playing for 15 years in 2010 when it was still in its Alpha stage I’ve been playing Minecraft for like 11 years now over 10 years now since the very beginning I’ve been playing with like more people say or they’ve been playing Minecraft longer than they have to or have been survival and Adventure I knew I had to have the game how would you describe your way of playing Minecraft literally just trying to blow people’s minds I went from building the entire universe in Minecraft guy teaching an ape how to play Minecraft KY the Bobo the dude is a legend I like to think of each world as its own specific theme and really run with that theme throughout the builds and put a lot of oh that’s like 360 area that’s my 360 area right there the ne into a beautiful ocean Oasis and even an ancient city into a fantasy Kingdom that’s cool my complete chaotic mind of imagination Chester with very strong legs Chester I don’t know who Chester is but he does have very skinny legs from co-creating UHC making Steve versus Steve coming up with a new caving game joining the hermitcraft server and using maps to create my own trading card game all within Minecraft itself what does Minecraft mean to you to me Minecraft means Limitless possibilities anyone can build and there are very few limitations on what you can be Limitless it can be very simple or very complex this video like anything is truly possible in this game we’ve created awesome structures mini games within the game and experiences for everyone to enjoy but the best memories are the ones where some friends and I are just hanging around having a good time being able to play alongside so many others from across the world has been such an incredible experience to play character make us feel Brave stoic and maybe even a little bit evil that was a big ass dog I just had to wait I literally took a second I’m like wait a minute that’s a big doggo like look at the size of them and also I am very far away from the mic yes feel Brave stoic and maybe even a little bit evil Minecraft lets us live as watch a green swear compilation maybe story after Story I guess you could say pun intended the game helps you build longlasting friendships I think Minecraft is yours the adventure is whatever you choose for it to be so get out there at least a milkshake you never know what you’re going to learn look at that wow oh I see an agree when I first got this opportunity I was like completely surprised I was taken back I have like a Discord Community we made a a Discord Community oh god of graphic designers on This Server graphic designers are really good at Minecraft they’re really really quite good at building things Minecraft ship your world Elliot take one so using Minecraft as sort of an inspiration for the project I had to figure out how to unitize the world into cubes what you mean the real world maybe inventing some new tools so I almost had to figure out how to translate the rules of the game and then I could actually start deciding I wanted to do something outdoors and garden sort of seemed appropriate because wasn’t a full structure and it was you could kind of skap it as you go I had some ideas like what I wanted I was kind of thinking like design a poster in the game and then kind of recreate it in real life godamn Jesus CH oh the okay once I heard there were a bunch of other artists involved I was kind of thinking like okay I’m the graphic designer of the project I must make logo like everyone’s going to make beautiful paintings and stuff and I’ll be the contrasting one who does like the logos and stuff I decided to set up a projector and a sheet inside the dorm room and play Minecraft from there I sort of thought about what I usually do which is build my own house house tour and I started building feel like for a lot of built my own little studio um like going to college and stuff like that or in the dorm and they can’t like afford like a massive TV for get a projector I was just I mean not even insiration from M together eventually L me TOA one little Mosaic like that was the perfect representation of a pixel of Minecraft no oh yeah see it all started with finding you and then there was this Hall in the center of the town there was a house just in that Hall which was this house right here and there was a waterfall going to the door of the house and a villager was just like slowly bumping up against the water and I saw it and I was like I have to help and I blocked the waterfall and the Villager goes straight into the house I go into the house and I realized the Villager had a child immediately thought how long has this kid been waiting there for they start jumping bed God that’s traumatizing what the hell I decided to move in with them so I started like helping them out I started mining for them renovating the house a bit the kid then grows up in front of my eyes gets a job and then I kind of just felt so complete that I couldn’t move on and I had this whole story ready so I think it’s time that we stop planning what the hell so the process started with the idea into a bird pie paper so first I welded up this giant 120 lb machine first way I did it was almost like a wine press it worked pretty well but you know you’re really having to twist it and as you’re twisting the whole machine everything wants to lift up so then I put put on these two car jacks and now I can put like you know 4,000 lb of pressure straight down I developed a steel box with a hinge so I could just fold it close it drop a pen in pound in the dirt pop it open and be good to go in real life CU of this oh it’s that skateboard oh that’s kind of sick there’s a skate park near me oh imagine rocking up a bloody skateboard of Minecraft think in terms of a graphic design that every villager is a client of some sort what if I made some branding for these villages in this small little house to drive some business down towards this underground part look how excited the Villager is for hearing about this brand identity I finally have a bit of that is a mad comment but okay in my dream what studio this is my reference oh that’s SI be a lot of fun to paint all right let’s get into it yo be who who pain mft is seriously ridiculous but ridiculously serious and so we’ve kind of that I’ve never taught spray paint in Minecraft that’s an idea I to parts of it being absolutely ridiculous but in no way does that supered the L I honestly will tell you if I spray paint Minecraft I’ll take a picture and I’ll put it in Minecraft I was like wow you can be good at this game without being good at the game you can