Hello everyone my name is Pixar IFS and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide I hope you guys are having a great day today we’re starting off the episode in the village we encountered last time because I think this place is worth preserving so I think today’s episode We’re probably going to focus on how to defend a village from outside and that’s gonna require a few different things for example we will need a lot of torches in order to light this place up and make sure that no zombies spawn within the perimeter of the village the other thing We’re going to need to do is erect some kind of perimeter wall either a fence or some kind of barrier that is going to take care of anything that might come from outside the area where we have placed torches so this is gonna be kind of a lesson in mob proofing an area Making sure that no hostile mobs will spawn within a given area whilst also having a bit of interaction with these villagers because I’m quite keen on trading some of the paper we’ve been able to acquire through our sugar cane farming idea with this librarian here The one who’s got a trade of 24 paper for one emerald not only do I want to expand the amount of traits this guy has available but I feel like he is our gateway to acquiring a lot of emeralds nice and early that we can trade with other villagers for other things I’m Thinking specifically about something somebody pointed out in the comments of the last episode which is that we started out saying we were going to look for ender pearls and then I had to sleep the night so I couldn’t encounter any Enderman but cleric villagers further on down the line into their trades actually Allow you to buy ender pearls for a certain amount of emeralds so we’re gonna have to unlock a few trades with this cleric we may need to acquire a bit of rotten flesh or trade away some of our valuable gold but the chances are that we might be able to acquire ender Pearls that way without having to actually fight any Enderman at all but I think the first thing we need to do here is to create a nether portal right close by this village so that we can come here very easily through our nether hub that’s going to allow us to return to The village whenever we like make sure that the villagers are all still okay and potentially give us a way of transporting these villagers to another location if for example we find some of them so convenient that we want them right on the doorstep of our base it is actually possible To move animals and villages and even hostile mobs actually through the nether as we’ve seen in previous episodes where a Carol followed me through the nether portal with no ill effects so I’m gonna head back to the base so I’m gonna have to go overland because I don’t have any All actually thinking of it we could potentially even grab some obsidian from over here that is not an approach I’d considered because I didn’t realize there was a lava lake quite this close by but you know what we may as well use this thing as we’re here instead of Running all the way back to the base and getting some of the obsidian we’ve already got I think here will be a good place for the portal and as it happens I do have my flint and steel on me that’s something I’d forgotten to put away when We made our trip out here in the first place so that is a enormous stroke of luck actually it’s not something I intended to do at all but right here we can make a new nether portal we will pop in here to take the coordinates really Fast but then I’m gonna hop out before we actually take our trip through to the nether because I want to make sure that I can match the coordinates of a portal on the nether side and I think at this point we might be a little too far out For it to link up to one of the existing portals in our nether hub so let’s take a trip back over land to the base anyway grab some obsidian to make the nether side portal and then we’ll do our maths with the coordinates and hop back Through on this side here we are back at the house I’ve got myself the obsidian we need and I might actually bring the rotten flesh that we’ve acquired from fighting zombies this whole time because that will be something we can trade with the cleric in order to unlock some more Trades in fact I might even bring some more gold here because right now I’m not doing anything with this gold we’ve got a couple of golden apples we’ve even got a little bit of gold ore waiting around here there isn’t really a use for this Just yet Gold can be used for a variety of things in future but for now I think we may as well bring a little bit of gold to trade with one of the clerics and maybe we won’t have to spend the entire 10 bars of gold if we can find One that trades for less than that now night is falling outside and you might be worried about the inhabitants of that village which we have left as it were virtually unprotected however the way minecraft works is that there are only certain areas of the world which remain Loaded when a player is not there and where we are right now the spawn chunks of the server the place where the world originally spawns and where you respawn in the event that you die and your bed is broken or anything like that this place it will actually remain loaded Regardless of where you are in the server this is how a lot of the time players have iron farms running on a server constantly even if a player is not nearby is to build something in the spawn chunks of a server interestingly this came up in a previous episode that Still doesn’t apply if you go to the nether or certain things do still apply but things like furnaces for example will not stay smelting stuff they will not continue