Hello everyone my name is pixarius and welcome back to the minecraft survival guide i hope you guys are having a good day today we are going to take a look at a tool which has had a long and storied history and has often been overlooked until this update came along and Changed everything that’s right my friends today we are looking at the humble ho and this this is my brand new fortune 3 ho yes my friends i will explain why we have a fortune three ho in the course of this episode and show you the whole revolution that is happening Right under our noses because of course minecraft 1.16 the nether update has included a few new trees and we needed some way of chopping down those trees and getting the blocks from the canopies and where you might expect shias to be the weapon of choice for taking care of these blocks this Update thinks differently because warped and crimson fungi the huge fungi that you will find growing in warped and crimson forests have never worked blocks and warped wart blocks instead of leaves and shias while they do break the blocks obviously it is possible to break these blocks With more or less any tool as far as i’m aware shears are just not going to cut it pun intended because these are not really leaves and nether wart blocks had already been in the game but had no preferred tool for cutting them down so mojang took the opportunity to change Things up a little bit and now the ho is the recommended tool for taking care of nether wart blocks and warped wart blocks hose could always be enchanted with unbreaking and mending but now we have the opportunity to enchant them with things like efficiency fortune and even silk touch to be able To get hold of these blocks and with efficiency we are able to insta mine these blocks which is amazing because originally nether wart blocks took a super long time to break like they were a bit of a pain because you couldn’t break them with any of the other tools Now with an efficiency hoe it’s as simple as just swoosh over the top of them and then of course breaking the stems down with an axe because the stem blocks are intended to feel a little bit more like wood incidentally hoes are also the preferred tool for taking down shroom lights so You can strip everything about this tree down pretty quickly and just leave the stem ready to harvest with an axe which is going to make farming these things either in the nether or the overworld pretty darn easy but you may be wondering exactly why i have a fortune 3 Hoe when we do not get the crimson and warped fungus from these wart blocks in fact it seems kind of strange to have a fortune hoe in the first place but let me tell you there have been some changes to tree farming in this game as well and hoes are now Also the preferred tools for disposing of leaves but wait just a minute pixel riffs i hear you cry we already have a tool for getting rid of leaves they’re called shias you’ve even mentioned them already in this episode well yes i have a dear viewer but shias will Of course get you the leaf blocks themselves it is not possible to destroy the leaves using shears you will always have them drop as a block and from there you don’t really have all that many options in terms of getting these leaves to break and potentially gathering saplings For them you can use a fortune tool occasionally to get yourself a higher chance of sapling drops or sticks or apples or whatever it is you happen to want to get from these leaves but now we also have the option of using a hoe hoes are now the Preferred tool for breaking leaves and with an efficiency hoe you can break leaves just as fast as you can with a set of shears except this time considering i have fortune 3 on this as well we are breaking the leaves and getting ourselves some sapling drops And this is going to make it so much faster and so much easier to get hold of saplings which are troublesome to get hold of in particular fortuning dark oak leaves for saplings is going to be a good idea because every tree requires four saplings to grow likewise jungle Saplings have the lowest drop rate of any leaf block they will actually only drop about half of the time that drops from other trees wheels so you’ll find that harvesting jungle saplings gets a little bit tiresome if you aren’t using a fortune tool but now we have the Fortune ho you can do that super quickly and bear in mind that you will need efficiency on a relatively fast tool like iron diamond or in this case netherrite i’m fairly certain that gold hoes will work too but of course then you have the durability to contend with whereas of course a near The right hoe is going to have 2 000 durability plus the extra durability you’re going to get from having unbreaking on there you can pretty much be guaranteed a long tree farming session without the need to repair anything but we are about to take this one step further because i have a Diamond hoe in my inventory which if i can remember which of my villagers will trade silk touch i think it’s one of the first ones yep there we go got a book there for one emerald we can add unbreaking efficiency and silk touch to a diamond hoe And then we will have a diamond hoe capable of getting leaf blocks for us but pixarist this is madness i hear you cry we already have a tool for gathering leaf blocks you’ve mentioned it several times already in this episode it’s sheers and yes my friends but this is where the Durability comparison comes in because even with unbreaking three and mending a set of shears is still just made of iron and it only has 238 durability which with unbreaking 3 maybe doubling that still only means we can harvest about 500 leaf blocks enter a diamond or even a netherite hoe With silk touch which will gather you 2 000 leaf blocks even without unbreaking and suddenly we are cooking with gas suddenly we can spend longer and fewer resources if you have mending on a tool like this you will be able to spend longer harvesting leaves from trees and that will actually get You a lot more i think than just making multiple pairs of shears as you go with the silk touch hoe even with a diamond silk touch hoe efficiency 5 and unbreaking 3 this thing is going to chew through leaves like nobody’s business and still leave You with all the drops which i think is a really interesting upgrade to shias and it does not mean that shias are now invalid shares still have some remarkably useful applications you cannot sheer sheep with a hoe for example you can also not get rid of tripwire safely you also cannot i believe Take down cobwebs although maybe you can do that with a silt touch tool i can’t remember but i think you still require shears for that because she shias no longer can be enchanted with silk touch because that’s what you used to have to get cobwebs but now i think you can Only get cobwebs with shears so this does not remove all functionality from shears it just adds more of it to hose which previously