do it your way and so it felt more like something like art than it did like sport when you’re about to take action you don’t need to have everything completely clear in front of you you just want to express and to explore what is going on like in Minecraft when you step into the game and this new world it wasn’t clear for me at the beginning no you don’t want everything clear otherwise it’s not interesting anymore no true oh the skateboard back it’s quite hard for you now just play a different way [Music] just mix up or what I highly recommend is if you lose interest in mcraft went away I didn’t play Minecraft I feel like I’m not too serious real life ESP content that I make even with the channel I liter decided have that different side of myself put into that p as well I think information from creative medium itself like Minecraft like being so what I did was if you can’t get like have fun with Minecraft I decided to binge record a bunch of Minecraft videos and I up started uploading like a little bit less so at this stage it was like three videos huge part of my life because it’s a game that I play a lot more than what I do now what I did was I think it was like two videos a week or three videos a week and I did it for month so that’s only 9 or 12 videos which isn’t actually hard so if you like I just decided one day I’ll just record so many stuff and then I just wow wow and I was set and I just went off and I did oh that that cool that’s actually didn’t play Minecraft for a month and I couldn’t get to the end of the month I had to it was like two two and a half weeks like at the yeah two and a half weeks um I think it was about 19 days I had to play Minecraft by oh you going see no it’s like you need a break from everything and then if honestly it’s a lot of things just take a little break if you’re overdoing stuff just take a little break come back to it when you want to and then sometimes you’ll be just drawn even more when you do and doing nothing and hoping that the spark will just kind of come and it was really nice kind of like diving into the world playing something that set back from gaming in the past month come just probably will beating I love streaming so much so it’s kind of hard for me but I also want to have good time with my mates what you want to do with it we all started from the same place and then it ended up so different all different directions let’s your let yourself be inspired from something new don’t be close because you never know if you follow your intuition if you follow this creative person inside of you you ended up in a in a pretty magical place I guess that’s a bit excessive but [Music] okay that was cool see that video was 10 minutes can make a bridge in this game uh when I met notch in 2009 I just tried out Minecraft for like a couple of minutes and I was like what is this like super super low pixel density game so bright a don’t worry don’t worry dude Minecraft I’ve started playing the game in 2010 and pretty quickly discovered I think that no I didn’t play this that wants to be moded and it was didn’t play it lot of our employees the first couple years were modders too yeah I when I was interviewed to start at Mojang the game had sold around 300,000 copies or something I actually started was at 700,000 copies and that was in December 2010 uh and just months later uh we we celebrated like the first million salt oh God uh oh God I was like why you look so bad like what is this video it’s bizarre I love that this role playing Fantasy games well the the thing that comes to mind for me was actually the here’s a cool idea I feed you get the egg you hatch the egg it’s red it’s an albino blackag it turned red we’re mixing and matching things and see like what push we now you can’t kill it it’s a p it it was just too complicated uh so so that’s why we ended up with a push system which is more or less the same today it’s I I know people would still say it’s fairly complicated but it was way less complicated than what what I was trying to do and it was introduced with the first official release of the game right and Las Vegas first M I wish I went good old mine con how old was I ever mine con my first question was like why is it oh yeah it was in Vegas which notoriously is not like the place you take a it was like every everyone was taken every person who wanted to come for me I got to see like how much people loved Minecraft all place like an overwhelming amount of like from the tiniest like little kid with a sword and a helmet to adults who I had met online after we did the opening ceremony and then people people were meant to move to the first session of the day everyone this it’s a lot of young people they’re running they’re like trampling each other on the escalators and this this company they’ve never ever seen anything like it and they didn’t even know how to respond it really was like a very special thing and it was this launch of the game going from beta to 1.0 it was fun that we had this whole plan that we have this switch on on stage and Notch was just going to how much R should I have for my dedicated Silver Stage they were going live with it yeah so you know it was it wasn’t high-tech at all it was more like all right listen for the listen for the cheer dedicated wh should I have for my Minecraft develop I know I I know that statement I’m a I’m a mcraft I know my basically from the point that Marcus pull a lever want you to know that is not water there is no bubbles that is straight vodcast on stage I was basically trying to get the update get the update M refreshing the download every second there were a few hiccups but uh he eventually got it working well yeah it didn’t work what we we call something doesn’t work a hiccup and then we we figur it out we did the adventure update in 2011 and that that was what we call a 1.0 release of the game but uh but obviously we knew that we would continue updating Minecraft because there was so much left to do uh and we also and we still do often go back and look at things that we did in the past and see how can we improve whoever that was had terrible aim for the 1.9 release which ended up being called combat update uh your favorite thing to talk about combat it was terrible Nathan also known as daone he wanted to make the dragon fight both more interesting and actually a little bit harder the combat update was controversial a lot of people had opinions about the combat and the charge up of the uh swinging of the BL sword and stuff okay B upage for a li impr choker but or not some people to this day