EthosLab – Etho’s Modded Minecraft S2 #4: Basic Automation

Hello everybody this is etho and welcome back to the modded minecraft series i’m just sitting down right now in our new kitchen getting ready to enjoy breakfast we’re eating borscht again borscht for breakfast borscht for lunch borscht for supper i i just i can’t take it anymore guys it’s driving me nuts we

Got to get some better food around here soon did you know there’s pancakes in this mod pack we could be eating pancakes for breakfast with maple syrup uh what i want to do to get us started here today we gotta go uh i’ll do a little bit of mining i think

We got to go find some iron and some zinc and stuff i want to get more into the crate mod today and i thought it’d be kind of cool to have like a mine shaft over here maybe eventually we’ll we’ll build it to look nice you know have some gold or tnt on

The outside of it and uh mine carts all that kind of stuff we’ll make it more into a decorative thing later but just for now i’m just gonna dig a hole we found something oh there’s one of those spawners there i want to check this thing out so that’s uh one of the

Red spawners from cork they’re like a one-time use spawner that spawns a bunch of mobs and if you kill them they can give you some really good stuff man you gotta get really close to that don’t you okay we got some game spiders they’re kind of stuck on the slag mites

Oh and now i’m getting wet oh oh somehow he didn’t get me there yeah he dropped a zombie head there you see that so they drop like random stuff too a lot of times you can get oars we just got a bunch of iron i think four iron from that zombie bread okay

You never know what you’re gonna get i want to show some of these mining moments while we still can you know enjoy the early game because uh it won’t be long on this modpack and we’re gonna be mining with tnt or we’re gonna have quarries or giant lasers i don’t know we

Won’t be mining with a pick for very long though i don’t think i actually really wish we had tnt now that i’ve said it it would be so much more fun than mining with a pick uh we gotta find some way of getting gun powder oh what is this

These are slime blocks i’ll take slime block sure yes thank you oh yeah there’s a cave over here okay let’s check this out another one of the spawners okay here we go i’m not sure but i think sometimes they’re creepers but you can get a whole bunch of creepers surrounding you you gotta

Really watch these all right trying to save my arrows oh oh but i can’t be too careful okay oh bone blocks gold ore nice nice uh okay let’s uh let’s eat something real quick here not borscht i’m sick of borscht i’m gonna eat the bread 44 bone blocks from those guys holy smokes

Dude we should have been caving a long time ago you have no idea how much time i wasted uh like hunting skeletons for bones uh in the previous episodes like when we’re growing all those trees i’m starting to think these spawners aren’t even that rare i found another one more bone blocks oh

Snap oh oh he disabled my shield oh that’s not what you want from a skeleton uh that’s the one person you don’t want disabling your shield oh we got a spawner like a real spawner not a corkspawner is that a skelly dude that would be so big if we can get

A skelly spawner we can start making farms uh it is a skelly spawner oh that’s awesome and i don’t think we’re too far from our house even cool and we got a bunch of goodies here as well we got uh slayer crossbow we got a death cat mushroom greatly increases attack and movement

Speed now that sounds really good okay oh yeah look at our sword it’s going wild how long does this last for oh it just ended and then we got a a big cool down on it we can’t just keep spamming it that is a really good item i think i’ll

Actually use that quite often curious helmets 2.5 chance to teleport away when hits so it turns us into an enderman oh and it lowers the artifact cooldown so like stuff like this the cool down is lower uh-huh and a throwing knife schematic so these are cool these are from the tetra mod

You know that tool mod we’ve been using i think you placed them down by your tetra crafting table and then you can make that part i’ll tell you what i think i’m going to make a bunch of ladders and then ladder up here to the surface just so we can

Find this nice and easy oh they’re kind of oh no they’re not 3d they sure look 3d though don’t they yeah check this out we came up over there and our house is just right around the corner here uh-huh so i’m gonna go uh head inside and drop some stuff off start smelting

Up our oars we got yeah i like the way this works so if we click on our tetra crafting table here with our sword inside we look at the iron blade we get a bunch of different options but it doesn’t have the throwing knife option but if we put the schematic near the

