Hello everyone my name is pixariffs and welcome back to the minecraft survival guide i hope you’re all having a good day today we’re gonna go out and look at our transport options around here by which i mean probably tamer horse but in the meantime i have a couple of bits of Business i want to take care of before we set out on that particular adventure first of all i need to repair my diamond x and looking at it in the anvil right now we could put three diamonds worth of repair into this but it’s not going to Refill the x’s durability the whole way so what i’m thinking about doing is just crafting a fresh new diamond axe let’s throw down a crafting table so we can do that that’s going to take three diamonds in order to get the entire tool and if we combine these two it’s just a mere Two levels to fully repair our diamond axe that’s been such an effective workhorse tool in chopping down all of these trees the next thing i’m going to do is repair my bow because this bow is clearly on its last legs as well and i think i’m probably going to want to put Unbreaking on this bow as well since unbreaking isn’t on there right now and that’s possibly the reason that it’s run out of durability quite so quickly i tend to use the bow a lot in some of the caves in minecraft 1.18 simply because there is such a wide open space and it’s Easy to spot mobs at a distance the reason i’m coming over to the fishing shack for this is because we have a bunch of bows that we fished up while i was fishing for enchanted books in the previous episode and some of these might have some useful enchantments on now Unfortunately we can’t add the mending enchantment to this bow because mending and infinity cannot be put on the same bow it is the only tool that can’t have mending as if the bow already has infinity and you may want to choose between the two which one you prefer but Personally i prefer to keep infinity on my bow because otherwise i would run out of arrows a little bit too quickly and carrying around multiple stacks of arrows even in my ender chest seems like a bit of a waste of space to me compared to having infinite arrows and a decent Amount of durability naturally combining these two tools the unbreaking bow and the bow we’ve been using so far is going to take a little bit of levels and it’s not going to restore that much durability because they each only have a little bit of durability left so i’m Going to craft myself another bow we might actually put this one in the enchantment table first to see if we can get a decent enchantment on it at a lower level power one unbreaking one flame okay and so we don’t have 30 levels so we can’t go for this flame Enchantment and see if we get anything else so what i’m going to do first is repair this bow entirely for two levels and then add unbreaking on it that way hopefully this repair shouldn’t cost too much because we’re not trying to repair durability on this bow anymore it’s just Going to be combining the enchantments but the more you repair an item the more costly it will get to repair in future up to the point where the enchantment cost reaches above 39 levels and it becomes too expensive to repair at that point you’ve probably got to enchant a New bow from scratch if you use infinity the way i do which is one of the advantages of using mending on your bow but the way i see it i prefer infinity because right now this bow has 384 durability and with unbreaking 3 it has up to 1200 durability because unbreaking Three typically means your tools last four times as long so effectively with one arrow in my inventory i could fire about 1200 arrows without ever having to go and get more that’s kind of the idea behind infinity for me anyway with those tools repaired and our inventory looking A little bit happier as a result i’m going to head out i think in this direction because that way there is a nearby plains biome and actually i’ll drop off my diamonds before i do and we’re going to grab a little bit of wheat from our wheat field which has Been growing down here for a little while i have occasionally gone back and fed the cows if i need to breed them up for a little bit more steak but bringing some wheat with us is going to help us tame a horse we’re also going to need to Bring a saddle of course and i have plenty of those from fishing as well as the ones we found in dungeon chests and we might as well bring some horse armor like the ones that we found in the last episode i’m not sure where i ended up Putting the iron horse armor but i’ve got this gold horse armor from the nether we’ll take that with us as well and with that we can walk through the forest to the north until we find the plane’s biome and hopefully there should be some horses around that we can tame Here we are out on the plains kind of to the north east of our base and over there is the pillager watchtower that we’ve seen a couple of times in the distance and just to the right of it there are some horses so horses can be found out here in plains biomes you’ll Also find them spawning in the savannah biomes like the ones that we found near the jungle so if you’re in the market for a horse a plains or a savannah is the place to be and we probably want to stay a little clear of this pillager watchtower so hopefully it won’t Interfere with us as we approach these horses now horses often have different markings and this one’s walking away from us but that one’s got white socks and kind of a blonde mane to it it’s also got a white stripe