Hello everyone my name is pixelriffs and welcome back to the minecraft survival guide where yes the woodland mansion is still burning bits of it are at least and our la’s are safe but i’m not gonna bring them back to the base today because there’s a lot of them it’s quite A distance i need to set up a permanent nether tunnel to this place so that we can get hold of all of these delays and bring them safely back to spawn or alternatively i need to figure out where i’m going to take them to because i Don’t know if we want them all to be around spawn or if we want to use them elsewhere in the world but in the meantime they’re just happily floating around attached to this fence post just kind of chilling we still have some safely in the jails here In the woodland mansion which we will let out once we have a place for them and the only reason i decided that it was probably going to be a good idea to start at the woodland mansion today is because of this i rarely get to explore These because more often than not i get unlucky and my woodland mansions don’t have secret rooms but this one appears to have and over here if we hop on over to here there is this weird obsidian diamond or i don’t know what kind of shape this is really tetrahedron Probably anyway this is one of the secret rooms that generates behind a woodland mansion staircase more often than not sometimes it’s just completely blocked off from the upper floor of the woodland mansion and if we step onto here and take away this block of obsidian we should find that there is a Block of obsidian inside and beyond that a block of diamonds because yes the illegals seem to have gotten hold of a diamond block and decided it was best to encase it in obsidian so we’re gonna grab that that is one of the few times i’ve ever seen this actually generating A wooden mansion i found in survival so pretty lucky that we found that we also have a couple of loot chests here one of which has a golden apple which i might as well take and i’ll drop off some of the stuff that i don’t need in here Because my inventory is a giant mess right now so we’re gonna leave that stuff in there i’m gonna grab these bookshelves because i really hate to see bookshelves go to waste there is one more loot chest down here which also has a golden apple in it along with a couple Of fairly useful things i guess we’ll take some iron and some redstone why not but the remainder of the chest here are all of the empty ones from those storage rooms the illegals seem to have for no particular reason so we’ll leave those alone and is this another jail cell i Think we’ll find it is although i don’t hear any allah’s coming from this one so it is possible for them to occasionally generate without a lace anyway today we are going to head back to spawn we’ll probably figure out some kind of tunnel to this place on a live Stream or something like that so that we can move all the of the allays back home but we’re not going to focus too much on a laze today especially if they’re in danger of getting blown up by creepers instead i’m going to say farewell to this woodland mansion and fly on back to Spawn where we’re going to take a look at mass producing mud blocks but before we do that let’s take a look at why we might even want to mass produce mud blocks because frankly you could take a look at mud and think this isn’t all that interesting and sure it’s quite a Pretty block i think it could look really good as an alternative to a stone type if you wanted like a darker type of stone if you’re not walking around on it i do think it looks kind of cool but you can’t craft regular mud blocks into Slabs and stairs and all of the things that make it very versatile for building so you might be forgiven for assuming that mud is just a block for landscaping well i’m here to tell you that that is not entirely the case it’s time to harvest our little hidden weave field Back here from the early days of the world because to be honest this is still the largest patch of wheat that i own i’m gonna raid my old storage room to see if i have any more wheat and i did grab a bunch of hay bales from villages As i’ve been exploring because i knew this day was coming so with two and a half stacks of wheat let’s grab i mean we don’t even have two and a half stacks of mud blocks right now let’s grab a stack of mud blocks at least let’s open Up our 2×2 crafting interface and let’s turn that into packed mud packed mud is a brand new building block that goes along with mud in the 1.19 update and this is where mud gets more versatile as you’ll already be able to see packed mud looks very different from regular mud It’s a different color has a different texture this honestly reminds me a bit more of cobble deep slate in terms of the i don’t know graininess of the texture the fact that it looks a little bit lumpy compare that to the other dirt type blocks like pods all here for Example regular dirt coaster rooted dirt all of that kind of stuff it’s a similar color but it’s obviously a very different texture it feels a little bit smoother than the rough grainy dirt that you can see elsewhere even stuff like grass path it’s got a contrast to it and I like that i think mud could be a pretty versatile block and perhaps most importantly packed mud can be crafted into mud bricks in the same way that you make stone bricks out of stone throwing some mud bricks into a stone cutter reveals that they have stairs slabs and Walls so we have a versatile building block right here and while i think the noises are still a little bit harsh to me i find these i don’t know it feels kind of weird it feels like they’re still trying to be wet blocks while you kind of presume That the mud is dried out by the time you’re building with it but texturally speaking these are quite interesting and