HermitCraft S9#12: Ice Road Truckers

Foreign oh we got him okay let’s keep it keep it smooth keep it smooth as long as we rock it like within every second it will be fine I’m pretty sure and as long as we don’t lag try to level out here basically keep the Rockets going

And I want to get like an angle of 15. okay about there’s good and now if we stop rocketing it should just balloon with us here and I just gotta make sure I’m going the right way here looks like we’re on a pretty good course

Now if I go below like a 40 degree angle there’s a chance it’ll detach from the lead so oh he’s gone come on really oh it was going so good hey what’s going on everybody this is Etho and welcome back to hermitcraft so the server just recently upgraded to Minecraft 1.20 and

We got all the cool fun new features to play around with on the server I just went on a little Adventure here to collect a bunch of mud for a project we’re working on at a mangrove and on the way I decided to hit up any new 1.20

Stuff I found and I found a lot of it actually I found camels which we don’t talk about uh found the new Trail runes as well my first one explored that got the the shirts out of there and there’s two uh smithing templates so you can get

Unique to that as well and then I found some sniffer eggs got the cherry blossom trees got the mud as well so we’re we’re over here building up I found out I never knew this if you position the camera right you can build faster so watch this if I’m building like this

This is my speed if I hold right click if I angle it up just a little bit look at that it’s so much faster yeah so we got a big giant ugly mud box next to our base now which we’re gonna have to decorate and somehow blend into our

Terrain and stuff but we don’t have to worry about that actually because that’s a problem for future Etho today all we’re worried about is getting a creeper Farm up and running because a couple months ago I got a whole ton of gunpowder from corelis and from Doc yam

But I’ve pretty much used it all up and now Etho very sad because I don’t have TNT so we gotta get this thing going real quick here basically the way this creeper Farm is gonna work we’re gonna have cats in the middle of our spawning platforms here the creepers will spawn

On the packed mud they see the cats and then they’re like oh I gotta get away and they’ll run away and they’ll fall down the trap doors here and get killed down below I realize this might seem counter-intuitive possibly even foolish but I’m gonna put carpets

Over top all the Moss here to prevent any mobs from spawning in our mob farm the reason for the the moss on the outside these two blocks all around is just to give the creepers somewhere to pathfind to because if they didn’t have that when they would spawn on this

Platform they would run to the edge of this and be like oh I don’t want to go on those trap doors and they’ll just they’ll freeze here but if they see those two blocks on the outside they’ll be like oh I can go over there and they’ll try go there they’ll

Fall down the trap doors and die so we don’t want mobs spawning on this Moss though because if they did the cats wouldn’t encourage them to fall off the platform in any way they would just the only chance of them dying would be if they just randomly with their AI happen

To wander off uh where the trap doors are we don’t want to leave it up to chance like that because more than likely they’ll just get stuck on the moss on the outside and then fill up the mob tap in our creeper Farm will slow down like crazy

So then we’re gonna build all the way to the top of our box here which is about 45 blocks tall and every three blocks we start a new level and then underneath the packed mud only we put trap doors to make it a little bit lower here creepers

Are shorter than skeletons and zombies so that only allows the creepers to spawn here you know obviously I’m not gonna forget about adding spider blocking or anything like that and then build the whole thing and add it later no no that’s not my style I don’t I

Don’t just build stuff on the fly like this um oh dear okay we got a major flaw with the farm design it seems I got it all finished up tested it out a little bit and basically what is happening let’s see if we can spot it

Oh yeah right there you see that we got gunpowder sitting around the trap door what’s happening is the creepers are falling down and they can fit between this trapdoor and this one they hit one of them and then their drop their gun powder uh either lands down in

The water below which is fine or it hits lands on the Moss here or it lands on the packed mud and basically just these spawns on us and we lose it and that’s happening to like every single creeper especially lower down you see there’s more of it I’m gonna have to put trap

Doors underneath all these all the way up and then when we flip them down that will prevent them from fitting between this trapdoor and this one add another little issue where the creepers were getting stuck on the rim around the Drop of Doom so I replaced the rim with

Trap doors and then they just fell right down no problem aha all right very good we got the creeper Farm all finished up here and it seems to be running uh perfectly fine now no creepers getting stuck no drops getting lost and uh we’ll just take a final look here before we

Close it up forever but you can see we got the trap doors uh going all the way up I was a little bit nervous about adding trapdoors here because I wasn’t sure if it blocked their pathfinding but it doesn’t seem to um even though like they couldn’t

