When I was just 11 years old I found myself continuously hooked by amp Venom videos watching one after another one day scrolling through his content I discovered his series on the aether mod with just a simple 4×6 rectangle of Glowstone and a bucket of water he was suddenly transported to a strange yet Heavenly place it was unlike anything I had ever seen before floating islands of pastel colored trees and creatures made up of clouds this was the birth of my obsession with floating islands since then I have always been intrigued by the concept of a world made up of Flo land What would be living in such a place like this what would it be like to live here how would people survive would the islands move or would they stay still what would happen as people ran out of space to grow these were just some of the questions that I had I wanted to Make this video about both my personal artistic love for floating islands which is certainly fueled by nostalgia in some way as well as just a bit about the history of such worlds in Minecraft The First Time Minecraft ever got introduced to the concept of floating islands was In Minecraft inp indiv is kind of a weird version of Minecraft but you can tell it was a stepping stone from what Minecraft was in the classic days to what it is today basic crafting was introduced diamonds were add to the game and among other little things however Inev was limited by its small world sizes worlds were not yet infinite at this time in development however with smaller worlds came World types today we just have normal super flat and Amplified worlds in Minecraft in-depth there were more interesting and unique World types such as Paradise hell or of Course floating from there you can pick the shape of your world you got have it a square World a long world or a deep one when I first discovered this version of Minecraft specifically the capabilities of floating islands I immediately wanted to play it so badly It was one of my first experiences on Minecraft and it remains extremely challenging you couldn’t sneak in this version of Minecraft so bridging out to the other Islands was very risky and if you were unlucky enough you might have spawned on an island made of just sand Or gravel so placing in a block below you would make you fall to your death overall this may have been a fairly limited idea of what a sky high dimension could be in Minecraft but you can tell the pieces were there it just needed a little more work the floating Islands were not just a one-off concept during Minecraft’s beta Notch Had did he wanted to work in a Sky Dimension as an opposite to the nether the basic concept was that when players slept there was a small chance they could be teleported to this new dimension from there they were Challenged to figure out how to go back and forth between this Dimension more efficiently there were some screenshots of this Dimension online that Notch had posted and you can access this Dimension through the beta by altering some of the code but it was never fully implemented Into the game and so as beta went on the Sky Dimension eventually became the foundation for what we know as the end Dimension which is in my opinion a pretty lackluster attempt at a floating island Dimension but a pretty good attempt at being the end of the game so It suits its role well enough of course the end would later get an update in release 1.9 and while that update certainly changed the end it’s been almost 8 years since that and we haven’t seen any changes since if you’d like to hear my thoughts about a possible end Update you can click the card in the corner of this video uh to watch it after this one as I mentioned earlier sadly Minecraft would never see an official Sky Dimension added to the game the closest we’ve had is data packs and then the old Buffet World Generation type where you Could have a single biome of the Overworld generated like end Islands while data packs address this lack of content and allow for a multiple biome generation simply slapping biomes onto the end islands is not the best way to set up floating island worlds there’s little diversity in shape as well as a Massive lack of verticality because of this I’ve always felt that the buffet World Generation never quite lived up to its full potential what it could have been as of 1.20 there is no way to reasonably generate a floating island world without the assistance of data packs or mods additionally I think it’s Unlikely that we’ll ever see a floating island dimension in Minecraft but do we even need one I assume some seasoned players may know where I’m going with this there is a mod that translated floating islands into the game so well that I am unsure if Mojang could ever Live up to what it accomplished I’m of course talking about the aether mod the aether mod was released July 22nd 2011 which is actually one year exactly before I started my YouTube channel fun fact this mod was revolutionary in fact to many this is still seen as one of the Best mods to ever exist in Minecraft it was a mod so wellmade that many a naive player myself included had their dreams crushed when they attempted to make their own glowstone portals this mod fits so well into Minecraft it’s easy to see why people fell in love with it the Atmosphere created by this mod was unlike anything we had seen up to that point even by today’s standards there’s something extremely palpable about the world that you are whisked into everything from the color palette to different mobs creates an environment that capitalizes Upon A player’s desire to understand and explore strange alien Lands in addition to new Mobs the ather mod also expanded on Minecraft’s mechanics by adding three new dungeon types bronze silver and gold while also integrating new gear for the player to wear instead of armor that could only go on your head chest legs and feet players Could now wear pendants Rings gloves and more the expansion of Minecraft’s gear allowed for more creativity and Variety in and how players decided to prepare for adventure and I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of how this looks in the UI but it