As a fan of the survival game genre I like to go into games with as little knowledge as possible I genuinely have no clue what I’m looking at I find the best experience you can have is by learning on the go o yes a flint knife Oh is the knife for harvesting things I usually make a few small mistakes when I play this way why did I do that and of course the occasional large mistake I wonder what the green bar is I’m hoping it’s not my H I think it Might be my Hunger I got to cook this meat where are the sticks why are there no sticks there’s not a single stick okay playing a game this way can be challenging but I think it makes it all the more rewarding and vintage story does a great job at leading you in the Right direction without telling you exactly what you’re supposed to do next and that’s why I’ve created a list of 10 things I love about vintage story like the early game crafting when you first spawn into vintage story assuming you’re not murdered immediately by a bear like I was I think he’s chill yo yo chill you’ll be quite Limited in terms of what you can actually pick up off the ground some dirt some gravel stones and sticks but luckily that’s all you need to get started because the game has this floating UI that shows you any possible Interaction you can have with a certain item stones for example can be smashed together to create Tools in a process called napping which brings a very 3D Hands-On feel to the crafting system and allows you to live out your inner Caveman with an array of stone tools Foraging the game starts in the spring season with plenty of flowering berry bushes and sprouting vegetables popping up out of the ground this abundance however doesn’t last long as you gobble up every Berry parsnip and onion in the area but I love this mechanic because it forces you to really familiarize Yourself with the surroundings by night three I pretty much knew where every flower herb berry bush and plant was growing around me I was at one with nature right up until that bear showed up in my experience there are three types of normal mobs in this game With each type offering varied levels of risk versus reward you’ve got the innocent peace full mobs the rabbits the chickens the raccoons these ones don’t seem to do any damage but they also don’t provide much meat at all then you’ve got your neutral mobs the bores The Rams and the foxes now these guys deal a lot of damage but they also provide a lot of food and then you’ve got the Bears and the Wolves which if they’re in the area it’s nice to scavenge their kills but they can quickly become a problem where is it It’s right here it’s right here when you put all these mob types together it makes a very competitive ecosystem and especially in the early months of the game I loved having the option between a full day of foraging or a quick but sometimes deadly hunt and then there’s the unnatural mobs those Miserable Souls cursed ones Drifters they come and go lost in grief and rage punished by God okay they’re not quite zombies they’re not quite human they’re like parasitic demons that are really just existing with the sole purpose to murder you but I love that because vintage story does a very good job of Keeping them separate from the Overworld mobs yes they can overpower you yes they can come in waves and yes they can literally just spawn in your base but at least the game gives you little warning signs that it’s going to happen and that warning sign comes in the form of your Sanity meter this tiny blue gear that when you’re too deep in a mine or there’s a rift portal right beside you tells you that there’s going to be a lot of unnatural activity sometimes that gear is really spinning and a lot of things are going to spawn other times You can literally spend the whole night outside with not a single Drifter showing up so so I think the sanity and Drifter mechanic is is very unique and it gives you an opportunity for rest but also makes it a very hardcore survival game the guide book at first glance a Built-in guide book that explains every detail about every block and every game mechanic seems like it would be overwhelming but vintage story does a great job at showcasing these mechanics with a comprehensive yet brief description like a Wikipedia page but straight to the point and I love this Because the game doesn’t tell you what you’re supposed to do next you kind of have to make the best decision based on the available resources around you and having access to the wealth of knowledge that the guide book offers you puts you in a great position for choosing how you Want to live out your adventure food storage the food and vintage story has an expiry date from the minute you pick a berry off a bush or skin an animal the clock starts ticking so unlike other survival games you can’t just stockpile a chest of food it’s going to go bad but This feature makes it feel like a survival game it’s going to be very difficult to spend a whole day mining chopping water foraging if you haven’t prepared your food in advance a feature of the game that you will quickly realize is a necessity but I love this feature because it’s easy enough to Store food but it still has you thinking okay I really need food this is not good which is honestly exactly what I want from a survival game forging and smithing I’m a huge fan of every mechanic in this game but the smithing and metal work really stands out as a Unique feature and as much as I love Minecraft it’s pretty nonsensical the way you slam three iron ingots together and make a pickaxe whereas vintage story has you melting down every alloy pouring it into a mold placing the ingot in the Forge and beating it until it’s the Right shape it might take a lot longer but every step of the process is visually rewarding and I absolutely love how interactive it is building and chiseling I think it’s fair to say that when it comes to survival games my favorite feature is the building mechanics from choosing the perfect Location to slowly evolving your base with different resources and materials I cannot get enough of it and this game is no different the game has a bunch of unique decorations that you can both Loot and craft as well as a crazy block customization tool in the form of the Chisel that basically gives you full freedom to design whatever you want inside of a given block and having that ability to customize nearly every pixel within my base I love it also I can’t stop chiseling and I think I need help it’s just too much fun exploration as I Mentioned earlier with foraging the game very much promotes you to step outside your comfort zone and continue searching for new things say you can’t find Limestone or oak wood you have to travel outside your biome and really take a look but you’ll never get bored cuz vintage story sprinkles in just enough Generated structures like NPC wagons for Traders ancient underground dwellings filled with lore and furniture and the odd hellish pit filled with demon bells and scorpions oh okay what is that what the hell is what is that I’m not vibing with that there have been several times Where I go out looking for seeds and I end up fighting off hor of enemies but I love this in survival games cuz it makes you think hey how am I going to get around that mountain where am I going to find those seeds and overall just makes It feel like you’re actually living in this world and surviving in it and finally I love the overall theme from the moment I loaded into the character customization screen I could tell I was going to love the game the character design is just it’s so lanky and Unsettling I I love it and these worn out pastel colors and and grungy haircut options 10 out of 10 great at first glance vintage story has this this rustic kind of cozy appeal but something feels a little bit off and this is mirrored in the gameplay with the Overworld seeming like a beautiful Paradise that you can just thrive in right up until The Drifters and Rifts start appearing out of nowhere and you don’t know what’s going on but I think it’s the perfect mix of realistic Wilderness survival paired with a healthy amount of Supernatural activity just to keep you on your toes thanks for Watching be sure to like subscribe check out our other wild gameplay videos and series and stay tuned for the next