Actually walk to where the Moss is anymore they they sort of just ignore this row over here and try to walk through it so that’s great no problems with that and basically they fall down to the water here and then we got the Drop of Doom down to The Hoppers below

And then they die from Fall damage so that’s all good the only fly I can see with this Farm is maybe I should have built it a little bit bigger uh for my my own uses it’s fine but if I wanted to get crazy with it I should have maybe did like uh

Like a platform over there one over there and one over there like a two by two thing of platforms instead of a single one and then had the Moss all around the the four platforms per level but it would have taken a lot longer to

Build as well so I think this is fine if I need gunpowder this is kind of like a good AFK spot if I’m desperate for it otherwise it’ll just like trickle trickle in as I’m doing stuff around my bases which is what I will probably mostly be doing and uh that little bit

Will uh keep me going okay I found it I found it I found it oh the sign blew up uh Beatles mentioned to me in a call the other day that he left a dark spot at my base and I was like what’s the way I’ve never seen it before

Oh there’s another side okay wait a second maybe we can see what it says um I kept hearing spiders I thought oh is there a spider spawner down here what’s going on nope it’s the dark spot Venus left me thank you B-Dubs oh don’t blow up the sign

Of course I don’t have a shield okay let’s let’s check this out hi Etho needed dirt I’ll clean up later love B-Dubs yeah I’m sure you will let’s check this out so I mentioned in a video recently I really like the new flowers introduced in 1.20 but I feel

Like you can’t use them in every build because they’re so colorful like you don’t want them in Gray grayish builds right you want them in more colorful builds and I mentioned oh yeah monstrosity season seven these would have been perfect for that right because it was a super colorful build and then

In the comments you guys were like you know what Etho your current base is like made for them as well and I think you guys might be right about this especially this pitcher pod like we got so much blue in our builds yeah look at that that’s perfect

This is this is like the flower for this base honestly it’s a little weird looking which is what we’re going for it’s got the green at the bottom which goes with the Moss and that that light blue over there is like the color of the fire and the

Darker Blues is like this color and it’s got a little bit of lavender to it as well so it kind of mixes between the purple and the blue yeah I couldn’t have asked for a better flower honestly to go with this that’s incredible what about the other one the torch flower

We’re gonna be able to use that at all um possibly I feel like that orange really stands out so we got to be more careful how we use it while the the pitcher pod we can kind of just Spam everywhere on this season of Ice Road Truckers due to the

Calming of the polar vortex weather can change on the dime out here and many truckers have found themselves stranded after 23 hours of non-stop driving the Convoy has reached a dead end yeah you know these ice roads they they don’t always uh take you where you want to go

Sometimes they just melt and you can’t get get back home what are you gonna do I’m gonna have to sleep this one out and uh hopefully in the morning it’ll uh it’ll freeze and we can get we can get back I’ve been running up a 32 hour

Stretch and I guess I just dozed off and I hit some kind of speed bump and when I woke up I had been barreling down the middle of town and just lost control of my rig and uh yeah and luckily nobody got hurt meanwhile First Year Ricky

Trucker Etho has found himself in a very dangerous situation as he’s taken the wrong road and is now heading off course in Uncharted and untested ice roads ah yeah well you know it’s not how I wanted to spend my day today but you know it is

What it is and we’re just gonna have to deal with it and move on here but uh unfortunately that’s probably the end of my trekking season and uh at least I get to go home and and see my family I’ve been missing them you can count on it

Though next year ethos gonna be back better than ever I’m gonna learn from my mistakes and uh boy I just I just love the Trek in life I can’t get enough of it uh-huh yeah so I thought it’d be cool to do a few things around the boat race

Track that we’ve been building with Rendog I thought first stop here I just went and I did a rough mapping of the course we’ve built so far I don’t know about you guys but I’ve been struggling to understand like the shape of the course how big it is so

This is all the area we’ve built so far all mapped out we can get a nice visual representation of it so we are right now standing over here on the map this is the starting line you see where those arches are it goes underneath them and

Uh so it goes up this way this is the start of the race it bends around and this is all the part of the the track that Rendog has been working on and then he hit the glacier area with the polar bears where it opens up widely and is

Like okay where are we gonna go uh and I’ve been doing the other side of the the course here and it kind of just loops around the ice bite biome back around here and then to the village and then I also hit the glacier area and I thought okay I think

We made a u-shape with our course and we just need to connect the two ends together no turns out he’s all the way over here and I’m all the way over here complete opposite ends of the track Rendog is actually gone and laid out with like