are still playing 1.8 because they they feel like that has the better combat I was just reading a thread earlier today about the the merits of one way or the other and there’s a lot of things that have been added since then and it’s it’s a bummer to not get the old features but I think it really speaks to how players want to customize their world and their settings and everything we also wanted to expand the end so you would get an additional reward for fighting the dragon and Island the inspiration for the chorus plants was actually again Nathan he was talking about bananas what sorry what they look exactly the same they look exactly the same no but he saidan bananas they are not well I’m not an expert in this field but bananas they are not trees they’re are plants so they only give fruit once excuse me sir it’s literally called a banana tree what are you talking about and then you have to replant them okay and I thought that was very interesting so that’s why the CH plants they give the seeds at the top uh but you have to replant the whole thing in order to get new seeds 1.8 what are you talking about the trading temples in 1.3 just wanted to add something extra for for players to find if they were like rewarding them for their exploration uh but also both of them have traps it might have been a little bit growing up with IND in Indiana Jones and Temple of do yeah I mean I liked when you started I want them to upate because for my play type I think they will update the dungeons stuff and with the new spawners pillage it and then take everything take everything good and run away oh sorry my bad explor I just go weird places and then I build a base and I get lost and I build a new base I’m basically go weird I’m not I’m not not loyal not loyal but I still think like one of the things that still struck me is like when running around in Minecraft like seeing the Landscapes from The View and that was always like like they updated the desert temple trading was a big thing because trading made villagers like so much more interesting also I’ll never forget the day that someone tried trolling me oh they added a room in the desert temple when and then haha jk just joking they actually added a new room it’s a good and they were like wait what it just blew up it was amazing it was the funniest video I’ve ever put up was like oh getting troll by of yours and D it was like wait there’s a secret room wait what was fun because it was kind of this like optional super boss Destroyer on worlds oh yeah and I remember no it wasn’t you it was a while ago and nobody else was ready for it I forget who was it wasn’t you we lost half of our village and I needed to make aend later I wanted to have some kind of challenge to get the to get the key ing ingredient to start constructing uh the beacon U so we invented this creature and spawn yourself uh by gathering uh skeleton skeleton heads from the Wither Skeleton which was was a new type of skeleton in the nether I’ll admit that um these days if I’m going to SPO special arrows and better what build Beacon I used the various different tricks in order to minimize the damage the damage so you’re like it’s fine that this isn’t the game designer’s way AK me exactly I’ll use the community’s version y y of tricks oh boy I don’t know what I’m doing I see the ingredients for a Wither nothing has ever gone wrong with doing this that didn’t feel like 10 seconds oh I wasn’t even hitting W eyes why would someone do this to me even sure how to approach this they’re noobs no that cow no right before our eyes I think I died already did I already die if you show this to the community I will get roasted wait wait wait I can eat a chicken when we introduced potions oh my god well a lot worse oh what’s the Worst That Could oh my goodness is it the Sheep you wanted to St oh no if you’re lucky there’s still know everyone we still all knew each other but you’re becoming a bit bigger yeah I think it was it was still a little bit the same like it’s a very family feeling uh whenever one had a birthday we would all sing together like every birthday was celebrated and uh we we did like most things together mhm but of course as you mentioned like we’re also starting to have many many more projects and not everyone knew what everyone else was doing that was our web team right there yes that’s the entire web team two people I think um someone visited the office I’m trying to think who it was maybe it was even Phil Spencer later on but he was like so where’s the web team and he was like there those those those two people right there when I got to theice I felt like I was there all like it was just like would come in but there was never an end there was never an end leaving time you just stayed I think at that time barely anyone had kids no so it was really just I mean we would have j keep working we would mess around with projects we would hang out we would you know party it was arcaded what the hell yeah it’s its own world yeah and uh I would freaking frequently be there on weekends as well well yeah I was going to say always someone else I remember um going there one weekend and watching early 2000s hit different or late my own I think it was one of the greatest days I’ve ever had I was just sitting back wait what watching it for like 12 hours what did he say the cinema um going there one weekend and watching The Godfather Trilogy in the cinema on my own by yourself and it was one of the greatest days I’ve ever had I was just sitting back watching it for like 12 hours it was it was it was wonderful all the time I thought it was annoying because I was having calls and I had to run into a meeting room those were nice though those uh exhibition things around the trophy the trophy things yeah I remember specifically the WID screen award that we had WID screen support so we got an award for having white that’s good but we also had so many players like a community cheering us on so and we kept like tweeting to them or writing on Reddit like it was ongoing conversation with the players uh and that that was also like the what kept us you wanted to do yeah you’re like oh just finished this thing then someone will be like really excited about it true exactly I think it was a tradition that every developer has to break a build or make something broken at least once to get like initiated properly yeah in the first month or so I accidentally uploaded a file to the wrong folder and people in the world couldn’t play for like 20 minutes before we fix it again yeah um and I’m not a developer so I shouldn’t