Hello everyone my name is pixel riffs and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide I hope you guys are having a good day today we’re starting off the episode outside of the villager trading hall I established yesterday and this is looking a little bit more like a Hole now I’ve actually put in the kind of draped flag sort of a standard of this area I have kind of modeled after the one that we had on top of the cactus farm and as you can see I have continued the pattern that we established last Time we have a whole bunch more villages now nestled into these walls ready to be traded with it’s sort of like a kind of open trading forum if you like and what I’ve been doing in fact I haven’t quite finished this yet because I want to add Another layer up there and there are still tons of villages in the breeder but what I’ve been doing so far is going around to each villager and finding out what their best trade is kind of doing this as systematically as I possibly can with the resources I’ve got so each time I go up to them I can take a note of what their trades are that will get me emeralds and what the other traits they can give me for other items are so for now I’ve decided that this guy’s best trade is going to be this 37 rotten Flesh trade because I haven’t unlocked any more so what I’ve done is I’ve taken an anvil renamed that rotten flesh 37 and then I can easily see how much emeralds he’s willing to trade for when it comes to the rotten flesh trait now obviously if he ends up giving me a Really good trade for something else further down the line I might I might swap that item frame out but for now it’s great to see at a glance what this guy has to offer in terms of rotten flesh and you can see all the way around Here what the best trades are now when people have some really good traits full stuff like melons a little bit further down the line I put a melon in the frame instead of any of the other crops that that farmer might have so every time I Look around here I’m going to be able to see the best trait likewise this guy trades 15 potatoes for an emerald which i think is one of the better potato traits that I’ve seen and I just put a potato with 15 up there likewise these guys both have a 16 string trade I Haven’t quite figured out what this leather worker has got to offer because he still got a quite a high leather trade and I haven’t been bothered to unlock any more of those this guy trades coal for 18 and he’s an armorer so he’s got some other armor and stuff to Display but it’s not all that great it’s projectile protection too which is an enchantment I basically never use so if I wanted to get a diamond chestplate and take the enchant Offutt that would be a possibility but for now I think the best thing we’re gonna be doing with this guy is trading 18 coal for and emerald if we want to trade coal with him at all the tool Smith’s Armorer’s and weapon Smith’s that actually have useful trades I’ve displayed those over the top here so this guy sells an efficiency to pickaxe for 15 emeralds that’s not a bad trade This guy sells a fortune one efficiency to unbreaking to axe for 10 emeralds which is actually a really good deal if you think about it because that would be a great lumber actually be able to use the four-team to get more saplings out of the trees that you cut down combined A couple of those you only need to spend 20 emeralds you’ve got yourself an efficiency 3 unbreaking 3 axe with fortune – that’s really not a very bad deal so instead of going diamond mining and enchanting an axe all we’d have to do is trade a few things with this guy And getting 20 emeralds is child’s play once you have a guy who can trade you an emerald for like 9 or 8 or even 7 melons in the case of that farmer up there and I think that one over there does 7 as well so this guy will sell us a Protection to unbreaking diamond chestplate for 18 emeralds that’s also a pretty decent trade efficiency to pickaxe there unbreaking to fortune one pickaxe they’re all relatively cheap this guy over here is our 36 mending villager who’s the backup for Mendelson that we’ve got over there in the house He will sell me mending for 10 so I don’t think I’ll be visiting this guy all that often but it’s good to have him around nonetheless and these guys over here I’ve not quite gotten to yet but we’ve got some pretty good paper trades over here stuff like that leather Workers who will sell us emeralds for less leather that kind of thing armour oh I I haven’t quite figured out exactly what some of these guys best trades are but this guy in particular I’ve decided that the only thing he’s gonna be able to trade me for a decent amount of Emeralds is the chainmail armor which is something that you can’t normally craft yourself you can only get it as mob drops or from these armors so considering that the depress the chest plate here really wasn’t that great protection 1 on a chest plate for 18 emeralds I’ve got better deals elsewhere Instead what I’m gonna do is keep this guy as my chainmail trader in case I need to get any of this to decorate armor stands with or maybe just to wear as a challenge or something like that I don’t know we’ll see what we can do with That but if you want to become the king of trading the best thing to do is to set up a bunch of automatic farms that would allow you to farm all of these resources in the back making them freely available for trading whenever you want to for example to get A rotten flesh trade on the go it would be really useful for us to have a zombie spawner like I mentioned in the last episode alternatively we could