it gets the job done you the Clutter of the armor icons just doesn’t really look great to me but they did a good enough job fitting into Minecraft’s UI that’s true for a lot of this mod actually one of the reasons it became so cemented as one of the best mods was because of how nicely it fit into Minecraft materials followed a similar progression path to those in vanilla Minecraft you get skywood tools you get holy stone tools and so on you gather materials like you do in the overw world but you face unique challenges in the Aether in Worlds that utilize floating terrain you are usually confined to a Rather small piece of land from which a couple issues can arise how do you get materials how do you travel between the islands how can you avoid the danger that comes with mining such as like falling into the void below these are concerns that every player will face Upon entering the aether however there’s no need to fret in particular the Aether offers a variety of solutions to this problem the first solution is a rather obvious one something anyone can do build you can Bridge from one Island to another Island however this is very risky and heavily discouraged by the Zeph zeph I don’t know how to pronounce that word I’m so sorry these are cloud-like mobs that fire snowballs at the player and can knock them off their Bridges these spawn constantly and they’re really really annoying to deal with without a bow since Building Bridges is not the safest option using Something like a cloud parachute is a great way to get from Island to Island when you first spawn in the Aether players are given a golden parachute when they start which is pretty good durability and can be used multiple times unlike the normal white parachutes which are just single use once you use It it’s gone players can use their parachute to hop over to the next Island if they’re just starting on in the world Beyond this players can obtain MOA eggs and raise a MOA of their own to right around the ather moas aren’t the fastest animals on land but this deficit is Offset by their ability to jump extremely high multiple times in midair let’s revisit those three dungeons for just a moment each dungeon is unique within its theme and boss fights the bronze dungeon is comprised of stone hallways and rooms with a boss that takes a form of a large block that you Have to mine to defeat the silver dungeon resembles ancient Greek temples inside you’ll find Valkyries and the valkyrie Queen you fight the valkyrie Queen by first defeating 10 Valkyries and then challenging her by showing her the medals that you got from those Valkyries What Makes a silver dungeon Unique is that you’re not in any danger unless you choose to fight a valkyrie or if you get unlucky and a a chest mimic spawns in which case you have to fight that this enables you to approach the dungeon at your own pace if the Valkyries can one shot or twoot you Perhaps it’s not the best idea to take on the valkyrie Queen yet finally we come to the gold dungeon while the gold dungeon may be short it contains the most difficult boss in the mod the sunp defeating the spirit gives players some of the best items in the game now I’ve Scratched the surface the aether mod has a ton of more content but not to mention the Aether 2 mod which has had its own set of problems during development as well as just a mixed public reception uh when compared to the overwhelming praise that the original Aether Mod gets in my Opinion the Aether is where many players Lov for floating islands began this mod inspired so many people to create their own floating worlds some better better or some worse I would now like to take a moment to get more personal and talk about my own projects and my own love for floating Islands ever since I was a teenager I’ve wanted to create my own floating island world in Minecraft Once Upon a Time on this very Channel I had an old Series where I made little floating island worlds in creative and then I played them on survival and filmed it to like Two of my fans of course things like Sky Block existed but I had envisioned my floating island world as more akin to vanilla Minecraft for years I searched for a way to make floating Island server with my friends eventually one week before I graduated high school I found a Server that already had floating islands as its main gimmick I marveled at the islands as I explore this unfamiliar world called ever sky in addition to the terrain the server had also had its own resource pack which made it feel truly unique everything had this sort of Minecraft Beta feel to it which made me very happy as I’m very nostalgic for that period of time at Minecraft upon joining I was welcomed by a couple players who wasted no time in explaining the mechanics of the world to me the server’s main point of intrigue was its Roleplay mechanic six or so unknown players acted as deities changing the story and progression based on the actions of players I came to understand that I could choose to follow one of six different gods or not if I didn’t feel like it I’m still friends with several People from that server to this day in fact it’s where I met my girlfriend over four years ago while I initially only joined the server to get inspiration I ended up sticking around to The Bitter End during which the server closed with a promise of a massive update an update That never came as it often goes the Creator the server got busy with other things in life recently he gave out the world file to the community allowing us to finally see how our actions on the server had manifested in the world to see the actions that I took personally Have real consequences in this update was endlessly intriguing and inspiring since the closure of that server in late 2019 I’ve been trying to think of ways of implementing these ideas and features that I was inspired by into my own project initially I created a server based off my old Minecraft adventure Maps that I had made it was a 10,000 x 10,000 block world with multiple continents all ranging on their own themes and biodiversities I spent a lot of time on that project I called it the ring because it