ever be breaking anything but I was uploading a News Post and put like a period in the wrong place and in some Json or I didn’t close a bracket or something like that I just broke the launder wait how did you break the laun you red stone I mean Redstone changed the game for a lot of people not for everyone which is one of the great things about Minecraft updates after most updates you can continue to play as though nothing ever changed but for a lot of people Redstone just opened everything because this is when engineering became a thing in Minecraft yeah I remember I feel like the automation people doing with redstone every just nearly as advanced as the community like especially like early modded Minecraft days what like my favorite one of my favorite mods is BuildCraft most just like it was like you were inside of a computer Jesus Fair understandable definitely understandable I’m not even going to continue with what saying 4K the update that changed the world for Minecraft 1.7 it literally yeah yeah yeah because of this like first generation new bi the world every update then people’s train gets a little bit weird that’s also why the last time we did updates with c and cliffs you put a lot of tech into place to make it easier in the future if we add new biomes or New World Generation to blend in with the existing things coming across my favorites are the big mushrooms because I just think they’re so fun to find yeah also very random I Tred to the snowy bios because it’s just so annoying to to have to take off the yeah I will say I’m not the biggest fan of ice biomes or snow biomes personally ocean that’s cool this was cool because this gave a whole I mean it gave the world literal depth but it gave a reason for you to to explore underwater the Bountiful updates we named it that way because it had so many different things I remember the first time I ever like found it I didn’t even know it was real I thought it was like see and I was like what the hell with Chambers inside and I spent a lot of time figuring out how to gener the I just find and through through that pyramid we also introduced the sponge sponges yeah which make these really fun as puzzles to kind of restorate could you imagine like it was like finding out oh there was a random update in Minecraft today what’s it about stronger exploring finds a massive Monument not KN blocks very very slowly cuz early on like I never looked at like upat and stuff like change LS and stuff so I’d always just I know you’re going to play however you want but’s try I’m just play the first few good few years i’ never Lo the update stuff you have to play according to the design I just play [Music] it the acquisition time was very confusing and try now it’s the designer designer designer is designing now you have to play according to the [Music] design oh oh ooh yeah that that’s that’s a big oof right there like it’s it’s it’s not as controversial as people like PTO it’s like he sold it good for him the acquisition time was very it was confusing and uh like uncertain like we didn’t really know what to expect not continued as the studio what kind develop expectations still doing so would Co we need to change defin and so forth we got really suspicious because Carl asked kin for some f Financial reports okay and we were like wait you’re asking for financial reports there can only be one reason you’re selling the company and then his face told me everything well I the what happens when your decisions are scrutinized by millions of people whom they feel like they have a personal connection with you honestly that’s a lot of pressure to deal with I became actually really really sad um because I thought um I felt weird that they would just sell off company like I remember having meetings with developers and everyone in the in the golden room basically like how do we do this how do we mitigate this how do we move on and make this work but in in truth I mean for the first maybe year and a half I think we barely had any interaction really yeah it was it it was very hands-off it was very hands off and I think Microsoft kind of wanted to learn what Minecraft was about is is that why there was like no updates for a year scary and it was very difficult to merge like so many different we had Swedish culture and American culture we had independent and corporate we I mean it was almost like let’s take everything opposite and put it together and so I think there’s just challenges that come through through that but to me what really felt the best about the acquisition is that I knew that Microsoft’s goal was to continue making Minecraft bigger but also we could focus on things like Minecraft education and like making the world a better place that was something that I think was meaningful to a lot of us we had so many like good ideas that we couldn’t like we were simply too small to take take them on so it it gave the opportunity to really expand and and uh use Minecraft for to do more and and good things um it also meant like we were finally growing up I think and I think we would have been forced to do that regardless because uh it was not really like sustainable for for the company or even for the game so so it was a it was a step for us to take Minecraft a little bit more seriously I’d say that’s cool that’s lots of big things happening at the same time in my life oh llamas after never LL so laas I he audience yes yes so this uh like um mine Con in London was the first mine con I ever went to and it was before I joined Mojang so I was St like that’s a lot of people time I got to 2015 I should have went star pretty insane I should try to convince people in like a crowd Let Me Go Minecraft first time ever in London go to Minecraft or M this I yeah I remember minec were always like the biggest surprise and I want you to know I will go to the next mine the community has I will go to the next mine two mcons before this in U Paris and in Orlando and quite strange because people would come up to me and you know like ask for autographs and things uh even though I didn’t work on Minecraft at the time um I just happened to have a branded t-shirt right um so it was it was a bit of a strange experience for me and then in in London um things had started to settle and kind of normalize and instead of caring so much about us and and the people of Mojang it was really the community coming together and kind of celebrating itself things also started settling for us after acquisition kind of a time of uncertainty and youing and being a little bit afraid uh but I think