Everything About Raiding Ancient Cities & Wardens in Minecraft

Deep dark biome has an ancient city in it so for example we have this insanely large deep dark cave here that is at the right level for an ancient city it is an absolutely insane Cavern full of lava lake skulk sensors shriekers and everything else but there is just no

Ancient city to be found the reason why is although this area is valid to have the deep dark it is not valid to have the ancient city so first of all where does the deep dark biome generate well the deep dark can be in basically any

Area of low erosion that more or less means terrain that is at a really high Y level so for instance right here is some deep dark but over here it converts into more standard caves and if we go up above we can actually see the exact

Reason why this area is inside of the ocean for an ancient city to generate it needs to be an area of low erosion and also be a mountain biome although there is one caveat to this I’ll talk about in a second but you can see now that we’re

Underneath this massive Mountain if we go deep underground not only does the deep dark tend to go a lot higher up but as well as that if we look around for a minute here is actually an ancient city right underneath now of course there’s a lot of different Mountain biomes in

Minecraft so it’d be something like let’s say the jagged Peak Stony Peaks Frozen Peaks Grove or snowy slopes but the only biome that’s not a mountain that the ancient city can generate underneath and that is if you have generate a badlands Mountain that is insanely tall but either way going

Underneath the super tall Mesa biome mountain with the low erosion which means of course things start out sharp and are slowly worn down and you can see right here we have this ancient city actually with a drip Stone caves intersecting it but either way another good place to look for the ancient

Cities can be in large Mesa or Badlands biomes and I would actually suggest planning on reading several ancient cities at once as they tend to be incredibly common if you’re in an area where they can success fully be so for instance we have this ancient city here

And right through this little bit of cave we have an entire other ancient city that is just generating right here as well and in fact from this second ancient city if we go through the Rocks just a little bit to this direction you can see there is a third ancient city I

Don’t know about you but a structure that looks like this is fairly difficult to raid so how do you even navigate the ancient city find out where the loot is and go from there well basically what you want to do is bring with you these

Items first of all on a light Trend some fireworks the reason why is fairly simple which is the ancient cities are super big and if you’re flying around with your electorate it’s usually fairly easy to avoid setting off any shriekers but then you can actually travel around this ancient city also it’s obviously

The deep dark so it’s almost impossible to see anything here mean to lighten things up a bit we could use torches but the best idea is to use potions of night vision as you can see here it’s a complete night and day difference as literally it goes from an almost

Impossible to see structure to everything being fully visible just be aware if you set off one of the shriekers and you get the darkness effect during the duration the night vision effect will not help the first step when navigating the ancient city is a lot more important than you would

Think and that is to Mark out the entrance to it and the reason why is that sometimes you have to escape from the ancient city really quickly but also because the structure is so large it’s oftentimes fairly hard to see where the entrance actually is and so by making

Some sort of large structure it doesn’t even really matter just something you can kind of see then when you’re flying through the ancient city you won’t miss where the entrance is because you can look around and see there’s an obvious marker but either way once you have done

That let’s take a look at the ancient city it’s basically split into three different parts there is the central structure and we can kind of take a good look at that from here we have the central portal and around that there are two walls there is the inner wall That’s

Sort of a greater percentage of wool and there is the outer wall which has the walkway be wool but the actual wall itself is not made out of wool and these surround the sort of portal-like structure in the the center of it there’s basically No Loot inside of here

The closest thing to loot you can get is sometimes there’ll be a single chest here with a standard Golden Apple now at every single one of the central portal structures in the ancient cities underneath them is this secret Redstone Room generally the room is activated by eating the enchanted golden apple in the

Chest that’s above but that’s not always there and basically what this room has in it is all kinds of different redstone contraptions from things like this target block where if you hit it correctly it’ll turn on this light and other things like a way of showing that

Lecterns can cause a redstone signal and this fairly complicated bit of redstone here which causes the main door to open and close we even have this right here which is showing the fact that Redstone signals can go through solid blocks but not through glass blocks and overall just some other strange little mechanics