a different color than you might expect mud to be i don’t know what you’re thinking pics that’s just brown how is that a different color than you expected Mud to be well actually i think the grout in these bricks the uh the kind of the like the mortar that’s being used here has a lot more in common with the regular mud block here because it’s got the kind of darker purpley kind of color To it when i think of mud i tend to think of stuff like soul soil or at least that’s what i’ve used previously when we’ve been oh the the soul speed effect kicked in i wasn’t expecting that but when i wanted a mud texture for like the bottom of a river before i’ve Usually gone for something like soul soil it has that kind of brown wavy silty kind of texture whereas this packed mud feels a little bit different and it’s interesting to note that while we can basically insta mine packed mud with a efficiency 5 pickaxe we can’t do the same with mud bricks so Those are a little bit hardier you could probably do it with haste two on a beacon or something like that but i don’t know slightly different time to break on those they’re an interesting block and i think we’ll end up using those at some point in the near future Honestly though the fact that we have this entire mud block family now with mud blocks packed mud and the mud bricks along with slabs stairs and walls is reason enough for me to want a decent amount of it i think these would look really good in desert builds or Something where you want a little bit more of a dry natural feel to the place but that’s not even all mud is capable of because if we head down here and grab a couple of supplies from my drip stone chest if we place some regular mud the Wet kind of mud before we’ve turned it into packed mud if we place that over the top of a drip stone block with some pointed drip stone coming out from the bottom i don’t actually know how long this is going to take so it may not Happen right in front of our eyes but the implication is that the mud has its water siphoned off by the pointed drip stone the pointed drip stone draws the wetness out of the mud and instead of turning into packed mud it turns into clay and i expect this is going to be One of those processes like filling up a cauldron with lava where it can happen quicker or it can happen slower because right now it does seem to be taking a while so we’ll probably come back to this a little bit later and hopefully it will have turned into clay by the way i Did check the minecraft wiki and it seems like this block doesn’t have to be a block of drip stone as long as it’s a solid block with pointed drip stone below it it should still turn the mud block up here into clay so the drip stone block here not required but you do Need to have some kind of solid block to dangle the pointed grip stone from in the first place but either way that means a renewable source of clay blocks which you could only previously get renewably from stonemasons thanks to the hero of the village mechanic and if they Just throw you the occasional block of clay it still didn’t feel like something that was totally renewable but for clay to be renewable mud has to be renewable as well and luckily it is if we fill up a glass bottle with water and then we Use the water bottle on a dirt block it turns into a mud block and while this can be a little bit of a tedious process if you want to do it manually on land because you’ve got to go into your inventory and grab all of the water bottles every time since they don’t Stack in java edition at least right now it’s also possible to grab just one water bottle and then spam right click down here on the riverbed and turn a bunch of the blocks down here into mud it can get a little noisy though and it has the added problem of once you need To harvest it all you have to wait for the mud blocks to float to the surface or swim around collecting them although i wonder do we think we can give an allay a block of mud and have it collect some of the mud for us as it all floats To the surface and it’ll probably just keep throwing it around until we reach the surface but i am hopeful that our little friend over here might be able to grab some of the mud that floats up from the riverbed let’s give that a try let’s Say i want to spam a bunch of the dirt down here with water to turn it all into mud and honestly i do really like the color of this stuff underwater i think it looks quite nice next to the sand but if i harvest all of this and don’t focus too hard on Collecting it all just let it float to the surface obviously some of it’s gonna be dragged down and kept here by the flowing water but look yes there we go the lay is going to throw us the bunch of mud that he’s collected so now just Like that we got a stack of mud pretty straight forward actually i can imagine going out to an ocean biome or something like that turning all of the ocean floor into mud using a water bottle which might be a bit of a tedious process but then set up a little platform where the La can gather it all and probably even throw it into a hopper minecart that’s gonna store it in the chest for us or better yet a shulker box then we could just pick it up and take it with us so that’s not a bad idea but of course we Probably want a way that we can turn dirt directly into mud using automation and i think that’s where we’re going to focus the rest of our efforts in this episode because we have a great deal of dirt here not much of which i am planning on using right now but besides That coarse dirt and rooted dirt neither of which we have in abundance but we have a decent amount of rooted dirt and we can craft a bunch of coarse dirt can also be transformed into mud and this presents a couple of interesting possibilities which we’ll get on to Later for now instead we’re going