What’s up everyone and welcome to another Minecraft farm tutorial in this video we’re going to be looking at squid Farms I designed this Farm in Bedrock but it should also work in Java as well the only things that I’m not 100% sure on are the squid spawning mechanics and The timer so for the squid spawning mechanics I tried to give it a Google but there’s a lot of misinformation about it on the internet like it says that for both versions squids don’t spawn way up in the air but this is definitely not the case I have never Known this to be the case maybe in a really old update this was a thing but it’s definitely not true nowadays and the timer is just a standard Hopper clock so if you’re playing in Java I would double check to make sure that you know how to build a timer and that Squids will spawn way up in the air you can make this Farm as big or as small as you want it to be so some of these numbers will change depending on how big you make it the bottom row however is all in exact quantities you will need Exactly those numbers of those items now the glass and the iron blocks can actually be any blocks of your choice I just recommend using glass so that you can see the squids spawning just to make sure everything is working correctly but you will need a bunch of magma for your Spawning platform and as for the location of the farm you will either need to build this over a river or over the ocean the ocean will give you better rates because it spawns more squids but maybe you have a river next to your base that you’re wanting to turn into a squid Farm building it above a river is a little bit different than building it above an ocean so I will talk about using a river at the end of the video but really for either design as long as you build it more than 44 blocks above the water level it will work just fine Mobs will spawn up to 44 blocks away from the player so you want the farm to be at least 44 blocks away from any other body of water because you wouldn’t want squids to spawn where they’re not supposed to and ruin the rates of your farm because of this I would recommend Building it up at y 110 you know that will guarantee that you’re more than 44 blocks away from other bodies of water and really quick let me just mention a few things one that you can make this as big or as small as you would would like It to be you know you can expand it horizontally and make it as wide as you would like or you can expand it vertically and make it as tall as you like but also there needs to not be anything above this Farm you know squids Will not spawn if there is a block above their head so you cannot glass it off or build it underneath something and then also the player needs to be at least 22 blocks away from the farm for squids to spawn so just keep all of that in mind When picking a location to build this but when you’re ready to start building simply head out to the middle of the ocean again we’ll talk more about the river mechanics at the end of the video so go out to the middle of the water where your platform won’t be overlapping any Land and then we’re going to build up to Y 110 I would also recommend putting a ladder on this Tower just in case you fall off you know I’ve been known to fall off of my squid Farms while I’m building them and then it’s frustrating Trying to get back on top of them and once you’ve towered up just build a little platform to give you some room to work with build this off in the direction that you want the farm to be and you’ll be expanding this PL platform as needed so don’t worry about making it A certain size but we’re going to start off by placing two temporary blocks and a chest on top of it now this is going to be the corner of the farm where all of your ink gets collected then place a hopper in the back of that chest with a Powered Rail and a mine cart with hopper on top of it now this is going to be the very corner of your farm and we need a solid block next to the mine cart diagonally up from the hopper so the farm is going to go off in this Direction now depending on how big you want to make the farm we’re going to build a platform at the same WI high level as that Hopper and we can go ahead and break out these temporary blocks underneath the chest also I would recommend chunk aligning this platform But you don’t really have to you know just anytime you’re using Minecarts you know it’s it’s a good idea to chunk align just to keep them from glitching out or despawning but it’s really not necessary but once you finish your platform it’s time to build the rails so We want a powered rail on top of this Hopper with a regular rail next to it and then some powered rails and then some regular rails and then some more powered rails the number of powered rails you need really just depends on the size that you make it so it’s always Good to test to make sure the mine cart goes the whole way but whenever you get back to the very beginning you need to place a temporary block right here next to the hopper so that you can place a temporary rail so that you can place these rails without them connecting to The first rail and then you can go ahead and break out that temporary Rail and that temporary block and no matter how big you make this Farm you want all your powered rails to be lined up next to each other this will just make it easier To power them later on so just continue placing your pattern of rails across the entire platform and when you come to the very last row just be sure to place nothing but powered rails at the very very end and then a block diagonally up from that rail that way the minecart Will go really fast at the end hit the wall and have enough speed to come back and now we just need to test it to make sure we have enough powered rails you know if the mine cart doesn’t go all the way it’s really easy to just add powered Rails so don’t worry about it but before we can test it we need to power these rails so the way we’re