Ultimate Minecraft Survival Tips: Power Up Your Rails!

Hi everybody welcome to my minecraft tutorial this is episode number 33 in my how to survive and thrive series today I’m going to show you how to make powered rails and how to use them in a rail system a track system like I have here in order to give you our mind car

It’s a little automatic powered boost and in fact I have some right here it’s just a simple block and I’ll show you how to craft these in a second and you just add them to a rail system like I have here and when your cart comes in

Contact with that powered rail it shoots it forward just like so so let’s get started the first thing we need to do is actually craft some so head over to your workbench and I’m going to show you what you need okay so open up the workbench

Now you will need gold and redstone for this so these are not cheap to make but they are worth every penny so go ahead and put your gold in like so one bit of redstone there and a stick here and that will yield you six powered rail now I’ve

Already got some built up for this demonstration so gonna have to waste so much time and let’s go over now to the rail okay now that we are armed with powered rail let’s plug it into our system here into the track and I’ll show you what these things can do so the

First thing we want to do is create some space on our track now going to assume you already have a track system made up a rail rail track somewhere if you don’t go make one and come back I have a tutorial all about it but from mine

Since it’s already made up what I’m going to do is pick a spot here and there’s a logic behind where you choose these things and I’ll explain that as I go along but what you want to do is just take your powered rail and plop it right in and these essentially have to

States’s on in this off and right now without a powered source you’re going to need some redstone to power this sucker up it’s off and it went a kart encounters this thing where’s my cards it’ll act as a brake if it’s unpowered let me go grab a cart and I’ll show you

How this works so if I push this here give it a it hits that and see how it acts as a break it just stops because that powered rail is actually not to power at the moment now to power it up we need some kind of power source and to do that you

Can use redstone I’m going to use a redstone torch there’s also a detector rail which you can use I’m not going to get into that right now but I’ll show you very briefly now as you can see the color changes and that means it’s powered now an unoccupied cart will not

Be powered it won’t it won’t be pushed along the track very far and I’ll show you how far I think it’s about eight blocks now if it’s occupied it does actually push it much farther and when it will good catch so later in the demonstration I’ll show you how far

According to the wiki an occupied cart will be pushed hurtled forward about what does it say I think 60 or 80 or something like that now it’s going to slow down over a period of the course of time as it gets farther and farther from that initial shove so you want to space

These things out optimally the wiki says somewhere around I think it said 25 or so and you want to you know because these are so expensive and it takes gold to make in redstone you kind of want to spread them out as much as you possibly can

Unless you’re wealthy and you can make your own rail system powered if you’d like but for me I’m not wealthy I work for my money and I’ve earned every ounce of gold that I have well not all the time sometimes I cheat for science but

So what I’m going to do is spread these out about maybe 25 30 or so so let’s do that right now I’m just going to go all the way around and I’ll count out well let’s see I probably have enough to do you know what I’m going to do one two

Three four five six seven eight nine I’m just going to find my torches I’ll try to keep this thing uniform actually that’ll look a little nicer I’m going to go right around the entire track like so now there are other ways oh I forgot to put the powered railing

Ding-dong there are many ways to power these guys and you can have you can string redstone long and put buttons livers and all that fun stuff but I’m not going to do that in this demonstration I’m just going to make very simple always on powered rail right

In the middle of my rail system and I will not do this all on camera because it will get too little boarding so what I’ll do is I’ll cut out right here and when I come back I’ll have the entire rail system upgraded with my booster

Rails I’ll be right back okay I’m back I’m actually not done but I wanted to give you a quick demonstration of how far and fast this thing can go so I’m going to put the cart down I’m going to give a little shove it needs to momentum

To get started and I will explain that later when we when I build a junction over there and show you how to make turns and how to get this thing rolling so if I give it a little push here gets to the next one gets to the next one

Those rails will give it a shove about 60 I think is what the wiki said as long as something’s in it whoa alright let’s test that theory right now so the last one was right there should start to slow down now now obviously the closer you have these the faster it’s

Going to travel so that’s why I’m putting mine so close together you don’t have to do that if you’re low on gold you could literally put these everyone every sixty blocks but optimally to keep it running at a kind of uniform speed now this is all on a level surface by