Polka dot lines how to connect the two ends together now which is cool so it’s gonna kind of go over here and like like where I’m walking and it zigzags around a bit and then eventually connects to here I think let me show you the new section of road we got built here

There’s like a risk versus reward section here oh I missed it where basically if you can align the boat just right you can get a little shortcut here uh with the slime block launcher it’s actually a little tricky to do I can do it maybe like 50 of the time

Or if you ride on the the clay like that it’ll slow you down then it makes it a lot easier but yeah if you get up here you get a nice little shortcut through the center of town this used to be path blocks and I replaced it all with ice as

Long as you can stay on the road the narrow road here and not run into all the buildings and stuff on the way you’ll probably be a bit faster that way you also have like iron golems that run across the street and uh the villagers so if you run into those guys they’ll

Slow you down that’s a bit luck based right but uh you don’t want to leave it up to luck and skill you can take the safe route and just go to the right here which is a bit longer and bendier uh but it just goes around the village instead

And then you hit a fork in the road over here just like a diamond shaped thing of trees we can go either to the left or the right doesn’t really matter too much and then it merges back up to the snow golem section which we built last so

Rather than building new track today I thought we should focus on going back to the sections we built already and add more detail to them because I’ve been kind of doing quantity over quality with my track building but the idea I would eventually go back and improve it right

Um so for example just adding like patches of grassland and trees I think will make a major Improvement on our track like for example I don’t really want to see those Snow Golems as I’m coming up to them here so if we add a row of trees

There to kind of block the view of them I think that will be good because they’re distracting they kind of draw your attention when you should be focusing on the the track ahead right I’ve noticed like if you have trees it makes it feel like you’re going

Faster like you have a lot more blocks moving in your peripheral vision as you go by so it’s like you know when you’re like driving down a highway it doesn’t feel like you’re going very fast even though you might be going you know 60 miles per hour right but uh if you’re on

An Old Country Road you might be doing 50 miles per hour but it feels like you’re going a lot quicker because the trees are just whizzing by you now I don’t think we’re gonna be able to 100 mob proof the whole course but just by adding a bit of lighting in places will

Probably help a ton because you got to think too this is a long track like probably four or five minutes when it’s done to run the whole thing there’s a chance it’s gonna go into night time and then creeper is going to be running across the track if we don’t add a

Little bit of lighting to things no yellow flowers the big issue with lighting up the course though is it’s gonna melt the ice nearby which is a bit annoying so we have to sort of surround it with the blocks so I got an idea I want to try out here I’m putting Soul

Lanterns underneath the the ice in the water here below the track and that’s going to light up the edges they have a light level of 10 so it won’t cause the ice to melt and it might give it a cool glowing effect during the night time that will stop mobs from spawning as

Well I’m stuck let me out of here there we go how’s that look ah you can’t really see the soul lanterns I kind of I was hoping they’d be a little bit more visible um but it does glow the edges which is probably a good thing but it might be

More effort than it’s worth how’s it look from a distance yeah it does a good job at lighting up the edges for sure right but as as almost hoping for like an f-zero effect where the edges of the the course have like the glowy blue lights or

Something as well but you can’t really see it hmm yeah I don’t know about this I tried out the glow like in here it’s a very easy thing for us to use you don’t really have to think about it you can just Spam it I don’t have to go

Underwater to place it you know but for one thing it doesn’t light up the course as well oh hello uh it’s not as bright and also it just looks really terrible right I don’t think we should use it not a big fan of it I didn’t know you could

Water log this stuff oh that might change some things let’s see if it’s really noticeable because I don’t think it will be because we couldn’t see the soul lanterns right oh actually it is quite visible hmm foreign well I tell you what uh you guys might

Have had this thought as well when you saw me do this before but I kind of got the impression this shortcut might not have been all that much shorter than taking the safe easy route to the right there so I decided to change up our course here a little bit uh instead of

Cutting straight across where those trees are now you instead have to go into this cave area aha so I found a ravine over here which helped to cut down the amount of digging I had to do a little bit and I used TNT for the right

For another big portion of it but yeah this probably adds about three to five seconds it’s taking the safe routes and that the reason for that is just because I want to make sure if you do try to date the shortcut there it is a risk if

You miss it you lose a bunch of time but I want to make sure if you succeed you get properly rewarded yeah so both Rendog and I thought it would be a good idea to add some kind of signage to our road like if a turn is coming up maybe a

Signal if it’s a gradual turn if it’s a sharp turn a U-turn uh you know that kind of stuff some kind of roadside image would be cool now to do that I think Banners are going to be our best option but I’m just wondering how are we going to do that