that all became better as soon as we could start meet up with our new US colleagues and you know learned that they are people and what we are doing here and we really started doing a lot outside of just Minecraft we focused on mation block by block Foundation we started working on new games like Minecraft dungeons we had a lot of new people joining amazing game that’s how I remember it at least mons what was your feels feelings no I think that’s a that’s a pretty good summary What exploration update is this one I just started lots of big things happening at the same time in my life I moved to Stockholm I was like six months pregnant and I joined Mojang seeing this Ste she was go and stop you ever go as a player if I find it yes for sure like I I I definitely go to the mansion see if I can find it yeah and back then was to do structures we didn’t have like a good system so it’s all is hardcoded and and like to get everything together like the code is is a mess love the shicken rooms there’s also the C oh I love the chicken room personally I love the nitwit I think it’s um it’s the perfect example of the thing that exists just to exist they walk around your village it’s fun the nitwit oh is that what the sto the the Villager that doesn’t have a training is literally called a I remember that remember the L okay that’s so much resech Agnes Twitter has decided llamas it is you know what to do so surreal I mean still surreal to do videos but then I’m like well I’m a I’m a coder and now I’m out here she had to go to a what it’s but it was it was very very fun and the Llama I remember the Llama he was called Adrian and he was very nice I think the bringing the illers into Minecraft I don’t I don’t think I don’t think Yen really knew how big of an impact he was he was making on the like Minecraft world when yes for me that was quite special because uh at the time I was working on on uh the Prototype stages of of a new game that we were developing uh uh Minecraft dungeons Yen first started working on the illers for this update uh he did it specifically with Minecraft dungeons in mind so not everyone knows that but um we needed more enemy types larger enemy variety uh to fight against in Minecraft dungeons it’s a very combat focused game and so um Yan designed the illers and kind of gave them to us you serious I never knew that that’s actually kind of cool I think this is a super nice update I think col before it was more about combat and challenging the players who love that type of gameplay in Minecraft I guess this was just for Builders more like the creative and expressive yeah it’s like I was talking about but they added so many different stuff it’s like they’re so creative we can’t possibly imagine building you know Cathedrals or yeah giant flying parrots yeah that’s fair honestly fair I remember long discussions in the office on whether it was ethical to feed Pirates crackers or not and how we should represent that in the game excuse me that’s kind of special in Minecraft to have oh yeah cuz don’t you feed the cookie they die yeah like an Easter egg information but one of the Ambit sounds for the parot is actually is like hello if if you think about it if you know it then you can hear it like hello hello wait oh I’m going to have to listen to it now 1.13 aquatic update no update aquatic yeah like it’s called update aquatic this was so fun and o i coded so this was I probably spent two wel to we’re just watching the Minecraft like 15 year anniversary stuff everyone was like oh my God they to Minecraft and it was all it was all Cory and I’m like I literally joined right before the they went out for me this is also remembering a lot of how with this update we talked about collaborations about how do we like talk about the cor I think this update was the first update that for me Minecraft started like doing good stuff cor how we could tie our update together with making changes in the world and you should add the first noing this update wait why is there oh my God how Minecraft affects the world why why do they have a lot the water fun to work on like um first being able to just read and read and read about real life Turles and then trying to mine craftify their behaviors and I felt quite evil because you know it’s a big thing with I want it to be a thing that you want to take care of the turtle eggs and make like so she the there’s lots of threats so like every should not and the babies that’s terrifying she did that on purpose oh quite a lot of stuff here while Dolphins obviously were in the game so I went to call mod to record some Dolphins yeah and the metallic ruler there is um I use that for the Trident you remember those twangs when you throw them and it hit like and the milk obviously for the all the drown because we gurgle lots of milk back then a lot of gurgling yeah and the baby down there is my S and which I used the recordings for the Phantoms I remember what you mean that’s your child joining during this period it was a lot of fun but me the Phantoms is your kid we added new desks everywhere even where we used to have a gaming and Cinema room all of a sudden people were working in there with no windows of course we wanted to add even more people to keep making our game great and it led to us actually moving into a new office around this time that was a fun time [Music] a village up [Music] day I love the village and vill update also so fun to work on cuz I love best video of Minecraft personally sing I I know the team it’s so bad I know the team like the stairs and fces for like a lot of blocks also the trap doors I think and the doors even uh it had one of my favorite memories from Village and pillage was uh I remember this one day at the office I’m just saying the video is not actually how did solve villag professions I remember at meeting yens was there as well and we were like what about some Flags everyone was like n that’s not doesn’t feel right because it has no use you know and then that that idea came up yeah we let’s have workstations for every profession it’s like 12 how many I don’t know yeah how hard could it be that is cool we still need the Fletching table I think it’s the Fletching one is it the Fletching one we need still I actually really loved what the raid did with this update that it adds a new type of challenge for the players be fair they have updated raids this up I have about the raid is a bit unexpected because I was playing with my my daughter we played in creative and then the she accidentally triggered a raid and for me first I thought in creative