change anything Here I just added this piano in the base is really cool this is their um it’s like called the dark piano or Something dark School just turn off all Gentle always remember to turn off the buzz on these keyscape things otherwise they make this crazy buzz when you master it there’s like a sound so you must never forget to go inside here well especially for the pianos these ones don’t have it but usually uh You click on effect and you can um a d noise option be sure to use that otherwise like you’ll Master it then suddenly you’ll have this like sh sound and it’s like what is that I did a f once and I had it on for like the Whole thing and then I mastered it then the whole thing had it I had to redo everything what a nightmare what a nightmare Noise Okay let’s make these uh strings a little softer low ones better there’s also like a synth base you to make a bit softer It’s like a wal it’s not a wal but you know it’s like it’s very like a ballet of like making this I see a ballet and I was going to explain this in the last stream but I got a little sidetracked but it’s like a conversation the first like in the dawn When the Sun starts to rise and all the animals and birds and everything starts to wake up and starts to chir and talk and have a whole conversation and this song is basically like the conversation of the Minecraft creatures the sheeps and the cows and the birds and the Parrots and you know everyone’s waking up it’s the first dawn of this world and they’re having this beautiful conversation with each other as as everyone wakes up and you know he has the It’s still like super spacious and soft because not everyone’s awake yet sun comes up some more comes some More everyone’s starting to wake up now and maybe like these little there’s like this little line it’s like sunbeams and stuff you Know and now the conversation starts between like the birds and someone on says there’s other Line all The oh the sun’s coming up everyone’s waking Up and now everyone’s awake so I just kind of wanted to just like now the sun’s the sunrise is over and the Sun is now in the sky and now are we going to work on This and now it’s going up and this part over the coming year that is almost a reimagined Minecraft world so it’s as if there’s never been a soundtrack for Minecraft written taking elements from the soundtrack that exists but as if I was hired to write the soundtrack for Minecraft based on your guys feedback and help so that is what I’m trying to Do over the coming year I just want to make a huge collection of music that I’m going to like grow this du du theme that I have and just write music as if it were for Minecraft in my mind and I would love to be able to create Like a a platform wherein you guys can license the music and use it in your own videos and have access to the stems and stuff because you know the way I think content creation and the world is moving you know you don’t really need these huge and I you know you don’t really Need huge companies anymore to be able to do amazing things you don’t need a record deal you don’t need a huge movie deal as a creative we have such an incredible platform upon which to reach people and grow our own audience and be able to provide value to People you know whereas the traditional model is you come in and you have to get a deal and do all this stuff and I I just don’t I don’t believe in that um so I just I fig this would be a really cool way for me to write music and have a Bigger purpose and just to make something this year where I just want to make what I want to make with the help of my wonderful friends who are guiding me along this project and see what I make you know and hopefully along the way if people want to use it they can Use it and that would be awesome uh so I’m kind of hoping I can get some of the Hermits to use the music I know Ren is super Keen to use this music in his next season so it’s going to be pretty awesome if we can see if like where I stand it’s funny being an immigrant you always live in the unknown it’s pretty exhausting but I’m I’m a bit of a catastrophizer about things sometimes and I think I always naturally just think have some clarity in the next few months about my future hopefully I can stay another 3 years in the US In Los Angeles uh pursuing my my dream but yeah I’m going back to business school because I also of your business St your business stuff otherwise you’re just going to get taken advantage of by people um and that’s unfortunately the world we live in as creatives and being in Los Angeles for 4 years almost now in March I would have Moved here four years ago I’ve certainly come across and worked with my fair share of interesting characters um and I just want to be prepared to take them on accompany my lyrics any advice I think you should just play whatever instruments you can get your hands on and find out which one you really like well that’s kind of a tough thing to say honestly cuz you know you can’t Just go and get any of I mean sort of piano for sure piano is awesome I play piano pretty much exclusively I used to I studied guitar but I play piano now and I’m not the best piano player but I’m really hopeful to get really good at piano this year Um I write all my stuff but you know I play everything on the keyboard so I work on a piano I think piano is the most useful instrument to know if you want to produce music today because realistically a nobody has time to go rant out a studio and no one has the Budget to pay people to actually play Tim and I were talking about this uh for our podcast cost and we were like the sad thing about it is that you know there’s just no budget now to pay people in music to have real people play in Your in your bands which is really sad I’ve never heard my music being played by real people it’s all been me at a keyboard trying to play the way I imagin those people would play and I’m not like a bass player or a drummer or any of Those things I just sit there and program it until I think it sounds real but when you play with other people they add their dimension of them in your music and I think that must be a surreal experience to hear people your song where you aren’t solely responsible for Every everything in the song you know I’ve got a sit here with a little mod wheel and try play the violin that’s so that a computerized violin sounds like a real violin you know it’s it’s crazy in the old days you would write the music you’d arrive there’d be a Orchestra of People there waiting to play you you should give them the music they play your music and imagine that that would have been awesome but we live in the world now where we compose all the all the parts and we have to play all the parts and frankly in the real Professional world if you want to get a budget to work with more people they’ll probably tell you no they’ll probably just say like your sound sound good enough you know and so that’s it bro that’s it so you need to be able to play the piano this is the Most important uh I hate to say most important instrument here for modern day music production because you can essentially be a oneperson band and you can do it all but that’s where you then have to study and listen to a lot of music and listen to how People play um in the songs like you need to be able to listen intensely to music and isolate