smelting stuff while you’re in the nether so it only works for certain processes some things like iron farms I think will keep going but Furnaces and other things will switch off if something is burning I think if there’s a fire raging in the spawn chunks it will not continue when you’re in the nether having said that the village that is quite some distance away it’s over 800 blocks away in each Direction is outside of the radius of the spawn chunks I forget exactly what the radius of the spawn chunks is but we will probably look that up for a future episode when that information is pertinent but what it means right now is that it can be night here but because The area whether we found the village is not currently loaded there isn’t a player there loading it within the render distance of their Minecraft game then it’s not going to be necessary for them to be protected because nothing will spawn over there in fact nothing no hostile monsters will spawn if they’re Outside the range of 128 blocks of a player anyway so for the most part they will be fine but even if they weren’t a lot of the stuff over there would stop moving the village itself is not actually loaded right now so basically anything that’s happening over there Will not actually happen if you see what I mean late not nothing nothing is is going to affect the village while we are away from it and if we sleep through the night here we will have plenty of time to work with them during the day and I’ll continue to take my bed with me so that’s something I thought I would explain just to make sure you guys don’t worry too much about the fact that I’ve left that village completely undefended for now we will be back and we will bring a lot of supplies with us alright Folks I’ve done the maths and the best coordinates for our portal are going to be at positive 97 and negative 100 so let’s take a quick look at where that would be in relation to the nether hub so positive 97 is going to be that way And then negative 107 is going to be this way so we’re actually looking at going quite a different direction to the directions we have been before we have to cross a pretty large ravine in order to do so but I think we might be able to Attach it to this section of the portals here that this is the one that leads to the swamp remember so if we go out in this direction we should be able to make our way towards those coordinates there’s a ghast floating around out there that hasn’t seen me yet so I’m Gonna dig into this wall now remember we’ve got to be very very careful here because there could potentially be pockets of lava in the walls of netherrack here so I’m keeping some blocks on my hotbar just in case that happens but of course with our efficiency pickaxe we are tearing Through this nether act very very quickly okay we’re getting to 78 79 our target is ninety seven on the x coordinate so we should not be too far away now and then we’re gonna go that way the main reason I’m digging through this instead of going over ground is Because there is a large lava lake over in this direction and it can’t we can’t really go any further without bridging out and I haven’t brought any materials that are good for bridging with me so here we go we’ll try and go towards negative Z so in this direction this way And hopefully we should come out in an area where we can build a nether portal in roughly the right coordinates well there we go okay there’s one better but I blocked that off nice and quickly and yeah let’s see if we can get a little bit closer there before we camp this off For real one of the things you can do if you’re at all concerned about the speed that you can place a block is switch a block into your offhand so you’re no longer holding a shield but then you just need to left-click and very click quickly right click and you can just pop What you have we even got that block of nether activate back do you see that you can you can actually pop the block in very very quickly by placing it from your offhand this only works in the Java edition as well sorry again bedrock players but the full kind of range of Things you can do with the offhand isn’t available in bedrock edition mainly because of the problems with like mobile interfaces for sort of tap based controls it is not the best way of doing things so anyway here we are we’ve reached a 97 and negative 107 these will be the Coordinates over the portal to our village and luckily this is nice and sheltered in this netherrack tunnel here you might be wondering why I have brought some more obsidian with me than we actually need for the portal we’ve got 12 obsidian left in fact if we made A full portal here we would end up with 8 obsidian left which is going to be perfect for what I wanted the ender pearls for in the first place so hopefully we’ll get to that in this episode we’ll go through the portal now see if we get to the village and then I’ll be able to tell you what the deal is there we go we made it fantastic stuff so this is going to be the village portal at location it’s a little bit way outside of the the outskirts of the village just so we can have a a spot a Little bit further away so the villagers don’t end up going through the portal by mistake and for that end actually I will probably quickly whip up a crafting table and make a couple of fence gates now these are actually very useful for keeping stuff out of portals they’re a Nice easy to craft block that you can make because a lot of the time you want portals to be easily accessed to by the player but you want to avoid anything wandering in when you don’t want them to so let’s very quickly grab a couple of Fence gate table only need four and we just need