between its eyes which it can’t show us right now this One over here is a little bit of a darker brown and basically the horse’s markings are just there so you can identify which horse is which it doesn’t really say anything about their stats or whatever this one seems to be a good climber though and the thing to remember When you want to tame a horse is to tame it with nothing in your main hand you can still be holding a shield or something in your offhand but i’m going to take that out for visibility here and we’ll take a nice screenshot of this one as it stands over here above the Pillager watch tower because that might make for a good thumbnail so with an empty hand we should be able to right click on this horse and it’s immediately going to throw us off because taming horses is kind of a longer process it will take a while for a horse to get Familiar with you and if you want to you can try taming it a couple of times by right clicking on it and it’ll take longer and longer to throw you off if it’s getting a bit more used to you and eventually those heart particles will appear that means the horse is now yours We have tamed a horse for the first time and right now we can’t ride it anywhere because this horse is not saddled i’m trying to press the wasd keys and the horse isn’t moving at all but if we open our inventory by pressing e you’ll notice that this is now the inventory of The horse alongside the player inventory you don’t get the armor gui and the crafting interface but you do get the inventory of the horse which right now only has slots for a saddle and some armor so we can equip both of those right now and as you can see i’m now Able to determine which way the horse faces and control it with the wasd keys i don’t really have a good grasp of how fast horses are since it’s been a while since i’ve last used them in minecraft but it seems to be moving at a decent Pace and if we press sprint it will move a little bit faster so always good to have a horse that can sprint a little way jumping on horses is a little bit different to jumping as a player as i hold down the space bar you’ll notice The bar at the bottom of the screen where our xp bar used to be now fills up with a jump meter and if you hold it until it gets into the little orange zone at the end there your horse will be able to jump a little bit higher than Average so we can probably set up a quick obstacle course to put this horse through its paces and see how high it can jump let’s see if it can make it over two blocks and maybe even three blocks the two block one seems pretty obvious at this point we can probably Get over that with just a standing jump yeah without any of the jump boost applied to it now let’s see if with a boosted jump yes it can get up to three blocks high i doubt it will make four though that seemed to just be barely three blocks tall which isn’t too bad Horses have three statistics that you really want to be aware of as you’re taming one the first being speed which is kind of difficult to measure unless you’re setting up a redstone contraption to do that or you have an in-game speedometer that’s applied by a mod or Just by comparing it side by side with other horses and seeing which one feels faster the second stat is the jump height and some horses have a pretty pitiful jump height they won’t even be able to jump over a fence whereas this horse has a pretty decent jump it can Jump up to three blocks high and the last one is the health of the horse you’ll notice that on the right hand side there what’s normally our hunger bar gets replaced with the health of the horse itself and right now this horse is looking like a pretty sturdy horse at 10 Hearts so as horses go i think this one is a pretty good all-rounder and i’m pretty happy with this one actually i might end up taking this one back to our base and using it to explore a little further because naturally horses are a good way of exploring the world they’re Much faster than the players sprint especially if you get a faster breed of horse they can walk or run up single blocks instead of having to jump like the player does and much like sailing around in a boat riding a horse does not deplete the player’s hunger meaning that You don’t have to worry too much about taking a ton of food with you if you’re going on a longer journey one thing to be aware of of course especially since the landscape around here is a little craggy horses are prone to the same kind of accidents that players might be and If you end up falling from a high place your horse is going to take full damage potentially die and you might end up getting killed in the process horses are also not lava proof so be careful of any ruined nether portals or lava lakes that you happen to encounter be wary of any Ravines and it’s also a little bit difficult to cross rivers with a horse since in one block high water they’ll be absolutely fine in two block high water they’re also okay but as soon as the horse’s head sinks below the surface and the player gets submerged as well the Horse will push you off and that way you can both rise back up to the surface and the horse will be fine from that point on but it can be a little bit difficult crossing rivers combat is still possible from horseback you can still use a sword And shoot a bow from a horse and even though it looks like you’re aiming at the back of the horse’s head you won’t be able to shoot the horse while you are riding it which means it’s a pretty useful thing for riding