Hermitcraft 9: Episode 43 – DECORATING THE PERIMETER

I’ve just logged on the server and we have a problem. Well, Mumbo doesn’t seem to have a problem. Oh no, he’s got a problem. We’ve got a very big problem. That’s a lot of dragon eggs! How did Doc get his hand on a dragon egg in the first place?

Wow wow wow, how bad is my memory? Just roll back a few episodes. I gave him the egg! What am I saying? Boom, he’ll appreciate that. I thought we had the population of these controlled? Oh wow. There’s a lot of dragon eggs. And one wither skull.

Er… This is one of those things that’s very easy to throw around. You can place these extremely easily, you can even- If you right click them they teleport somewhere and fall a block so… They also crash me as well. [laughs] I think I have got a solution

To my crashing problem. It’s a mod issue but part of me wants to keep this issue alive and I’m gonna keep score. I’m gonna keep track of who abuses this power and then I’m gonna fix the issue. Oh there’s a lot, oh here we go. I found a sign.

Poke the goat and you will find out who’s got the biggest balls. That one just says “goat”. I would’ve gone for poke the goat and you get the horns but I don’t think he was thinking of that. At least the campsite is still alive and Goateater is still here.

So I guess we’re moving in here while we have a clear out of- Oh. I’m just- I’m actually genuinely trying to think how do you clear these out easily? Is that Mumbo? Wow! Did you see his face? Oh they’re everywhere. I currently have two things to clear up.

I still have the chickens that are- There’s still quite a few of these hanging around and now I’ve got the eggs as well. Now there’s two ways for me to get rid of these that I know of and both aren’t very time efficient ways. One is that you break the block beneath.

And… crash. Yeah well then, they still drop. I think my only option is the very lengthy place a piston, place the- That still crashes me! Okay, I’ve discovered that pistons make me crash. Wait, if I keep the crash mod on, the one that makes me crash, maybe I can get out of this.

Since I can’t- Hello? [MUMBO] Hello? Hello? I feel like I snuck in on a secret conversation there. [GRIAN] No no no, not at all, not at all. Both methods make me crash. [MUMBO] That’s so convenient, Grian! That is so ridiculously convenient. [GRIAN] So I have a feeling

That I’m gonna have to sit this one out. You see, I’m not sure how I can participate in this clean up operation. [MUMBO] Can you send me your Minecraft folder please? [GRIAN] Yeah yeah, we’ll leave it with Scar. [MUMBO laughs] Yeah. Whatever-

Or just the crash log and then I can just, you know, fake it, I could just put it up on the screen and be like “oh”. [GRIAN] We’ll practice now, you just log out when I- When I do this, right ready?

[MUMBO] Ready. Yeah yeah. [GRIAN] If I do this I’m gonna go as well. [GRIAN laughs] [MUMBO] Yeah that works. [GRIAN] Now I have no evidence if you actually logged off or not. [MUMBO laughs] I promise you I did. I mean, next time Scar logs on, we’ll do our little presentation

And we’ll have to just inform him. [GRIAN] Yeah yeah, we’ll have to let him know. [MUMBO] Scar has just logged in. Shall we fly over and shall we show him our little display and see what noise he makes? When we tell him he has to clear it all up. [laughs]

[BOTH laugh] [MUMBO laughs] Wh- What?! [GRIAN laughs] [SCAR] Oh what up buttercups, what’s going on here buttercups? [GRIAN] Hi buttercup. [SCAR] I’ve got work to do, buttercups! [MUMBO] Yeah, you’ve got a lot of work to do actually. We’ve got some bad news. [GRIAN] Yeah, we got a really big issue.

[SCAR] I got to landscape, I got the truck coming around with the plants and the trees, I got work to do and it’s covered in eggs! [GRIAN] I’ve got really bad news. Is that both methods of getting rid of the eggs make me crash and Mumbo has the same issue. [SCAR] Really?

[MUMBO] Totally. Yeah. [GRIAN] Yeah. [SCAR] Oh no. [MUMBO] Definitely for real. Do you mind-? [GRIAN] Yeah do you wanna see? [MUMBO] Count in, count in. [GRIAN] I’ll break this block, are you ready? [SCAR] Okay, stand in front of it. No no no, stand here.

I wanna get a good view, I wanna get a good view. Stand here, stand right next to- Mumbo get over here! [MUMBO] Okay yeah yeah yeah. [SCAR] Hold hands, hold hands. Get close. Closer, closer, a little closer. There we go! There we go! You love to see it.

