I’m here at the castle that we built in the last video I was thinking about what makes a castle cool in video games I’m always excited to find the secret sections of a castle to explore the dark secrets that lie beneath large structures like castles need a sense of Adventure and mystery in my opinion so I wanted to make a dungeon I didn’t want to make just a dungeon the concept of a dungeon is pretty simple a dark underground area where prisoners are kept in stories and games this is usually where you can find a prisoner Locked away with a story that the guards don’t want you to hear or something someone doesn’t want uncovered hidden it’s hard to convey that and minecraft though so I came up with a list of things I want to portray through this little build that would help give that Feeling cramped dark wet with a torture chamber and a secret escape let’s take a look at the dungeon and see what I did that gave it the spooky feeling that I was going for because I think I hit it pretty well so if we head in here right Past the main entrance and ideally if I were playing this out a little better I probably won’t put the dungeon entrance right next to the castle entrance that just seems a little bit rude to two people who are visiting your castle but down here we can see that I have a Couple different floors let’s run through it real quick before I talk about what I did down here an extra long hallway down to the torture chamber we’ll talk about that and why did that but first thing I want to talk about is how did I start this build like how do You plan a bill like this and all I did was cut out these hallways and these rooms all the rooms being the cells lobe squares basically I wanted the primary thing I focused on being that everything felt cramped none of the hallways are bigger than this and in some cases they feel a Little bit tighter than this with the archways and whatnot I want it to feel dirty so that’s why you see some of the block composition that you do down below and here I have a lot of mycelium I thought that that looked really cool with gravel and mossy brick cobblestone coarse dirt Those all gave it a very unrefined look I wanted this to feel like something like they didn’t really care how it looked it’s not that they want it to be very hospitable in fact you could say that they specifically want to not be hospitable so let’s go to the top I want The guard station to to be somewhat nice and well-lit they have the only Lantern here because they get the nicest area and then up here is not as dirty as down there but there are a couple cells here maybe for the well behaving prisoners or the people who didn’t commit as bad of Crimes can go up here as you can see it’s empty right now so nobody nobody has earned that spot and then if we go down here it gets a little bit dirtier I start working in a little bit more mossy brick you can see here I got pretty pretty creative with The ways that I lit everything most of the lighting is on staunch is but down here it gets pretty dark in fact it’s probably not well lit enough to stop spawns but I wasn’t too worried about that if you were putting this in a survival build you could light it a Little bit better to give everything a a dirty feeling I just kind of used mushrooms and and cobwebs and I just kind of furnished every every cell with barrels and cups or pots maybe that’s what they got their food in for the day I also gave them like bed rolls made out Of carpet and that’s about all that they get another cool detail I put in here to give it a wet feeling is I put water blocks above here to get water particles this definitely feels damp down here and also in a few spots I thought maybe I did it Up here maybe I did it below maybe I didn’t do it at all well I meant to I’m pretty sure I did it somewhere put some stairs like this and this is something that you can you can throw in into your builds if you want to look damp and and Dark then we’re gonna get a water bucket and put some water in here it’s really hard to see with the shaders but that just makes it look like there’s holes in the floor with little standing pools of water on them I think it’s a pretty cool Effect all in all you know I I didn’t do a whole lot here I just kept it tight and dirty and cramped I shoved a couple corners of of chests and barrels I had another one back here along with a banner from the castle and then this guy Is in a very dark corner maybe he did something really bad and he got taken way back here over here I have something that I want to show but we’ll get back to that that’s the escape that somebody managed to make but down here is where The torture chamber is and I wanted this to be a long daunting stairwell I was thinking like in Mario 64 that endless staircase how creepy it is it’s kind of like the feeling I want to give here obviously I didn’t want to make it endless but I want to make it pretty Long like if you come down here it’s a pretty serious thing I put redstone on the floor to look like blood drops of blood and the cells down here are even less furnished than the ones up there if you’re in the cells down here then you’re probably up next to get tortured So you don’t want to be down here I just learned a little room in there a little closet this guy is currently getting tortured kind of sucks to be him but someone had to do it I put a a table here a it’s very very dark let me light it up Real quick just so we can see a little bit more the cauldron maybe they they dunk him and torture them in the do water torture this thing this isn’t even anything in particular it’s like you lay the body here there’s a hook you can only imagine what they use that for I Just made it on a whim and it looks like a torture device it doesn’t need to be anything special it just needs to imply that someone got tortured there and I think it does a pretty good job of that let’s go back up here and do look Through my favorite part so remember I was talking about how I want to give a sense of adventure we have three different floors with a couple different feelings to each floor if you kind of really start looking at the details there’s also some nooks and crannies Here and my favorite one that I made is right here now we can imagine that maybe somebody had a dirt spot in the corner of their cell and slowly they started digging behind it they hit it with the barrel and then the cobblestone looks like it’s loose loose stone that they Pushed off to the side and down here is where they escaped then go down here I’m gonna put a couple torches down because it’s very dark down here these are the sewers I’m gonna light up a little bit better before we talk about this this is Just a tunnel I think that this looks pretty cool with the with the water and those in the steps like this because I didn’t want like a full constant stream of water this isn’t that big of a castle but you can see here where water does Come down into it had to get a little that you know creative with how it would imply that these are sewers there’s some slime and some vines down here it’s a very icky area but somebody got down here to escape and you tell a story in Your build with that so they get down here and they can see the light at the literal end of the and they broke through the bars or maybe if you want to tell a story you can leave the bars open and then put some bones here and it looks like somebody Got down here and they couldn’t escape they died trying to get out it’s just some of the ways I think about telling a story of my builds and then I just made a little puddle a little pool down here you definitely don’t want to drink all this water coming from the sewers I Could probably put some some slime in here and some some vegetation to Bruce it up a little bit I probably could and should do that but I didn’t so anyways I hope that gives you some ideas about your own dungeon I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out Dungeons are you they’re simple but you can still make them very good I think so let me know what you guys would like to see next if you enjoyed it then you can leave me a like and if you’re not you can subscribe and if you really liked it If you hit that bell in the corner by the video then you’ll get notifications every time I put up a new video keep in touch I’ve also been live-streaming a little bit lately and we’re gonna start working on some more castle related and village related builds coming up here Thank you for watching thank you for being my prisoner by Video
