Well hello there my crafters thanks for coming by today we’re talking about doors and locks and systems that you can use towards your own adventure map now what I mean by that is basically it’s common practice in an adventure map or a custom map to have the player come across an Area where they will see a door or some sort of place they can’t get to yet because they have to bring the right key or defeat some mob or finish some puzzle and then they’re allowed to have access after they’ve done that to the rest of The map so I thought why not make a tutorial of a bunch of doors that I’ve either come across in my own playthroughs of people’s Maps or ones I’ve come up on my with on my own and hopefully it will help you because it’s always nice to see a creative video Where you can use what you’ve learned towards your own project rather than just see some interesting attractions somebody who’s made so anyway we are going to be talking about a bunch that are working 1.7 and then the last few only work in 1.8 but let’s start with the classic survival I’m in survival You’re the classic door of just the lever iron door here I don’t recommend a button but yeah this very very simple you’ve probably all done that you know survival nope that’s all you need that might be all you need in your map and if it is congratulations because it doesn’t Get much simpler than that there are a few problems with that especially in adventure mode one point seven when you could break and place levers let’s say you wanted the player to to complete a puzzle and then the reward was this lever well if they somehow were able to Craft a lever or steal from somewhere else they could just come up to this door and there you go you unfortunately they’ve bypassed the puzzle and you know all that work he did was for nothing so good practice in 1.7 and I say 1.7 because 1.8 this isn’t really a problem Anymore but in 1.7 maps you should be actually powering your doors so they look like they’re closed so this door right here is actually being powered open right now but I can’t do anything with the with the lever I’ve actually used this quite a bit in my maps and the Only way to open this one is to place a lever on this block and then you can open it and this doesn’t have to be a lever this could be you’ve finished a puzzle and then the door opens for you so this is really really simple the way that it works as You can see the hinges around the opposite side because this door is actually let me go in creative mode here a store is actually being powered all the time and the way to open the door it’s 2d power that torch you can see here’s the redstone dust I’m Dee Powering it with this lever which pulls from that repeater sends of this block and it’s actually the door is being unpowered and that’s why you can walk through so that’s a way to get around from the player making a little bit more difficult for the player to kind of Cheat their way through as long as you have that and it’s and it’s got to be like so that that is actually unpowered and then you can open it up yeah and you’ll see a lot of these the doors are backwards just to prevent that but some People want the type of door that requires a specific item to open and one of the easiest ways is a hopper sorting system and a lot of these doors are mostly redstone but we get to some more command blocks later on this one here says only Gold’s the only gold dust will Open this door again it’s got the place where it won’t open if it’s the oops hold open if it’s the wrong item let me just oh boy I messed that one up see if I can redo that yeah they could break it in like that there we go so That’s how you place it if you want to lock it but this is not going to do anything there if I place the wrong item so I’ve placed this door this is wrong item if I place basically anything this is the wrong item unless it’s gold dust Apparently and we haven’t won just stuff leave glowstone dust is kind of like gold Dustin’s put that in there and this is wrong item so we need to factually find gold dust which there it is in the middle gold dust the only thing that’s gonna open it is the actual right item And there you go you’ve got access to it and that’s sort of the hopper sorting system this is basically how the monument works in diversity show you how that works briefly so what we’ve got is an interesting thing with hoppers here if a hopper is placed on Its side it still will always want to drop the item right below it and below it I have a threshold I mean and just keep this number of mine 18 plus 4 or you can spread them out but as long as it’s that amount it’s only gonna power That much dust and one more item will make it power this dust which will set off this reaction of torches this is more basic for you probably use most of this actually in I think I use it all in survival mode but it’s very basic not Really any command blocks if I put one more right item you’ll see it’s gonna power that and open that door because it is now technically being unpowered any item I put in here is gonna want to go down to this hopper but because it’s only accepting gold dust the hot this Hopper is gonna push the rest over here and I’ve just got a bunch of chests with a bunch of stuff I put in here i sword just so it you know there’s less of a chance for it to clog up but obviously that is a concern they could put players Could put enough