[GRIAN] You ready? [SCAR] Here we go! [GRIAN] Three, two, one… [SCAR] Four. [MUMBO] Hello? [GRIAN] Oh there we go. [SCAR] There we go. [GRIAN] So basically, we’ve got quite a problem. [MUMBO] Yeah. Yeah big problem. [SCAR] Oh wait. Oh no no wait. Mm… [MUMBO] So you’re the only one that has to-

[SCAR] I have a small brain but I’m picking up what you’re throwing down here. [GRIAN] Yeah. Two of us are unable to get the eggs. [MUMBO] So yeah, you’ll have to do all the clearing up, you know. [SCAR] Did I tell you I’ve got some trees being delivered from the nursery?

I got work to do at Scarland! [GRIAN] You’re the only one that can clear up these eggs. [SCAR] Am I the eggboy? [GRIAN] You are, you are, you are the eggboy. [MUMBO] Yeah can’t believe that- It’s such bad luck though. [GRIAN] That is- That’s a rough job, innit?

[SCAR] Wait wait, I fell something strange inside my pit of my stomach. Hold on, look, watch, oh my gosh, look. Loo- [GRIAN] Please stop that. [SCAR] Did you see Grian? I crashed. [GRIAN] I didn’t see anything because I actually crashed! [MUMBO] No no! Yeah so did we! We both really actually crashed.

We totally crashed. [SCAR] Yeah, we’re a trio of buttercup crashers. That’s right. Uh-huh. Definitely. [GRIAN] Uh-huh. [MUMBO] Yeah. [SCAR] He he. [MUMBO] So I guess er… What’s the plan then? [laughs] [SCAR] We get Cubfan to do it. [MUMBO] Yeah yeah that’s always a good idea. [SCAR] For the museum!

[MUMBO] I don’t think he’s actually on my side because just after I finished recording with you guys, I flew over to the button and pinched a red crown which I think we all agree looks lovely. [GRIAN] You don’t need to be your own friend! [MUMBO] But… Just-

[GRIAN] You don’t need to press your own button! [MUMBO laughs] [GRIAN] I’m not surprised he’s mad at you. Cub’s trying to be your best friend and you’re just over here doing some self love, it’s unnecessary! Someone’s got to clear this up! [MUMBO] Yeah. Well the good news is, guys, [GRIAN] No Scar.

[SCAR] What? I’m just walking around. Oo big pebbles. [MUMBO] The good news is, is that it’s mainly on both of your bases. There’s only about five eggs on my base. So I guess that’s the benefit of having a small base. [GRIAN] You still got- [SCAR] No, they’re inside here, Mumbo.

[MUMBO] I mean look, there’s a good number but not quite as many as what you guys have got. [GRIAN] No. But if you’re crashing, Mumbo, you won’t be able to clean this up at all. [MUMBO] No of course not, they’ll be there forever and permanently. Oh they-

Oh no, you didn’t actually click one. I almost crashed. Phew! Woah! [SCAR] Wait a second… [GRIAN] Ah! Ah! [GRIAN] I knew it! [SCAR] Who is cleaning up now? [GRIAN] I knew it! [MUMBO] But you stayed online! [GRIAN] Please don’t right click anymore. If they render in my visible unit, that’s when I crash

But neither of you did. Scar, get cleaning up. [SCAR] [sighs] Fine, I’m cleaning up. [GRIAN] Scar, stop it, stop it. No- Alright, okay. Let’s just put aside who’s gonna do the cleaning for now. Let’s promise not to touch any eggs for now. What are we gonna do in return

Because this is- this is- This is mildly annoying. Actually it’s a bit more than mildly annoying. [MUMBO] I heard in the Youtube comments that Doc has got a bit robot type thing that our camp is in the way of. We could just totally build like a big robot

That faces off against his robot. [GRIAN] Transformers. [MUMBO] And then they can have like a robot fight. [GRIAN] I have no idea how to make flying machines. [MUMBO] I mean, I can do that. [GRIAN] Yeah that’s gonna- That’s gonna be on you. [MUMBO] Okay, well I can do that.

But then his is in a barn, so I definitely think like having it in a barn would probably be- [SCAR] It’s a shack. [MUMBO] Would be cool as well. [GRIAN] What are you gonna make? What robot is it? What’s it gonna look like? A buttercup? [MUMBO] A buttercup, of course.

Just a big old flowery buttercup. [SCAR] I was hoping for a VW bus but that’s okay. That’s fine. [GRIAN] He doesn’t ask for much, does he? [MUMBO laughs] No. This is nothing but complaints around! [SCAR laughs] [MUMBO] What a gorgeous build! [GRIAN] This is the barn. So what does it do?