to take advantage of the fact that dispensers can transform dirt into mud using water bottles they will end up storing the glass bottles in the dispenser once they’ve been emptied they don’t end up spitting them out automatically but there is something we Can do about that as well but at this point we’re basically going to have to set up a mud factory and i want to do that in a place that feels a bit more permanent because i want it to feel like a permanent part of the landscape here And i’m thinking this side of the hill might be a good place to put it so i’m going to clear away some of the trees over here we’re gonna build up a foundation for our mud factory we’ll work on the redstone and maybe if we’ve got time we’ll start working on the Build itself okay first of all i want to acknowledge that yes this eventually turned into clay and it turned into clay while i was building this platform over here this is going to be the foundation of our mud factory so of course i had to make it All out of dirt and soul sand and a little bit of the mud in there as well but obviously the packed mud above the only reason i stopped building it here is that i ran out of mud materials and that’s kind of what this whole thing is For so the floor is sandstone nice and simple so that we can get straight down to business building the redstone components for this now the way i’m imagining this is that we have a machine somewhere around here that we’re going to feed dirt into and convert it into Mud pretty much straight away that’s going to go down a line over here fed by a piston and the piston is going to feed that into a bunch of other pistons where you’re effectively going to make a large flat area of mud that we can just come Through with our shovel and collect a whole bunch at once probably like a stack and a half of mud at once is the idea and we could go bigger than this if we want to engineer it a little more but i think a stack and a half or so is Going to be roughly where i want to be and then on the other side of the floor over here if we’ve got room and if we don’t have room we can probably you know put it on stilts and have like a second a mezzanine floor to the entire room We’re gonna have one that pushes it all out over some drip stone like we have over there so that we can also use this to mass manufacture clay because the clay is obviously taking a long time to turn into clay from mud i think it’s probably best to just make a large area Of it like with the lava factory that we have and make sure that there’s always converting something into clay pretty much all of the time and the dispenser that does all the mud converting is going to be here so when the dirt comes in front of this dispenser a water Bottle inside the dispenser is going to convert that dirt into mud but to get around the problem that the water bottles are going to leave glass bottles inside the dispenser we’re actually only going to feed in one water bottle at a time and we’re going to do that from Another dispenser up here that’s making bottles basically from a water source so we can have a dispenser facing into a water source above this hopper and we could make the water source you know in trap doors it could be a waterlogged stair or something like that but another Really cool feature of minecraft 1.19 is that we can now waterlog both leaves and mangrove roots so we can have a waterlogged mangrove root block there and it doesn’t leak the water out of the sides it actually contains the water and leaves do the same thing let me grab Another water source from here as an example we can waterlog one piece of birch leaves and that still technically counts as a water source we can bottle water from this but the leaves actually contain the water although the other thing this does is potentially introduce an element of collision and so when we Dispense a glass bottle into here it should shoot off into this hopper can demonstrate that real quick with a lever if we pull the lever bam the dispenser fires it has a water bottle inside of them we’re going to fill that with regular glass bottles so that the water Bottle has nowhere to go but out into this block space where it should be picked up by this hopper the hopper is going to deposit one water bottle at a time inside this dispenser so that the only thing it ever has in it is water bottles and the glass bottles are going To be pulled away by an item filter circuit that’s going to operate out of the back of this thing this is going to be the same item filter circuit that we use in our storage system it might as well be we’re not really going to be wasting that many extra materials by Doing that we need a redstone torch there and the hopper that feeds out the items is actually going to go into a system of droppers which are going to return the glass bottles to the dispenser up here so this hopper is going to feed the items in at the bottom Here and it’s going to feed them into that dropper the droppers are going to be activated as we put dirt into the machine and they’re going to return the glass bottles to this dispenser so it will always be full of glass bottles and is never ever going to run out three Blocks over from this line of droppers one two three this spot here is where we’re going to have our piston so we’re gonna pop a piston in there we don’t need this block so we can take that away and that’s gonna be pushing the dirt in Front of the dispenser it’s going to do that thanks to a circuit which is going to feed redstone power into this dispenser when there is a block above it this is a pretty simple smart piston circuit that we built before all it needs is a redstone torch on top of There and a piece of redstone there feeding power into the block adjacent to the piston and now every time we place a piece of dirt