away from other mobs now we’ve got a few more horses Over here as well i can just look between the the ears of my horse to see some of the others and you’ll see a variety of patterns in this little herd over here we’ve also noticed that over here on the plains there are some donkeys so donkeys are basically a Variant of horses but with a couple of significant differences first of all they should be tamed in much the same way this donkey’s looking at side to side a little bit and the reason i brought the wheat with me is that you can actually speed up the process of Taming a horse or a donkey by feeding them a little bit of some of their favorite foods they like wheat they like apples they also like sugar these are all fairly accessible to the player and the more you feed them the lower the chance is that they’re going to rear up And throw you off so after a couple of attempts here this donkey should be ours but honestly sometimes it doesn’t really have that much of an effect it’s all just a random chance about whether or not the donkey ends up liking you there we go we ended up with a donkey anyway Now unfortunately i only have one saddle so if i want to ride the donkey to demonstrate this i’m going to have to take the saddle off of my horse and you can hold shift and right click to access the horse’s inventory without saddling up and riding the horse so we’re just Gonna leave this one roaming around with the gold horse armor on and we’re gonna come back to it later when we want to head home meanwhile our tamed donkey has much the same inventory but notably without the armor slots so you cannot arm a donkey typically they are fairly Hardy creatures they have a decent amount of health to them and their speed when you tame a donkey from the wild is always the same they’re always a little bit slower than the average horse is they’ll probably still get you about a little bit faster than walking pace as a Player and you don’t have to worry about the deficit in hunger but generally speaking donkeys are not all that fast the advantage to donkeys however is saddlebags if you have a chest and you right click on the donkey with it you can equip that chest to the donkey and That’s why horses have a little bit of extra inventory gui it’s because donkeys and mules if you breed a horse and a donkey together can be equipped with chests which allow you to store a bunch of extra stuff in and this chest remains on the animal even if you unequip the Saddle meaning that that donkey is pretty much always an extra inventory for you and this donkey is exactly an example of what i was talking about with the poor ability to jump much the same as it’s not able to get up any good speed even with a maxed out jump bar This donkey is unable to make it over two blocks of wood now interestingly enough if you breed two donkeys together and i have zero idea where the other one went there we go if you breed two donkeys together the resulting baby can have a slightly faster speed and this Kind of goes hand in hand with horse breeding mechanics as well typically if you breed two horses together then the offspring will take on some of the characteristics of their parents if it’s a particularly healthy parent and a particularly fast parent then the resulting offspring will probably end up Being reasonably healthy and reasonably fast but the way that works is it takes the statistics of the two parents and then combines them with statistics of a completely randomized set of horse stats meaning that a lot of the time you won’t always end up with a horse that gets Exponentially better there is a bit of a ceiling at which point the horse isn’t going to get any better than it started as and so whether it’s a horse or whether it’s a donkey you’re never going to end up with a horse that’s going to travel around at absolutely lightning Speeds unless you get really lucky and happen to start with a really really fast horse now obviously having tamed these two and only brought one saddle we can only bring one of them back to the base with us and if we were to come back To this place it might be a little bit difficult to tell which donkeys we had tamed and which ones we hadn’t of course we could just right click on it and then if it threw us off automatically then we would know it was the donkey that we Hadn’t tamed the one over there but in this case we can probably take the saddle off it but leave the saddle bags on and that way we can be certain that that’s our donkey when we come back because it’s clearly got some chests attached to its flanks over here with This horse we’ve added some armor to it and horse armor is something that you can’t really use for a great deal else in the game so if you bring some horse armor with you you can pretty much always guarantee that the horse with the armor is the one that you’ve tamed Previously since it’s impossible to equip armor on a horse that you haven’t but honestly the difference between the horse and the donkey right here is night and day it’s really quite obvious that the horse is much faster and can jump a lot higher so yeah i think we’re going To be taking this horse back with us to the base we’ll leave the donkey here we haven’t left any inventory in the chests here if we wanted to get those chests back by the way the only thing you can do is to kill the donkeys so that chest Is affixed to this donkey pretty much permanently at this stage but no worries we’re going to come back for the donkey a little bit later for now