mode maybe it isn’t as exciting because you know we will not get hurt yeah but seeing the excitement for her oh yeah it didn’t matter that it was creative she’s like I think the ravager basically came out of like a coffee machine conversation like I want something that kind of looks like a what villager but in a weird way like sort of like this man I do wonder how these devs come up with some of the creatures out there with references here but like like when we come to the 1.6 update how they came up with the design for The Strider I want to know a the ocean BS the monster will attack you we won it should have been a to pull you down and drown you it should have the first M vote I think like 5,000 people voted yeah the initial Obviously good intent with um with mob vots is to evolve and engage on a very early stage uh to have the dialogue on which mob to select I think over the years we started to see that people really like they liked the idea of of getting to contribute to what we make in the game but I think the problem is we started having ideas that people really got attached to so it wasn’t just like these really vague abstract concepts of of things that could work it was actually stuff that people could relate to and when you tell people to choose between them all they say like it’s not they they want all three should have been the mo you don’t want to miss out on the possibilities and I think the problem is it comes across as though like we have all three ready to go already already designed they’re already CED they’re already like fully polished features if we’re just like waiting to press a button on only one of them and then we’re going to throw out the other two adding anything to a game is super complex it needs to fit into the ecosystem it needs to go into all the system it needs to make gameplay interesting in some as we need to um reach a certain quality on all for all different ways you play like if you no I’m happy to sniffer one I just want to still upate it and more flowers lot of kind of process and work oh my Peng we love this game too and we’ve been in the community and we know what it’s like and we’re we’re not doing anything just because we like want to ruin people’s day or like make people sad like we’re trying to make the best game that we think it needs to be to fit the vision we have but all the stuff like this like why not all of them and commenting all over the place and making petitions and like yeah why not all them uh passion and that shows that people really like care about what we’re doing and I think that’s what I love most about the Minecraft Community it’s all it’s all because they love the game this is for another update oh the best update this was a rough time in hello how’s it going doing pretty good want this i’ love it thank you welcome to the stream screen just give some context to what we are seeing and you’re going to react to it and you’re going to talk to each other Okay you Okay a best update oh my God this is from another update I love the hoglands I want them to describe why they why the sters what the Strider is where did they get the idea of it first day at back then we had a white board and it had kind of the plan of the ne update along yeah I remember that and it felt like I was being let into the secrets like oh I I know it’s going to turn out yeah exactly this was also the first time we introduced proper Ambience um sound ambience in age biome so oh yes amazing amazing the music was probably the best part and the particles so hectic and there’s always enemies and always dangerous and so much lava and everything and the the warp Forest is a lot more calm and quiet a bit desolate yeah warped I guess is very warped exactly when we worked onra it was like okay so now we going to make a place that feel not at all like over world not at all like the real world we wanted to be alien so was very fun to create they definitely got that with the N update they definitely got not like everything else challing we were kind of struggling the time with another update to try and inject a little bit of that survival gameplay Loop that is already in the overw world but make it feel different so if we just ended up creating some sort of uh boat that you could craft then it might feel a bit too much like the Overworld we wanted to go in a different direction thought of the of the Strider that was a lot of Brandon’s personality he wanted to make them look kind of crazy and the hair sticking out I have to say though I feel like every time I I jump off a St I immediately fall into low all this stuff was super important to us because story of Legends and the enemy of Legends is um these Rowdy little pink Critters there not the zombified ones but the piglins and I know from also having spent some time with you and your team for dungeons as well CU you went you went to some of these places in dungeons too oh yes it’s always so cool when we can have multiple games that kind of inspire each other and help building on each other how does this B look in Minecraft how does it look in say dungeons or a spin-off game yeah caves in questionable just look okay the up gorgeous this is I love the Lush cave especially I like how they put the updates together update 17 and 18 that’s so good all the goats the most terrifying thing in the game cuz I get e off a cliff and they saw the goat for the first time and I was like look this is the goat yeah we added it’s so cute and then they looked away for just one second they got pooped off the right like yes yes I have found one ax lottle in all of my survival worlds really the most ax lles I’ve seen is always in Creative I’m always flying around oh of course cirles in survival I found one I made a mistake of putting them in my aquarium I think they eat the fish yes they do yes hello I’m Agnes and today Henrik and myself will talk a bit about the kids and KPS update and why we have split it into two releas yeah I mean this is of course when we made the decision to split the caves and cliffs update and um I mean it was it was an interesting time for many different reasons this was a rough time especially coming off like it was very oh yeah the pic information okay everyone should I think it was very like separate because coming off a massive update high expectations like it had been a a discussion point for a very long time of like the cave update the cave up it really felt like we as a team had to do something that lived up to the community had people working from home they’re going to be putting far more time in than