Good morning everybody my name is waddles I hope you’re doing well today and in this video I will be showing you how to make a relatively server friendly overflow free item sorter this item sorter is pretty easy to build and it is pretty reliable as well now there will Be quite a bit of explanation in this tutorial so I will be leaving timestamps in the description but let’s go ahead and show off this sort of really quick so so here are the items I’m sorting and then a non sorting item and as we can See everything is being picked up by my hoppers in the right area and then the stone block should go all the way into my axis just because I have of course not sorting for the stone but inside of all of these chests are of the right Items so like I said it does work and it’s pretty easy to build you can also expand this and store pretty much however many items you’d like to store and I will talk about how to do that near the end of the video as well again there will be timestamps in the Description and this is relatively server friendly meaning it should work on your server but due to lag differences and things like that that I Creole II can’t account for I can’t 100% guarantee that this will work on your server this sorter is also 1.13 and 1.14 friendly this will work in 1.14 and it should work beyond that however this will not work on the bedrock edition of the game or at least I believe it will not work on the better our condition I have not tested it over there but with all of that out of the Way if you enjoy the video drop a like and consider subscribing and on the end slide after the video will be my tutorial playlist so what do you need to build this sorter well then this Chester all of the items now now you need to Explain this a little bit at the top are the items you will need for your input mechanism you will need one of all of these so one then in the middle are the items you we’ll need per item that you are sorting so let’s say you’re sorting five items Like I was I will need five times all of these numbers that are laid out in the middle so that would mean 5 times 2 which is 10 so 10 hoppers and then here at the bottom are other items that you will need you will need some water Sources probably one but possibly more you will need some items to lock your hoppers you’ll need some building blocks and the locking hopper items and the building blocks can be anything really and then you’ll probably want one extra hopper and maybe a few extra chests as well but this is basically everything That you’ll need just remember you’ll need to do a little math depending on how many items you want to sort so let’s start with our input mechanism this is going to be how we get our items into our sorter so wherever you’re going to start building your farm place a dropper Down we will have our water stream in front of this dropper so plan on that now next to this dropper we need to set up a small little circuit to make sure this dropper fires items as soon as they get into the dropper now to set up this Little circuit we will need blocks placed in a particular order so right next to your dropper you should have blocks placed in a 5 formation like I have here and then behind that 5 you will need one more block and then to there the circuit that you will need to Make this thing work is as follows you need a comparator facing out of your dropper then a redstone dust on that middle block then another redstone dust in the bottom on this corner block there then behind this whole thing we need a repeater and one final dust wrapping Back into that comparator now go ahead and add one tick to your repeater at least you can add more but this one tick is to prevent overflow and then to finish this all off we will need a hopper going into that dropper and a chest somewhere now this is going to be Your input chest so this is what you will see that means if you’d like to make things work a little better you can of course add hoppers and you know have this chest wherever you’d like it at in your base and if you want to test it go Ahead throw an item in and you should see that that item is thrown out and into the void for me so now we just start setting up the actual sorter here to do this I recommend you go at least two or three depending on how you look At it blocks away from the start of your water which again will be right in front of your dropper after moving those two blocks you’re going to need to have some hoppers so go ahead and start with a hopper facing out you don’t want it facing down into a block then below that Hopper you’ll want a hopper facing into your first storage chest it can be a double chest it can be a single chest if you’d like now we need to create our hopper Locker which is actually pretty easy to make to start setting this up we’ll need to place some blocks down of Course start by going three blocks out from your bottom hopper in the middle we’ll go one more block down and then you’ll need another block diagonally down from that to finish this back portion off go ahead and place one more block just like that now of course I’m Assuming you’re not building this and avoid so you may already have blocks in here and you’ll just need to dig things out so now the circuit you need one comparator facing out of that top hopper then we need three redstone dust just like that then we need a repeater facing Forwards into a block that has a torch on the other side of it that is our sorting little circuit here this is the thing that will lock your hopper with items in it so this order actually works we will of course be locking items in a hopper and then when the right item Passes over the hopper they’ll be pulled down into that hopper if that all makes sense so let’s say we want a store I don’t know like three items in total that would mean that you need to just kind of replicate this thing exactly two more times right