’s office well that horrifying thing is this baby at

The end of this very long dark tunnel can you imagine seeing this thing in real life I don’t think there’s a word to describe just how fast I would crap my pants but after finishing the block textures and building a house out of the baby’s face because why not I started

Playing around with the games GUI to remove the crossair and boxes in the screen the last thing I did was apply a Shader pack which made everything look a million times more realistic and therefore a million times scarier I mean just look at the shadows and the glow of

The lights finally we’re getting somewhere but now we have to tackle our third objective sounds the main two sounds I wanted to change were footsteps and doors because players would be interacting with these a lot so I added some Reverb to turn them from this into this it’s subtle but the little Echoes

Make the school seem that much more empty but more importantly are ambient sounds notice how scary Minecraft’s ambient cave sounds are the reason is because we don’t expect them and it triggers a feeling of Doom which is why we’re going to make sounds that do the exact same thing I scoured the internet

For sounds to scare the hell out of your Friends yeah baby just got stolen let’s just cue The Sting real quick sounds like my dad ew e and made a bunch of different ambient noises which will trigger randomly as they walk around I also added in this running sound effect which will indicate that something is near the players in the

School alongside a little child giggling sound effect cuz that’s Mis ious and silly and finally I added in this nursery rhyme because what screams I’m going to die more than shop sticks on a music box which led us to the final and most insane part of this map mechanics

See Minecraft has a list of commands in game that players can use to do certain things but with so many commands you can start to explore really insane Minecraft mechanics and we’re going to start with the torch or should I say the flashlight but most flashlights don’t emit light

Around you they emit it in a beam but how do we possibly create a beam of light surely that’s not possible without some sort of pumpkin we just need a pumpkin this is what I mean by using the weirdest game features see when putting a pumpkin on your head you suddenly have

This overlay however with our texture pack we can change what it looks like so by erasing a circle from a black screen we now have a much creepier flashlight all I have to do is detect when players are holding a torch and place a pumpkin on their head and now our lights are

Working I also went ahead and made a chain of commands for turning the school completely pitch black alongside flickering lights just to creep everyone out a little bit more but by this point everything was centered around creepiness and I think it was time to focus on horror so I went back to my

Models and found my last Model Lucy everybody say hi to Lucy she’s about to scare the out of everyone by putting this model on an armor stand and then repeatedly teleporting that armor stand to me we created our own Minecraft monster without any mods this map is about to get even crazier because

Remember that cyan wool Corner that I told you to remember well we’re about to turn this into the coolest elevator you’ve ever seen see Minecraft just recently added a new entity called block displays these are kind of like blocks in the way that they look but by using

Commands we can scale them up rotate them and most importantly animate them so by creating our elevator purely out of these blocks we can give our player the levitation effect and carefully animate the blocks to move at the same rate and after a long can we go up I

Stand corrected we don’t go up we actually stay where we are long oh no oh no oh no what is happening long time of experimenting oh that’s not what I meant I finally found the right settings we’re there baby we’re there that’s sick and with a little door

Opening and closing animation as well as some new sounds our game now has a fully moving elevator with only commands I then went ahead and decorated our map with some cool displays which you’ll see in just a second before moving on to the most important part of this entire map

Jump scares now we already added a loud jump scare sound but we needed to figure out how to show the jump scare image on the screen yes we could just let people stare at the baby in the dark hallway or we can make the baby jump out at the

Player but how this is where a feature that 99% of players don’t even know about comes in the most insane Minecraft feature I’ve ever discovered BS I know I know I sound crazy but bear with me this is actually insane in our texture pack we can code in our very own font to

Display in the game like this or like this oh does this say subscribe I think uh yeah you should uh you should do that mhm yep I agree fonts in Minecraft don’t need to be texts what can they be instead images and if we go in game we

Can use this command to show our very own image as a huge jump scare I added two more of these jump scares into the game all of which you’re about to see because now our school is finally complete and is ready to be toured by some of your favorite Minecraft content
