EPIC Minecraft Adventures: Brian’s Insane Tactics!

Hello it is I dr. Brian Laura GaN 111 and welcome back to a new season of exploration and tactics its exploration and tactics season 9 and yeah there’s a number of new things in this season that I will get to talking about and a bit

But oh oh my goodness right I am playing mostly blind and there is some new settings auto jump I don’t think I want that on at the beginning so I’m going to go ahead and turn that back off there’s a lot to talk about in terms of what I

Have chosen to do in this season and yeah rather than try to just give an information dump all at the beginning I’ll kind of spread it out and kind of slowly unfold exactly what’s going on but you may have seen that I have a number of negative status effects

Basically I had the idea for this season a while ago kind of months ago and then I’ve just had a lot of other things going on and then the timing kind of didn’t work out with 1.10 coming out and so I decided to wait until 1.11 came out

To do things that I wanted to do but I was thinking for another season of exploration and tactics while it is the case that I want to preserve a lot of what the series is about which is about you know exploring the world and discovering new things that are in the

New updates at the same time I was looking back at old exploration and tactics series and trying to figure out which ones I enjoyed the most and which ones I thought were kind of the most interesting and that I could reuse ideas from and two of my favorite series from

The past and exploration and tactics one was the original exploration and tactics where minecraft was still in beta and I was still very new to the game and so just basic survival was difficult and challenging which is kind of interesting in and of itself and I enjoyed that

Aspect of it as well as I built the sky rail in that original exploration and tactics and people always enjoyed the skyrail and it’s something that I wanted to try to flight comeback to and so some of the status effects that I have here at the beginning that eventually if we were

Skillful you will be able to shed are going to definitely make things more challenging I’ve got weakness mining fatigue and slowness too so that’s gonna make things harder to kind of get started I wonder if there’s gonna be some stone in the side of the hill over

Here so let’s kind of make our way back and yeah so those are some things as well as there’s going to be an incentive for me to build the a sky rail in this series and we’ll talk about that a bit later and alright and I hear some

Zombies over here somewhere so it sounds like there’s a cave another one of the exploration and tactics series that I really enjoyed I don’t remember which season it was it was like season four or five or something where basically I played Minecraft the one point for update I played it blind

We’re basically I didn’t know anything about the update just about and I do think blind playthroughs are kind of more fun it’s practically impossible to do minecraft blind unless you you know move to Antarctica and don’t have an internet connection for a year or something I’ve tried very hard to stay

Blind to the new things in the Minecraft 1.9 and 1.10 updates and but at the same time like just having subscription feeds and having friends who play the game and you know occasionally seeing a screenshot on on reddit and different things like I dunno the names of a

Number of new things that have been added in these updates and I have seen some screenshots of a number of new things but I’m still sure that there’s going to be a number of surprises for me in these updates and so I am playing 1.10 and 1.11 I guess you could say semi

Blind because there’s not a whole lot that I know about those updates right now I just hear a zombie who’s down here and found any coal yet and so one thing you would typically do if you just wanted to immediately hop down into a cave and

Normal minecraft is you would go and try to craft furnace but if I do that you haven’t unlocked the recipe for a furnace yet so another thing that is common in a few different games that I have played recently is that there are game modes where you don’t know all the

Recipes for all the things you can make kind of at the start of the game and instead you have to do something to kind of like earn those recipes in order to learn how to make certain things and so I decided that there are command blocks

Up here in the world I’ve started right near zero zero in this particular world it’s a random seed although it’s a little bit of a customised world and I’ll discuss that and a little bit as well but I decided that in order to make things more challenging in order to kind

Of get some of the feel that I had back in the original season of exploration and tactics where everything was really challenging in addition to the status effects the negative status effects that I have going I was also going to make it so that I had to earn my way into making

Certain recipes things like a furnace and a furnace is actually super important to get at the beginning and so there’s kind of a I don’t know if you call it like a recipe ladder or something but I can kind of earn new recipes over time and we will get into

Kind of all the details of that in a bit for right now it would be really great if I could find a cave system I don’t immediately see kind of an opening into a cave and with my mining fatigue it makes it slower to kind of like dig all

The blocks and so it’ll be easier for me if I can find a place that’s already dug out and yeah I guess that kind of segues into another thing I guess I’ll be able to see these command blocks up in the center you know what I forgot to do I

Forgot to actually set the spawn point over here of the world so if I were to die I would be somewhere randomly in the world and so you don’t mind I’m just going to say a spawn point I thought that that’s what you do I’m not getting any feedback

Right cuz I turned off the feedback I think that should work but let me also set world spawn and yeah hopefully that means the command box will always be running no matter where I go and if I do die I’ll be able to respawn back here because that was something I just

Remembered that I forgot to set up but basically I was also going to use this as a way to keep my bearings so that I don’t get lost as we get started but in any case so I have these negative status effects weakness mining fatigue and

Slowness – and I would like to get rid of them eventually and that the way that I will be able to do that is to kind of buy my oh my goodness alright so I’m aware of the fact that there are new mobs these appear to be some of the mobs