Table and then we look we have that throwing knife option available uh-huh so let’s give that a try let’s see what it does oh we need a hammer what did i do with my hammers i put them in my backpack okay not a big deal just

Take him out of there so this will lose the sweeping effect on the sword but we gain cutting ability apparently it becomes throwable we gain a speed increase but less damage one less damage it’s probably not great but i am a ninja right i got to get my fast weapons

Yeah it swings way faster and then if we hold right click we can oh it goes almost in that straight it’s not like an arc oh it does arc a little bit okay it goes a good distance though all right everybody so check it out i’ve been busy

Here crafting away with all that zinc and iron we got from mining and now we have a pretty good amount of uh crate items here to play around with we can start automating some stuff let’s do it okay so with this modpack by the way my goal

Is to have a nice bounce between building and automating and then like exploring and having fun with stuff too right but especially building and automating i think it’s a big mistake to just do one or the other you kind of need to do both and it’s like a tug of war between the

Two like you need to automate things so that you have stuff to build with and then you need to build things so that you have somewhere to put your automations i’m looking at what we should maybe do here and probably just setting up a cobble gen would be super useful i’m noticing like

If we go to the crushing wheel yeah so this is like a big item for the crate mod we can take cobblestone crush it into gravel and then you can crush gravel again into sand flint and clay like those are all super useful things and then it like just kind of keeps

Going here like we take sand crush it into lime sand we can get bone meal that way and i’m sure there’s a million other things but just getting like sand and gravel would be awesome okay so first thing we’re gonna check out here is the water wheel you guys really recommended this

To me as like the main source of power main generator for the crate mod i should use and i think the idea is we just gotta put water around it right is that all we gotta do it’s turning that’s a good sign uh i’m sure i gotta

Position that water a little bit better though let’s do a little check here we can connect the rod up to it then please stop please stop spreading okay let’s try this again so if we put the water in the middle it spreads to the left and to the right

That’s probably not good right uh we’ll find out though let’s just do a speed test there’s a speedometer we can build is it analog or how can i tell so it’s at the green right now i’m assuming green is slow right and purple is fast so what happens if i block

Oh it did speed up i’m pretty sure yeah the bar went up to there now so that’s good so i got to try to figure out how this mod works at like a base level i don’t know if you guys want to see that or if it’s like etho come on we know

This stuff this is beginner boring stuff but i don’t quite know how it works so i’m trying to figure it out here so there’s speed and then there’s stress this is a stressor meter and i’m assuming the faster and harder you work the system the higher the stress goes right

So the water wheel it says it has kinetic stress capacity of small and if we put a drill on it this has a moderate stress impact so i don’t know if that means it can’t turn it or it’s just going to highly stress it or what the deal is here we won’t know

Until we try it and i placed it backwards oh yeah you guys said so if i’m holding shift it affects which way it places so i was holding shift this time i wasn’t and now it went the right way and yeah we got some stress increase did that lower the speed it

Doesn’t really look like it does it so the drill is basically like a block breaker is the idea if i understand things right and if we put a cobble gen in front of it it should uh start breaking things right let’s use dirt because i’m cheap i think this will work right

I hope so oh i made it in the wrong spot guys i’m embarrassed get the lava to flow did i do it right this time yes okay and it’s breaking it and yes it’s cracking very slowly oh my goodness i was hoping for a little bit faster

Than that all right so this cobble generator is a little bit pathetic i’m not quite happy with it right so how do we make it faster i think we got three options either by adding more drills and gobble gems onto the system we could try get a faster generator going

Or the third option i think is to play around with gearing and i can’t put the big gear next to it there but i can put it here i found out so it’s like diagonal but yeah by like connecting a large gear to a small gear

Should make it go faster but with higher stress i think is the idea game’s like what are you crazy you can’t do that okay i’m just going to add an extra rod because i don’t know how to do it with the wrench uh and then we’ll break this one we’ll

Put the small gear here and we should get some crazy speed going here now right much faster much much faster now that’s a good collagen now what did that do to our stress it’s maxed out it’s oh my goodness it’s in the red all right very good so