items to clog that up and mess it up that has happened to me so that’s one of the downsides to this but the other the other thing about it is there is a comparator here that when an item goes through that it’ll set off A reaction or a signal to say wrong item so one little modification to this system if you want to use this because one of the downside is if I put let’s see if I get that item if I put the right item in it’s gone opens the door But it’s gone which possibly that’s what you want that’s how kind of Zelda keys work you use the the key and you lose the key but if you put a good bit the wrong item but it’s something you want like oh oh I dropped my sword and uh Wrong I’m not getting that back unless I go digging for it one way you could modify that is just lift the whole thing up one block break that off you can see here you can imagine that’s flush with the floor if I put a wrong item in because the one Below it’s not accepting anything and then I’m not gonna lose it so I’ve used that too that is a fairly simple hopper sorting way just depends on whether you want the the texting wrong item or not but there’s also other ways to to have the right item open a door and this this Way here is more like a player detection way if you don’t want to put any item in there all they have to do is have the proper item in their inventory so you can see here I don’t have the golden care in my inventory this year I have Marked it where it’s I have to be when I when I want to have the carat so I’ve got a carrot here and basically I’m gonna walk up and once I get in the range here there we go we’ve opened the door we can go in again the downside is You lose the correct item but you don’t want the place that anything another downside is that they could have the golden carrot that’s in the map you know way far away and then they accidentally get killed lose it or whatever and now they can’t get into that section so the The next one will kind of fix that but if you want to do this way basically they’re gonna lose any golden carrot all golden carrots in school work at 1.7 and the way it works is the same thing the door is once again normally powered we’ve got this hopper clock it’s a Fairly basic hopper fairly basic clock with a hopper inside you place two hoppers that way they’ll constant fire back and give a signal to a comparator which is now gonna do a test for these coordinates so we have the x y&z X Y Zed 11 43 X 63 and then one one one block within that range it’s gonna clear anybody who has a golden carrot within that range if they don’t have a gold carrot nothing happens if they do it will fire off this which activates this regular piston pushes this block into Place and it’s a one-time shot so basically the door is left open I’ve unlocked it if you don’t want to do the other you could put a sticky piston then Oh pull it out pull it back and lock the door again but it’s you know there are Some downsides to it you lose all the golden carats in that case moving on here if you wanted to have a door where you’re not going to worry about what people lose you could have one that requires XP so this here let’s go into a Survival mode and so you can see I have no XP right now so nothing’s happening I can’t get through this door XP you can’t really lose unless you die but we have a bunch of XP bottles and see here nothing happens but as soon as I add some XP so I’ve got four levels still can’t get in it says I need five throw one more down I got five and now it opens so it’s in it doesn’t matter if I lose all my items so let me just throw everything in this chest the door still stays open I can Get in there because it’s based on what the player has as an attribute so it’s that’s uh that’s an older way to do it fairly simple you can just you can actually give XP you don’t have to actually give bottles you can give XP if You want but the way it works this is a comparator clock it’s a bit faster than a hopper clock actually quite a bit faster in a hopper clock and that’s sure if it’s any lag year if you didn’t know this redstone dust apparently gives off no light but there is particles so there Is some lag on particles but here we have this test for command and this is doing the same thing testing for that area from the door but it’s also testing to see if our LM equals five so our minimum level has to be five to set off This comparator which then does a set block and a set block is quite a bit it’s it’s silence you don’t have to worry about that piston sound if you want your door just to have silent sound that’s maybe what you want to do the down well actually one thing I noticed Is I put the if I put the LM first before the first before the coordinates for some reason it doesn’t matter where you are I guess it just reads off that and says yep okay I’m done I’ve done it kind of kind of doesn’t affect the coordinates so I Think order is important there but of course if you die at the XP you know it’s unfortunately you’ve lost that chance so it may not be the best door for you but it does solve that problem of losing an item another way to do it Is if you in this case I have to beat this boss or basically it’s a scoreboard way so you actually don’t have to worry about losing any items don’t worry about dying this is a way you can do it if you kill a boss in this case I am gonna go Let’s see let’s launch the boss here we go here’s