I believe that his polar bears and I’m not under attack right now in the interest of science I’m not actually going to attack the polar bear but I just want to see there’s like a mama and the baby oh crap okay and if I get between the mama and the baby I didn’t

Actually think that they would add that to the game but apparently that makes the mama bear angry at you okay and she she attacks and hurts fur a lot all right that’s actually pretty clever fascinating honestly I was just kind of doing that on the lark and I figured if

They were passive animals they were not going to attack but apparently they do alright so we live and we learn I’m gonna need some food of some sort and we’re naturally not in the best biome to try to get any food rabbits are not super great especially if I don’t have a

Furnace to cook them but I will try to kill a couple of rabbits over here although with my weakness and slowness I’m not even sure that I’m gonna be able to pull that off but yes I’ve gotten distracted already I was trying to say that yeah I don’t think I’m gonna be

Able to kill these rabbits honestly I want to find a caves that I can go spelunking because I have changed the dungeon loot so that dungeons are going to give me emeralds and with the emeralds I’ll be able to buy my way out of different status effects and so that

Also harkens back to something that I’ve enjoyed doing in multiple seasons of exploration and tactics which is just doing lots of caving and going exploring for dungeons this is a customized world I have only twiddled a few of the settings from the default but I have increased the dungeon spawn rate by

About a factor of three I think and so dungeons will be a little bit more common which is good because I need to find a number of them in order to be able to advance and another thing that I have changed just like in minecraft bingo I’ve turned off andesite diorite

And granite just because I don’t know their blocks that are just variants of stone that are different pretty colors and I don’t care to build with them and they just kind of clutter up your inventory and as far as I know there’s like nothing new that requires them in a

Crafting recipe in 1.10 or 1.11 if there is something new that I’m gonna need those blocks you could always let me know although I think they might be like craftable out of granite and quartz and different things like you might be able to make some of those blocks anyway I

Don’t remember so those are couple of the customized terrain settings okay I think I possibly have finally found a cave right over here I went the longest possible way in order to find it and there isn’t coal here great ok so coal it’s very necessary so that we can make

Some torches but it’s about to come dark anyway and yeah without any food I am very likely to die I guess I could try to survive on some zombie flesh which seems like kind of the only likely possibility that I have to get any food right now but with slowness and weakness

It’s gonna be extremely difficult to survive I feel like the experience noise is possibly like higher frequency ting ting ting kind of things I don’t know if I’m making that up I hear them all the time at minecraft bingo but I feel like possibly it was a different noise than I

Was accustomed to all right but we’re gonna try to carve our way down into the cave here a little bit safely trying to leave places where let’s actually get more blocks on the bar and some better box on the bar honestly I guess I can go

Ahead and convert all of those trying to leave some places where I can box things out if I need to but yes with weakness and mining fatigue and slowness I think it will be very difficult to defeat most of the mobs here at the beginning and so I’m

Probably mostly going to attempt to avoid mobs although with the slowness even avoidance is going to be a difficult strategy to put into practice and I may need to kill the zombies for food anyway but let’s see if we can possibly find dungeon and that will be

An opportunity oh I hear a witch and a witch is actually very bad let’s be ready to box things off up there is the witch okay I guess what we’re not gonna see her anymore great all right so I think I’m safe for the moment once we find a dungeon and I

Could get some emeralds then I can show off what happens in terms of being able to kind of buy your way to an improved quality of life and so yeah basically I enjoy a challenge obviously I play Minecraft CTM maps and different things and yeah just in order to make the start

Of this season of exploration and tactics more challenging I came up with this idea because I think it will require me to kind of use a different play style than I’m accustomed to using and make things more challenging and a bit more exciting even if they are a

Little bit slow paced I did enjoy when I did an ultra hardcore series of exploration and tactics a while back I think that was like season five or six or something but the trade-off in doing a season where everything is a giant danger to you does mean that things move

A little bit more slowly alright but I’ve got a few more torches and I’ve got a little bit more coal and so let’s head back into the big cave system that is over here and see if we can manage to find either a dungeon or at least a few

Zombies that I might get some zombie flesh so that I can try to heal back up alright and that is cobblestone that I placed and I am going to trend downwards I think gosh this is a really open cave system which is kind of a double-edged

Sword right now I guess I heard a zombie this way and I thought he might have been this way but apparently he’s not yeah but giant cave system here will make it hopefully very easy to find dungeons because there’s a lot of open spaces and a lot of places that dungeons

Could generate oh boy what is that he just made like a new noise like I think it’s just a zombie but that is a zombie noise that I have not heard before it’s like a villager zombie – villager zombies have a new noise otherwise it just looks like a zombie is he gonna

Drop zombie flesh Oh a monster hunter congratulations hurray Jeff Ryan oh right and I have food glorious food this isn’t that going to be enough food and it let’s do that I’m gonna see if I can kill another one and I presume zombies still have their like zombie telepathy

Kind of thing and so I imagine more zombies might head my way at this point I was starting to say that it is a double-edged sword in terms of hopefully with the big cave system here being able to find dungeons more easily because there’s so much open