We got the cobblestone generator figured out for our crushing wheels now how do we actually get the crushing wheels oh we need a 5×5 crafting recipe to craft them apparently and uh they are cheap though they don’t cost a lot of for the ingredients this is easy to get stuff

To make two of them but we’re going to need these mechanical crafters to make that 5×5 recipe there’s no other way of doing it how do you make these well we need brass and we need electron tubes those are the two tricky things these require a bunch of redstone and quartz okay

That means i gotta go back to the nether the brass is another problem we need to somehow uh no not like that we need a mixer with a blaze burner below we combine copper with zinc to make brass okay now the blaze burner is right in our chest over here but it’s empty

We got to go to the nether find a blaze and put him in this blaze burner all right here we go oh and i see the piglens nearby so let’s get our gold boots on this you see that guy over there he’s hunting he’s looking

Now we lost our shovel here last time i want to see if i can recover that or if it’s gone no it is here okay cool cool cool uh we can get courts from these little things sticking out but we can also just mine the quartz

I am not going to mine any gold here though because that will anger the piglens we’ll get a lot of xp doing this as well which is great then we’ll be able to get some bitter enchanting and i brought some iron picks with us just so i don’t waste all the durability

On our only diamond pick there’s more of those mushroom guys down there i kind of want to get this glowstone too man that’s bright why is that so bright that guy’s helping me out that one over there he’s fighting all the other dudes he just died oh he was my hero

No they’re still fighting i don’t know what’s up with these guys double damage quick deflex regeneration he’s got the whole package how deadly is how deadly are you two hearts yeah i think i’m gonna run instead we’re forest that’s good right i wanted that for some reason shroom lights that’s right

Uh okay let’s try to take one of these wither guys they do weather actually oh interesting interesting so the bow shots oh giant like spike galore i’m dead aren’t i uh oh okay we have a little bit of a problem here everybody uh this is a little hard to

Explain but we just had our first crash of the season and it was a bad one i couldn’t get back into the world it got stuck loading nether chunks for some reason or generating nether chunks i’m not sure why uh so i decided let’s just delete the nether

Since we haven’t really done anything here uh and now it’s working fine we’re back in the game but the problem is i actually don’t know where we are you know that uh warp forest we found it wasn’t there when i after i deleted the world so

Yeah we’re kind of stranded also at the moment thankfully i found a portal we might be able to just find a few more pieces of obsidian and finish making this portal and get back through this way because we deleted the one portal we had uh the other option is to just die in

Here and like make a new portal in the overworld get back here sure am lost no what are you oh my goodness get out of here oh that’s a mosquito oh now he’s shooting stuff at me nope nope nope oh oh i’m hearing another one okay we’re

Not going in here no no no huh oh they’re all over the place oh no darn i wanted to go that way too it looks like the easiest route i’m gonna mine that pillar i guess get the obsidian there and then we’ll finish up the portal get out of here

And then re oh no no no oh i blocked myself underneath and that’s how you escape the nether everybody oh same place as when we first came in up above the lava middle of nowhere right so we got to rebuild our bridge no oh man i made it back to wait a second

I’ll be fine no i won’t don’t you do it don’t do it don’t do it don’t do it please no he wept me again oh my goodness okay okay i’m gonna be smart i’m gonna be smart i’m not gonna i’m not gonna try brute force it

Let’s go home we’re gonna go to sleep i’m gonna take our backup gear so we’re going on a archaeological dig here we gotta dig through the lava let’s see if we can find our gravestone there it is i saw it okay we got it okay

I think we’re good to grab it here so let’s hope we don’t lose anything well the items do spill so if you don’t have enough space for everything they’ll just spill on the ground okay that’s good to know uh okay let’s just get our backpack and we’ll throw everything inside there it is

Oh there’s a warp forest over there okay cool oh okay all right so these guys are called warp beetles apparently they’re kind of like those uh bugs in terraria that give you the cyan dye they seem to be friendly right but they they’re kind of weird oh man this place looks awesome

The shaders are doing a lot of work here friends friends forever he has such a cute smile look at this guy and he’s a friendly guy too oh sweet i like this bile it’s it’s incredible how just having a couple more mobs in a biome can give it so much more life

