Minecraft multiplayer is about to change forever with the announcement of a new global ban system being added to the game according to mojang the intentions were to ban players for violating the minecraft community standards however a lack of clarity on what is against community standards has caused a lot of Anger and anxiety across the minecraft community even a quick post on my channel showed a largely negative attitude towards the changes but before we go into the issues let’s make some clarifications first of all most people can agree that there are good intentions behind the community standards for example players should definitely be Banned if they do anything illegal during online play illegal misconduct is a severe violation and should be addressed appropriately the main focus of this video will be to critique the banning of players who commit small violations such as swearing and we will also critique the potential for false Reporting and bans finally we should acknowledge that this recent update may in fact have been influenced by microsoft and that accountability for this global system is likely not on mojang alone now that we have covered these points let’s talk about the concerns now minecraft multiplayer has largely received no major changes for Over 10 years and in over a decade of servers being managed by other players things have been relatively fine many people have worked to develop automatic chat moderation features that server owners can implement on their own free will each minecraft server had its own set of rules some of which condone the Use of profanity depending on the players that the server is appealing to some servers appeal to adult players for example here is a server called bad wolf mc which actually requires players to provide a proof of being over 18 before being able to interact on the server the server literally prides itself in Providing adult minecraft players a mature space to play the game however the introduction of a global band system which allows players to report the use of swearing creates a clash between mojang and minecraft servers of this nature furthermore many people are not happy with the idea of their private White-listed servers falling under a global moderation system if you play a private server with only close friends being allowed access the content of conversations conducted on that server should only be moderated for illegal activity and not for things like spam or swearing in the chat people shouldn’t be Banned from playing minecraft for minor chat violations in a private space but unfortunately minecraft bedrock players have already had to deal with this system since november 2020. i found one example of a person who i believe was falsely banned from minecraft bedrock edition this post was made on Microsoft’s website and i wanted to include this because it highlights the problems with the global ban system so well and i’m going to read it out for you my microsoft account called zeus got banned from minecraft a few minutes ago i can’t imagine the pain and i swear This is a bug i haven’t played minecraft for two days and when i opened minecraft i saw this i’m not really sure if this is a bug or not because this doesn’t happen on my other accounts zeus is my main account and i had a good reputation With minecraft players i did read the article that the ban is permanent and you cannot remove it or negotiate with it whatsoever if i got banned on purpose then there’s gotta be a bad reason i cannot contact mojang support and i’m crying right now because i’ve been playing with this microsoft account on Minecraft my whole life i really hope my account got mistaken for a ban or my account is just glitched i hope someone from minecraft or a developer or someone will tell me how do i fix this or if there’s a pending bug that is going to Be fixed soon i will do anything to get my account back this is quite a saddening story and reading the comments we see many people claiming this same issue of being falsely banned without reason and without any means to appeal the ban if you play on xbox then a permanent bear Not only removes you from multiplayer and realms but it also bans you from playing on single player whether or not the example i gave are true claims of false bans occurring the potential for them occurring is the reason why people are terrified of this global banned System if in the past couple years this system has resulted in false bans on bedrock edition then obviously java players would be afraid to have this feature added to their game okay it’s been a few days later and two articles were posted by mojang to provide more clarity surrounding the chat reporting Feature this was to be expected given the negative outcry that the community had so let’s go over the new information that we received firstly we understand that chat reporting no longer covers profanity as well as other report categories we also understand that abusing the chat reporting system is not Tolerated and repercussions can be taken on accounts that spam reports or send false reports to get players banned and look these are steps in the right direction but at the end of the day it is up to a manual moderation team to determine whether or not a report is False and with a game like minecraft which has a massive player base i still think it’s unlikely that manual moderation will succeed with 100 accuracy we have been given assurances which is something i fully support and based on the updated report categories we can assume that profanity will not be A reason to be banned from minecraft on java however bedrock edition still has people being banned for profanity so honestly i don’t know what to believe we are still yet to see this chat reporting feature and the global ban system in action on java edition i still believe That multiplayer wide bands are an excessive punishment compared to the 10 years of minecraft multiplayer where if you violated server rules you’d only be banned from that one server the appeal system would also need assurances to resolve issues in a timely manner if you get falsely banned for three days but The appeal process takes longer than the duration of your ban then what’s even the point this of course needs to be seen in action and we cannot critique it as of right now as far as i’m aware this global ban system has good intentions there is a definite need for ensuring That minecraft players conduct themselves within the rules of law but enforcing family-friendly policy on both the bedrock and java communities was a step too far a lot of controversy was spurred on by a lack of communication by mojang but as of making this video we finally received some new information Whether this information was enough is up to the community to decide some players will justifiably have no confidence in playing minecraft on any future updates even after being given this extra information after what i’ve seen i trust that minecraft moderators will do the best they can to ensure a Functioning system but systems are known to have vulnerabilities so i also understand why players are so terrified of this upcoming feature so let me know what you think about this situation in the comments let me know if you think this upcoming feature still needs changes or whether you think the system Is good for the community or not my name is fizzy and thank you for watching Video Information