The machine walks out the barn and just walks along here? [MUMBO] Yeah yeah. [GRIAN] It’s gonna stamp on our camp. [MUMBO] Yeah it’s gonna stamp all over our camp. [GRIAN] I think reality is that the camp is gonna stop the goat in its tracks. [MUMBO] Look, flying machines they are

Flawed in many ways. [GRIAN] They look scary but actually if you just like poke them once they just go “euh”. [MUMBO] Our buttercup will protect the camp in a very dramatic fashion. [SCAR] Like a jousting match, they just meet in the middle. [MUMBO] Exactly. A meet in the middle. Hopefully do like-

[GRIAN] Can you make it explode the goat? [MUMBO] I will gladly make it explode the goat. [SCAR] Like firework dispensers as it’s going like pew pew! [GRIAN] Don’t think you can move dispensers. [MUMBO] No no, can’t move dispensers, Scar. Way to make my build sound disappointing again!

[GRIAN] Dude, I feel so bad. Every time Scar makes a suggestion, we shoot it down. [laughs] [laughing] [MUMBO] It’s just because he keeps coming up with things that are impossible! [SCAR] No I was thinking it would be like pollen right? It’s a buttercup, it’s shooting pollen out,

That’s its attack method. [GRIAN] He was like “Let’s push the goat off the cliff”. Oh Scar, they can cling to mountains really easily. [MUMBO] He just needs to come up with better suggestions. [SCAR] I’m doing my best over here! [MUMBO] It’s really bad!

[GRIAN] When you give us a good suggestion, we’re gonna jump on it. [MUMBO] Yeah look Scar, how about this? You ride in the battlebot. It might not be comfortable when they collide but you can ride in the battlebot and you can fire off as many fireworks as you want to.

[SCAR] I did have a suggestion by the way. I thought maybe we could make buttercup cookies that we could eat like these but with buttercups. What do we think? What are your thoughts? Maybe I like a stand, we sell the cookies, it helps fund the operation. [GRIAN] You’re a true warrior, Scar.

You can be in charge of cookies. [MUMBO] Okay excellent yeah. We’re on board with that idea. [GRIAN] Good stuff. Right so you’ll make the big robot of death and I shall make the flower pot that it sits in, you handle the cookies. [SCAR] Yes! [MUMBO] Excellent!

[MUMBO] What a meeting! [GRIAN] What a team! [MUMBO] Two for two incredible meetings. [GRIAN] We didn’t even sit on our chairs that we spend ages making. What a fantastic meeting we’ve had. [MUMBO] Yeah wowowow. [GRIAN] Brilliant, excellent. [MUMBO] Business! Now that we’ve got ourselves a little plan together,

Mumbo is gonna be making the robot and then when he’s done that I’ll be covering it up, in the meantime I’ve been steadily and I do mean steadily getting rid of these eggs. I have got quite a few of these already. I’ve cleared out most of this half

And I got to tell ya, it’s both painful but not quite as bad as I thought. I think, you know, dedicate a couple of hours to getting rid of these and we will be absolutely fine. Well, there’s not a lot else to do other than just slowly whittle this down

Egg by egg an egg-scalation. [chuckles] The egg puns are gonna come back out, I promise. It’s not very egg-citing. It’s not a very good yolk. However, I promise that this episode isn’t gonna be just us collecting eggs. We’re actually gonna do a 180 and pivot this episode because there’s actually something

That I agreed to do a while ago and haven’t begun yet. So we’re gonna do that. I’ve prepared a few boxes but here’s the clip from a couple of weeks ago where I spoke to Tango about working on helping him with his project Decked Out. [GRIAN] Hello? [TANGO] Bah! [GRIAN] There he is.

I see you’re a fan as well, are you? [TANGO] I am a big fan, yeah. [GRIAN laughs] [TANGO] Autograph copy is my new rug, you like it? [GRIAN] [laughs] Yeah it’s- Just as creepy as the one on Mumbo’s wall. [TANGO] Yeah, it’s not awkward at all, yeah. This is for you.

This spot right here particularly down in- Pay no attention to the shrieker going off. I’ve been saving this spot for quite a while and I didn’t know what I wanted to do with it but I have an idea now. I’m not gonna tell you exactly what’s going on there

But you can build the room. Down in here, yes. This platform here, I wanna make this a separate room with a ladder, one way ladder, in and out. You can like enclose it in and just kinda go around the redstone there. [GRIAN] Okay and what is this room?