Just two string because that’s all i got oh we got enough we can make a fishing rod and i saw a strider down here so that’s that’s the plan right now for getting around oh hey i don’t know where you came from but i am sure glad to see you

Okay we got him is there a blaze spotter in there i wonder in these pillars there might be because that guy kind of came off the top here yeah that’s some weird looking block isn’t it let’s make a bridge to this i just want to see what it is

Yeah blaze spawner oh dear oh oh oh no very good all right sorry our another trip went super smooth we got exactly what we wanted there we got the blaze burner no problem um so the idea with this guy is i think we can feed him fuel

Yeah he gets he gets inflamed then and then he gets hotter and then you can smell brass with him when he’s when he’s got the fuel now i do know there is a way to speed up this water wheel even more oh what did i get overstressed just like in real life

Okay uh i guess it lost some of its ability because the water is flowing another way now but yeah i think if we put soul sand under this side oh let’s get the let’s get this built back up and then we put water up there the bubble column

Will actually make it go faster than before yeah i think it’s a bit higher oh it did change wait a second no it didn’t it uh so when i take the water away for a moment there’s no water there i think that’s why i went down so i don’t

Think the magma is doing anything so you can either from what i read you can have it in your off hand and then just right click uh it’s doing it and then it’s undoing it uh oh what’s that about i don’t know let’s try it on the ground

Oh i’m doing something wrong it’s not working oh you oh weird oh you gotta hold right quick and then you eat it [Laughter] that might be the greatest animation in this game wow he was not expecting that and it’s broken so one paper will do

Eight so i checked the base and we only had three redstone dust so yeah out looking for more now hollow solids what was that we got a geode one of my favorite things about stardew valley is after you go on a long mining trip you get all the geodes and

Then you get to crack them open afterwards you don’t know what you’re gonna get i don’t know there’s something really fun about that the mystery is it gonna be anything good let’s find out we got a copper nugget okay so next up here we gotta set up a

Few more of these machines we need the millstone we need the mechanical mixer and possibly the press as well and i’m just wondering like what is the way to do that do we make a generator and like a clutch system for every single machine

Or is it better to just try to set up the generator the clutch system and then like have on off switches for connecting a bunch of machines up to that i don’t know let’s mess around with that a bit so like we can have a gearbox

And then like branch off of that right and then have another gearbox and then maybe get a couple more rods and then like another gearbox and however long we need them to be and then like we can start attaching more machines this way right is the idea but i think it’s gonna get

Too much stress for the system uh oh this is a weird looking machine where does it connect to i don’t know i’m guessing we don’t do hmm oh i think it’s a gear change of plans here we’re gonna go for a vertical gearbox just switch it like that put that down

And now cogwheel on top right now it will attach hopefully over stressed uh-huh so i think i figured out what we need here like if we disable the cobble generator then it’ll start running no problem right so i think we would want on off switches for the machines we connect up

To the system and i think we use a clutch to do that right and then let’s just disable this for a second i think we can turn on and off a machine with a lever that way so cobble jan is running right now we turn that on it locks it yeah

Okay and then this one would be free to run but we could have a clutch to this one as well and then turn it on and off with the lever aha that way we don’t over stress the system now this might seem a little strange but we’re gonna go take a walk

Together down the beach and we’re gonna pick some seashells so these seashells are part of the turtle nancy mod and you can cook them and eat them but there’s another thing you can do with them you can make the book for the mod just like you just like that now we open

Up and gives us instructions on how everything works i want to be a turtle master do you want to be a turtle master too of course you do that’s why we’re playing modded minecraft uh but especially i want to be a turtle master so we can

Do all kinds of cool things so there is a recipe for making dried kelp in the turtlemancy mod so that’s gonna be really useful for the create mod because the conveyor belts require tons and tons of the dried kelp right there’s also a way of harvesting kelp with this mod too

So i figured let’s just try to do some of the basics with it today really quickly here now i think there’s a chance when you dig up these shells that you’ll get scoot from from like turtles except it doesn’t require turtles uh we need two of those to make the cauldron