against the piston head it’s going to be pushed in front of the dispenser now thanks to a bit of fun redstone wiring this is also going to Provide power to the dropper tower that we have here making sure that all of these droppers end up receiving redstone power returning the glass bottles to the dispenser and also that the dispenser is going to make a fresh water bottle every time it needs one for now we just need To place one piece of glass over the top of this to make sure that redstone dust can connect over and we’re going to place a terracotta block there with some redstone dust on the top of it thanks to quasi connectivity this block being powered is going to diagonally power the Dropper immediately below it it’s going to power the dropper next to it and the redstone dust is also going to power the dispenser so when we place this all of these tick all at once we do need to make sure that we have some filter stuff in here and we’ll need some glass Bottles there so the machine only takes empty glass bottles out of this dispenser and doesn’t get rid of the water bottles and in theory the best thing to do here is to fill this dispenser up with full stacks of glass bottles because with the randomness of Dispensers there is a chance that one of these stacks could deplete it would start to let water bottles in and that might potentially break the system but we need to make sure our item filter here has 41 glass bottles in there and considering it’s a solo item filter we Could probably put more filter stuff in there and make sure that more of the glass bottles drained into the system but they’re pretty cheap to get hold off and the last thing we need to do is make sure this dispenser is receiving power every time there’s a block in front of It which is kind of difficult to do without switching off any of these hoppers if we were using the redstone torch method like we’re using here but instead we can effectively just run redstone power directly into the block from the front using this block of redstone and a repeater And that’s power the dispenser once but every time the block here moves it will power the dispenser again the system is now primed with a water bottle so it didn’t convert that block into mud but it will convert the next one the leftovers from our item filter are now In this dropper being pushed up the chain of droppers here and into this dispenser at the top so that if we place a couple more of those it’s producing mud blocks as it goes and refilling this dispenser which is giving us more water bottles for the dispenser below and if We built the system right this one should only have one bottle of water in there so that’s working perfectly in fact we can take some of the empties from down here and put them up in the top dispenser but this system should all be working pretty well now i’ve just Evened out the glass bottles in here but i think the dropper might also load the dispenser from the first slot so each time it returns a bottle to this dispenser i think it puts them in the top left corner meaning that we will have to fill this up with glass bottles After all that was something i was unsure about but i’m glad we checked that before i used this machine any further i’ve also found that a couple of bottles of water have been spat out of the dispenser here which has meant that one block there didn’t get converted Because there wasn’t a water bottle loaded into the dispenser so it might help to create a couple of buffer water bottles here so that if it misses one then there’s always going to be a couple available to go through the system alternatively we could just replace this Root block with a regular water source surrounded by trap doors so that the bottles won’t just fly out of one side but either way now the piston has reached its push limit we want to make sure that these blocks get pushed to one side by another piston and that’s going To effectively send them into a collection area we’re going to build over here that way we can just stand over here spam dirt for as long as we want to and the whole thing should create a giant square of mud behind us we’re going to do that exactly the same Way we built the machine that’s pushing the dirt in the first place we’re going gonna have a redstone torch underneath the block a piston behind it right there and one piece of redstone dust on the top here this also has the advantage that since we have reached the piston Push limit it’s not going to push any further than this and it’s not going to displace this piece of redstone dust here so now if we continue to place dirt here that’s gonna get converted into mud and it’s gonna be pushed around over there by this set of pistons anyway this Piston here has now reached its push limit which means it’s time to start working on our collection area and i’ve deliberately left a couple of blocks in between the mud area and the sides here so that we can build some kind of factory wall around it but with some Temporary blocks we can set up a row of pistons back here that’s going to be pushing these mud blocks around and we need to make sure that it’s not going to displace that redstone block that we’re using as a power source so we can fit 10 Pistons in here meaning that we end up with a 10 by 13 area of mud once it’s pushed all of it out into the room which to be honest 130 blocks of mud is actually two stacks so that’s more than i was expecting unfortunately this time Around we don’t have a corner so we can’t build this same smart piston setup because putting a redstone torch underneath here is all very well but then making sure this block gets power to that piston is a little bit more difficult especially at the speed this machine is going to be churning out These mud blocks so what we’re going to do instead is rely on observers