Around here to try and make this area a bit more interesting kind of cool that mojing added a way that players can naturally learn Redstone by literally just looking around at generated structures and I would suggest if you can’t and find the entrance to always dig down into the center of those portal

Structures the sort of area beneath them so you can find yourself underneath there that crazy Redstone Room next there is the walkways and this is what makes up most of the ancient city sort of these weird Pathways that go around it these are kind of a mixture of wool

And deep slate blocks as well as dark oak wood and some pillars and other decorations there’s also this sort of tube that’s like the main entrance of the ancient city the only part of the ancient city that really has loot is these side structures so off of the main walkways there’s these certain

Structures like let’s say a defense tower over here a broken section of what looks like maybe a fortress this sort of strange looking Temple area there’s also the strange pool room which includes over here like a small hot tub and also a larger pool and inside these rooms we

Also have some treasure chests but there’s also what I would say is the most common side structure in the ancient city and that is these small little ruins that quite frequently generate around these also have one loot chest inside of them and are made up of of mostly Cobble deep slate and are

Taken over by a lot of the skulk blocks there are a couple other types of structures that can generate around in the ancient cities but these ones aren’t really loot structures actually something interesting is that every single loot chest in the ancient city has the exact same loot table for it

Which means let’s say if you find a loot chest in this little piece of rubble here or to loot chests in this strange sort of Temple looking area the chance of getting different things in these is going to be the exact same however there are also some other structures in the

Ancient city that aren’t really loot based one of them is the ice rooms and these are kind of funny because you have this strange little ice box there’s also these warning dings right here when you step over this there’s also this pressure plate that opens up the

Entrance to this ice box room now of course this is supposed to be some sort of an ancient refrigerator I’m sure you’ll notice here we have packed ice standard ice and blue ice that generates and there’s always this one chest in here which has a variety of food as well

As snowballs so it’s kind of a cool little Easter egg of having like a medieval form of storing food cold and if you did need some food you could always grab it out of this chest and of course there’s also the abandoned campsite which sort of looks like a wool

Storage area there’s obviously heavy lore in the generation of the ancient city that the pillagers built this but either way if we break into this the reason why this is a campsite and not a pile of wool storages if you notice here we have some unlit campfires that

Generate around here which of course are meant to represent the fact that this was probably a tent that caved in now that you know how to navigate the ancient city and see what can generate in it how do you read the ancient city without let’s say setting off the

Shriekers and summoning in some wardens by just trying to get some loot of course you’re gonna want the light for a night vision potions that you would want for just navigating it but we also need some additional things like a decent amount of wool I would say at least two

Stocks but really the more the better depending on how many ancient cities you’re raiding if you want a really good supply of wool I have a microwool farm design and I’ll make sure to have an icard on the screen to the video that talks about that also a decent hoe is a

Good idea because you can mind the scope really quickly then and as well as add an ax to break the chests if you can as well some shears are good for breaking wool and if you’re insanely rich in late game you may as well enchant your shares

With efficiency 5 because then you can literally instantly mine the wool but anyway once we have these things how do you raid the ancient city well something good to be aware of is that the only danger of the ancient city is the shriekers that’s because the deep dark

Biome can’t actually generate in any single mobs except for the warden and the wardens only generate when you disturb the skulk shriekers and so if no skulk shriekers are Disturbed or not enough to summon in that Warden then we’re completely fine every time you disturb a Shrieker it goes up one

Warning level but it goes down a warning level every 10 minutes without anyone’s being disturbed and if it goes to warning level 4 then a warden will summon every single time a Shrieker is Disturbed which can eventually lead into a crazy dust spiral and so the trick is

We need to deal with and get rid of those shriekers or at least completely avoid them but if you’re just raiding these and getting out there’s no point of having a long-term solution so what I would suggest doing is building around with the wool using it to let you move

Again the more wool the better so it’s easier then you want to go up to the chest that you need to raid and basically surround that in wall blocks hopefully blocking every angle where a sensor could pick up that signal and take out your ax and break the chest as