you would only need a diamond hoe if you ended up hoeing an entire field of wheat like we’ve done here at the farmhouse another exciting factor in all of this And something we will probably dedicate more time to in future episodes is the fact that nether wart blocks and warped wart blocks can be composted and actually have quite a high rate of composting meaning that we’ll be able to produce quite a bit of bone meal with this which will potentially fuel A tree farm and i’m gonna throw a bunch of these into my auto composter over here which is normally linked up to these farms but i think i’ll just throw a couple of stacks in each of these and you’ll find that the bone meal starts getting generated Pretty quickly i like having this around but we are not yet done with hoes my friends no indeed because there are a few other blocks available to us for which hoes are now the preferred tool it’s not just netherwart warped wart leaves and shroom lights there are other things out there that Hoes are the preferred tool for dried kelp blocks can now be insta-mined with an efficiency hoe in fact i’m pretty sure they can be insta-mined with a hoe without efficiency as well if you have a naturally fast tool these are plant-based blocks after all and that Seems to be what the hose specializes in in this update along the same lines hay bales can now also be insta-mined with these hoes and of course while you’re probably going to hit a few of the crops around the outside if you put them in an area like this It is going to be nice to have something that will insta-mine hay bales in the need to take down or put up large numbers of them on the subject of hay bales there are brand new redstone blocks added in with this update four redstone around a hay bale will get you A target block and we’re going to be going into what target blocks do a little bit later in the series because these things are intended as targets for arrows but they do have other purposes besides and the hoe is now the preferred tool for picking these up as well last but certainly not Least sponges and wet sponges are now instantly mined by hose so we can pop one of those in there the water will reform around it to make a wet sponge and we can harvest this one with a hoe as a demonstration as well there we go a wet sponge placed down There and broken instantly with a hoe is going to make clearing out things like ocean monuments and large areas of water so much easier and so much more straightforward in addition to that of course we have the fact that sponges will now dry out in the nether as of the 1.15 update Meaning that you can just place down all of your wet sponges convert them instantly to dry sponges and then snap them all up again with an efficient hoe and you will be back to clearing out whatever body of water you happen to be draining at the time And believe me my friends all of this new functionality coming to the ho is going to be a huge difference in quality of life when it comes to tree farming when it comes to gathering the new resources from the nether and a few extra pieces of functionality besides i am Loving the fact that these things have a new lease of life in the 1.16 update and who knows maybe further down the line we will get even more functionality added to the hoe for now of course you can still use them for their intended original use which was To create farmland but while i could happily spend the rest of this episode farming up all of the new stuff that you can farm with hoes i figured it was time to take a break from that and take a look at walls now because walls have actually Gone through a bunch of pretty major changes in minecraft 1.16 which are going to make them infinitely more usable in builds than they were previously and it is going to change a couple of things about the ways people may have used them already but for now i think these are some really Really special changes so walls as you guys are probably familiar with look like this when they are just placed down on their own they have posts at either end which extend outwards connecting with this long sort of flat wall section in the middle and previously when you stacked these on top of each Other you would find that there were gaps in the walls here where the hitbox of the wall did not connect up even though a post was made in the center but now in minecraft 1.16 walls are now completely flat and do not have holes left in them when you connect them up Like this which is actually pretty special because if you look at the hitbox of a wall it actually indents a few pixels into the block making this effectively sort of like a vertical slab which is something people have wanted in the game for quite a long time Now obviously it’s not as easy as having a single slab or a stair block or something like that walls do have to be connected to something at either end but now this also does not have to be a wall if we end up placing some blocks here that the walls connect to You’ll notice the post disappears entirely if the topmost block of the wall is connected to something we can remove this block here and as you’ll see that recreates the post because it has to connect to this block at the bottom here and leave this section of the post open but once We connect the entire wall up you’ll find that the post disappears and that just leaves a connection directly to the wall on that side and to the wall on that side as well which means a little bit of extra depth can be added to certain structures if you want to apply it Now of course as with many things in minecraft there is a bit of a catch because walls can be connected on four sides and while you’ll find that the flat wall shape remains if you only connect it onto opposing sides if we add something on the third side back here The post returns so we can’t just end up decorating my sugarcane building here with some walls on the inside and expect them to be completely flat because nope we end up with the post texture there because that is connecting to the wall behind if i was to take that wall out Which i don’t think breaks anything let’s find out i guess i can now fill that in with a completely flat section of wall inside there which is not too bad looking to be honest it keeps the shading that it has thanks to the fact that it is already Surrounded by other blocks and those blocks are kind of sticking out we’re going to put the andesite back in there for now because that’s not how i designed the building initially but you can see that there is some potential in this already in addition to that walls now connect to A lot more stuff than they used to so i’m gonna grab some glass panes i’m gonna grab some iron bars and we’re also gonna grab a couple of trapdoors as well because there’s some really interesting interactions with trap doors now let’s also for the sake of it test this out With spruce fences let’s grab some leaves and let’s grab something else i don’t