Hey everybody whip here and welcome back to another minecraft video today we are gonna be talking about how to build an awesome city inside of Minecraft we’re gonna be going over the blueprints and the layout and how you can not have a boring grid like city and you can have Something really cool and immersive previously we’ve taken a look at a lot of different structures on how to build villages which it was really fun trying to recreate a Minecraft village and then also on how to build castles and how to make your castle look really interesting without feeling overly blocky and kind Of boring in that way so anyways with that one let’s get on into this like any good build we first need to start out with terraforming so I wanted to come through here and quickly to smooth out a lot of the regions and take away that kind of weird minecraft generation that We get in a lot of the plains biomes basically removing any lava pools and ponds that we see dotted around the top of these areas and those random caves and crevices that pop up which we’re really useful inside the survival side of things but when we get inside of kind Of building up a city and building up everything like that they just can cause a lot of problems but as I was talking about with that grid pattern if we built our roads going here it just as a straight line like that and then a straight line right light they’re Basically creating a plus shape and then filling in houses throughout the outside of that that would be pretty dang boring there’s not a whole lot of interest there’s not a whole lot of life to that one thing I love playing with here is sight lines so you’ll see as we kind of Build the city we’re gonna use a lot of sight lines be able to make the player feel much more immersed inside of the city first and foremost we want to set the boundaries for where everything is gonna lie where everything is gonna live inside of our city by creating our walls We’re going with a more of a medieval city on this side so if you want to see like futuristic ones or stuff like that let me know in the comments below and I’d be happy to try and tackle those ones where we can that’d be kind of a Fun challenge anyways bringing here more for our castle walls or our city walls sorry not a castle the city walls coming around this entire place you can see I’m going with a very very loose shape here I wanted to capture that upper heeled region that we have on there to the Upper left side of the screen right now but then I also wanted to have a very very large area here inside of the plains I want to basically try and occupy this entire biome because for a city we want to think that that would have thousands of people living inside It obviously we don’t want to be building a thousand houses because that’s a big time commitment in there so we’re gonna kind of go with the Minecraft scale things just making sure the size here looks like it could be a city then one thing I Think after that is we need to plot out our main roadways something that can really help with doing this here is if you take at every single main gateway here as we added four of them and you just add a giant pillar to those it’ll give you a good sight line and where Everything is and then that middle pillar I chose us kind of like our city center so choosing from where the city center is we’re building the roads going out to these different directions instead of doing a straight line to going every which way you can see right There that I kind of put a diagonal line out and then did a y-shaped there to take it to those other two gateways and this created a sort of a district’s area that we have inside of the city then our city center they’re using that dotted circle we’re creating that large central Area where you could throw in some events or some marketplaces or whatever it might be you have that large open area in the center of the city where everybody would kind of be gathering and moving around in these areas I think it’s just awesome I think it’ll work Really really well and you can see us also tweaking a few more terraforming things throughout this aside because as you go along it’s an important thing to note while you’re building projects it’s okay to come back and tweak things and fix things as you’re going throughout now moving into our first city district You’re gonna see that we’re gonna lay this thing out completely with orange concrete here not easiest block to get in survival but for creative it’s great for laying things out you’ll see as we’re moving there at this general area that we’re gonna use orange [ __ ] old town districts or smaller buildings then Yellow is gonna be more of a merchant’s district so more the rich people living there’s a little bit of larger structures over on there light blue is gonna be a royal district and then cyan concrete is going to be like an industrial district where we’re gonna Have all of our farms and our not farm sorry but factories and workstations and the carpenters and the Foreman’s and all those things but anyways as we’re going throughout here you can see that I’ve brought in the lime concrete powder here as a form of a dotted road for inside of Our little village section or inside of our district here inside of the city we want to have a lot of variety to the size of roads that we have going through here so those first lines that we created are going to be much much larger roadways that are gonna be like five to Seven blocks wide then these ones on the inside here with the lime concrete powder that you can see those would be more along the lines of two to three maybe four blocks wide so you can get one cart going down it but you won’t have carts going both ways so there’s mostly gonna Be just foot traffic in here which allows us to cram a lot more buildings in here and one thing that I really want to mention is you really want to try and use a lot of angular buildings especially if you’re going for a medieval-style because what we can use here is we Planned out those base roadway shapes of using the concrete powder but the buildings are actually gonna be what determine the overall road shape and size and everything going on in there so you really want to focus on using the shapes of your buildings to kind of determine those roadways to determine The pathways and here we’re going to be moving into the industrial district and kind of working on those ones and you can see we use just a few main streets in here and everything else is gonna be plotted out just differently this one that working on the bottom there I like Using those little u-shape ones to form a like a stable so we know that that would be somewhere were you coming inside that city gate and somebody is waiting there for you to take your horse and be able to feed the horse or you can stay in the in above it maybe whatever It might be you have a place to stay and then as I mentioned we’re coming here and using the shapes of our buildings to kind of outline these roadways and at the end the goal would be that we could remove the dotted lines and you can still clearly see where the