usual because they can’t disconnect the their development machine is right next to them so I remember just waking up and immediately on the computer talking to people and that’s good and bad you need your time dud I remember it quite vividly likeo it we did team health checks we saw that the stress levels were going up and the happiness levels going down so it’s much better to make sure that the team feel as good as possible and are as happy as possible yeah 100% then we then we can at the time everyone was mad but she’s we’re talking about her but I know it was hard it was very hard for her it it was tough feeling of letting letting the community down you didn’t let us down yeah exactly there there you go seeing the community understand and respect and prefer a healthy way of working rather than come on please give everything right now we don’t care about what happens later yeah it’s hard to even express how much that meant to us that the community really understood and really showed support and I’m still thinking about that sometimes and I’m it was it’s a one it’s a very big moment for me he I’m this emotional what the hell and then everyone was amazing and that I got most I nowhere what the hell it’s the Wild update wild upate this is the first time started to get proper uh animations you worked on the Frog animation yeah I don’t know what I was thinking I just wanted it to be a cool animation is he the animator wait is he the animator so I made this Walken that had his feet screen I’ve ever seen in my life by the way just that there that frog that green frog was the most Fest thing I’ve ever seen and people loved it and they made it into a sort of and we also embraced it and made it into a music video lat Minecraft life I did not uh particularly work on this update but I know as an artist I always uh really appreciated uh especially the vegetation in the mango swamps another thing that I really love about that update is the mango trees trees not teses can you just say it and I can mouth it mango trees bang this is one of my favorites because the first time I saw the team give us a new dungeon please show the deep dark as aspect the deep dark the chicken it was not the chicken no mean proper scary we spend so much time talking about like how scary is Minecraft what is Minecraft scary like just taking the time to talking about feelings that was a big thing with this update though was kind of evoking the classic Minecraft we always want to go back to our roots and we we all played Minecraft back in the day um so we like to kind of reach back to the parts before each of us joined Mojang what did we enjoy the ancient city as well has some sort of like you know like law civilization Vibe yeah like what happened here like in terms of just its breath how how wide was generating Ong ground and now we’re I think it’s the second biggest little baby the Lays one of my favorite features about it that I feel like not many people saw it’s like one of those small thing that you might miss oh Dan with them is that when they throw an item to you they throw it one by one and they make a sound on the throw that it’s slightly pitched different everyone and a bunch of aays their sounds will sink in a sense that they sort of create this choir playing music for you as they throw oh yeah I have heard that never mind I love that new default skins oh yeah it was like a big thing in Minecraft that we finally added a more diverse I just like came over from dungeons they just look like dungeon SK in the game is they’re just new characters and I love it important it’s meaningful yeah I really like the Red Thread metaphor here of car so I reckon in the Minecraft movie that there will be it won’t be just Steve and Alex it’s going to be all the characters to carry the torch it’s showing what what Minecraft is stands for in this you know a better world you have characters with many people uh and they all look different and they identify differently and then at the end you see something beautiful that is being created by everyone I cried when I saw this for the first time oh okay I didn’t cry but it was cool to have new skins trails and tals I came with archaeology animal sniffers some new plants cherry trees which are of course are absolutely beautiful definitely had to explore some different storytelling with how could represent some different storytelling with like iconography and everything I was very impressed by uh how much research the design team did on archaeology to make it real it’s not just like you know kind of see it in the movie and you go to a digite and you uncover an ancient Relic kind of a thing like went out and talked to archaeologists and and did the work to find out what see that is cool and all but I feel like that’s exactly what everyone wants during working on the camels and had a trip like I genuinely think that’s what people want is like the more overe excessive just Chas and after sort of getting reminded of all funes weird ways of movement and stuff like that that we really try to bring in that feel of right Jesus that Camel is terrifying with uh the sniffer cheese animation work and everything is just amazing it’s uh it’s really cool seeing the sniffer in action and seeing it dig and seeing its ears like flop around and everything it’s a it’s a very Charming mob I heard sniffer was difficult because it was so big it is huge but luckily it’s a sort of slow kind of like lumbering lumbering is that words yeah lumbering um so it works out in the end still yet to get one in survival what has been the impact that and Minecraft has had in your life I mean it is completely unimaginable I know people who are in the community who have now created their own small ecosystems or in small communities where they’ve literally met up in person they’ve gone on like trips throughout Europe and stuff to go to different countries and like it’s not special to working at burang you just have to be playing the game and find people that you you kind of vibe with and you play Minecraft for both we started as as players especially like now like I have this small community but the small community is getting bigger and bigger every time I love it working with Minecraft was this dream that felt impossible for the future of Minecraft I hope that we can grow the sort of Minecraft universe yeah I think there’s a feeling of responsibility to keep Minecraft going uh I don’t think there’s a problem with shortage of of ideas but how do we do them right and how do we keep the spirit the same so that if we were to log in 