next To it you don’t need to you know leave any gaps or anything like that just keep replicating this circuit that I’m building here as many times as you really need to but do keep in mind that we will be using water to move items around so we’ll need to leave some gaps In there but we’ll get into that in a minute so now let’s talk about locking your hopper and making sure only say bones go into this first chest go into the top hopper and place four placeholder blocks and then just place a stack of whatever else you’re going to sort you will notice Items start to leave the hopper and that is perfectly normal these items should be filtering down into the chest below but the items are going to stop at 41 that means there will always be 41 of whatever item you are sorting inside of your top hopper which is a thing but if You’re sorting things like mob loot it shouldn’t really be a problem in the grand scheme of things because if you’re using an auto sorter you probably are going to sort a lot of items now there will also be one more item in your lower hopper and that is completely normal the Axis should have been filtered down into your lower chest so you’re going to need to repeat this process with each and every item so let’s say next I would want to do zombie flesh or something you can see over here I went and did the same thing and then I have slime balls And then I have string and then finally spider I in here so just gotta keep doing that now you do not need to name these items in here these are just cobblestone slabs and these items could be anything I’m using cobblestone slabs because usually in survival I have a Whole lot of extra slabs but you really could use planks you could use anything that isn’t an item in this sorting process so if I use slime balls here my my sorters not going to work so let’s say this is all I am going to want to Sort finally we’re gonna want to put a nexus just on here just in case things do go over here and don’t get picked up and then of course we’ll need to block this in so we can put our water in here and the water of course doesn’t go and Spill and ruin all of our circuits now I’m doing this with glass but you really could do it with anything now one final essential block is right in front of this hopper basically right above where the dropper will shoot the items we don’t want our items to be shot out and Then you know bounce around or anything like that so just put a block right above there and then you’re good to go that’s all you would need to do so let’s say you want to expand this thing you’re trying to sort more than five or so items or even less that’s actually Pretty easy to do as you probably know water only flows eight blocks so we’ll have to add in some kind of water Extension to do that I recommend you place a block of ice at the end of wherever the water is and you know don’t Have a sorter right there and then put a slab right above it and then after the slab you can place another water source and it will go out so your sorter would look something like this we have our first items and then we have this gap You know to keep items moving along and then we have even more over there so items will still be thrown out of your dropper and then shot down and if they aren’t any of these first five items they will you know keep sliding along the ice will speed the item up a Little bit and keep moving it down your waterline now you could also easily implement turns in your sorting system using the slab water method I know this is starting to get a little confusing looking but let’s say we wanted our sorter to turn back you can place a slab and then a water Source on the other side of that slab just like I did before and your items will fly through and then turn this means you could really make an infinite loop of items moving around this system if you wanted to make a perfect square or a rectangle or anything like that That would totally work if you do want to expand this thing downwards meaning you want like five chests four bones that’s very very easy to do go ahead and grab more chests of course and more hoppers and just go downwards that’s all you need to do now items will fill from The bottom up so that means if you do this the bottom chest is going to fill and then the next one and then finally that top one and so again like I mentioned in the beginning this should be server friendly but it’s kind of hard to say honestly because server lag right I can’t really account for how much or how little server lag you will be having but it is safe to say that this works on the danger craft server pretty reliably now unfortunately this won’t be able to sort non stackable items such as armor or bows or things like that but for all Of your stackable item needs this should be pretty good again just place that excess chest at the end of the system just to be sure all of your items are picked up and I think that’s actually the whole tutorial if you’re still here at this point I don’t think there’s really Anything else I need to say in this video if you do have any extra questions go ahead and throw them down below or send me a direct message on discord and I will get back to you and I will try to help you on the n slide will be my Tutorial playlist if this video helped you out or if you enjoyed it please leave a like and consider subscribing because that stuff This video is a tutorial for a simple 1.14 compatable Minecraft Item Sorter. The design is expandable and should work fairly well on most servers. This sorter method will sort all stackable items. This design & tutorial is for Minecraft Java edition. I can not claim original concept on this design as this has been around since hoppers & comparators.
timestamps items needed – 1:52 input system – 2:58 item sorter – 4:28 adding more – 6:02 hopper locking – 6:28 finishing – 8:01 expansion – 8:38 other things – 10:23