different Roadways would be throughout this one again with all the different variety that we have we want to have a lot of different scale for foot traffic versus carts versus an army needing to march through and all those different things and then also we can create a lot of Smaller alleyway so I can see that little t-shaped one that we created over there and through those pillars of leaves in the pillars the leaves are just something that I like to use because I like to detail out cities so this kind of tells me like hey we’re Gonna build a tree here so it’s okay to leave this as more of an open space you don’t need to put every single little details you’re going through right here because otherwise what’s the point in building the city in the end if you’re just gonna do it all while you’re Planning so here’s just some loose ideas it’s not a final one we could remove them we could move them out different ways but they were basically like two out of the four districts are done and you can really see the city plans start to come together here of all the Different roadways all the different areas where people can meet up and I think it looks really sweet and over there we have like the old town and the industrial district that I was talking about so we have a lot of different areas then this one over here is gonna be where all Of our merchants are I wanted to give them a much larger area because they’d be having a bit larger houses larger things are out and I also want to give this because such a large one I wanted to give it a focal structure so that weird little diagonal thing with the Four circles on the corner of the four squares I mentioned be like a church or like a key or something like that or maybe even like a giant bank like a merchants guild so that they have something in here this kind of divides this district in half as well as having That large focal point in the center then after that we’re able to come through here and add a bunch more houses and structures and you can see me tweaking the roadways and whatever the plans we lay down here these aren’t what we have to stick to you can modify them At any time you can change them whatever you want and it’s just kind of all about getting a general idea down here it’s better when you’re planning to use a lot of overly diagonal structures even if you’re not that great at building them just say you know what I want to try and Fit a house inside of this area I want to try and fit a structure inside of this area then when you’re coming through if it doesn’t work when you’re actually building the city that’s okay but at least you have that journal area laid out for kind of defined for the Overall shape of what you want it to be in the end so you can come through here you see a lot of them we’re starting to merge the walls together as things get closer and they kinda are just gonna be over mingling overlapping in different sizes maybe once a three-story house Versus once like a four-story there’s something like that or even just short ones you can have little open areas where we have those little areas along the backs of the walls you could throw a small field in there with a small workstation maybe somebody’s washing their clothes out of a well that’s Started in back there and all these little open areas that you see inside the roads of where they’re going through the small districts you could actually come in there and plant in a tree or maybe you put a few market stalls in there or you can put like a well like I Was talking about just so you can have different functionality bits scattered around this entire area as we’re finishing out the merchants district here though you can see a lot of different aspects coming in together with a lot more houses and these ones I wanted to note while we’re walking along The sides or building along the sides of that main roadway that we had to find there for these ones you can see for the lighter ones I didn’t really leave a whole lot of space on the edge of the road but here as we’re building along These bigger guys I’m trying to leave 2 to 3 blocks on most horn or if I’m not able to do that right here when we’re up against the wall you’ll see that when we’re coming in and building in this royal district of the light-blue here shortly that a lot of Those buildings I pull back a little bit farther from there so that we have this general idea of everything going on and then this part right here I really liked be able to come up with this one you’ll see that we’re using kind of almost like A split district it’s still gonna all be this royal quote royal district you could call it there but you’re gonna see here that we’re gonna kind of use some buildings and use some structures to make it so that the road doesn’t go all the way up to the top where they’d have To come back to the main road and snow that steep hill we’re gonna use to feel few buildings to block that off and then you can maybe have like a staircase or something right there but it won’t be something that you can necessarily have a cart going up so you’re gonna see this Coming in here soon as we’re kind of defining these last shapes you can see we’re making like pockets and pods of different buildings here together there everything’s kind of starting to work together and creating these walls like right here you can see that one really coming into play so people would have to Walk around the outside go back to the main road and then they come could come up to the top and jump back onto the inside here which i think is totally fine I think that’s something that would work out really well and I did want to Because this is supposed to be the royal district I did want to add in a larger structure here so we’re gonna be adding in another larger guy right there which could be again like another military structure or maybe the lord of this region are like a top merchant or Somebody this place doesn’t really have a castle or anything to it because it’s supposed to be a city and I figured you could build the castle on the outside so mostly going for larger manor houses up here so like the royal class whoever is leading the city from like the Day-to-day activities would be able to govern and do all that stuff from up here they die for their meeting places they’d have their own little market area it’s kind of reserved from everybody else and up here I really envisioned because the royal atmosphere they’d have A lot of space here and they’d want a lot of gardens so we’re gonna throw in a lot of trees up in this area which I think will help it out really really well and coming in here with these last final structures that’s pretty much the Whole city design I hope you all enjoyed this video taking a look at how to build out the villagers our wandering trader over there right above my head seems to absolutely love the merchants district what seem which seems pretty fitting over there he ran all the way from Old Town over the merchants district and does not want to leave anyways that is gonna have to do it for today’s episode I we all enjoy this one let me know what else you
