Today i want to talk a little bit about minecraft interiors and my thought process when i’m doing interiors in my minecraft builds also want to thank today’s sponsor for this video dashlane for years in minecraft i would make a building similar to this and i would then go inside And be kind of overwhelmed what do i do how do i do this well this can be a great area for my furnaces great now i can do all my smelting over here perfect ah this will be a great place for my storage ah perfect that’s plenty of room For storage that’ll work out great and i’ve even got a little area for stone cutting and crafting and a little enchanting area this is how i would do my interiors and you know maybe do some other decorative stuff oh there’s plenty of room for a farm right here or a farm right there But i recently in the last year kind of had a transition in my thought process this is the exact same building and this is how i’ve done it i’ve decorated it with the same sort of functionality i want to have the same thing i’ve got an area here for cooking in the kitchen So i’ve separated it if it’s going to be a starter house i want it to feel like a house i’ve got an area with some shelves out here right in the entryway and then i’ve got a little sitting room out here kind of a dining room with a fireplace It’s compact but it works if i want an area to store logs i create a little area like this where i can put all my logs and stuff that’s an obvious visual reminder of where it is flowers and seeds obviously go out in the garden area stone or anything That you might need to smelt put a little bit of a furnace outside and have an area for that and all throughout the house there’s lots of other little areas for storage these are cartography tables if i ever need to use that at my little library here’s a bedroom Where i can go shreep here’s a little storage room for some armor and weapons and stuff like that every space has a purpose when i walk into the door of my house this is how i picture it it’s empty but i try to think how many ways can i divide this up Because dividing it up is going to make decorating it a lot easier and this would be an example of a small starter house this is on the fairly small size but you could have an entrance right here then a small little bedroom right there maybe an area to put a table and chairs Over here and this could be a little kitchen for cooking and then the rest of the stuff you could put outside or you could put it downstairs to store some other things and then that would be an access for a back door right there you break it up Like this and all of a sudden you start to add some interest to the inside of your building but now let’s up the scale a little bit let’s make something just a little bit larger than this we were doing a little bit better we want to make a little bit bigger house Let’s go with something like this make it at least five tall and then you’ll put your floor on the first level one of the things that that does is it gives you the ability to put a little bit of a stairway now this is just a simple Little thing there but that gives some exterior interest now that we’re on the inside if you can build on a little bit bigger scale like this the number one thing you can do that can help you out the most is do two layers on your walls but before we get too deep let’s Actually kind of do a rough layout of what we might have when you’re doing your layout for this stuff keep in mind that you might do two thick walls here so if we actually have two away from this and an opening here it’s actually going to be One if the wall is going to go there so keep that stuff in mind but now we have the ability to put some sort of interesting wall paper or paint on the walls to start to give a homey feel to the inside of the place already We’re starting to warm up a little bit notice this right you walk in things feel a little bit tighter but it feels a lot more homey this could be a little kitchen space or you could even divide this up smaller and make a small bedroom out of it This could be a little entrance but this is when i tend to start to think about windows and where i would pop those out remember in the last episode or the last video that we talked about this stuff we mentioned that we’d like to poke the windows in later Kind of lay out your interior and figure out where your windows will go after the fact once you’ve got that figured out let’s put this one back actually we could go right here for a door uh once you’ve got that kind of figured out then it helps with the outside Now that you got your windows knocked out and you got some walls in i like to put the ceiling in on a large large scale ideally you’d probably want to allow two layers for your ceiling because you’re going to need a level for your floor and then you’re going to need a Different block for your ceiling it’s the same as the walls if you’re big enough you’ll have enough room for that uh in this case we’re going to go with wood because we’re kind of going with like a little bit of a medieval theme here so obviously we’re going to use the same Material for the floor as the ceiling here the way you signify that it’s a ceiling is you start to introduce some interesting sealing textures so you could do something just as simple as this where you put in some slabs to signify a little bit of decoration or some beams going across and another Interesting thing you can do to your ceiling is you can trim it you can trim the edge out just like that and give kind of a tray ceiling feeling but this is something that’s awfully important you want to add some interest in your ceiling because it starts to make Some add some more depth and make things feel kind of nice and cozy another great thing about double layered walls is the fact that you can kind of double up on your windows you can use several different things you could use trap doors in glass or you could use Trap doors and fences or whatever you get two layers to add some interest from the outside it actually starts to look pretty interesting it kind of fogs up that view to the inside so you got your walls figured out you got your windows knocked out you got your ceiling and now you Want to start decorating a little bit uh decorating is one of those things that you kind of there are so many tutorials out there of different ways to decorate different little tricks and hacks that you can use uh to make interesting furniture and designs and stuff it’s worth researching that stuff There’s so many there’s thousands and thousands of block combinations and things that you can do to kind of add some interest but the one thing that i try to keep in mind is i want to put barrels and chests anywhere i can because it’s one of those things that You don’t want to have an area that has a bunch of chests uh that would just like like we showed earlier with like 20 chests stacked on top of