You saw right there we were able to do that fully stealth without any of these sensors being able to pick it up and then sending that signal wirelessly to the shriekers and that’s the trick you never want to look in the chest just break the chest and take the loot out

Then you’ll also never double check a chest once you have rated one then just head on to the next one being aware though because if you’re not careful you’ll set one off if you do set off a Shrieker just run up to it and break it as quickly as possible because the

Damage is already done now right here we kind of have a conundrum there’s a Shrieker next to a cat list next to a sensor and it’s also right next to the loot chest so how do we disable this in a way that we don’t have our warning

Level go up the first step is to fully surround that as much as we can in Wool but it doesn’t help us from the right direction so we need to do is actually destroy the Shrieker itself we just have to be careful that there’s no other shriekers nearby that could be alerted

So to make sure there’s the lowest chance of that possible we’re going to surround the sensor and wool then we’re going to break this one Shrieker and hope that doesn’t go to another sensor that goes to another Shrieker and it didn’t so now we’re safe we can break

That we’ve disarmed this correctly we can collect our wool break open the chest and get all of our items there as well that’s another thing I would suggest bringing is some shulker boxes you just want to go to a corner of the ancient city where there’s absolutely no

Shriekers put that down and fill it up with all the loot items you’ve got that you don’t need to keep on you and then you can fill those up and it’s also easier too because if you do die there’s a lot less things to pick up now let’s

Say we’ve rated most of the chests in this area we can actually fly to the next area just being careful you can still set off the shriekers with your fireworks so let’s say we see a chest down here we’re gonna try and land on top of the carpet that’s because if

You’re on carpet or if you’re on wool and you land on there even jump on there no such signals are sent and of course right here there’s actually no shriekers or sensors we could even open this up and break it but again it’s good to remember when you’re going around the

Ancient city the only real treasure is on the side of that main road and so for instance right here we sometimes come upon super large and hard to rage structures like let’s say this one right here lucky enough I don’t actually see any shriekers but that doesn’t mean

There aren’t any there could easily be some around the outside but if an area doesn’t have any shriekers again we can just easily go through there breaking the chests here’s how to use the wool correctly to disable these shriekers think of it as a sound barrier it’ll

Stop any signals from going through it and so because of that let’s say right here it shouldn’t be that difficult to fully surround these streakers at least surrounded enough that no signals can get to them and obviously we’re not always 100 sure of this but right here

Should be enough we’ll find out let’s break this chest you can see some of the sensors over here were alerted but they weren’t able to get that signal sent to the shriekers there’s also two ways of disabling the shriekers the first one is to surround the them and wool fully and

You can technically even do this from literally every single side although you have to be careful or you can definitely make them be triggered but if they’re fully surrounded like that you can notice we have absolutely no issue we can go all the way around here no

Signals can be sent into there the other way of disabling it is simply breaking it and I’d always suggest breaking it with silk touch just because it’s kind of cool that way to have the shriekers there is an absolutely insane amount of wool that generates inside the ancient

City so if you want Stacks and stacks of this in dark gray and blue then feel free to do that a lot of people forget this but I’m hoping you won’t next time you read the ancient city and that is to grab the skeleton skulls now they

Generate in two places mainly the first one is when you find a structure that looks something like this and of course there’s generally two chests here and here I’ve just grabbed them already in this little area over here which is like a small area you can look over at

There’s always a skeleton skull that’s hiding back here next to some candles so I would suggest grabbing that as that’s the only way to get skeleton schools without having to get charged creepers also sometimes on random pillars there can be a skeleton skull sitting on those

As well one of the main pillars but of sort of these side ones and finally most players don’t tend to have a beeswax Farm set up so getting candles can be difficult and so I would suggest going around the ancient city grabbing all the candles but now finally for what’s

Probably the most important question what do you do if a warden summons in well as I said earlier you do have quite a few chances to let a warden summon into the game but now we’re at warning level 2 because that Shrieker has gone off twice and you’ll notice the more