set up a large-scale mob farm that farms sort of general mobs using dark areas to spawn them and then usually you build these Things up in the sky because it’s far away from caves and then you drop all of the mobs on to something that can collect the drops and you just get a ton of rotten flesh and string and just the basic kind of drops from regular mobs That way and that would be how we end up getting you know rotten flesh to trade with the sky on a regular basis when it comes to librarian obviously we’ve got a paper trade very very easily with the sugarcane farm that we have over there When it comes to the farmers there are a couple of different approaches you can take we’ve already got a massive wheat field and so you could do the same thing with potatoes and carrots just grow a massive field that grows over time and then you can harvest it yourself another Approach that people often take is an automatic approach using villages where the villagers have a little crop field kind of like they have in the villager breeder route right now is flooded so that I can force them into this corner but you remember there was a carrot Field in this village of Rita which they were harvesting and throwing the carrots to each other you can actually trick the villagers into throwing them into a collection mechanism and there’s a way of doing that that I will explain in a future video but that’s not the approach I’m going to take today because the one we’re going to take is one that involves a little bit of interaction with the player so it’s not a fully automatic design but it is one of the faster methods of obtaining a whole bunch of crops really quickly if you want to get A ton of potatoes and carrots really fast and you can’t be bothered waiting around for the villagers to harvest them automatically for you this is a good way to do it we’re going to set up something that is commonly called a nano farm or a Micro farm and this is going to allow us to harvest crops really quickly and it’s a very simple design as well all the ingredients we need are in here except for a bunch of bone meal which I think I do still have back at the house so I Will I will assemble this thing over here we’re going to grab a bunch of bone meal and I’ll show you quite how easy it is to assemble so first thing you wanna do is make sure that you’ve got a grass block available to you so that you can Hold that that’s going to be our farmland and around this we’re going to assemble three dispensers one two three all facing into the grass block like so if I can get the angle right on that dispenser there we go so this thing is going to be a block of Farmland that’s going to be bonemeal by these three dispensers because one of the functions of dispensers is to use bone meal to grow crops but normally of course it takes more than one bone meal to grow a crop hence the three dispensers we’re going to trigger all Three of these to fire bone meal at once and it’s going to grow the crop basically instantaneously I’ll give you a quick example of that let’s actually you don’t get the bone meal now so we’re going to hold the ground underneath here I’m gonna take out a block underneath One of these dispensers and we’re going to put a bucket of water in just to make sure that this farmland stays hydrated there we go so that the farmland doesn’t revert back into dirt or anything like that so down there that should actually hydrate the farmland nicely and what We’re going to do is take these bone blocks break them back down into bone meal so we have a nice amount in each of these dispensers best to distribute it evenly although you will find that one of these dispensers doesn’t use as much bone meal as the others thanks to quirks Of redstone timing and stuff like that now we’re going to come up here with a couple of blocks and we’re going to place an observer facing downwards looking at this farmland here so it’s going to look like that and then we can place blocks on top of each of these Dispensers like so one two three and wire all of this up with redstone like that and when you place a carrot or a potato or some wheat seeds or even some beetroot seeds on here each of these dispensers is going to fire at the same time like so there we go we have Ourselves a fully grown set of carrots ready for harvesting each time the observer detects as something has been planted here it will immediately fire all of those dispensers and the observer also detects changes in the crops there so once the crop actually grows it takes a second time and fires the dispensers Again but the dispensers are smart and if the bonemeal they’re using isn’t going to affect what’s here because it’s already fully grown the bone meal won’t actually be consumed so you won’t end up using twice as much bone meal as you need you’ll only ever end up using as Much bone meal as you need for example now take a look at the amount of bone meal we’ve got in here I’ll even it out to make it a little bit clearer for you we’ve got 64 64 and 59 if I take this away notice the dispensers all fire Again because I’ve made a change to that crop that still has the same amount of bonemeal there in the dispenser that’s not a misfire either it’s very very accurate and it will be smart about its bone meal usage which means you can use this setup to harvest crops to your Heart’s content now to turn this into an automatic machine that’s going to harvest crops for you automatically what we need to do is take advantage of a mechanic of how crops interact with light or more accurately the lack of light you may have encountered this already if you built