we’re going to ride back across the plains and we’ll see how easy it is to get home noting of course that there are several ravines And caves and some pretty treacherous terrain between here and home i think the most difficult part though is going to be when we get back into the forest because of course even though the horse is riding at a pretty decent pace if we run into solid blocks it’s not going to Be able to phase through them the player might be able to end up with their head in the space of the leaves and that’s a really awkward angle to show you that from actually but yeah as a player you can clip through the leaves a little bit If you’re on horseback however if you end up encountering a solid block in front of that it’s not going to let the horse phase up through the solid blocks so it’s gonna be a little bit tricky picking a path back through this forest over here when it comes to a river like This you have a couple of options you can probably find a narrow point of the river by exploring a little bit further and so i’m gonna make my way through the forest over here find this narrow patch of the river and then attempt to jump the river at its narrowest point let’s See if we can build up a little bit of speed and there we go we made it to the other side of course your other options are to wade in and then when you inevitably get thrown off the horse you can nudge the horse to the side if you Want to but unfortunately horses cannot be put in boats horses are one of the few animals that if you throw a boat down they’re just going to walk right over it they’re not going to interact with the boat in any way or end up Getting into the boat and so it can be a little bit difficult crossing rivers with them yep in this case the river was just a little bit too wide but we are basically back at the house now so i’m just going to nudge the horse up onto a Block hopefully it’ll end up on land and there we go we just about made it now we can sink down onto that block and get riding again perfect the birch forests are a little bit easier to run through than the regular forests because the birch trees don’t all reach the ground In the same way that the oak trees do and there we go we are back at the house and here we’re actually going to dismount the horse grab a couple of things and we’re going to make a lead because leads are one of the essential things when dealing with animals like This and in fact you can use a lead on multiple types of animals not just horses but i think with horses it’s pretty essential to have a lead around because if we place down a fence post we can tie the horse to this fence post to make sure it doesn’t wander off because Right now the horse’s natural ai is going to take over and it’s just going to go wherever it wants if we hold a lead in our main hand or right click on the horse it’ll attach it like so and we can basically pull the horse around a Little bit we can drag the horse in the direction that we want it to go and it’ll follow us now if we right click on this fence post the horse is tied up and can only walk around in a certain radius from the fence post if it tries to Overextend the lead it just won’t be able to walk any further than that and that will guarantee that the horse is going to stay here so that we can collect it in the morning if we want to untie the horse from its current hitching post we just need to right Click on that and the lead will bust off and we can pick up the horse with the lead and move it around or just right click on the horse to get back on it and leads are basically your third and probably best option for guiding a horse Across a river because if i bring the horse down to the water side here we can basically bob our way across the river like so dragging the horse with us and the fact that we have depth strider on our boots means we can move pretty fast And the horse’s speed will speed up a little bit to match where we are and that is what’s going to allow us to take this horse a little bit further afield because i think we want to use this horse to explore further out into the distance and maybe go look for a village In a future episode for now though i think i’m going to tie the horse up at the fisherman’s shack just so the horse can hang out on top of these bushes i guess and we’re going to remove the saddle from the horse so that we can go And find that donkey again because i feel like bringing the donkey back here as well here we are back at the planes where the donkey was and ironically it took me quite a while to get here it would have been better if i was riding a Horse now we can re-saddle up the donkey since i brought the saddle with me like so and we can ride the donkey around as well while we’re here i might actually check the contents of this ruined nether portals loot chest seeing as it did have one around here which we can grab and Looks like it’s got a few gold ingots in there a couple of gold tools with curse of vanishing okay i’ll have to explain curses at some point we don’t need to worry about that for now i think i’m gonna leave the rest of this here and maybe we’ll take that block of gold Actually that’s kind of too inviting to pass up i’ll grab a couple of blocks of netherrack from the surroundings block off the lava like so and make sure there’s no lava underneath the block of gold as we all there we go we got we got lucky that that didn’t immediately go in The lava source block there anyway while we’ve been doing that the donkey has