The way because when you start going climbing incline that changes the rules so it did I could make it all the way around from that one there it did boost me all the way around to here although it you know tends to slow down quite a bit so you could

Spread these out 3040 again if you want the optimal spread you’re going to have to go to the wiki and check it out I think it I think it said something in the 30s but I will leave that research up to you this is just the way I like to

Back up I’ll show you how how it works on an incline on a hill because you’ve got to put them much closer together Oh because even occupied or in particular when is occupied when you’re going up a hill the power booster powered rail only gives you enough momentum to get up

Maybe I think four blocks or something it’s not very good so shoot I don’t think I have enough heaven in here I do not I can make more though we can make more excuse me oh I can’t even make more have enough gold alright what are you doing in my cart I’m so

Like it’s stuck so there are a couple of different ways we can do this okay so hopping into this thing giving a shove and hopping in is kind of a pain in the Kiester and it doesn’t always work so what we want to do is put a

Powered rail on an incline on this block right here because okay beat that way there we go so now that’s unpowered and we’re going to power this with a little lever so its acts as a brake right now and it’ll need I’ll need some momentum

Now I can sit in here all day it’s not going to go anywhere but what I’m going to do is put a button here to power it up and the momentum from the incline or decline rather it will give us just enough little momentum down that little

Slope and that’ll force it on to the powered booster rail which will give us a shove and hopefully get us to that one alright so let’s try that out so what I need is place to put a button so let’s do that right here now it has to be next

To this now I don’t know if you notice but I had a little snowstorm in my tutorial world never had that before kind of stinky all right so let’s see how that’s really close isn’t it let’s move that back a little yeah yeah you know what I don’t need you

Anymore don’t need you anymore let’s put the things in my hands that will be useful what I do is this alright so put a button there’s my button you going to need some redstone so we want to do is power that up like so brake on sit in

There and then when I’m ready to roll boom meet you Oh what happened there Suns on its rise hey good boy you just missed the Train wait come back I gots to get to work and blow stuff up sorry take the next train my boss will be mad

Just no I don’t want to kill you but what I’m going to do in the next tutorial is I will show you how to make a junction here it’s going to be a 3-way junction is going to have three buttons I’ll be able to choose which direction I

Wish to go in okay all these footsteps and make me nervous so it’ll stop I’ll have three unpowered rails in an unpowered state so when the cart lands on the middle stop I’ll press the button and determine which direction I want to go and I’ll do that in the

Next tutorial now as you can see over here this went all the way back down and went back to the reset position just waiting to be ridden again pretty cool stuff oh here comes nuts nest you know I like my tutorial world without snow I mean I like snow on the

Ground but this just covers up everything it froze my entire Beach see I can’t even swim there I can’t even take a boat out anymore mmm I grumble so there you have it that’s powered rail let me think is there anything else I need to show you are look at this or

Grumble oh of course there is let me just show you how the on how the detector rails work a detector rail is crafted mmm it spun around in the snow like so techhdarre let’s see iron and redstone pressure plates so that’s a detective rail so basically it’s a rail

With a button on it and what that does now I’ve already got some made up here is it provides power when a cart lands on it so let’s just say for example I didn’t have that there now this is unpowered now if I wanted to power it

And you can use these to set up powered rails to only work when the car actually hits it now I’m not sure how useful they are honestly I like just have the always on power with the putt with the with the redstone torch frankly but if you wanted

To have something like this you could put the booster rail I mean the detector rail on each side does cause some problems though occasionally it won’t provide power because it only provides power for brief instant so let’s do this I’ll have to give it a shove

Now watch what happens when it hits it say turns the power on and then it gives you gives a little push now that will hopefully go all the way around maybe not all right pick it up so that’s how a detector rail works and you can use

These and all kinds of contraptions I did a beta test video where I had the detector rail powered up like you could run some redstone off the side here if you wanted to open a door or something so when the cart runs over this and provides power to other things that

Could be cool that could be fun like I had a dispenser shooting chicken eggs in my test and yeah that was fun it wasn’t extremely useful but it was pretty cool to watch eggs flying out of the dispenser as we as the train came by let’s just fix this

Up so it works for the rest of the folks wait a minute now I live here alone well you get the idea anyway so that’s it that’s powered rails detector rails a very basic usage but you guys can mess around with those learn more and I will