a farm underground You have to light up the area around a crop farm underground because without access to the sky or an adequate light level it isn’t actually possible for you to plant crops at all I’m gonna make a slab here to show you in a little bit more detail because if we make a stone Slab like so a stone brick slab we can cover this over like so and that has darkened the area inside of here now in the next update it might not do that because slabs are actually going to be able to let light through them but if we Try and do this now if we try and right-click on that farmland in there it’s actually making me try and eat the carrot but even if I fill up on something else there you go we can’t actually interact with the farmland there in any way and place it and the Main reason for that is because it’s too dark in there for crops to grow if I take the slab away and place that there it’s going to grow them now the fun thing about this is if you reduce the light in there to zero while the crop is Planted the crop will automatically pop out and that’s a way we can actually automate this process now it used to be that you could still plant crops while this area was completely dark and then the Despenser’s would fire bonemeal before the game could react to the Darkness around the crop and pop it off of the farmland but unfortunately that is no longer the case as of minecraft 1.13 so the way we can do this is to set up a sticky piston to push a slab in front of this when something is planted And then it will pop the crop out of the farmland once it has been bonemeal very very quickly we’re going to set this up so it pushes and pulls a slab in front of here and that should be fairly simple to do all we need to do is run the Redstone signal down onto a block next to the sticky piston here and that’s gonna power that block which will power the sticky piston for a single redstone tick in the same way that the observer has been powering the dispensers it’s all run off of the same at redstone Circuit so now if I pop a carrot down there you’ll see boom immediately pops out they’re out after it’s been bone milled by these dispensers the problem with this is that the darkness arrives instantly it arrives exactly the same moment that the dispensers are trying to bonemeal the Crop and the crop just pops off without actually having grown in the first place however if you hold down right click like so you actually generate a lot more carrots and that is because it’s taking advantage of that second tick after this crop updates and the piston retracts you’re actually planting another crop And all of the dispensers fire again while the piston is retracting so you end up farming a lot of crops this way as long as you’re holding down the right-click button like so there we go we’ve gotten over two stacks of carrots now we started with a lot less than that Let’s also demonstrate with the potatoes just so we can keep track of the numbers here I’ve got nine potatoes right now let’s see what happens if I hold down right click on this block for a little while let’s see how many potatoes we end up getting and of course standing really Close to it like this means that the stack of potatoes in my hand is always refilling there we go we’ve ended up with 43 after just that short amount of time and as you might expect if we stand here for a super long amount of time just holding down right click standing close Enough that the potatoes in my hand are just refilling every single time what you end up with is a whole bunch of potatoes ready for trading and the occasional poisonous potato which you can just add no fling into a fire or something like that they’re useless if You’re doing this with wheat or beetroot obviously you’re planting the seeds instead of planting the actual vegetables and you’ll get more seeds back and only one crop each time so it’s less effective for that kind of thing but then villagers don’t trade beet roots anyway and to be honest they’re Useless for breeding from what I understand as well so it’s not really useful to have beet roots at all they’re just kind of more of an aesthetic thing and if you want to get that advancement for eating all of the different types of food in the game that’s probably the Only time you’ll actually need beetroot for something on the other hand this circuit is really great for getting a hold of a bunch of potatoes and carrots which are usually pretty good trades with farmers if you don’t have a large-scale pumpkin a melon farm or you’re waiting for those to replenish Now we can also adjust the piston timing just a little bit by having a repeater running into the piston instead of having this block here so let me set that up real quick we’ll put a redstone repeater there we can bring the redstone current down from the top go into this repeater and Set a slight delay so that each time you place a crop in there it’s going to get bonemeal fully before the piston actually blocks the light off in this so you’re always going to get stuff from that however it is a little bit slower because you can’t replant the crop quite As fast so it’s really up to you which approach you want to take and how much noise you can stand because these things do get a little bit noisy it might be worth turning your blocks sounds down so that you don’t have to listen to those Pistons quite so much there you go it’s a little bit quieter but that ladies and gentlemen is a pretty effective crop nan-oh farm and that will allow you to harvest a whole bunch of carrots and potatoes for trading with your farmer villagers the next farm we’re going