to hold shift and place them in front of the portal like so and that will mean that not even animals and so forth can get in here because the gate will need to be open for you to be able To get into the portal you can’t get in from the side this pig who is ie building the portal here will not be able to take a look all you need to do is hop into the portal right click on the gate to close it and then you’ll be Able to go through simple as that right so that is the way I’ve been kind of mob proofing my portals that you might find a more elegant solution for that in future but that’s just something I like to do to make sure that nothing is going to get through and especially with the Villages because villagers tend to wander around a lot and if you don’t you don’t want them falling into lava in the nether or anything like that because they are they are quite precious when you’ve got some good trades the last thing you want is one of these villages wandering off and accidentally dying Right so here we go we’ve got some clerics that we can trade with I have brought some of the rotten flesh and 36 is the lowest possible rotten flesh trade so it will be probably worth checking this cleric out to see if they have any useful trades what have you got For us sir let’s see oh we’ve got an emerald for 4 redstone that’s actually pretty good an emerald for 2 lapis lazuli even better grab some of that and each time you use a new trade it will unlock another set of trades until all of the trades for this particular villager have been Unlocked so we could trade one emerald for one glowstone that is not the best but it’s still kind of good and if we’ve got six emeralds for an ender pearl that’s going to be slightly more than I can manage right now but you know what will trade you 10 gold ingots I feel Like in fact maybe we’ll shop around a little bit and see if this one okay this one’s also got a ten ingot rate does anybody in this village not have a ten ingot trade I don’t feel like spending all of my gold on you guys just yet We’ll see but yeah there are certainly alternatives to spending all of your gold is this the shepherd that we met yeah that’s the shepherd so I do have some white wall back at my base I could potentially trade that with them I could also go and grab a ton of sugarcane to Trade with our friend at the librarian down here because we can turn the sugar cane into paper and get a nice easy paper trade that is one thing life forgot to bring with me on the way back through here who’s the the paper for trading but yeah I think maybe we will Do that before we go I am just going to drop a quick chest down here so we can put some of the extra materials in here we’ll put the obsidian in there for now and I brought a lot of oak logs with me because we can make a perimeter fence For this village to make sure that nothing is going to get in from our side but before we do that let’s hop back through the portal let’s go back to base and grab a few more trading supplies on our way through here I’ve encountered a magma cube and you can already see the Looting effect coming into play here we’ve got ourselves three magma cream from a single magma cube which is about the best you can do a lot of the times so it’s good to have that that means plenty more potions of fire resistance I also noticed in the distance there was An Enderman standing around here he seems to have teleported away for now but I’m not sure if he’s still going to potentially be in range if I can find him then I will because grabbing an and ender pearl from an Enderman would be kind of ideal right now normally they Have those telltale purple particles around them but the nether portal has those as well so I’m getting slightly distracted by the fact that that is there nope it looks like we might have missed out on that Enderman he may have just D spawned from being a fair Distance away from us no worries we’ll keep an eye out and we’ll stick to plan a of trading with the villagers so as you can see our automatic sugarcane farm has been producing a small sugar cane a nice modest amount of sugar cane we do want to expand this in future Especially now we have access to villager trading I think it’s going to be very useful for us to get a decent supply of emeralds and a sugar cane farm is going to be a nice easy way of doing that so we’ll grab all of the manually farm sugarcane from over here I’ve Already got a lot in my inventory from the supplies I’ve gathered off-camera as well so we will have plenty to go on here and this should present a huge amount of paper and I can show you what happens when you do a lot of villager trading because this is a mechanic it is Worth exploring in these early stages so here we are back again with a relatively full inventory of sugarcane I’m going to turn all of this into paper because there is currently no use saving it all as sugarcane maybe for decorative purposes later we might want a lot of it But in the meantime I think this will absolutely be better off as paper now let’s go and find that librarian who we put in the hole earlier and thankfully we actually have a little trading window through which we can right-click on him and we can still trade with the guy he Doesn’t seem to mind that we put him in a hole so let’s trade with this librarian until we have as many emeralds as we can possibly get and it’s simply a matter of putting the item in this slot here and then shift-clicking until all of that paper has been traded away now You’ll notice that the X appears over the arrows here which means that you cannot continue trading any further even if you put the right items in the slot he will not give you an emerald for it and