Space but it also puts me a really grave risk right here at the start just cuz there’s so many different directions that monsters can try to sneak up on me but I guess actually it almost feels like it is such an open cave system and I guess also the fact that it’s

Nighttime and so monsters are spawning on the surface like we haven’t encountered very many monster spawns and so I haven’t had to avoid too many guys so all in all I’m not unhappy with how it’s gone so far but we’ll just continue to light things up and I’m gonna need to

Continue to remember that in real Minecraft you actually need to spend a bit more time gathering coal in order to keep up with the torches so let me grab through a little bit of this symbol continue interesting the stone pickaxe just went down to yellow I think that is

A change as well I feel like it was not that bright of a yellow color before I felt like it kind of previously as your stone pickaxe was getting worn down it kind of like turned into more of a kind of tan brownish kind of color and so I

Think possibly the durability I wonder maybe if now they’re a little bit brighter green yellow red as a possibility that was something that I was completely unaware of and I am convinced that the little experience ball tinkles are kind of a higher pitch frequency than they were back in

Minecraft 1.9 because I’ve managed to hear them a number of times now as I’ve been digging up coal but haven’t managed to find anything too exciting this way eventually we will get a furnace and so having the iron will be useful to us so

I should pick it up as I find it let me find a new place to explore I see a skeleton over that way and I am not prepared to deal with him just yet so I’m going to turn back and go another way I expect that it’s daytime and the

Surface already once again however since they didn’t see any animals other than rabbits and polar bears oh I heard an Enderman teleporting they probably suggested it’s daytime as well yeah I’m not sure there’s value in going back to the surface because the main reason that would go up there is for food

So I think I’m gonna continue to explore underground and hope to kill a couple more zombies get a little bit more zombie flesh and see if I can survive off of that for the moment it didn’t occur to me quickly enough that if there were zombies on the surface oh boy

There’s creeper on the surface hello if there were zombies on the surface yes they might have dropped zombie flesh out so he burned up in the daytime so let’s definitely grab that and I might be able to use the creeper to help kill the bunny rabbit possibly actually says that

Maybe yeah because I’m gonna have a hard time running from this creeper but if I can get him anywhere kind of near here the bunny seems to be doing a pretty good job of running away from me I believe the creeper will still damage the bunny and the water though actually

I might be able to kill him from here huh I did it did you drop anything I don’t think that bunny dropped anything well that’s very sad where did that creeper go he is over there alright we’re just gonna try to stay away from him but with three pieces of zombie flesh I

Think they’ve changed some things with the food system but I don’t know the fine details let’s see that’s kind of disappointing I thought there was like the super healing when you’re overfed maybe the fact that I have hunger from the zombie flesh kind of negated a bit

Of that hmm well the fact that I managed to kill one rabbit has kind of emboldened me and so let’s see if I can manage to kill another and possibly actually get some other type of good food out of it oh and here’s some more zombie flesh terrific let’s actually go

Ahead and eat one all right still got unlucky and got the hunger once again but every once in a while you get lucky and you don’t get the hunger and that could definitely help me out but yeah the rabbits are just too quick for me right now and so I

Don’t think I have any hope of catching them and let’s see how much of the daytime or the nighttime have I used we still have half of this day I guess let me head in a direction for now I appear to be heading west I’m gonna head west a

Little bit to get over this hill and just see if I happen to spot any other animals that I could eat no sign of any other food animals but there is a big pack of rabbits here and so I might get lucky and have one of them kind of

Stumble in my way actually I forgot about it I can still sprint and on ice hey I got a rabbit hide I didn’t get food sprinting will end up using up some of my food but sprinting on ice even when you have slowness effect is actually rather effective so that could

Be a way that I could try to catch rabbits on the river but if I don’t see any animals over in here I’ll probably head back to the spawn area ooh mushrooms mushrooms are a food that I could use and I don’t believe there are any restrictions on me being able to

Craft mushroom stew so if I can find some red mushrooms yeah then I would actually have some good food to get things started oh and there are some wolves here wolves could be friendly I don’t have any bones but they might help protect me from skeletons I see a fire

Over this way do I see any red mushrooms anywhere well I’ve still haven’t spotted a red mushroom but perhaps I found something even better it’s pigs and even uncooked pigs are gonna be a useful food source and so let’s see how difficult they are to kill with weakness and

Slowness that seems like a couple of chops with the axle and so I will kill these guys and order to have a little bit of food here at the start but this might be where we have to go ahead and finish off the first episode it probably goes without saying

But please no spoilers in the comments I look forward to discovering kind of all of the bits of 1.10 and 1.11 on my own and so yeah we’ll keep things as surprises and as I get a little bit further into the series I’m sure there will be some things that will be

Difficult for me to discover without help and so I’ll start asking for hints a bit later but forgetting things started right now I kind of just have my own survival challenge going that I think things will keep things interesting and difficult here at the start and once I get a little bit

Stronger we can perhaps do some science on polar bears since we saw some polar bears right near our spawn point and I would like to learn more about their behavior but those are things to look forward into in future episodes for now I will just say I hope as always that