[TANGO] So this room, I would like this to be an abandoned laboratory. [TANGO] If that makes sense. [GRIAN] Okay, yes. [GRIAN] Okay, I can do that. [TANGO] I feel like you can do this. [GRIAN] Yeah. [TANGO] And I’ll let you know that the focal point of this laboratory

Is going to be an iron golem. [GRIAN] Right. [TANGO] The guy who was into all the science laboratory was into making golems as pets and stuff like that kind of thing. So a little bit of mix of magic and science going on if you can. [GRIAN] Yeah okay.

And this is the space I’m working with, right? [TANGO] Yeah pretty much. [GRIAN] Alright, so it’s not massive. [TANGO] You know, you’ve got plenty of space. [GRIAN] Plenty of height as well. [TANGO] Little bit more here you can dig out. Pretty much just don’t go where’s there’s coloured wool and redstone

And you’ll be fine. [GRIAN] Okay yeah, I can do that. So this is the room we are going to make for Decked Out and he’s requested it to be more magic themed than industrial which is why I’ve kind of got some warped hyphae and some mushrooms and some pots and things like that.

Hopefully we can come up with something pretty cool for here. First, I think what I’m gonna do is get this room enclosed. So I have a wall to work with in general. You know, I don’t actually know what a Decked Out room has in it. I think it just has-

I think my job is just to decorate it. So I’ve cleared out this space here. This is as close as I can get on the right hand side. As you can see, there’s some redstone that I desperately don’t want to mess with.

That’s kind of what- That’s what iron golems look like and I can even make this a little bit Iron Man by popping one of these in the middle. So those are the parts of an iron golem but it’s not quite sitting well for some reason.

So in my free flow, I’ve ended up with this hanging parts to be assembled iron golem and I ended up trying to make a bookshelf with the new blocks and even using the pots as some sort of detail. I think that actually works pretty well.

And as you can see, I kind of tried to go for a circular room but I’m not sure that’s gonna work. So now that I’ve got this far, I think I can figure out where I’m going. I’m gonna make this extend all the way

And then over this side, what I think I’m gonna do is have more of a cave entrance. So that it can have some mushrooms on it and then have the lava pour into there. So I’ve got a good idea of where I want to go.

One of the little details that I wanted to give a go is these trapdoors and then a hanging sign and then more trapdoors on the other side and then more hanging signs all the way down. And that looks pretty good.

It’s like a sliding ladder that you find in those really posh libraries. This works a lot better when there’s a good amount of books in here as well. Time to stop and do a quick update. Things are going pretty well in the free flow zone.

This has expended all the way up here and I can’t tell you how much wood I’ve spent on this. These are quite expensive. Hanging signs are quite expensive believe it or not. Now I have actually moved this hanging thing because it was just out of scale.

The parts of the iron golem were out of scale and it looked too bulky for this tiny room. So what I’m gonna do is put the chest piece in here with like the Iron Man motif in the middle on a desk and then have the other parts hanging over this like

Forge that I’ve created. Now the issue that I’m having is when people come down here, they’re gonna be on eye level with this so they can’t really tell what this is. So my next move is to move this down one or two blocks and have it so you can see the table

And the parts of the iron golem and then once that’s done, I just need to fill in these two sections and that just about does it. So with this room there’s a slight problem. That this side is significantly better than this side. So I spoke to Tango

And I’ve got to say, I actually don’t know what makes a good Decked Out room. I hope this is right. As far as I’m concerned, this is it. You just have a room and then Tango comes in and does stuff.

So Tango informed me that you need to be able to heal an iron golem. So what I’ve done is added one here and made it in a box on the wall so that he can do whatever redstone he needs on the other side of that.

And that’s kind of what I’ve themed it around with this but the thing is, the cave part and the ceiling I’ve gone for don’t really work, they collide with this on the right which I’m not gonna stress about because I’ve free flowed this and it looks pretty good.

We’ve got the hanging parts of the golem, we’ve got the chest plate in the middle and we’ve got this like forge. Do you know what? It works, it looks good, it was incredibly expensive. These are expensive blocks and I got to play with some of the new blocks.

That is it, that’s my Decked Out room. It’s finished, I’ll let Tango know and let me know what you think. It’s not exactly a planned out build at all but hopefully this works out for exactly what he wants. Now I’ve got to draw attention to this.

Now I’ve got to point out that I’ve spent the best part of the whole day building one single room and Tango has built all of this. All of this. From the outside it looks complex but remember, all of these have an interior as well. This is insane.