I’ll make it kind of grumpy noise and that is because the trade locks up And you need to trade something else however once we leave the trading interface you’ll notice through the little gap down there that he’s got some purple particles going around yet there we go who saw a couple of them there he also probably had the green Trading Refresh particles and when you go back There you’ll find that the paper trade it has been unlocked again along with some of the other trades available to us from this librarian the thing to remember is that when you trade a few times with a villager then that trade is going to lock up and you might have to Trade something else the first time you do a trade this is the first time we’ve traded paper to this librarian it will unlock again because it unlocks the future trades and now I’ve traded with him a couple more times you’ll find that we have even more stuff we can Potentially buy from him he’s now selling a clock for a Emeralds we can get to written books will get us an emerald we can buy bookshelves from him for three emeralds that’s actually not a bad deal that’s actually pretty good so there are a few different things this librarian Unlocks he has only got one enchanted book here so far but there are two more enchanted books waiting for us at the end of these unlocked trades so I’m gonna go through here probably trade a little bit more paper because each time he refreshes his trades we end up with More opportunity to trade away some of this paper and we’re getting more and more emeralds as we go so this is actually a really great opportunity to get emeralds we also get experience from villager trading so that’s pretty good now this time you’ll notice I want to be Back out of the trading interface and re-enter it we haven’t been able to trade enough paper that he is unlocked this paper trade it sometimes works that way if you end up trading a certain amount locking a trade and if it’s not the first time you’ve traded there is a Chance that it will unlock certain things but it doesn’t necessarily it doesn’t guarantee to unlock it once you leave the trading interface and come back so at that point you will need to trade for other things luckily for us right now we can trade for all manner of Stuff here that will be quite useful to us like having a renewable source of glass just by trading emeralds for him that’s quite good considering the amount of sand you would have to mine otherwise likewise it is really nice to be able to buy bookshelves from these guys so I’m Going to buy one bookshelf off of him you notice I don’t have to completely max out this trade I don’t have to lock this trade up for him to refresh because it’s the first time we’ve traded it you’ll notice the particles start to appear in a second yep there we go we’ve Got those particles let’s go back in here and now we will be able to see potentially what he has to trade book wise aqua affinity for a helmet that sounds like a good deal to me it will definitely be taking him up on that shortly now let’s see what the next book Trade is going to be by buying some glass off of him once again that will unlock the trades and it might actually be worth trading as much paper as possible to him before we unlock the trades using these smaller trades here and there because that way we can sell As much paper to him as possible get as many emeralds as we possibly can looks like that’s not going to be a problem here looks like he’s keeping that trade open for us for a good long time and now we’ve only got 60 paper left so that’s only probably two more Trades with this librarian before he completely maxes out and it looks like yep we we’ve unlocked him again just by trading a little bit more paper fantastic so we’ve got 30 emeralds to work with now which is more than enough for what we want and we should now be Able to see what this book is protection 1 okay now it’s not the best trade ever but then again it’s also not the worst because if you imagine buying four of these books and then combining them in an anvil a few times so that you can bind a protection one on the protection One book to get protection to do that twice you’ve got a protection three book and that might actually be able to go on our diamond helmet there so that’s not too bad we both we’ve got two book trades in here that would be perfect for our diamond helmet we’ve got aqua Affinity which helps us mind blocks underwater and we’ve got a protection book that we can easily kind of upgrade into protection three the last thing a librarian will sell is twenty two emeralds for a nametag which is actually a really great way of getting nametags if you don’t like the fishing minigame In Minecraft and you haven’t had great luck finding them in Dungeon chests that’s another means of getting those now let’s step away from the librarian for a bit and go and find that villager who was selling us ender pearls where’s the priests I’ll try and find the priests that I’ve already unlocked and It’s going to take a little bit of exploring because the villagers do like to wander around was it you sir let’s see yes you are the one we’ve unlocked fantastic so you will sell us an ender pearl for six emeralds I’ll drop six emeralds in there and we’ve got Ourselves an ender pearl is this off first ender pearl of the series I think it might be because I don’t recall having explained any of the mechanics for ender pearls and the pearls are actually a means of teleportation in this game you can actually use them too You can throw them long distances and when they land you will be teleported to that location in much the same way that you see Enderman teleporting around the map so I’m not gonna