the boss and you can see here the boss win on the side here I have zero I don’t that’s cut off or not but the score of zero as soon as I kill this like really hard boss here right now I Can’t get in the door I can’t get to the rest of the map as soon as I kill the other boss Oh big battle Oh dead I’ve got a score of 1 and now I can get into the door so this is all done with scoreboards based on the stat entity of Killing a chicken and this is again one of the best ways to do it because score boards are hidden you don’t have to worry about losing anything you don’t worry about dying if you want to let somebody in based on that requirement it also doesn’t use a clock necessarily It does use a clock but it uses a an item spawner which is XP so basically once I’m in range I’m not actually testing for player to be in range it’s actually the spawner is test is a launching when the players in range and the nice thing I like about this is this This clock this is a clock back here another compare clock but it only gets activated see if we can see it see it flashing there in the background only gets activated if the player is in range so that’s going to reduce a lot of leg I Think this type of clock and again this I think was invented by my friend yes / with the item spawner clock is absolutely and tastic for eliminating leg it’s really really important but anyway when during range it’s gonna start firing off this clock and then what’s going to do is It’s going to test for a minimum score of one so when I kill that chicken I’ve set it up over here see where’s that command here we go I’ve added an objective added a boss kill objective it’s going to work on the stat entity kill of chicken okay so when I kill a Chicken basically I get a point and then over here it’s gonna say okay minimum one yes and I am going to remove there was a torch up here somewhere okay reap area but yeah right here there was a torch here that got removed because this went on and that’s how that works so That’s that’s a really good way to do it if you want sort of wireless and also the item spawn or clock which I really really like you can also use this with a set block lock any basically any type of clock just activate it with an item Spawner and in this case it’s activating with XP because XP doesn’t an XP orb because it doesn’t create any any errors in the console and what I have here is an age it’s basically constantly dying and being respawned at this area I’m not going to go into too much detail I have Talked about that in the past but of course you can check out yes pers videos he’ll explain how to do that I’ll put a link in the description ok so that’s basically the kind of the useful ones in 1.7 that I’ve seen again you can just You can make this a piston door you can make it anything you want it’s just the signals activating on based on that criteria I’m just gonna remove my there we go it closed so you can see the torches there again I’ve removed it okay now these three here need 1.8 to work There are some new commands but they’re pretty fancy this one in particular actually wouldn’t be required 1.7 but they change and things around with the venture mode we’ll get into that later but here we have this one needs the correct key this one needs the correct key and here we Have write a bunch of redstone torches okay let’s see what is gonna open is another player detected one it’s not gonna open up okay hmm ah the spark it’s the spark from complex once I have the spark it opens up I have the spark and it closes behind me so I Have the correct spark I’m not losing the item pretty good here it knows I have it I can go in there and you know a downside if I die obviously well if I keep inventory I’ll keep it on but let’s say I lose my aims in lava you’re toast But it is cool because it’s sort of wireless seamless and I just have to I could have as many different types of keys as I want needs the correct key in this case it’s the spark and the other nice thing is this does not stack it Doesn’t stack with if I get all these doesn’t stack with the other ones I did a video that kind of explained this process in the past but is a bit different because now you can actually clear items at zero so what we have here is a set block clock which is the Fastest clock I know of it’s so fast you can’t even see it changing and if I break it it’s constantly being powered and not powered and just to prove that to you this is really really really popular right now if I do if I say Hickam bad you see it Just fire off those commands and it honestly doesn’t really make sense logically but based on this being at the certain order if you put a redstone block below what it is negative one so I’m placing it here and then I change it to stained heart and clay or some other Block that’s non transparent doesn’t really matter what you change it to you but if you do not transparent you won’t get very much leg then it’ll constantly fire off for some reason and then this is just it shut off the clock but to start it you just need to play On there which I did over with this with this trap chest here have placed it over there and what’s gonna happen is if I have the spark and I’m in this range again it’s trying to clear anybody who has a redstone torch of one damage value And it’s trying to clear zero of them so basically it is clearing it from me but because it’s clearing zero I still