Because you know you got some control with banners but there’s not like a ton of control oh wait a second there’s two different ones so this is like a third of the banner but there’s a one lower down here that’s like half the banner and then if we just draw a horizontal

Line on another one like this and then you put them together I think that’ll make an arrow kind of maybe not the best looking Arrow but probably this one now we gotta switch to red and then that’s so instead of uh this one we could use this one

I almost think that’ll look better you know I didn’t even think about it but there is a render distance on banners we have to be mindful of but it seems like it’s pretty pretty far can’t see it now we can okay so that’s I think with an acceptable range

Um so one thing is if we have multiple paths in our roads like these shortcuts and stuff that can create a lot of confusion with our track design where you know when someone leaves a shortcut here we don’t want them going right and going backwards on the track so we have

To establish some kind of rules to our signage here I think we’ll use this like straight arrow to indicate Direction and possibly gradual turns but then if we want to do like a Sharp 90 degree turn I think we’ll use this type of signage instead where it’s got this like

90 degree angle to it I think that’s pretty clear um it’s actually very easy to do as well so I’m doing the cross and then we blank out with the diagonal like that pretty simple right so now the next question is do we also add an extra

Horizontal line into that do you think that’ll look better or worse I’m not sure like we could also just do it like that I almost think I prefer the the minimalistic approach to it though I think maybe for the U-turn sign we’ll take this piece and this piece and put them together

Like this with a downward Arrow put that there put that there and you got yourself a U-turn and maybe I don’t know if it looks better with this or not but we could put that on too let’s do a little test run here shall we so I got a

Small section of the track hooked up with the signage and we’ll see what it’s like get a feel for it and then I want your guys’s feedback if there’s any way I can improve this let me know in the comments and I’ll I’ll take your suggestions and we’ll apply it to the

Rest the the track here um but so far I think it’s kind of cool we got a split sign there we got another U-turn coming up all right all right let’s get our U-turn going on I don’t know how helpful the signs are actually gonna be

Like if you can read them fast enough and all that stuff but uh they’re also kind of just there for decoration oh we got sharp turn 90 degree turn here oh and a gradual turn so I’m using these straight arrows for gradual turns and then uh another U-turn coming up okay okay

Yeah get the you going and I think that’s as far as I went yeah that’s it okay so next up here I think Rendog wanted me in charge of uh the Redstone for starting the race and stuff so we got to figure that out how we’re gonna

Do it I think he said he wanted the start line like over here though if I’m not mistaken which uh by the way this is really cool he made it super wide so when we start the race We’re not gonna be like right on top of each other

Nobody’s gonna be in front that has an advantage or anything um should be able to freely move around and pick where you want to start here and then you’ll naturally merge together as the course gets more and more narrow so I don’t want like a button here I

Don’t think because then someone might accidentally press it I’m thinking let’s put a Target block like one row ahead here and then you’ll shoot it with a bow to start the race um and I’m gonna put glowstone lamps so you know if you get the Target or not

And I can easily run Redstone underneath this and it’ll be hidden away you won’t see it right and then I think we’ll have like the starting line over here I don’t know if we’re gonna go for the Checker traditional look or what but uh something like this probably

Although I wonder if we’ll be able to shoot that even it looks like it’s pretty high uh I don’t know well that’s possible yeah yeah I think I might like it like this the most so the idea is we have these blocks on the ground to stabilize the

Boat so you’re not like going all over the place because if you don’t have solid blocks there and you’re trying to line up at the front here you’re kind of just like constantly moving if you’re holding forward okay so here’s the basic idea of what we got so far uh we’re

Gonna shoot the target block from behind the starting line to begin the race and then when we hit that it’s going to go through some long delay countdown thing probably several seconds I’m planning on adding a note block song to this most likely it’s just not in there just yet

Maybe some visual lights will count down as well or something like that at the top there uh but what that does is it goes to after the long delay it’s going to go to a monostable circuit here that branches up to the left and the right activates the power rails so this

Whole line gets powered and as well as this one and this way we can activate all these Pistons at the exact same time um so let’s give that a little try here because we want to make sure they go at the same time so it’s fair otherwise

Someone might get an advantage at the start here yeah we’ll go through the delay timer and then down they go race starts and the ice will be all the way up to here so you won’t fall through or anything now don’t be fooled everybody this is

Not your standard start to erase let me tell you no no no you might think oh you just you just line up here hold forward and you go right well that’s what we call the Newbie starts so we want to add some kind of skill factor to starting