do it now because I’ve only got one ender pearl and I want To use this for something else but if I was to throw this you know what let’s do it let’s throw this at the church roof over there and we’ll have to aim a little bit higher than the church roof because it’s a good distance away and These things tend to arc the same way arrows do but let’s try about there okay looks like we’re going to end up on this side of the church very fantastic but you see how that worked that is how you can teleport around in this game and it’s it’s actually very useful however It does occasionally take some some doubt you take some damage depending whether or not you have protection on your armor you can actually take less damage as a result but using an enderpearl always hurts you a little bit if you’re well-fed if you if you’ve got complete hunger then you’ll earn those Hearts back and no problem you should be able to heal yourself up very easily but just be aware that using enderpearls does come with a price and if you use them too much potentially it can be fatal so let’s go back to this villager I think it was this guy unless he Swapped places with this one in the street they’re trying to confuse me you see 36 yep there we go okay you’ve got a another ender pearl for six emeralds let’s buy one more and this time we’re not going to throw it we’re going to use it in a crafting recipe does they they Still have crafting tables in here oh they do fantastic yes we have a crafting table here in the library and the reason I brought blaze powder with me before is because we’re going to make one of these this is an eye of ender you don’t have To make it in a crafting table or anything in fact you can probably make it in here but the reason for the crafting table is actually because this i’v ender is going to be used to make an ender chest this is not the only useful Eyes of ender but it is one that we will use in this case because an ender chest is something I’ve wanted in this world for a little while so let’s go ahead and make that all you need is eight obsidian in a kind of chest shape and an eye of Ender in the center here and you end up with a chest that looks very different from your standard wooden chest you get one of these here and now I’ve placed this the problem with that is I cannot pick it up without a silk touch pickaxe which I do Not have so this ender chest is going to stay right where it is here for now that’s not a problem though because n the chests are a very unique inventory these will actually allow you to store items in which can be collected at any other ender chest in the world I’m gonna Go to sleep here because it’s getting dark and I haven’t been able to protect this village yet so the end of Chester have a shared inventory so any other end of chests you access in the world will contain the same items that you put in To any on the other end of chests in the world for example if I put these 18 emeralds in a chest here if I go away and have another ender chest at another location I will be able to pick out those same 18 emeralds from a different Ender chest so now we can leave this ender chest here at the village we can easily go back to our base create another ender chest there and access the same inventory from both sides and effectively you can use this to transport items over large distances as long as those items will Fit in the inventory of a small chest there are no double size ender chests by the way you can only get a single size and a chest but that becomes a very very useful mechanic it even works across dimensions so an enderchest placed in the nether will actually have the same Inventory as one placed in the overworld allowing you to transport items without fear of falling in lava or anything like that anyway now we’ve covered ender chests in short detail and I will probably buy another ender pearl and create another ender chest out of that at some point soon I’m actually going to Turn a lot of these logs and so forth appear into planks and then into sticks and then into fences because we’re going to create a perimeter fence all the way around this village and it’s not going to be a particularly interesting fence at this point so I’m not gonna spend too Much time doing this on camera all we’re going to do is create a nice perimeter wall around here just so we can create a boundary for the village and we might end up making a couple of fence gates just to add into that but for now all we Want to do is wall this off so it a little bit mob proof so that monsters cannot get into this village from outside one thing to note while you’re doing this is that when fences attach to the side of a block like this it is possible to walk up onto this half block Extra that fences have and from there you can walk over the top of them it because it’s only a single block height difference so you may want to do a couple of things to make sure your fences connect all the way around the outside without allowing opportunities For mobs to simply walk over them like that one of the one of those is by removing any blocks that attach to fences from the side like so because at that point you cannot jump over that it is not possible for you to get over and mobs don’t jump like that they don’t Exactly sprint jump over fences like so and slimes are the only mobs capable of doing that and let’s be real here the only thing we are defending these villagers from is zombies because other types of mobs creepers skeletons and so forth will not go after villages at all Is only the zombies we’re protecting against the other thing you can do is build your fences a little taller so for example here we have a space that the mobs could