I have only done one room but Tango has done all of this over the last year. So hopefully that room helps just a little bit. And naturally my shulker box monster is starting to grow again. Now that we’ve finished our Decked Out contribution that gave Mumbo enough time to make himself-

Well, he told me that the robot was finished. This is it. Let’s just take a minute to digest- [chuckles] digest this. Yeah okay right. I can see the buttercups but why has it got four legs? Interesting! That is one funky looking robot. And he did message me on Discord and he was like

We’re calling this the bottercup, right? Yes! Yes. The only answer to that is yes Mumbo. Mumbo really is insanely talented when it comes to these flying machines. I wouldn’t even know where to begin! I wouldn’t even know how to build one leg.

I don’t even know how to make those like one cubes that move. I’m gonna have to look up how to make a flying thing that takes out the bamboo. That’s how little I understand this. So to be able to make something that actually looks like a buttercup

And it’s gonna blow it up as well. There’s TNT, it’s armed! Impressive and I’m not just saying that because I love Mumbo. There is a lot of mobs making some noises down here. Oh. So my job in all this was pretty tame, right? My job is to cover this

In a big pot of some kind. I have to hide this bot, now that it’s done, in a pot just like the goat is hidden in that barn. But you know, that contribution is it’s not that exciting. I’m gonna have to go and get some terracotta and build four walls around this thing.

So I’ve actually come up with my own thing that I didn’t agree to in the meeting. What I’ve got is a whole bunch of yellow wool and I’m gonna hit Doc where it really hurts. The perimeter is about to get a make over that I guarantee you no one will be impressed by.

Doc will absolutely love what I’m about to do. I’m gonna graffiti, I’m gonna write a message right here that goes all the way down and I’m just gonna try and spruce it up because this place like it just isn’t living up to the expectations of what you would think as a home.

It certainly- It doesn’t make me laugh and it’s just lacking some love. So [sighs] I should just remind Doc to live a little, to laugh a lot and to love everyone. [laughs] We’re gonna write some “Live, laugh, love” on his wall. He’s hitting me with big old machines and TNT,

I’m hitting him with the emotional “Live, Laugh, Love” damage. So let’s do two in one. We’re gonna cover up the bot in a pot and we’re gonna write “Live, Laugh, Love” on the side of the perimeter. Let’s go! [MUSIC] You know, building in cursive is surprisingly diffic-

Actually no, I knew it would be difficult. I didn’t know it would be so difficult that it would take several hours but here we are, we got Live, Laugh, Love. But I don’t know if I’ve pranked myself here because although this is a bit of a meme

And we all have a little laugh and live and laugh about this. It has actually made the perimeter much more homely. So I don’t know if I’ve- I’ve just pranked myself a little bit here or what’s the deal because that looks great,

Forgetting that it says “Live, Laugh, Love” for a second, that actually looks pretty incredible and it’s genuinely brightened up the perimeter which I guess depends on Doc’s reaction. If he’s going for this like skull and bone vibe over here and we got “Live, Laugh, Love” looking very cosy.

I think we can make this place cosy-er but this one in particular, I’m just proud of how well I’ve done with the font. I had such a hard time designing this and it took me a long time to figure out that I needed to put some blocks behind it

To give it some depth because it wasn’t working as one flat wall. So if you ever, for some reason, find yourself building cursive in Minecraft this is how you do it. You do the basic outline on one layer and then you basically drop shadow it with another layer

And that’s what gives it that sort of intricate lining and makes it look a lot less clunky. Never thought that I’d be learning some new techniques because of “Live, Laugh, Love”. But at least I’ve now actually contributed to this whole buttercup operation. You know, I did built the pot here

But it- You know, it is just a pot. It’s not all that exciting. It is just a pot. If we have a look inside it, yeah it’s just a pot and Mumbo is gonna have to like, you know, wire this up, I can’t even do that.

I don’t know which part of this machine even sets it all off. It looks like we are prepared for the bot off. As soon as Doc releases his bot, we release our bot and everything goes swimmingly and we can all live, laugh and love about this as much as we like.

Also I wanna point out, I don’t know how often sniffers dig up plants. I think it’s like every eight minutes or so but Goateater is a machine! Goateater has been, every time I come up here, there is another one and look, look at that! Nine seeds, oh no wait there’s another one.

Yeah ten seeds and I guess I’ve been going at this cursive writing for a while but you’re doing well Goateater. You are holding your weight in this group. So anyway, that is it for this episode. It was a nice change of pace

Mixing it up and going and helping another Hermit with their project and of course I’m just- I’m like equally ashamed and proud of how good this looks. I spent way too long- [laughs] I spent way too long on this to the point where I don’t know whether I pranked myself.