10 years from now it would still feel like Minecraft keeping a lot from what has been from the previous 15 years because I think there’s something really oh yeah can I just say every time I saw this like I saw this on Tik Tok or something 10 years from now it would still feel like Minecraft keeping I thought he had a double chin I genuinely thought Alex here had a double chin a lot from what has been from the previous 15 years CU and every time he moved he was jiggling his like chin magical and amazing that sort of happened here that none of us really completely understand either right I think it’s not really clear how this thing that we love so much happen but isn’t that the thing with Minecraft like it’s it’s much bigger than than ask my ideas of what Minecraft is is different to the people that worked on it 10 years ago but that’s because of all the foundational work they did to begin with there are going to be new people who continue to come in and essentially adopt this game adopted this experience and I want to make sure that currently just watching all the Minecraft videos have come out recently sort of this oh my God it has been an experience just watching all this prior is enough that they can continue to carry on that torch with the same passion with getting more Deep dive in with like the developers it’s just so who said you know we W to be here for 100 Years be first 100 Year franchise just aging like a fine wine if Minecraft is the first game to go to 100 years that be mcraft I hope that it still keeps true to how it felt in the beginning stage they literally went through update by update and it’s just what they have been this whole time but it it’s just so cool oh and that’s the end of that I think what is that the last video no they have two more they have n they have a Tetris wait what they have video and then I’m end the the crafter Breeze bed trial spawner new paintings new music disc and so much more and today we’re focusing on the Journey of how we develop the tri Chang okay it kind of started with this vision of the monster room oh the dungeon and we wanted to see how can we take that and just expand upon it in an even bigger structure something that has more combat challenges has more Rewards okay so when you first find a trial chamber it’s going to be hidden underground this means that you’re going to find it through either digging through a cave or going to a villager and obtaining one of the Explorer maps that will lead you right to it I feel like it might be find many spawners that are actually different than the ones that you may have encountered before they’re called trial spawners and they are designed to Scale based on the amount of players that you bring into the group and from the technical perspective Trail spawner is pretty I want to get a 10 group of people just to go into one child chamber see how messy it gets kind of Cycles through but also can like go from one to another and it has also an omino state which also adds an extra complexity and extra things that block can do sometimes these trial spawners will eject a key and the tri key unlock the vaults that will see throughout the trial Chambers the stream’s going to end soon anyway for the trial Chambers was more of an a Mesoamerican feel as I feel like a lot of civilizations uh in that area had beautiful geometrical work that I think could really work well in Minecraft in general I’m pretty happy with uh where we ended up seen pictures it’s a nice blend of old civilization but kind of this futuristic kind of tinkery kind of feel the swirl each of the different rooms that you see in the I love all the new copper stuff actually have different intricate uh pieces so each room so if you didn’t hear what I was saying I’m going to I want to have a little event where I get about 10 people to join and we just go into a tri chamber decorative BLS it’s supposed to get or harder every time there’s more people so it’s just going to with the copper more of an industrial kind of feel so especially with uh the ER sounds ftru something I won’t be able to stream day one cuz I’m working I think I’m the 13th but I’ll have a video I’ll do like a Let’s Play video most challenging part of this update the blog is complex for example line of sight check uh that or if I do it’s going to be early but I don’t think the update going be when the M would spawn just around the block we found people have their hair for example uh a can spawn outside of the room or even outside of the structure so caves and stuff yeah exactly and then okay good luck to uh finishing that uh challenge so we had to think about it and how we had to implement a line of sight check uh to spawn mode I don’t know if I can laugh that way a second they need to be able to configure what mobs spawn from it what uh loot ejects from it and of of course with the ominous version of the trial spawners we have these um projectiles that shoot down from the sky when a trial spawner is on uh there’s a little fire lit in it there’s also this Minecraft element of Soul inside it so I just used what we already have a furnace that plays this fire sound and then some soul assets on top are you kidding me something living was missing in it so I decided to just record some weird stuff I did with my throat like um okay I don’t know about that one was actually a gotcha machine where you like turn a little crank and a little got but we thought that didn’t really fit the trial chamber so we kind of went in a direction for something that would kind of fit the vibe of the trial chamber is a little bit better the signing sounds for the vault was also very interesting because it also has something alive to it it has like an a keyhole that opens that that is cool though when you think about it and me and Brandon like that’s pretty sick maybe this mouth makes some kind of noise it was just me awkwardly staring into a wall close to the mic just breathing the one thing that I’m looking forward to just really seeing my man is a bit weird but I like it I think especially with the copper there’s a lot of different levels of oh and I think that there’s a lot of cool things you could do with different gradients and uh different oh it’s bad when even the devs are talking about gradients I think a lot of players are going to love about this update is just uh how much has been put into one single experience the trial Chambers is really this structure that has a lot of depth to it a lot of different mechanics and I think this is something that we haven’t done before that was so cool okay