know where can we go with this uh maybe some stairs something like that okay so let’s put up a wall here and let’s see what the walls now connect to because this is one of The really really exciting parts about this is that these flat walls like this can now also connect to things like glass panes boom and it connects all the way around the glass pane leaving a really slim connecting section there which makes the window feel like it is held in place By this whole section of wall and that will even work for slimmer sections of wall like this as well and if i put some logs on either side like so but but and bop there we go and one on the opposite side as well there we go we have a really nice Slim rustic looking wall with a glass pane perfectly in set into walls which are a few pixels back from the logs either side and this is going to bring in a new revolution in building i think with all of these walls being made available to people now obviously we Get a few changes that happen when you remove blocks of the wall like so but you’ll notice that the wall still comes out here to connect to the glass pane meaning that these glass panes can also appear suspended inside the walls like that and that is where we go With a few of the other things that i brought in my inventory here like iron bars for example same thing they’ve always functioned more like glass panes than they did fences but you can actually have a wall connect to iron bars in much the same way leading to maybe Some sort of dungeon build maybe a prison of some kind i don’t know we can see how that goes let’s see if that does the same with fences no it does not so we end up with fences having a slightly different gap either side but that makes for quite a nice Open window frame with a wooden brace on the inside of it and of course the walls above and below connect to the fence panel flawlessly so that’s nice and useful as well let’s see how things connect to stairs now as you’ll see connects on two sides there because those are the Completely flat sides but the other two sides remain open which again may have its uses who knows maybe a pvp arena maybe you can shoot through some of this stuff and then duck back behind it and hide but the fact is walls will now connect to the solid surfaces of certain blocks And not connect to the transparent surfaces it is smart enough to know the difference between the two and that is very very cool trap doors are kind of an interesting case because of course you cannot have trapdoors connecting to anything that is not the surface of a full block or they Have to stand adjacent to the surface of a full block like this one here does so we can’t really use a trapdoor as a window in one of these walls because it just hangs out too far away from the hitbox of the wall itself however when we want to start using trapdoors as Detail you will notice that when we have this open like that the wall does not connect to it in any way but when you close it up there we go a connecting piece of the wall appears when it is flush against the flat surface of the back of the trap door and once Again that leads to some really interesting details being created here and it will still connect up to a glass pane in the center meaning that these trapdoors will no longer hang out on the front of these builds unsupported by anything if you want to use them this way Then the wall will react to that and it will be able to produce a connecting piece if we open the f3 debug screen here and take a look at the parameters that it’s tracking about this wall you will see that it has north south east and west parameters here which are Tracking whether or not it has connections you’ll notice the up parameter is also there and is currently set to true watch what happens when i open this trap door and take a look at that again up is false which means it’s not connecting to something above which has A pillar section like this and this is actually something that you can track with an observer which i’ll go grab from my redstone chest here and give you guys a quick example now naturally it’s not going to do much if we place the observer in front of This wall because then the wall is going to connect to the face of the observer itself this is a remarkably consistent behavior and even where it would be really useful like if you had an observer detecting the base of the wall here it is potentially going to connect to the Block so what we want to do instead is connect it to the underside of the block because the game is not tracking whether there is something below this wall only if there is something on all four cardinal directions and above it now if we end up moving this trap door you will notice Because the block state there changes this observer is actually going to emit a redstone pulse we’ll see it briefly here with the redstone dust if you caught that and if you didn’t i’ll put a redstone lamp here but connected to this block here so that You can see when we flip that trap door the observer is registering the change in state of that bottom block of the wall and that lamp turns on and what the redstone community recognized about this long before i even had the chance to interact with any of this stuff Is that this is a really great way of transferring a redstone signal vertically now because redstone will not go down the side of blocks you have to staircase it down a lot of the time but what you can do now is have something at the bottom of this wall here tracking when Something at the top of the wall changes so once we close this trap door here this entire section of wall is going to change into this pillar formation on the side here that’s going to trigger the observer and the observer is going to activate this piston pushing the gold block upwards like that And that is a vertical redstone travel which is very very cool also a kind of wireless form of redstone for the most part because it’s not using redstone dust itself and now we can obviously reverse that to do exactly the same thing again very very interesting and something that we can potentially use For future redstone contraptions as well as for building walls are now completely different to how they used to work before and it’s going to take a little bit of getting used to but i think this improves the game tenfold along with that consider the sheer amount of Materials we now have access to making walls out of and i think walls have become a much more diverse material than they ever were and hopefully we’ll have a chance later in the series to check out more interesting builds that we can make with these brand new walls but i think That is where we are going to wrap up this episode of the minecraft survival guide looking at you from behind this wall folks hope you enjoyed the episode don’t forget to leave a like on it if you did subscribe if you want to see more And i’ll see you guys soon take care bye for now You Video Information