each other especially like the kitchen is a great place to kind of get some chests in there or or some storage worked out That’s something that you can just you can find stuff all throughout your house it’s a great feeling it’s a nice little thing to have in place so i try to have barrels and chests and storage anywhere i can but i’d say when it comes to picking Out little pieces to put and where to put them one of the biggest things i do is i go just go into this decorations menu and i’ll just scroll scroll scroll and just think and not fast if you’re just scrolling fast and you think oh i know where everything is You don’t you really don’t if you scroll slowly and think okay how could i use that what’s a way that i could use this specific block so maybe i want to get a little red mushroom obviously then we’d need some pots for that right So boom but you try to think how can i implement some of these decorative blocks into the game banners here’s a little trick and and like i said this isn’t all about tricks but in a kitchen you put a banner like that and it looks like a towel hanging up it’s a nice Little effect but this is where i spend the majority of my time when decorating is just looking through this and thinking what other uses could i come up with for these blocks an actual great example of this is something that somebody showed me a little while ago with the smithing table The underside of it makes for a really cool decorative looking ceiling i think that looks awesome but not restricting yourself to just the decorative menu there’s other things in other other menus this is under the transportation you get the rails and you can kind of create some decoration with that Or in the brewing you get a cauldron in there there’s there’s other areas where you can kind of use some other blocks for decoration i usually use a lever to kind of signify maybe a cleaver or something that you would use in a kitchen but yeah the other tabs have some Valuable items in them as well so we’re really starting to get there on this house we’re really starting to get a cool warm decorative feeling then you end up with some areas from time to time that feel like they’re a little bit empty what could i put here in a space like This i would probably create a stairway and of course you guys know you can do you can use just some trapdoors like that or you can from time you can actually make a wall out of trapdoors that’s one of the most useful things when you’re kind of cramped for space and need a Wall just some trapdoors all of a sudden now you have a great entrance into a basement just in this three wide space right here uh but yeah that’s about it for this area this is how i would decorate out kind of a smaller space now if you want to do two-story buildings There’s some very important things you need to address but before we continue let’s take a brief moment to thank our sponsor today that made this video possible dashlane dashlane is a desktop and mobile app designed to help keep you and your password safe they have a full Suite of tools designed to make your life just that much easier there’s a password manager that’ll generate custom passwords for you and keep them think it’d be a great choice for you go check it out so one of the most important things for two stories and ignore the exterior this Isn’t about exteriors this is about interiors for two-story buildings if you’re gonna have a second floor i’d like to kind of lay out where i think that floor would be now here we might want to leave room for a ceiling texture so we’d have two Levels so let’s go up one two three four five blocks and put a floor there now once we get that in one of the most important things we need to think about when we’re laying out a space is where are the stairs going to be now Remember if you’re going to do two wide walls you want to keep in mind that your walls are going to be too wide if you said over here i want the stairs to the upstairs to go right here but you did two wide walls you’re actually in the wall it could Work but this is also an opportunity to create something interesting where you could maybe so you’ve got your design and it’s just a rectangle like this maybe and i’m going to do this kind of quick and dirty but you could move the wall out a little bit And then on the exterior you start to add some interest that’s why over on that build i put a tower on the outside that tower looks very interesting but it’s there as a stairway to get up to the second floor so this that’s kind of an important thing when you have a two-story House you don’t want to do all this stuff that we talked about and then get stuck with how in the world am i gonna get up there well i’ll just put a stairway on the outside or a water ladder you want real stairs for me One of the easiest places to do this is in the corner you can kind of wrap the corner a little bit and i like to start at the top and figure out okay where am i going to enter the upstairs and actually in this case we want to use Dark oak to match the floor but we could do something like this and then this gives us just a general idea of where our stairway would be so now you can put some walls in here to kind of give you a little bit of an idea of of how that’s Going to look so we build this up and then we bring this down the white is all kind of blending in a little bit here but you get the idea so we would have something like that for our stairway that’s how we would get from the lower floor To the upper floor in a way that kind of feels a little bit realistic there we go i changed it to gray that looks a little bit better but you can get up here obviously and then that gets you to your next floor and it’s nice and tucked away not taking Up a lot of space if you are in a tight situation a spiral staircase can actually look kind of nice and you can put a spiral staircase pretty much anywhere you want to do the same thing where you want to think okay where do i want to land so in this case If we did just this small spiral staircase and we wanted to land here if this is where we would want to come upstairs then we would kind of work our way down from there you can do half slabs you can do stairs however but a spiral staircase is a nice way to Kind of create just an interesting piece in your interior that’s gonna look kind of cool and serve a nice function so something like that could work out pretty nice and i’m just putting a little bit of decoration in here now just kind of working out the kitchen And you kind of get an idea when you go a little bit bigger you get a little bit more scale you get to do a little bit more the kitchen goes a little bit bigger the table looks a little bit nicer and here’s an example of that too Thick flooring so we’ve got the next floor right here but right underneath that is the ceiling to the other one so you can kind of have a white ceiling and it adds a really