wandered off but we can throw the gold in its little satchel here and we’ll probably throw in some of the other stuff that i’ve got on me note that even though your player inventory is Invisible while you’re looking at the donkey’s inventory you can hit f to move that shield into your off hand if you need to block arrows from on horseback although chances are the arrows are probably going to hit the donkey instead of hitting you donkeys and horses of course are not invulnerable that’s why They have a health bar so you need to be a little bit wary of that if you get into combat especially considering that we got both of these next to a pillager outpost where those crossbowmen are waiting for us so i have a feeling this donkey is going to have a harder time Crossing some of the rivers around here but that’s not a problem because we’ve brought a lead with us this time we can even place a boat in the water attach the donkey to a lead and row away and the donkey would still be able to follow Us in the water when this donkey woke up he probably didn’t know that he was going to be water skiing but that’s the way it’s turned out so now we’re going to ride all the way back to our house at a bit more of a leisurely pace than we Did with the horse but we’re here and we make our way through the birch forest we can hitch the donkey up by our house so naturally horses and donkeys end up with their advantages we end up with a faster and higher jumping horse that can’t have An inventory or we have a donkey that has a chest saddlebag that we can use to store a bunch of stuff if we want to go long distances and honestly breeding together donkeys so that you start getting a faster donkey might be the best solution long term but there is one Last thing that we can do in this episode breeding a donkey and a horse together results in a mule as i mentioned earlier and the thing that we need for breeding two horses two donkeys or a donkey and a horse together is either a golden apple or a golden carrot Now players will typically opt for golden carrots simply because they’re cheaper but i don’t actually have any carrots yet in this world i’ve been unable to find them as i’ve been exploring and a lot of the time they will end up getting dropped by a zombie As a rare drop i don’t have one of those either i do have some golden apples but if you consider the recipe to make a golden apple is eight gold ingots around an apple so if we wanted to make one of those it’s pretty expensive whereas the Recipe to make a golden carrot is one carrot and eight gold nuggets so not even a full gold ingots worth of nuggets it is a little bit less expensive to get hold of some golden carrots and so what i think i’m probably going to do is head Back out to the north where i know there is a shipwreck relatively close to the plane’s biome that we’ve been exploring and occasionally in the food chest of a shipwreck there is the potential for us to find some carrots and while it would be a great idea to Ride a horse over here to kind of show the point of the episode the shipwreck is pretty much in one corner of this ocean of course what i’m also relying on here is that this shipwreck has a food chest at all because shipwrecks come in all different shapes and sizes they Don’t always have all three of the chests a shipwreck could potentially have so let’s dive into this compartment from the top and this one is probably going to contain yes a buried treasure map and some feathers and paper we’ll come back to buried treasure for its own Episode because i think it will be worth looking for that in future when we can discuss more of that in here we have a chest containing a bunch of loot but unfortunately it looks like this shipwreck does not have the food chest so we’re not going to be getting carrots From here we’ll have to look further afield this is our first emerald though so it’s exciting to have one of those at last we can find emeralds elsewhere in the world but you may occasionally find them in loot chests like this one while i was rowing over here i noticed a Structure over in this direction which we should hopefully be able to dive down to and see what it has although these are populated by the drowned the waterlogged zombies that we’ve occasionally seen as we’ve been exploring i heard one gurgle as i came towards this and this drowned ruin Occasionally has loot chests in that might also have items like carrots and wheat and things so let’s dig down to this it’s got a little bit of wheat it’s got another emerald and even has a fishing rod in there but it’s a rod with curse of vanishing so we’re gonna leave That where it is and it looks like we’re gonna have to find our food somewhere else you know what though since we know that there is a zombie spawner down here i was thinking it might be quite fun to tunnel back down to the cave that we Explored in the last episode and since the zombie spawner down there maybe we’ll fight a few more zombies gather a bit of xp in the process and see if we can get some carrots as a rare drop from them i should just need to head on back Through to the end of this cave i think in this direction and then around well there’s a couple of zombies in here already but they’re not coming from the spawner they’re just naturally spawning in the dark spaces of this cave yeah maybe i should light up some of this Upper area so we don’t get surprised from behind by some of these zombies and creepers and oh i’m glad i did because we just spotted some