walk up onto this block and they could potentially kind of swipe at the villagers over here but the Villagers will run away from them so that’s not too bad and having this fence here prevents them from walking out onto this row of fences here so building a slightly taller perimeter fence will allow you to mob proof the area a little easier we’re going to do the same thing over here and Then just bring this fence around like so And I got most of the way around the village and I ran out of fences luckily there is a lot of oak wood around here so we should be able to finish this off you’ll also find fences around the top of these village buildings so you could Potentially take those down if you want to I have left a little bit of room for expansion here as well because we might want to actually add to the range of houses this village has in future but for now I think we will continue our perimeter fence I’ll just get the rest Of this done off camera so we can harvest a little bit of oak wood from over here connect this fence up and then we should be good to go and with the last few fences going into place I think we have a solid perimeter fence here now And it’s gonna be possible for us as a player to hop in and out of gaps like this pretty easily we can even run along the perimeter of the fence to make sure there are no easy spots for mobs to get through but I think for the most part This is actually pretty secure it even incorporates some of the backyard fences of these houses which i think is quite a neat touch now it’s just as it’s necessary to mob proof some of these areas so that the monsters can’t get in and get the villagers it is also equally Important to village a proof these as so that they can’t necessarily get out as well because the last thing we want is a villager with an important trade wandering out into open countryside because there is a block on the site here that they can just hop over so That’s something else to bear in mind but I think this whole perimeter fence is quite secure the next task is to light the entire place up with torches and there are already a few lamps in villages providing torchlight like so but that is miniscule compared to the Area of the village and that the torches are quite high up so they won’t have the maximum effect for the full effect it is better to place torches lower down to the ground that way and when mobs decide whether or not they’re going to spawn on these lower areas then that’s it’s Harder for them to do because they have a light source right there now if we take a quick look by the way I know some of you are probably writing comments already mobs can’t spawn on these graphs pathways either so you need to worry less about lighting these up And more about lighting up solid blocks like grass or cobblestone or any of the wood around this this village that happens to kind of be exposed to the open air so let’s take a look at the light level indicator which is actually there on the left-hand side of your Debug information underneath biome this will tell you how much light a certain block is receiving either from the sky during the day or from blocks nearby the produce light for example torches or redstone lamps or sea lanterns once you get hold of those the important thing to Remember is that block light is what counts you’ll notice it dips to zero when we’re walking around on these grass pathways because they don’t count as full blocks and nothing is going to spawn on them once we step out onto the grass here you’ll notice that it dips to Four block which is the block light nearby dips down to four that is a problem when it comes to mob spawns because skylight as you might expect only happens during the day that is talking about sunlight the amount of lights that is present during a day and The block light is the thing that will keep stuff lit up during the night so it’s important for us to go around the entirety of this village and place down torches so that the block light never gets down as far as seven because that is the value at which monsters will Start to spawn in and this is quite a tedious task so I expect it will take a fair amount of time here I’m not gonna do the entirety of it in this video but this is at least a representative sample of exactly how much time you need to put Into preparing one of these villages for zombie attack it’s going to be very very worthwhile in the long term to have this village a little bit better defended and a little bit better mob proofed and this can also apply to areas that you want to build in for your base as well for Example if you have a large area of a Plains biome that you want to build in it is going to be very very useful to have a grid of torches set up many points throughout this this Plains biome or wherever it is you happen to be building so that monsters will not spawn So that you have a nice easy time during the night time so you can continue building without having to worry about getting attacked by mobs so I’m gonna run around this village basically off-camera I’m gonna do the entirety of this between episodes and make sure everything is well lit up and that no Zombies are going to be able to spawn in here and eat my villages you can even place the torches on the perimeter fence as well to make sure that nothing spawns a little bit further away but that is gonna be it for this episode I hope you guys have enjoyed a little bit Of a closer look at villager trading and how to mob proof a village against zombie attacks my name is Ben Pixar if so don’t forget to leave a like if you enjoyed the episode subscribe if you want to see more and I’ll see you guys soon take care bye for now You Video Information