The race here much like in a Mario Kart how you can time pressing the button just right when the race starts and you’ll get a boost out of the out of the beginning we want to do something like that as well so the idea here is we’re

Going to be allowed to move around however we want before the race starts behind the line like we don’t have to start at the line that’s that’s the Newbie start no we want to be moving around back here and we want to try time it so that as we approach the line right

As we approach it goes down so we get the maximum acceleration when the race begins um if we time it wrong we’ll be a little bit away from the line if we arrive too soon we’ll hit the line and we’ll stop so it’s going to be a timing thing and

We’ll have to listen to the note block tune playing and then and looking at the light it’s counting down all that kind of stuff we’ll hopefully add into this to make it interesting so let’s do a little test here see if I can pull it off

So we gotta shoot the targets I don’t have very long of a countdown on there right now so it’s kind of hard to show let’s see if I can get that oh first try so then you’ll go forward and then oh I was too soon so I hit the line and

Totally stopped now if I approached when the line was down we can just skim past those blocks here no problem and get a nice boost at the start you see how fast I’m going but anyways before we finish up this episode I thought we’d just take a quick little

Stroll through the shopping district to check out some of the new changes happening here uh first off with Mr B Double O he’s got a his main base like all finished up now which is looking pretty cool B-Dubs building is beautiful B-Dubs buildings as he does and he just

Added this new one over here creeper farm and a TNT shop I don’t think it’s quite open just yet but yeah look at that man B-Dubs always being a a big inspiration for the Minecraft Community right right uh here’s a little show-off honestly is what he is

Uh a lot of people compare this building to Fallout but it really reminded me of uh you know in Naruto the water City that Payne lives at with all the skyscrapers they really had that look to him as well uh which I thought that was

Kind of cool uh then we got hot guy over here or I’m I mean scar with his hot guy headquarters now open uh you know he’s been up to some some no good and and that kind of thing but yeah you can’t hold it against them for too long all

Right uh let’s let’s sneak past these guys yeah this place is pretty cool he’s got a bunch of uh specialized autographed hot guy artwork here you know you check in here he’s got his open house day he’s got uh his lady observers because he doesn’t care about server performance it’s always flashing um

Memorabilia with the PCG cards and uh his posters target practice lots of loud Arrow noises and slime block launchers and stuff I like these a lot though this uh this Aero Trail effect is pretty cool if you use a potion arrows and then you never let them stop moving they’ll never despawn

You can use it for like visual stuff I might do that use that a bit in the future is a cool idea um upstairs he’s got like armor and uh his special hot guy Bose but what we came up here for is this room here he’s got hot guy velocity

Lessons sign up here and we’re gonna throw our name down in the book oh boy okay it looks like it’s just covering myself so far here on the in the book hopefully more people will sign up and uh we’ll get specialized training from hot guy himself how cool would that be I

Don’t know what he’s going to teach us but uh yeah I think it’d be a fun date uh he’s got his volleyball court out here of course uh and that’s about it let’s see over further on here Mumbo has set up the button again um oh

Okay it was over here just a moment ago now it’s over here so does that mean we get this crown I think I should press this actually uh what does it say thousands of diamonds are in the machine and it’s gradually counting down when the health bar goes

To zero all the diamonds explode you must save them pressing the button to keep it alive okay so you have better rewards the further on it is here so we’re kind of like in the mid tier right now I think I’m gonna do it though because I haven’t pressed this before

Oh snap oh snappers cool cool uh-huh and then we got the royal red oh I like this one this one’s pretty cool I don’t think I showed you guys this before but Cleo has this really cool horse she built or maybe it’s a pony I don’t know uh over here and this

Uses the armor stand data pack we have on the server so basically you can place down invisible armor stands put items attached to them and like move around rotate them and if you’re very talented like Clio you can do cool stuff like this uh-huh I also wanted to show you the new

Trim Shop that jevin opened up I really like this he’s got all the armor sets and he’s got the name so you can kind of shop around and find the ones you like um it’s all visual right you can see which ones you want uh we got the eye I

Really like I think I might place an order for this the Vex one especially the helmet uh these like bushy eyebrows almost it might look like that I don’t know I think I might have to get that and then uh upstairs we got the rest of them here

There’s Razer I think I like the boots on this one Maybe and I actually kind of like the chest plate on this one yeah Ward oh this one’s crazy silence it might be a little bit too much so I don’t know it’s like mainly the other color

And then tied I think is what I’m wearing right now I actually like the boots on this one too and the armor I think it’s a pretty cool set oh check this out all trims are 12 diamonds each guess what we just got from the button