nice bright feeling makes the room feel taller even though we could Just knock it out and be taller it makes it nice and bright so that’s a good example but when you’re building on a larger scale like this uh the the rules are kind of similar for me as they are on the exterior when we talked about exteriors on that other Build we kind of mentioned how you don’t want to have more than a three by three area with the exact same texture so i try to mix things up the same applies on the inside where and this all depends if you’re going very modern you’re gonna maybe have some more empty Space like this but the more you can fill in the warmer it’s gonna feel the more people are gonna think wow this is really cool interior design but that three by three rule kind of scales up with the size of your building so with this smaller interior that we started with This is kind of almost a three by three you’ve got a little bit of something that breaks that up right there but most of this is all i mean you don’t even have hardly a two by two area that’s untouched so on smaller scales you wanna Really pack it in and like i said for a scale like this you can kind of give a little bit more space and leave a little bit more empty room and it’s still gonna feel okay it gets difficult when you deal with very large builds so let’s talk about that for a second Now this is the town hall on the hermitcraft server and i think it’s a great example i did the interior for this now we had the throne and green kind of made the building and the exterior here you can see i went with too thick on the walls so i was able to Implement that to where we have kind of a wall texture notice that i kind of raised up this lower level usually on those other interiors we’re just doing one layer down here and then your kind of decorative wallpaper above that now this is three tall so i’m using some things to kind of Stretch the scale a little bit green making these windows very large helps as well large windows are a great thing of course i left this kind of bear because i wanted to whoever becomes the mayor of hermitcraft i wanted to leave that for them but even in the floor This checker pattern that starts to add interest instead of having the exact same material on the floor broke it up with a rug you try to find areas where you can do things to kind of break it up here we have an example where okay i got The walls in but i put a stairway in here and then started to tuck in some bookshelves and some seating area upstairs things got a little bit different where i did start to section it off into smaller areas where i was able to say okay this is a huge space up here Let’s try to find a way to make some smaller rooms now a small room like this you can easily decorate this put a little desk and a chair some filing cabinets and some pictures and a chandelier coming down and it’s very very easy to decorate these smaller sections So a large area and this isn’t a mega build necessarily but this is a big area on a big area like this find places where you can cut it in half or cut it into quarters or cut sections out of it if you need a big hole A big grand area then this is great but like i said the scale stretch everything out as much as you can let’s actually use this office as an example of that so kind of decorated out let’s take a small space like this you could easily put a little bit of a 1×2 painting right there and then here maybe you would put a one by painting and another one by painting here and that fills this space right you don’t need something super large in this area but down here in this big space you have really large walls these walls are 11 Tall just to that divider right there and then it’s probably another seven to eight blocks above that so we have 11 blocks instead of like the four to five that they we were working with so a painting like that right there actually works really well you try to put that in that smaller House that we were working on not so good here these big paintings actually fit pretty nicely so you just stretch the scale and all of a sudden we’re getting kind of a cool interesting feel and look in here that wasn’t really there it’s something that just fills the space maybe this would go There okay cool it fills the space we’re stretching the scale we’re putting bigger paintings in there to kind of break up the number of blocks that are repeating you break up that repetition and it starts to look really nice but like i said before when it comes to the actual Decorating the actually putting blocks down and seeing how it looks uh and filling in a space that’s something that’s just trial and error like that might not look so great we might not love that so we do something different in that spot it’s a matter of just Figuring it out saying okay do i like it or do i not and it’s all up to you you got to use your imagination with that those things there’s tons of resources you can search interior decorating on youtube and just find tons of little things that people have come up with With armor stands and all these different sorts of ways to manipulate the game to create some furniture or something like that but for me the most important thing is sectioning it off if you can create walls in smaller areas within a big area now you’re able to kind of just take a section And say okay this is going to be the kitchen here’s how i decorate it and when you do that you get little areas like this look at this you get a little closet underneath the stairs or you get this section that we were just working on a little two by four Section that you can put something interesting in that you normally wouldn’t have those are the sort of things that make a building stand out in my opinion when you walk into it it’s got a nice warm feeling to it but anyway those are my thoughts on interiors that’s kind of How i work through my process like i said on the last tutorial is not a block by block it’s more of a this is the thought process and hopefully it explains it and helps you guys come up with your own designs and your own way to kind of decorate your spaces sitting Down and trying to find ways to make every space in a build feel interesting or feel useful is a difficult thing it actually takes up quite a bit of energy creative energy but is well worth it in the end in my opinion so hopefully this is helpful to You if it is and you want to try it i’d love to see tweet at me some of your pictures of your interiors that you’ve done i’d love to see some of the stuff you come up with you guys showed me pictures of the builds that You came up with with this stuff and it was awesome to see i loved it so anyway check send me some of your interiors i’d love to see what you do but ladies and gentlemen thank you so much for watching i love you to death leave a like On this episode for me if you enjoyed it we’ll see you in the next episode Video Information
