How 2b2t’s “Immortality Machine” was Made

Machine of some kind they can be as simple as a door or as elaborate as a functional computer the oldest anarchy server in minecraft is no stranger to redstone contraptions in fact they’ve played a major role throughout the server’s history one machine in particular though was

Built a few months ago with the purpose of being a weapon but it ended up being something much more it made its creators invincible preventing all forms of physical damage you might be thinking how is that possible how can a redstone machine give someone immortality in vanilla minecraft

Well the story of how it was discovered is fascinating today we are discussing how a weapon built to cause havoc on the server ended up with a completely unexpected side effect and how the creators attempted to then use it to their advantage and the consequences of those actions

The reason i waited to make this video was to ensure that the design i show you today no longer works as intended it was originally built as a lag machine and normally i don’t like promoting people or redstone designs that physically harm the server but this is a very unique circumstance

So i wanted to wait until the design no longer worked before showing off anything related to it building this sort of thing has consequences on the server but we’ll touch on that in a little bit that being said it all started back in august elytra hacks were being used to travel all

Across the server at lightning fast speeds it was around this time that two players steve three and redstoner were testing out different redstone machines you may remember red stoner as one of the players that engineered 2v2t’s great spawn ocean a while back they had come up with one design in particular that

Caused the entire server to lag for about six seconds when activated and in the process was able to close the elytra wings of anyone that was flying at the time in some cases players just died in midair from non-existent fall damage it was quite powerful the machine was nicknamed

The emp or the electromagnetic pulse machine since the way it disabled elytras was similar to real world emps disabling electronics after seeing what the machine could do they began thinking of ways to make it more powerful the initial machine was narrow enough to fit inside a single chunk and only required pistons

But they were going to need something much larger redstoner began tinkering with it offline to try and expand its capabilities the end result was a lag machine so powerful that when activated was capable of bringing an entire server to a dead stop even though it worked there were some roadblocks

The machine was so massive that it would require an absurd amount of redstone materials just to function another issue was that due to its size a single person alone would not be able to build it easily it would require multiple players working at the same time for hours just to make it operational

On top of all of that remember how i said that building lag machines has a consequence it’s well known on 2b2t that if you build one the server’s admin house master will not only delete it he’ll proceed to ban your account name from using the priority queue system

The majority of the 2b2t community agrees that this is a fair punishment having priority is crucial for many regulars so when you try to make the server unplayable for everybody having it taken away shouldn’t come as a surprise the builders knew the potential consequences of their actions but proceeded anyway after finding a

Suitable location construction of the machine began after mining out a massive hole to bedrock shulkers of redstone materials were brought in by the builders after a few days construction of the machine was complete it was finally time to turn it on and test it out after the machine began to activate

The server started lagging and strange things started happening to those that were standing right next to the mechanisms they ended up turning invisible having only the name tags above their heads still showing on top of that their actual hitboxes disappeared if you don’t know in minecraft

Your hitbox is what allows you to take physical damage the server was under such stress from the machine that it completely removed the hitboxes from their player characters shown here is one of the builders attempting to swing their sword at another and being unable to physically harm them yet

Everyone around the machine was able to move around and interact with blocks normally the builders that had been standing right next to the machine were now immortal however this immortality didn’t last long the machine had to be turned off so that it wouldn’t outright crash the server because

If it did it would easily be found and deleted by house master and the builders priority band they began wondering what had actually happened a redstone machine completely removing someone’s hitbox is not something that’s been documented before they made note of the strange phenomenon and continued their activities little did they know

If you hit that button you’re all right anyway what happened to the builders next should not come as a surprise the lag machine was found and deleted by house master and the builders that were still nearby were priority banned some of the builders that were not around when the machine was deleted

Had survived and began planning to build another one but this time at an actual player gathering they wanted to test out the effects of the machine on dozens of players at the same time and caused mass confusion 2v2t’s fight club a social activity where players duel each other barehanded

Seemed like the perfect place to build one it was a weekly event that lured in dozens of players at once many of them brand new to the server the head of the fight club allowed the builders to create the machine underground at the next location so that people arriving

Wouldn’t see it right away by the time it was noticed it would be too late to escape when enough players were close by they were going to turn it on and see the effects was the immortality something that could be replicated or was it a fluke they managed to finish their machine

Shortly before people started arriving as soon as the fight club kicked off the machine was then activated the server began lagging but everyone at the event was still visible even the players that had turned on the machine still had their hit boxes many of them became frozen in place

However so the lag aspect of the machine was still fully functional but it seemed that the attempt to recreate the invincibility exploit had failed griefers began destroying the machine and when the event was finished the builders moved on elsewhere not long after the event a major duplication

Exploit that had been in use for a while was patched making it harder to acquire more redstone materials quickly on top of all that no matter how many more times the invincibility exploit was tried it no longer made people immortal which brings up the questions of

How did it happen and why was it only achieved once i’ve been trying to find some sort of explanation as to how this immortality is achievable in minecraft especially using just redstone and i’ve come up with very little some have suggested that it’s possibly a strange interaction that the machine had

With some of 2v2t’s plug-ins considering this immortality has not been produced on other servers this seems to be the most likely explanation so i guess in this case the phrase only on 2b2t is actually correct even after all these years this server continues to surprise me