Times it goes off the sound gets louder and louder the first trick to deal with the warden is to actually have your spawn point be set somewhere in the ancient city preferably next to your exit so that basically if you do die you can come back here and grab your items

As it’s fairly common to die in the ancient city and we now heard a small sound there which means the next time we set off one of these shriekers there’s going to be a warden that summons in and I’ll show you the first and easiest way

To stop a warden alright award is gonna summon somewhere let’s hope we get lucky where the warden summons in and we have not unfortunately what we want to do in this scenario is basically to literally run away there’s no point of trying to crouch running is 100 the best idea well

The warden will get very angry running is 100 best because the Warren just isn’t going to be able to get fully angry in time as you can get super far away now once you get to a certain distance try to block yourself off so the warden can’t go any further and you

Need to get at least 20 blocks away from the warden now why 20 blocks from the warden well it’s fairly simple the warden has a Sonic charge that it can use if we look around we can see these wardens are sort of getting close to us but not really that close they’ll

Actually despawn fairly quickly if they’re not sent any signals now there’s two attacks we have to be aware of with the warden the first one it’ll just hit us with its arms like an iron golem so let’s say it gets mad at us and it hits us it’s basically an instant kill just

Like that the second one’s a bit more nuanced let’s say this Warden tries coming down to get us and we can actually kind of get it mad by hitting it but what if we just pillar up a couple blocks how’s this Warden going to get to us we can just hit it the

Gordon’s thought of a plan for that that’s because if you’re within 20 blocks of the word vertically it can do a special attack like this a sonically Charged shriek we want to try and avoid this also well here’s the good news both the warden and its sonically charred

Shriek it’s honestly fairly terrible and I’ll tell you why basically the reason is that it only has a range of 20 blocks another 20 blocks is fairly decent all we really have to do if the word nismad is just go a decent distance away from

It well of course 20 blocks away from it and once we are that far away it can’t hit us anymore so let’s say up here we’re over 20 blocks away from that Warden it’s now just gonna get mad and it can’t hit us in fact this is how you

Kill the warden all we have to do from up here is simply let our bow be drawn back and hit it with a power 5 Bow and you could use spectral arrows if you want or in Bedrock Edition standard arrows and with this kind of damage you

Can hit it from afar and kill it pretty quick you could even use grip Stone and make it sort of fall from the roof and hit the word in that way all so however killing the warden isn’t really the point as it takes a lot of time it’s

Much better just to let it despawn naturally which is basically if it receives no signals it’ll then slowly calm down and once it’s calmed down it’ll despawn in basically just a minute also there’s only one piece of loot the word and drops and that’s a singular catalyst so it’s not really worthwhile

But let’s look into some other methods that we can deal with the warden if it does happen to summon in we’re going to bother this Shrieker till it summons an awarding to show you my favorite method and that’s kind of an insulting method to the word which I like quite a bit

Once it summons into the game literally go right up to it and dig it into the ground like this and now it’s dropped literally all you have to do is just slowly walk your way away that sonically charred Street can only go 15 blocks horizontally and 20 blocks vertically so

Once we’re 20 blocks away that Warden is simply trapped in this little box and so that’s 100 the best way of dealing with this another thing you can do is build a word and distracting device as soon as you’re sure the warden will spawn place down a trap Thor and two skulls sensors

And let that draft door be eternally turned on and off like it is right now and slowly Crouch away from that and you’ll notice what happens is the warden is fully distracted by it in fact so much so we can now Run and Jump Around

It as long as our hitbox does not touch the hitbox of the word and we’re completely fine however you can tell if you’re in danger with the word entrapped like this however it’s not a good permanent solution as with a little distraction device like this this Warden will literally never despawn however

Let’s say we do run into the warden we can now tell it’s trying to go after us because it’ll start sniffing so if it does the sniffing motion like this it’s still trying to track you and if it starts doing that then definitely beware there is another type of these

Distraction devices we can build to and that one is two observers facing into a trap door so either one of these distraction devices work as you can see the warden is very excited by this device and this device here anyway I hope you enjoyed that ancient city and