more diamond ore fantastic let’s break this out a little more and let’s fortune this while we’ve got it here incredible six diamonds from Three or let’s quickly mine around to see if we found any more but i think that’s probably going to be it for that one now if we break out some more of the area around this spawner to give them a little bit more space to spawn we should Be able to reactivate it by breaking the torch and the zombies are gonna pour out of this thing we’ll discuss the ins and outs of it later but zombie spawners like this can be a really useful thing to set up as an xp farmer a source of Near infinite loot so i think we’re probably going to return to either this or some of the other spawners that we found in order to prepare them for a full mob spawner setup in the near future for now though we’re just going to knock out the torch and immediately Zombies are going to spawn incredible okay well let’s take out a bunch of these and hopefully sooner or later one of them will drop a carrot well that’s incredible one of them just dropped a potato as i was finishing saying that and oh i forgot these things can spawn Baby zombies as well if we need a break of course we can always step away from the spawner because while it’s dark like this once we’re 16 blocks away it won’t spawn anything so if i want to turn off the spawner all i need to do is wander Back into the cave a little way and let’s throw a little bit of stuff in our ender chest since my inventory is getting a little full here we’ve got that potato so that’s our first rare drop crop from the zombies let’s break the ender chest again if these bats Would get out of the way and back to the spawner for another chance add a carrot well that one dropped an iron ingot which is another rare zombie drop but not the one we wanted and occasionally these zombies are even dropping the armor that they’re wearing but a golden Chest plate isn’t much use to me although if we wanted to we could set up a furnace since gold armor if it’s not used could be smelted down into a gold nugget and there we go we can set that up while the rest of these zombies are Pouring out of the spawner and still no carrots but at least we got one gold nugget that we can use to craft the golden carrots well i’m glad we got the potato but i’m about ready to give up on this method i’ve been doing this for About half an hour and still no carrots but it’s not like i haven’t been getting rare drops from these zombies i’ve got five iron ingots we have a potato stash in the end of chest i have over three stacks of rotten flesh now and my sword Is starting to wear down to a stub we have 31 levels on deck though so i could always go and enchant a sword maybe a new sword actually at this point with looting three and then maybe that would increase my chances of getting a carrot Drop from a zombie but at this point i’m honestly ready to breed the two of them with golden apples instead of golden carrots because at least i have golden apples right so i think we’ll kill this last batch of zombies and if none of them drops a carrot We’re gonna go ahead and light up the spawner again and make our way out of here well i killed every zombie i possibly could on the way home but yep still no carrots so we’re gonna do this the old-fashioned way with golden apples and at least we have enough gold that we Can craft a couple of golden apples in fact i think the gold block we got from the nether portal earlier is probably paying for a decent chunk of this but this will probably be the only time that i breathe these two things together with golden apples because we are getting a Carrot i guarantee it it’ll happen at some stage it’s worth noting that you can only breed together tamed horses and donkeys they can’t be the wild ones they will have to be tamed once but already they are looking at me very interested that i’ve got this golden apple in my Hand and if we feed one to each of those they will breed and the resulting offspring will be a mule mules have the pattern of a horse but the ears of a donkey and right now this is just a full so it’s not going to be rideable Until it grows up for now now the problem is i don’t have another lead for this mule so the mule is probably going to have to be put in some sort of paddock and i think i’ll probably quickly craft up a few oak fences so That we can fence this guy in and the mule may still need to be tamed after it grows up i’m not entirely certain i can’t remember if you end up with a tamed horse as a result of breeding two tamed parents or not but either way It’ll be tamed in exactly the same way as the horse and the donkey were we could even feed it a little bit of food both to speed up the growth process and so that it can like us a little better when we end up taming it and the one Unusual thing about mules compared to the other two is that much like in real life mules are sterile they cannot breed so you can’t breed two mules together to change their characteristics like you can with horses and donkeys the mule is just gonna be forever what it is but With that adventure over i think that’s probably where we’re going to leave it for this episode of the minecraft survival guide folks i hope you’ve enjoyed this look at horses donkeys and mules and hopefully you’ll find them useful as you explore some of your own world thank you so much for watching my Name has been pixariffs don’t forget to leave a like on this episode if you enjoyed it subscribe if you want to see more