going to do this is we’re going to build a little platform underneath the line of powered rails you know so figure out where your line of powered rails is and simply Build a platform all the way across underneath those rails you know this will make it really easy just to place some levers on the bottom of the blocks with the rails on it you know I just also like building this as a marker so that I know exactly where the powered Rails are without actually having to look and once you’ve got your platform it’s time to place levers on the bottom of the blocks with the powered rails on top and be sure to turn on the levers as you go now placing the levers in your Head is kind of annoying you know so you can always walk backwards and place the levers or you could always place the levers off to the side by expanding your platforms and this is why it’s nice to build your rails all aligned with each other you know it makes it easier to Power them later on so you don’t have to like guess where the powered rails are you know but we’re just going to go ahead and place levers and turn them on to power all of our powered rails except for the one that the minecart is sitting On we don’t want to power that one and I always fall off of this Farm you know even in creative mode I fall off uh but once you get all of your rails powered it’s now just time to test the minecart and again we don’t want the powered rail Underneath the minecart to have any power we just want it to have a mine cart on top so that the mine cart doesn’t go forever but when you’re ready to test it just place a temporary button or a lever on top of this block and Flick it h just to make sure that the mine cart goes the entire way and comes all the way back if it doesn’t you can always just add powered rails now we need to build the Redstone that activates the mine cart so we’re going to place a redstone torch underneath the Block next to the minecart but we don’t want it to be on forever it’s never a good idea to leave your mine carts running so we’re going to place a second torch with a redstone dust going into the first torch to keep it off now we’re going to place a comparator going into The block with the second torch on it and then a repeater on maximum delay diagonally from that comparator then four Redstone Dust to tie it all together and then we’re going to skip one block and place a solid block one block away from the Redstone Dust with a Comparator going into that block and then skip two blocks and place a comparator going the other way going into another solid block then we’re going to place a temporary block in the middle of these so that we can place a hopper facing that temporary block and then another Hopper facing back into That one so that these Hoppers are going into each other like so then we’re going to place a block of redstone on top of one of the Hoppers it doesn’t matter which one and then inside the hopper with a redstone block on it we’re going to place five stacks of any item you Know five stacks of seeds five stacks of sticks you know any junk item that you don’t want and then we’re going to place a regular piston on top of each comparator facing the Redstone Block like so you’ll have to crouch to be able to place a block on top of the Comparator and then two pieces of redstone dust on top of these two solid blocks next to the Pistons and that’s basically it now we just go to the other side and we’re going to place two solid blocks one next to the hopper closest to the Redstone torches and then one next To the comparator next to that with two redstone dust on top of these two blocks then we’re going to place a repeat heater coming out of that block like so and then another piece of redstone dust to connect it to the first Redstone section and that’s it now you have a 5-minute timer that will activate every 5 minutes actually a little bit less than 5 minutes but then it will tell the minecart to start moving you know items despawn every 5 minutes so if you have a 5 minute timer it will minimize the lag output from having a minecart active While guaranteeing that you always pick up the items and never lose any but next up we’re going to place magma blocks on top of every block that has a rail on it you know you can always crouch on the magma blocks to not take damage in survival you know crouching on the magma Blocks will negate the damage output that they provide and once you place your magma on top of every single rail now it’s time to build the walls so that you can flood the platform so we’re going to start building walls diagonally up from the magma blocks and you can use Any blocks that you want to I like using glass so that I can see these squids spawning you know it’s always nice to be able to see the items and see the the squids to make sure that there are no problems but these can be any blocks That you want them to be you know you can use wood or you can use Cobblestone or stone or you know anything that you want I just like using glass again so that I can see what’s going on inside of the farm they do need to be full blocks Though you know no walls no pains nothing like that you know just any full block that you want and then once you get the first layer done now go through and place water buckets along two of the sides and once you’ve turned two sides into water source blocks it should fill In the entire platform like so and then we’re just going to repeat this process going up by one and placing water buckets to make it as tall as you would like basically the taller you make this the higher the rates will be you know within reason you know if you make this Like 200 blocks tall it won’t actually increase the rates you know just because mobs will only spawn up to 44 blocks away from you you know so if part of the farm is more than 44 blocks away from you it won’t be active anyway I usually Make mine about 6 to 10 blocks tall you know maybe a little bit more if if