Oh we got one we got one okay we just need one more i guess it comes from sand i thought it had to be the oyster ones oh there we go okay it’s pretty rare we had to dig up like two stacks of sand but we got two scoots two scoots of raisins

In every cauldron uh how do i craft it i don’t know i i do know i just can’t remember i think it’s like that yeah there we go so that’s our turtleman seat cauldron and we got to fill that up with water let’s go put that in our house actually

There’s kind of this free space here i guess we’ll put it there for today okay we’ll fill it up with water now let’s test out one of these recipes throw kelp in and it should convert yeah just like that doesn’t require smelting or anything so that’s super simple now i’m looking

In the book here if we want to get the oh yeah there’s a gunpowder recipe too yeah that’s one of the main reasons i want to get into this pond okay so there is a kelp collector skill use the one against kelp to get it in massive amounts

Now we got to make the wand to do that though the thing is the wand requires a turtle blessing and a pearl pearls are easy to get pearls are just oysters in the the cauldron oh it uh oh okay you get cooked oysters doing that as well i didn’t know that

I thought you had to put them in a smelter but we get a pearl from that too so we just need the turtle blessing now that is going to be a bit tricky because turtles are super rare here’s the thing though when we were going through the nether i found some magmatic

Turtles and we might be able to use those instead of regular turtles i’m not too sure so according to the book we need to bow our head to the turtle and look it in the eyes and if we do that then we might get a blessing please have favor on me

Oh it worked but it’s the wrong kind no oh it’s a curse why why what what did i do to you okay we might not be able to make the wand then because i don’t know how on earth to find a turtle i really was hoping these guys would do

It now he got mad again what about the other one i caught is he gonna be nicer please no okay magnetic turtles are jerks that’s what we’ve learned here can i assure you to turn you into a regular turtle no um i got cinder shell turtles as well in the nether

But i don’t think these convert do they i’m not really sure what these guys are about uh-huh okay so it looks like we need the dried kelp for more than just the conveyor belts that’s how you make conveyor belts you also need it for whatever these things are called

However you craft them there we go andesite funnel aha so these attach onto machines and it like pulls items out i think and then they put it onto a conveyor belt if you have it set up let’s see if it’ll do it just like that though um so we need to mill

Zinc and copper and then combine them together into brass so i think you’re supposed to feed them like kind of somehow well they all went into it okay so if we turn that on what happens not a lot okay yeah so i i have to right click it to

Take the items out so that’s why you want a conveyor setup so it does it automatically let’s see if we can figure out how to do that i think you can just like put the conveyor belt on rods but i think you need to turn the rods right um

Right click there and there yeah there we go now we just need to figure out how to turn that so what let’s just break this we’ll put another gearbox here that should attach oh it’s overstressed no does that mean if i shut this off it’ll go yeah oh it’s turning the wrong

Way though oh man i am for sure really enjoying the crate mod so far though but there’s definitely like a lot of tricks and nuance to it that’s gonna take me a while to figure out i think um can i i’m gonna use this uh lever gear shifts that we can control

There we go oh boy this is a there’s a messy system we got going on here i’m just laying stuff out first by the way uh just to get a feel for the mod and then later i’ll try to build like nice actual structures for our machines but i just don’t know

Enough right now to do that so looking at this i think the main problem with our system right now is this is just over stressed right i got greedy with the double conversion big to small big to small to get the super speed uh what i should do take out these

And then just use a conveyor belt that allows you to transfer power and like a weird diagonal or whatever you want here now it’s going to be slower but the stress is way lower so now we can attach more things to our system without it

Freaking out on us very good we got our copper and we got our zinc now let’s try out the mixer so it looks like it has gears on the sides as well so i think we’re gonna have to cogwheel vertically like that and then put the mixer next to it

And i’ve lost it already there we go okay so if we turn that it is spinning good good so it needs a basin i don’t know if it goes there no it looks like it goes a block lower recipe filter okay so if we want to

Filter out certain things we can do that too that’s cool and i think the blaze burner goes below the basin and now somehow we have to insert the stuff probably with a conveyor belt right oh you can just throw it in what are you waiting for you want fuel

