How to Prevent Minecraft Server Lag!
Have you ever wanted to minimize lag on your Minecraft server? Or are you looking at ways to prevent lag on an upcoming server you are creating? In today’s video, the content creator teaches you how to prevent the majority of lag on your server using a free plugin called Fast Chunk Pregenerator. If you enjoy this video, make sure to like and subscribe, as it really helps the Minecraft server community.
Plugin Installation and Configuration
Because a large portion of the lag that your server will ever have is from generating new chunks, you can prevent your server from ever having to generate new chunks altogether by pregenerating your world. The tutorial explains that if you are running on decently modern hardware, then this method is likely enough to prevent most, if not all, lag on your server. However, if you are running older hardware or plan on having lots of users on your server, you may need to consider alternative options, such as a more optimized server.jar.
To pregenerate chunks on your Minecraft server, start by navigating to the Spigot page provided in the video description and download the Fast Chunk Pregenerator plugin. Then, upload the plugin to your server’s plugins folder and restart your server to install it. After installation, minimal configuration is required to set up the pregeneration process.
Pregeneration Process
The pregeneration process takes time and lots of server resources. If your server is currently active, it is recommended to have a day of downtime to pregenerate your server. Alternatively, if your server has a low player count and is sometimes inactive, you can configure the plugin to pregenerate chunks only when the server is empty.
Additionally, if you are running the Paper server.jar, you will need to make specific changes to decrease the amount of lag your players will experience while the plugin is pregenerating chunks. Finally, you will need to configure the number of cores your server has to optimize the pregeneration process.
Starting the Pregeneration
Once all the configuration is done, you can start the pregeneration process by setting up a world border using the /worldborder set command and then running the command to start the generation.