get to keep it and has a damage value of zero so I had to use a give command to give it to me IRA damage value of 1 which means Regular redstone torch this type of damage value is zero it’s not going to stack with the other one so you can keep it separate I also gave it a separate name one that it fires off because it says yeah ok there is somebody with that here I’m still going to keep the item But it’s going to set block this remove this torch here and then that means that if I see if I have it in my inventory I can open that up so you can see torch is gone oh but it appears because I walked away from it because I now have a Replace it actually replaces it here it’s a pretty like it’s a really fast because it’s a set block clock here it’s very very fast it’s instant almost downside to the set block clock is if it’s not in the spawn chunk if you walk away it’ll basically stop working which Means if you use an item spawner to start your set block clock that’s probably the best way to do it but it’s that’s a it was a really cool way to detect it now that we can clear zero items and yeah that’s that’s a more of a More of a wireless way to do it and you can check the player whatever item you want to give them so now let’s go into adventure mode here and this is sort of the new way I’m trying to place items I am in snapshot 14 W 21 B cannot place Any items cannot break any items the only items you can break are some entities like paintings and item frames if they don’t have an invulnerable tag I don’t think you can break any any item not sure you can’t even place like a bucket of water on the On the ground unless it has a certain value so now in 1.8 adventure mode we need a key to go right here and it’s a lapis block which means one of these keys is gonna work because this is a lever no I can’t place that ah here it Is the lapis lever can be placed on a lapis lazuli block let’s see yep there we go and we can’t break it so there’s another way you can do it in 1.8 adventurer to lock the door they can’t open it unless it has specific items like specific MBT Data attached to it so let me show you how that is I got a gonna again into creative mode and I see her a bunch of bunch of jargon here so to speak but basically it’s gonna give me a lever it’s gonna be one lever at the damaged value of 0 but here We go we have a display name lapis liver and MBT can be a little confusing if you’re not familiar with it I still struggle with it but there’s lots of tutorial videos out there teaching you how to do it and we have a can place on command which means that this item when I get it it’s going to be called lapis lever and I can place it on a lapis block there we go I’ve got this item I can place it on a lapis block which means I can place it anywhere on this block provided it works with vanilla Minecraft and the reason I say that is because even if you put say give this lever to give this lever that can be placed on glass a lever can never be placed on glass so it can’t overwrite regular vanilla commands if you try to give an item like like a gold nugget That will destroy a mob spawner I don’t think it’s work like if you give if you give a pickaxe that can destroy bedrock it still can’t destroy bedrock because it can’t beat vanilla but that’s the probably seen lots of ways you can do it that’s another way you can stop somebody From getting to an area without getting that proper lever only the lever that can be placed on a lapis block okay now finally I like this little one this is a this is dealing with a lot more complicated commands basically we need the password hmm and we have some Paper here so I’m gonna clear out all this stuff you have some paper I’m gonna get the paper how are we gonna know what the password is so we type it in here let’s rename it something one two three four five maybe okay hmm Get in no I can’t get in okay um let’s try this password ah there we go okay we’ve gotten in okay so this is working with what specifically you are naming an item a little more complicated but it could be a way you know you could say Once you beat the mob to them in a tell raw command okay here’s the password you can get through now and let me show you how that works we have a set block clock back here and it is testing for me to have this item so it’s actually testing For my inventory we’re not doing a clear command we’re testing for an item in inventory anybody so look at this we’ve got this would you call it fancy bracket inventory : square bracket another a lot of these little weird things but here’s the here’s where the importance is we Need to say paper it needs to be paper and the display here the name needs to be whatever it is you want it to be and you may want to make a few more test fours for bad spelling just in case but once that happens it’s going to fire off This command and it’s saying I have it and it’s gonna set this block to quartz and then if I get rid of the item yeah it turns off and then it’s gonna reactivate it to a redstone redstone blocks a fight just grab it you can see it moves off there again Throwing it on the ground I don’t have it in my inventory I do have it in my inventory so there is a bunch of ways you can do your your locked doors in your adventure maps’ hopefully that helps you guys thanks for watching anymore details you know you can ask me In the comments I’ll help you out but a lot of these