I’ll give you a few oh i got plenty of jungle wood lighter up oh it is going look at that probably shouldn’t have done such a big mix to to try it oh it did work or i got some brass in there at least okay now i can just right click it out

Oh yeah look at that 64 brass now i know i can uh smelt it with the crate mod as well but i’m just gonna take the easy way out just for today we’ll use the furnace next up we gotta take our brass ingots and then press them on the mechanical press overstressed really

Oh so this yeah i did see this one’s like uh way higher stress level right it’s high yeah aha so it doesn’t even work with a single upgrade so that means we got to go at like at speed here and then it’ll probably work but i still got a conveyor yeah

Conveyor on there i’m sure it should be fine now yeah it seems okay now so for most of these machines it doesn’t look like you actually need to automate it like you can fully automate things but like if you’re just starting out pretty sure ah i stole it it tried though

I throw a full stack there what happens still does it one at a time i think yeah it’s still going so we squish those down we get uh flattened pieces and then we should have everything we need for the mechanical uh crafters here i made the electron tubes i think already

Yeah we got those over here well i think we got it all together now man i thought this was gonna be an easy craft at the the start of the episode there was a lot to it though wasn’t there um but now we can make our mechanical crafters all 21 of them

Two three four five six seven uh looks like we got an extra that’s fine that’s fine we’ll just leave that there for now um so what we got to do is set it up in the shape of the thing we want to craft okay so there’s our grid

I think we got to power these uh oh those are gears on the side aren’t they okay so i’m gonna have to do a little adjusting here but it was stone in the middle then planks and then andesite all around all right i think we got a couple

Problems here still even if we put in this last and andesite i don’t think it’s gonna craft no so it’s overstressed we can see that yes like always but i think we also have to move these arrows so that they point to some sort of exit

Uh let’s put those there on the side we’ll go to the middle and we’ll exit out the bottom how about that so all these ingredients should combine together to this one here and then eject out the bottom now i did to remove all the like speed upgrades on this thing and it still

Doesn’t have enough power to to power this thing right so i think we got to go uh the opposite little geared to big gear to get this to work so let’s do some adjusting okay so we got to connect from there to there this might be a little

Bit goofy but we’re gonna go a little geared to big gear to get extra torque and we’ll just put another little gear here oh no we won’t place it against the torch okay so i think that will do it let’s power on the clutch is it overstressed really

Little gear big gear little gear big gear low gear big gear low gear big gear and then we’ll just throw in two more gears here oh i think it’s doing it it is oh man okay it’s gonna be really slow but it is crafting it’s happening oh my goodness the ingredients are

Fusing together very very slowly so you can see why you would maybe want to like spend a lot of time making like really cool systems like fast systems lots of generators like making sure you get all your gearing nice and efficient just so everything runs quickly and smoothly um

This is like a more extreme recipe though for sure and down they go and then they should all join together at the very last step here that’s so cool isn’t is it amazing what like they’re doing with modded minecraft these days i think it’s super cool you got actual animations and

You can see stuff coming together and then uh what’s it gonna do here i think they’ll join yeah they’re compressing into the item there it is and then i think it should shoot it out the bottom or i might just have to take it out of there

Oh it did i missed it okay there it goes we got the crushing wheels oh my goodness look at him guys look at him oh boy okay so i’m having a bit of trouble with our world today it seems i tried leaving our island oh here it comes giant like spike again

So it unfreezes but now it’s like my game’s messed up oh and i don’t know what’s causing it it’s a big problem because now like if i try to do anything the game’s like frozen yeah we can’t even get a tick rate a tps anymore forged tps so uh

Yeah i’ve been trying to leave the island to go find a feather for the comment of the day that’s not gonna happen i’m gonna have to spend a bunch of time figuring out what’s doing this i did upgrade a few things since last episode and i’m sure one of those is causing it

Like i can’t get out of the boat i can’t sleep the game is crashed basically uh the joys of making your own mod pack when you don’t really know what you’re doing and you guys are all wondering like etho why didn’t you make the mod pack for us too

You guys think i know what i’m doing here come on oh my goodness uh hopefully i’ll get it fixed for the next one guys uh but until then i think that’ll do it for today hope you enjoyed the episode and take care have a good day
