All right hello minecrafters and welcome to the empathy education edition 2.0 for minecraft it is the extreme minecraft makeover home edition and this is a way for you to bring empathy into your classroom there are several ceos of major companies like alibaba and microsoft and they are claiming that empathy Is a muscle you must work out this muscle and you must get our kids ready for the workforce with this essential skill of empathy so this minecraft lesson allows you to provide a little bit of empathy education in your classroom in a fun and engaging way And in this quick little video i’m going to explain what you do how you can do it and show you what it looks like so that you can walk into this project uh pain free and uh even feeling empowered so this is bbtnb.com empathy this is the website that All the resources are on of course all of this stuff will also be on the minecraft website as well it is called empathy education 2.0 and here is where you download the world of course it will also be on the minecraft site as well if you don’t have education edition That’s okay i have a seed here for you a seed number that you would put into pocket edition or another version of minecraft and that can take you to the same exact world and therefore you could use the coordinates of the suggested build sites that i have For you so what’s the project about there’s 12 different minecraft families that have suffered hardships school appropriate hardships and your students are going to use a little bit of empathy to listen to their needs listen to their wants and build them a dream home it is modeled after the home and garden Television show dream home makeover extreme home makeover where they help out a family in need so what i have for you here is i have a word version of all the families this is for immersive readers so if you have students who struggle with reading or if You want to translate into french or otherworldly languages i have the word version of the of the cards the family cards so the students can translate that and have it read to them i have the pdf high quality version of the family cards i have family digital pictures so i have The pictures of each of the cards and then again i have a link to the flip grid share site where you can share a screen captured walk through so here’s the cards here you can see them scrolling through here but this is not the focus i’ll show you A little bit of the world here in a second and it says here’s some sharing examples and thank you so let’s get into the minecraft world and show you what you can expect from your kids so as a teacher you have two choices you can download these cards Three choices actually you can download these cards and hand them out to your students that’s what i do you can then and then send them into the world you can download these cards hand them out to your students and let them use any world of their own choice you don’t Have to use the world that’s up above here you do not have to use that world or you can just send them into the world and i’ll show you how that works so let’s go take a peek at the empathy education 2.0 world all right here we are we are in the Empathy education world and you can see there’s a beautiful big heart waiting for them there is a french and an english welcome here so i’ll show you how that looks um so it says welcome to the empathy education experience follow the path to the village behind you where the guides will share stories About the families in need use a mercifreeder and also flip grid whenever you like and there’s the flip grid links embedded in all these npcs as your students go throughout the world and if you’re lazy and just want to teleport to the village center i have a link there too And that is just the french translation of the welcome message i have two boards here one in french one in english it gives a little more detail as you walk down this path so there’s the english one and there is the french translation and let’s head up to the village So we’ll fly here to make things quicker okay so what i did was i built my own village there was no village to be found so i actually decided to build my own village and you have each of these 12 families represented by a guide So when you click on the guide it gives you the brief little synopsis about what was happening so the anderson family they were struggling financially uh they got unemployed they have a baby on the way so you’re starting to develop the sort of urgency that these families have So what we’re going to do is we’re going to read a bit about them we can go visit the family profile card so you can go find your family and have a good read about all their needs and wants and details and then i’ve suggested a build site a b C and in some cases d uh just suggested bill sites throughout the world that can help your students find a good location a part of this project that takes so long is students flying around trying to find the right site well i’ve taken some time to actually try to find the right sites So you can see the andersons are there the sandusti’s and remember if you hit the i key on your keyboard it will read the signs or sorry the boards to you as well so all of this can be translated as well into any language you want on earth the Npcs can be translated through immersive reader and so can the boards by hitting the i key on the keyboard and it takes you into immersive reader so you can see all the needs and wants are listed on the board the npc has sort of a background story And as we move up through this village you see the different families here the freezing family the canary family and here they are all in this village and your students can run into the village and they can find the family they want and they can be teleported out just like this there’s The hack and loots they can go to the family profile card they can be teleported out to a build site a or b or in many cases more and this village can operate completely absent of the cards so you do not need to distribute the the family profile cards in class This village can operate with the family profile cards and also you don’t need this village at all you do not need this world at all you can actually just get the kids to open their own world find their own ideal location and with the cards they know exactly what the family’s looking for So this is the empathy education uh version 2.0 for 2021 and beyond and i thought i’d update it with its own little village and uh just just to drive home this point one last time you can use this world with the cards in the classroom you can use the cards alone with another World of the students choosing or you can use just this world because each of those npcs up in the village have hyperlinks to build locations they have all of the information linked digitally to the cards and i really think you have a lot of flexibility here And remember the whole goal is to have students think about someone other than themselves for the duration of this project most of these families can have a dream home built in about two hours class time uh depending on how extravagant the kids are going to get with their builds two Hours to two and a half hours is a great time to get a class an actual house built so i hope you enjoy this project it is my first project ever made and i’ve just recently updated it now for 2021 and beyond and it is a project that allows our students to flex That empathy muscle build that empathy muscle and go out into the world after graduation stronger and more competitive and more empathetic than ever before so this is the empathy education lesson now live at bbtnb.com empathy and also coming to the minecraft site very very very soon i hope you enjoy Video Information