was originally just meant to take a place on a singular land Mass but it expanded from there and eventually while doing that project I learned how to make floating islands using worldedit this was a GameChanger for me I could finally achieve my goal of making a floating island world so in around March of 2022 I scrapped the ring And I began working on my own server elium miles unfortunately when updating from 1.18 to 1.19 the world file got corrupted causing normal Overworld chunks to generate in my void world I still have this world today uh it’s just my test world now so this kind of set me Back I stopped the project for several months but eventually I picked it back up and I got Multiverse and I started pasting many of the original Islands into this new world and from there I began to construct a 2500x 2500 Block World of floating islands that include 25 different biomes several Dungeons and Its own lore and Unique Mechanics the biggest change uh from vanilla Minecraft to elesium ises which is my server is that food no longer heals you if you lose your health it’s gone players have to buy custom potions to stay alive additionally diamond ore does not exist outside of dungeons villagers trade Emeralds and echos shards are specialized currency which echos shards being the more expensive of the two the economy is built to engage players to loot dungeons where they will face custom moms and custom bosses as well as have the ability to find Echo shards on their own while there is an overarching Story of the server players get to have a direct part in shaping that narrative you might have noticed that this little world of mine can be quite unforgiving in my opinion Minecraft has been far easy for far too long and with my server I want to try to up that difficulty as Much as possible utilizing vanilla game mechanics I’m not 100% mean though and so to counteract this difficulty I’ve installed an RPG plugin that allows players to level up skills beyond what is typical in Minecraft all these mechanics and environments have been carefully planned to create an experience that feels unlike any other Minecraft server if it weren’t for you guys my viewers my little world of alium would have never taken off I don’t want it to be like a huge server just enough for people to reach out and maybe get their own inspiration like I was inspired years ago if anything I Want my art to catalyze a similar level of dedication in others as of today I have three major updates for the server plan each one increasing the world’s size and scope more lower more Islands more biomes more unique places while the initial world is meant to feel a lot Like vanilla Minecraft just kind of ripped up and put into the sky the updates I have planned take things to the next level I have a lot of big things planned regardless floating islands have always just been something that I’ve really loved in Minecraft there’s something about the challenge and the beauty that They represent that I haven’t been able to shake for years I suppose the point of this video is to try to encourage you all to find something that lives in your mind like floating islands do for me and go and create art whatever it is you’re Thinking of making make it art is one of the best forms of human expression if you have an idea of a really cool painting paint it if you have a concept for a video game code it show it off even if you think it’s bad this is how We grow through the process of making my server I become more competent in making terrain and learning coding comparing my Mountains for example uh to the start of development compared to the ones that I’m making now for the first major update of the server shows just how much I’ve progressed these are two vastly different styles of mountains and you can tell that I’ve come up with new techniques for forming terrain the first one looks blocky and unnatural whereas the last one seems to fit the surrounding terrain a little bit more and feels more natural I’ve learned all Of this simply by experimenting trying new things getting out of my comfort zone and expanding my knowledge and I encourage all of you to do that the day you decide to stop learning new information is the day you stop growing as a person and for me something is Seemingly silly as a block game has inspired me to create some of what I feel was my best work and even if nobody saw it or cared I’d still be proud that I made it I want to thank you guys so much for watching this video uh this one means a Lot to me obviously I wanted to take my time time with it really think about it really think about how I want to present it so uh if you guys enjoy this share this with your friends I want to hear your thoughts about this what is like your crazy floating island dream like What would your insane floating island world look like I feel like for a lot of people it’s like oh yeah just basically the Aether that’s pretty much it um but I love seeing people take ideas and go further with it so discuss in the comments your experiences with say the Aether mod or with other things like that and uh if you’re interested in joining my silly little Minecraft server there’s a link in the description below I will tell you now is very difficult it is not an easy server to get into starting off is very hard it’s very Difficult uh but we do have some players who are making tals who are making like a highway system across the islands there’s a lot of rules it’s very different from vanilla Minecraft it’s unlike any other SMP that you’ve ever taken a part in I I I promise it’s not Easy so if you don’t like a difficult challenge if you don’t like to be punished uh for failing at something this may not be the server for you but I feel that uh overcoming difficult challenges is all the more rewarding um and if you like the video um like And Subscribe that would mean the world to me I want to do YouTube as my full-time job and you guys subscribing and liking and sharing these videos really helps me out with that anyway I want to thank you guys so much for watching and I’ll see you guys all on the next video bye-bye Know Video Information