I’m feeling industrious or bored you know but you could always start off with like a three block tall farm and then just expand later as you feel like it you Know once this Farm is built it’s way easier to expand up than it is horizontally so if you just need more ink just build more layers and like I mentioned before the water blocks need access to the sky you cannot have any block Above This Farm or the squids will Not spawn but then also we need to go out by at least 22 blocks so mobs will spawn between 22 and 44 blocks away from the player so if you count out 22 blocks from your magma platform then that will be the ideal area for you to be hanging Out so after counting out 22 blocks you can either build an AFK room you know that you can just hang out and be safe from Phantoms you know or you could just build a whole platform at this level you know and start building trees and just Have a little fun craft area you know honestly this is I usually build bolt you know I usually build a little room so it’s like if I want some ink I can just run up here hide in the AFK room and call it good you know or you know if I want to actually do something while I’m playing you know if I if I want ink but don’t want to AFK I’ll build a little platform you know maybe a mob farm you know maybe some trees or some Farms you know just whatever you know just something to do while I’m waiting On ink to spawn you know luckily this Farm produces quite a bit I mean this is a very very teeny tiny version I usually make mine about 16 to 32 blocks you know but this one’s only like 12 or something like that you know it’s pretty tiny you Know but even it even it being tiny it produces a ton of ink but again you want to be 22 blocks away from the frontmost wall and within 44 blocks of the backmost wall you know for the maximum rates you know as long as you’re kind of Within this area it will produce and to be honest I usually don’t worry about it too much you know I just build it somewhere nearby where I’m going to be hanging out at you know rarely do I actually count out the blocks of where I need to be because honestly this Produces a ton of ink I mean again this is a teeny teeny tiny version and just in the first 5 minutes of me building it and recording we got like a full stack of ink I mean you know you can’t beat that 5 minutes full stack you know Pretty easy peasy and now let’s talk a little bit about River Farms so Rivers produce less squids in general than the ocean versions do so I feel like the main reasons for using a river is that you either can’t find the ocean or that your base is close by you know and if Your base is close by you might not want a sky Farm above your River you know maybe you just want some in while you’re hanging out at your base and you have a river close by so you figure why not now all of this is totally doable most Tutorials will tell you you have to drain the entire River and I’m here to tell you that is not the case I mean you could always build a sky Farm above the river you know that would totally work but again this probably isn’t what you want to do unless you just can’t find The ocean you know if you just can’t find the ocean then totally go ahead and build a sky farm for your squid Farm up at y level 110 it’s also a good idea to check your your seed in chunkbase you know if you go to chunkbase.com and go To the biome finder type in the seed of your world and your your coordinates for your location you can actually see which parts of which chunks are rivers you know sometimes in Minecraft there is water but it’s not actually a river biome now I will say that Minecraft’s Terrain generation has gotten a lot better over the years now it seems more like water equals River but I remember back in the day water definitely did not equal a river so it’s always nice just to double check using chunk base but once you’ve made sure that you have a River you know or if you just see squid spawning that’s also a pretty good sign you could always build your farm just down here you know I mean it would still produce you know granted it wouldn’t produce the most because if there were squids in the river that would reduce Your rates by a lot but if you just need a little bit of ink you know while you’re hanging out at your base that would totally work now you could take the time to drain the whole river after you build the farm you know that would actually provide the most rates you know But you know if you’re not looking for Max maximum rates you’re just looking for opportunistic another thing you could do is fill in the rest of the river you know if you just not not not not like the whole thing but squids won’t spawn if there’s a block over Their head or over the water that they’re trying to spawn in so you could just cover up all of the river that isn’t your squid farm with stone or dirt or something else you know that would also improve the rates you wouldn’t have to take the time to drain it you know so Really it’s it’s up to you whether you want to build it way up in the sky or whether you just want to cover up the river or whether you want to drain it you know or whether you just want to build the farm on top of the river and Call it good I mean it’ll still produce just not as much you know personally I usually just build the farm you know within spawning distance of my base on top of the river and then if it’s not producing I’ll start tweaking things you know I’ll build like a bridge or I’ll Drain part of the river you know kind of thing I don’t really like worry about it you know even if I get just a little bit of ink if I’m at my base I’m at my base a lot you know so even just a little bit At adds up over time so really it’s just all up to what you’re looking to get out of it again Rivers will spawn less than oceans anyway so if you want the highest rates you can possibly get go to an ocean and build a Sky f far but that’s All we got for this video