to Build is even smaller than this one is used for something completely different that’s right so we’re going to take a look at AFK fishing farms afk once again means away from the keyboard meaning that you can set this farm running and basically leave go away make a cup of Tea you know go about your business and go and do something else while this farm is collecting stuff for you and the fact that it is getting stuff from fishing makes this a very powerful farm indeed because you’ll remember from our fishing episodes that fishing is actually a Great way of getting treasure you can get in chanted books this way you can get in chanted items like bows and more fishing rods it is gonna work best if you have a fishing rod with mending already but after that the sky’s the limit and for that you actually only Need relatively few resources you’ll need a fence of some kind a couple of building blocks a note block and iron trapdoor a bucket of water and a pressure plate now I’ve got no pressure plate and an iron one here this is a heavy weighted pressure plate that’s Just made with two iron ingots and I recommend using one of the metal ones because they are slightly faster to respond than the wooden ones so I’ll build this farm for you and then I’ll explain a little bit more about it you’ll also need something to dig a hole But your fists will do of course if you’re digging down in gravel or sand or grass or whatever what you need to do is place a fence here next to the hole that we just dug just dig a one-block hole like so then you want a water log at This fence just by right-clicking on it with your bucket of water that will allow the water to flow down into the hole if you don’t dig the hole first the water will just spread everywhere so best to make sure you have that hole dug First now on top of that we are going to put the pressure plate right on the fence like so we’re gonna put the note block behind it over here and to prevent it from making noise we’re actually going to place a slab or some other kind of block on top of that now If we right-click it doesn’t make any noise whatsoever add an iron trapdoor to the side of that block like so so it’s actually on the block above the note block like that and your AFK fishing farm is complete now that was easy wasn’t it So what you need to do is take a look at the iron trap door holding your fishing rod in your right hand and then hold down right click now what this does is when you cast your fishing rods the bobber actually activates that pressure plate it is an entity so therefore it Can be detected by the pressure plate and it activates it that flips up the iron trap door which allows your right-click action to interact with that note block instead of pulling the bobber back in and the only time that the bobber can actually be reeled back in is When it’s pulled out of the way of the pressure plate by dipping below the surface of the pressure plate which is what happens when a fish swims into it right so eventually you’re going to find that the pressure plate deactivates the iron trap door closes and you get to Reel the bobber back in you immediately cast it back out again if you’re holding down right click like this and the whole process begins again you start right-clicking on the note block as though you’re tuning it obviously it doesn’t make any noise right now because We’ve got a block over the top of it but that allows for the afk fishing farm to work because that allows you to just reel in items constantly and if you’ve got a mending fishing rod the experience you get from fishing will even repair The rod as you go so you can just hold down the right-click button for as long as you want or alternatively set up a script with your mouse to hold down right click permanently while you walk away and go and do something else or if you want to you can go into options Controls and rebind the normally the right mouse button to something else let’s rebind it to pee right now and then you just put a weight on the P key on your keyboard and you walk away now to make sure that doesn’t happen you will need to look at a very specific Spot in the iron trap door to make sure that your Baba doesn’t constantly recast itself really fast like that so occasionally that can become a problem but as long as you’re looking at the right place and you have there you go yeah it will flicker like that occasionally but as long as you’re Looking at roughly the right spot it should work every single time and of course once your hand is off the mayor Sanjeev walked away it’s just gonna keep doing what it’s currently doing now night is the problem of course because this fishing farm is right out In the open and the main reason for that is that it needs sky access to work more efficiently we actually built this out in the open for a reason and that is because the fishing mechanic in Minecraft requires sky access to operate a little bit faster if you build this in A cave it would still work it would just be a lot slower because the water block here is not open to the sky if you’re in a cave let me just rebind that button again because otherwise I’m gonna forget about that and it’s really gonna catch Me out later on so like I said it is best to build these things where this water block can have sky access above it now not just like a high enough light level or something like that it actually needs the open sky above placing a glass Block over the top of that will not be a problem that actually allows light through as though it has access to the sky but of course the problem with leaving this entire thing open is that