the parts so that you can just Zone in on the bass player for example or uh you can just Zone in on what the kick drum is doing or you can Just Zone into that guitar that’s strumming softly somewhere you know it’s like it’s you need to start intensely listening to music I I listen to the same music uh for months one album I’ll listen to make a jazz noise here this is a Frank zapper record which I’ve been listening to now Pretty much exclusively it all started it wasn’t at this one it all started at uh the album was called uh um them and us it’s got an awesome cover them were us this one I found this one I just thought the cover was so awesome um and in Particular the closer you are was awesome Sinister Footwear changed my life like the song was crazy the song is crazy mem what is up um and then Stevie spanking is one of my favorite songs of all time so this led me on to make a jazz noise here because I was trying to find a live version of um Sinister Footwear and then then I try to figure them out I sometimes wonder if I’m act accidentally plagiarizing you need to Plagiarize you need to find things in music that people have figured out and you need to try create it like how else what was that oh I apparently I got a subscription um you need to PL your eyes because that’s how you learn frankly I listen to this music I mean recently I’ve for the past year I’ve been deep into the scale the diminish Scale this is the diminish scale and it’s nuts In Fact in fact a lot of the music I write now is within the diminish Realm and all of these notes are available to you in the in the diminish Scale this is dimin It’s amazing yeah camera definitely slipped [Laughter] there How’s that for a scale in fact a lot of this crazy music you hear um you don’t realize it’s all just the diminish scale for a long time diminish scale this is called the the half hole diminish scale and it’s just it’s very simple when you think about it You’re just going in intervals of a half step whole step half step whole step half step but it’s beautiful because in a normal ma major scale you have seven but in this one you have 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 nine you have nine notes In the the Min scale um and a bunch of Triads available to you um so a lot of this really crazy I’ve been listen to this trick career album called um return to the Ultimate Adventure and I mean Zappa uses the diminish scale pretty a lot you know um And in Movie music classical music you it’s often on a seven Chord this is the Minish skll sounds in fact when Mara starts his uh I mean h starts the planets that’s all the diminish scale uh but this album is amazing but a lot of it is just in the diminish skill and it’s great on dominant Chords And you can then mix stuff Together No do Inversions if you had like a low Base it’s just Awesome no they didn’t like but it’s it’s quite ironic because within every dominant chord in classical music is a diminished interval that’s what makes if you have a G7 there’s a b diminish chord in a G7 and every dominant chord there’s a diminish chord so they were talking some They were talking some rubbish bro because they were using that there’s the diminished chord in a G7 you can’t have a dominant chord without a diminished that’s a trone and it’s diminished which is the most tense interval and that’s why it wants to resolve because it needs to Resolve because it’s the most awkward distant interval so it creates the Desire for resolution you love to see it anyways there’s my rant about the diminish scale I want to play one more piano song and go to the diminish scale I can’t be hold a carnival I love the diminish scale I can Talk about the diminish scale for hours I’m a homon music geek I love all things music theory all things hommon this was all going on to say that you need to listen to music to find those little things in the songs and try and recreate it like Try and make something in the scale and see how challenging it is and that’s how you learn but the only way you’re going to learn is by plagiarizing somebody let’s be honest I mean you know there’s really not much that hasn’t been done up to this point and best be sure The person that you heard do the thing probably you heard somebody else do it so it’s like you need to plagiarize I wouldn’t call it plagiarizing I would call it learning and it’s plagiarizing if you’re taking exactly what they do and using it in exactly the same form but I’m telling You Rak manov is not the first person to voice a major 7even chord like that the major 7even chords have been voiced like this many times before rack manov decided to do this voicing but it’s just that I heard that voicing in that song and then was like Wow that’s so beautiful and it was unexpected for me I didn’t think they would choose this it’s a very dark sound it could even be a minor You know it’s very dark but it’s such a beautiful happy song and it’s so heroic and then this dark chord just comes In and he has that Clash so is it a minor a minor with a with a flat 13 or is it F major 7 over a because if it was F in the Base that’s what it would be which sounds totally Different but I had like it being an F lydian sound because the the B makes it f lyan right Sorry but instead it’s uh it’s that which is totally different it’s a totally different sound don’t you think it’s awesome so awesome like how would I have thought about that unless I listen to R mov do that and and learn the song not I you know I didn’t get the Music in front of me I sat down and I know the Melody it’s just go C in the base C in the right hand it goes to F major in the right hand and that’s the harmony you just need to wrap your brain around the Harmony and then figure out inversions are the coolest things on the planet and Triads are the coolest things to ever exist and uh the way to really progress in writing music is to learn how to use Triads because Triads are the answer to all of your questions it seems almost ironic because Triads are just three note things but all of this crazy Jazz Stuff all of this crazy classical stuff are all Triad relations to to bass notes basically if you have a c in the Bas and play A D major Chord you get basically a cyan sound right if you play a e minor chord with C in the base you get a C major 7 okay if you play an E major chord with C in the base you get a c augmented major 7 they’re all Triad relationships if you want to Improvise on a G7 you could just play a G BDF or you could switch between G and a d flat major Triad to get an aled sound right and that’s it if I can play it and there there are your notes that you want to have to get that out sound So you need to learn to figure figure out how people use these things so the mathematics make sense and then you simply just apply the mathematics and it works it’s that simple it’s all maths it’s all maths and I’m pretty passionate about it I’m Pretty passionate about figuring out these little relationships between things and how they work and how I can recreate it and then for example I’ve been writing music in the diminish scale now for a year in the first song there’s a lot of diminished Parts in that stream screen going crazy yeah my Computer’s probably freaking up is it back it’s okay oh I made a uh theme song Oh Melody that was like I’ve been writing pretty much