ability to detect a change in the shape of a wall we’re going to run a row of walls underneath the bottom half of this and we should only really need to detect every other wall so we’ll place Observers on alternating blocks we’ll put one here one here one here one here and one here and that should cover the entirety of this piston array then on the back of each observer we’re going to place one of these blocks and behind each of the other pistons we’re going to Place a solid block there as well then we’re gonna put redstone dust on top of each of these and what each of those observers is going to do when it detects a change in the shape of a wall is push both the piston in front of it and the Pistons that are connected to this redstone dust by these solid blocks so for example now if i make a change here it’s gonna push those two pistons and so on down the line it’s gonna push three at a time sometimes but if we start feeding dirt into the system over here That’s gonna push it over in front of these pistons which are going to push it out further into the room and now as i speak the room behind me is loading up with mud and it started to form this giant square up here because the observer detects the fact that the shape Of the wall changes when a block is placed over the top of it like this for example it changes to fill up that space and when that happens to one of these walls the ones that are connected to the observers behind they fire the pistons on either side meaning that it’s going To push the mud further out into the room once these reach their piston push limit the mud is going to be able to continue past those and reach other pistons which are going to change the shape of those walls and push those mud blocks out into the room as well once Again we did have a couple of misses so i think now is probably the time to replace that mangrove root block after all it’s a shame because i really like the look of these things but with trapdoors all the way around the outside and probably one on top as well we can Fold those up we’ll be able to break the mangrove root block which will leave the water source there and that should now be a bit more reliable as it spits water bottles out they’re just going to end up inside the water source the trapdoor isn’t going to let them go anywhere and The hoppers should pick them up nice and easily now let’s stand atop this redstone block and fill up the entire room behind us with mud once the machine locks up that is as much as it can convert and this time around it’s all been working fine i did Have to make sure that these bottles were evenly distributed because once again they are clustering in that top corner but we have an entire floor of mud here which we can now farm using our shovel and that will reset the system ready to produce more if we wanted to Make the system even more automatic we could have an allay collect the mod for us once we’d farmed it or we could even feed it into a blast chamber with tnt which would destroy all of the mud blocks and drop them into a system of hoppers or something like that but for Now i think we’re just going to leave it manual we might get the allays involved since we have a decent amount of them now but look at that we have two stacks and change all brand new mud blocks the reason i built this factory floor a couple of blocks off the ground is Because if we want to mirror it on the other side we need a block here and pointed drip stone at ground level and then all of that floor is going to be converted into clay in the meantime though we could just place a floor of normal blocks right here and that’s Probably not going to affect the piston push mechanism nope that’s all working still fine and that way we have a floor here that we can freely run around on if we want to collect the mud blocks that way i think that’s as far as we’ll take it today with this mud making Contraption but we might revisit this design in future to produce a clay floor over on this side once i have a little bit more material to finish off the rest of the build potentially but if you want to know the full potential of automation with this this is really the bridge Between a few different types of blocks let me give you a quick rundown of how this could work so stone if you end up bone mealing moss nearby can convert that into moss if you bone meal the moss it will grow an azalea and if you burn Meal the azalea on top of the moss that converts the moss into rooted dirt rooted dirt can be run in front of a dispenser with a bottle of water converting it into mud the mud can be run over pointed drip stone converting it into clay the clay can be smelted in A furnace to turn it into terracotta the player can craft the terracotta with some dye to turn it into colored terracotta and then that can be baked in a furnace once again to turn it into glazed terracotta so that is the process of converting stone into terracotta you can even go one Stage further back here if you wanted to you could produce cobblestone from a cobblestone generator blow that up with tnt smelt that in a furnace to get the stone and this chain reaction between all of these different types of blocks leads you to glazed terracotta from Stone which i think is pretty cool now i don’t know if we’ll ever get to the point where we’ve automated that entire process here in the survival guide but the fact is it does seem possible as a fun challenge to all of you automation folks out there well folks that is where I’m gonna leave it for this episode of the minecraft survival guide thank you so much for going on this whirlwind tour of mud with me and i hope you enjoyed i hope you’re interested in using a bit more mud in your own worlds now because i think it’s quite a fascinating block Thank you so much for watching once again my