during the night you might get ambushed by hostile mobs zombies and skeletons And so forth will walk up to you creepers will blow you up and as of 1.13 phantoms will rain down on you from the sky so a lot of the time it is worth making sure that this place is well contained obviously he’ll have to build better walls than this because Baby zombies will still be able to get in these one block gaps but I’m talking about if you’re setting up against phantoms having a block over the top of your head like so and making sure that you’re all kind of hemmed in like this making sure that nothing can walk up to You on the side but making sure there is a nice clear block above this you will actually end up being able to afk fish for as long as you care to as long as you really want to do you’ll be able to fish and your rod will just continue Repairing itself if it’s got mending you’ll be able to get tons of treasure and stuff like that if it’s got luck of the sea and lore so you’ll be in pretty good shape and this is actually the way a lot of people especially on multiplayer servers will get hold of Mending books for the first time because if you’ll remember mending books can be fished up out of this and it is one of the only ways of getting mending because you can’t get it from a regular enchantment table AFK fishing is a much faster and more convenient way than Finding a villager and setting up this whole villager breeder setup just to get a guy with mending or alternatively finding a mending book in a dungeon chest which is in no way guaranteed so a lot of people in the early stages of a world will actually Set up one of these afk fish farms and then walk away from it for a day or so all you need to do is put a couple of hoppers with chests underneath this farm to make sure that it’s kind of collecting all of the items once your Inventory starts to fill up because it will fill up quite quickly if you get unique items like books and bows and fishing rods and that kind of thing and that’ll collect up into a storage chest and you’ll probably want to put multiple storage chests linked with hoppers down There so in that case you’ll probably need enough materials for a couple of hoppers and chests and that kind of thing but that shouldn’t be too difficult to get hold of you could probably do this on the first night of a Minecraft world if you wanted to and It’s because these things get so many enchantments and so much good loot that they are actually kind of frowned upon by some communities some people actually take exception to people using these AFK fishing farms more often than not because people doing this on the first Day of a server are going to be afk they’re not going to allow their server mates to sleep because they’re away from the keyboard which means people out in the open have to contend with phantoms and that kind of thing and it’s also a little bit antisocial you know you’re Logged in to the server but you’re not able to respond to messages in the chats or anything like that so some people don’t look too kindly on afk fishing so if you’re gonna do this in your single-player world it’s probably fine that’s entirely up to you but in Multiplayer servers you might want to check a little bit about the etiquette first if you’re playing multiplayer survival with people make sure they’re ok with you using an afk fish farm before you actually set one of these things up otherwise it could be a little rude and it’s not necessarily a mechanic I intend to use a whole bunch now that I have this fairly expansive villager trading setup and I didn’t want to introduce this too early into the series because it kind of bypasses a lot of the stuff that is worth doing with villagers getting hold of villages learning their Mechanics finding cool trades and stuff like that is a little bit of fun whereas the afk fishing method is a bit of an easy bypass and it takes some of the fun out of the challenge out of you know breeding villages and finding a guy with a good mending trade like exactly how Excited I was to find Mendelson the guy who’s in the house now the guy he trades us mending with ten emeralds like you can’t get that kind of excitement from AFK fishing and just finding that you’ve got ten or fifteen mending books after a few nights worth of it so yeah I don’t Know if I recommend doing this necessarily if you’re new to Minecraft especially it’s kind of nice to take things like one step at a time and do some into action with villages before you just jump into automated farms like this but if you want to get up to speed with a Server that’s already pretty well established and nobody’s able to lend you any books this could always be a good option for that one last thing before you wrap up today’s episode you might notice I’ve been carrying the Trident around with me and I have actually enchanted this thing now I went Into an enchanting table and it had loyalty 3 on there already so I figured I wasn’t going to get loyalty and riptides on a trident because that’s not actually possible so I figured it was a safe bet to enchant it as it was and it came out with loyalty 3 impaling 4 and Unbreaking 3 on it just from one enchant which I’m very happy with I still need to get channeling which I was hoping to get from one of the librarians in our village of reader here still hasn’t popped up yet but I’m sure we will get to it eventually and I’ve got mending on It now so that just needs to get taken over to the experienced farm where we can top up the durability on it but that it’s gonna be it for this episode guys thank you so much for watching this episode of the
