Okay, let’s explain this thing. When you power a redstone line it get’s a signal strength. When powered with a torch, lever, redstone block it gets a signal strength. That strength goes down by 1 with each block the redstone line runs until eventually it goes to 0 and is no longer powered. The comparator outputs the same signal strength that comes in.
