If you have ever seen one of my building videos you may have noticed that there is almost always a stage right at the beginning where a plan happens bright wool is spammed everywhere and then later completely replaced by buildings well what’s the point of that in this video i’m going to explain why And how i plan my mega builds let’s start by talking about the reason we need a plan planning gives you the ability to control the entire layout and lore of your creation forces you to think ahead to where you’ll need things to be and ensures less mistakes are made And speeds up the overall process it can really get you thinking about your build and i find it to be a really important step let’s begin by sorting out our terrain this is a very important first step and if you plan on including custom terrain in your kingdom or whatever You’re building definitely do it now establishing a good foundation for your build is really important get anything out of the way that might annoy you later on any ponds trees grass flowers whatever it is that you don’t want in your way remove it and get everything clean so you can start fresh This is really important don’t skip this step next we’re going to be placing our largest structure for me in this kingdom this is going to be a castle i start by marking this out in red i am color coding my wool throughout this and this Is something that i will do when i am doing larger kingdoms but on smaller ones i don’t always color code for this particular build my towers are magenta my walls are pink and my big main structures are red and orange for the castle i’m breaking it up into several Different buildings as you can see here this is going to help me a lot as i’m building and detailing this castle as it helps with me breaking up the walls into different areas and establishing lots of different towers throughout the entire area then i can start raising up the Height so i can tell where my towers are going to go and how it is actually going to look and sit on this cliff when i go back in to build it a little bit later on i’ll already have my heights established and i’ll be able to add Roofs in fairly easily this will make the entire building process just run a lot smoother the reason that i am establishing a height here rather than just laying out the base is so that from this view i can actually see exactly what’s going on i Can work on my line of sight as i’m building all around this mountain throughout the village and see exactly how the view of my castle is going to look from different perspectives now that the castle is established we’re going to turn our attention to the background where we are going to create A few lower walls this is going to for my kingdom be again another sort of military area so i have more walls and more watchtowers marked out and a big gatehouse that is going to be the main entrance into this sort of castle area on the inside i think about a couple of Buildings that i might want and i’m marking out these more important buildings in orange these could be a barracks an archery range maybe a place to keep horses or a place to store things here are some examples of buildings that could be important for you to lay around your kingdom now of Course there are a lot more examples than this especially when you think about all of the different themes in minecraft that you could be building in i recommend making a list like this one so that you can reference it later on and remember all of the lovely ideas That you had now that you have those ideas it’s time to find space for those in your build again these are my larger builds being marked out in orange they’re going to be like my market areas my stables some shops a bakery maybe a smokehouse Anything at all that is going to take up more space in your area should get priority right now and should also be placed properly on these paths my pads are marked out in green i have a retaining wall in red and you can see a church marked out on that lower district In the corner i’m really happy with my placements so now it is finally time to go back in and start establishing an actual village or town around these structures alright so we’re getting started with our houses here marking them out in yellow this is the sort of village where I’m giving them kind of all their own space to live this is the upper district so these houses are a little bit larger than i would maybe do in the lower district and they also have a lot more sort of quirks and shapes to them which i really like personally marking out Some gardens in lime green so that i know for sure i have space for greenery in this village that’s something that is very important to me then i mark out the height of my larger structures so once again i can get sort of that sight line Through the village and make sure that i can always see these larger structures no matter where i am in the village now we’re focusing our attention back down to the lower area these are going to be color coded differently because i’m going to be using a different Palette and house design on these the ones along the cliff are going to be different from the light blue ones and they are marked by a wall and they have a garden in that area for being close to the castle then we start going all around this Different church that we have here and doing just different shape sort of tiny houses these houses probably wouldn’t have much of a foundation and they would be pretty plain in detail but they are really packed in together and once they are all together on a build they make a big Difference and they do look good we’re also marking in the height of the church and establishing a farm off out to the side so now you have all of your wool kind of packed in you’ve decided where you want everything to go you have a list of Buildings that you want to build well this is where it gets hard isn’t it i mean we’ve placed the wall we have a plan what do we do next let me take you in game and walk you through some of the next steps that i would actually take Welcome to an in-game perspective of this plan i want to take you through what i am going to do next first of all let’s look at that line of sight that i was talking about this is our path that would eventually enter into my kingdom you enter through here and as you can See the perspective of our church that we have marked out allows us to only once the roof is on here you’ll only be able to see just the top towers of this castle but as we get closer to it we can see that it will eventually block out The entire view of the castle this is going to force our perspective as we wind around the path this way to slowly reveal that castle this is something that i really like to think about early on one because it makes for a really cool scenic walk through the village and Two because i have a youtube channel and doing cinematics is kind of important sometimes a similar effect is done here with this retaining wall if we picture this is a solid wall and then the grass coming flat up to meet it then as we turn around this corner we start to see Some of these bigger structures i have up here say this is a fancy tavern or inn and it’s built up really pretty we won’t be able to see it until we turn the corner we can also use this to see our line of sight for these important buildings this Is a circle here that would maybe have a fountain or a well and as we walk down this path or this path here we’ll be able to see which buildings are in our line of sight and which ones are not like this building right here is going to completely block that building in There this is kind of important for you to know as you’re building i feel like it’s good information to have especially if you’re wanting to go really in depth with the lore of your kingdom from here my next step would be to choose the palette that i would like to work at for My build so let’s do that now together i’m obviously going to be using quite a lot of blocks in this kingdom so the palette i’m picking out now is not like a strict set in stone thing it’s more like a general idea so i don’t forget the general direction that i’m going With this the first thing i want to know is my accent color i think i’d like to go with an accent color of red so we type red in what do we get we have a lot of options one of the options with stairs and slabs is this red nether Brick so i’m going to be going with that because it has stairs and slabs now let’s look at our other red blocks for example the red nether wart is a good option and red wool if you’re not sure how to make a little gradient like this Literally type in red or go through your red stuff anything that you see at all that is the color red and pull it all out so you can get a good look at it and then line it up something like this okay so you have your accent color now we Need some neutrals let’s start with the foundations these bigger structures up here are going to have thick foundations on the bottom those are probably going to be out of stone and luckily for us minecraft has quite a lot of zone options um we can go pretty basic here and a Site and cobble tends to work well we’ll also probably want to use stone brick at some point i’m not thinking about the castle right now if i was doing the castle i would set up a whole separate palette just for the castle it would include these accent colors but it would Have a lot of extra stuff as well right so there’s our foundation obviously the stairs and slabs of those are included okay so next up from our foundation is our wall these accent colors if you’re curious are going to be what i use on my roof and also any banners or flags that Are around so my wall is pretty plain and i’m going to want to keep it that way i don’t want to have like a green wall and then a red roof that’s going to be too christmassy you know i want i want neutral here my personal favorite neutrals are the mushrooms you could Also go with bone or quartz or any of the planks really work really well sandstone works really well there’s a lot of options in here that you could work with for sure but these are my two favorite for walls if you’re going to want your walls to have details then you Need to pick those out as well i’m also going to want to trim my roof in a block so i need a block for that and the wall details and the roof trim should probably be blocks that kind of go together so i’m going to pick some Neutral browns for me that’s going to be dark oak for around that red color because dark oak is going to go great with this dark red just like so and then some spruce and the spruce will be what we use around my wall detailing so this is a pretty basic Palette at the moment but this gives me a good general idea of what colors i want of course i do not strictly have to stick to these i can use whatever blocks that i have available to me in my inventory this just sort of grounds me In and reminds me what i am wanting to use you can set up a palette like this in each district that you are building in for example this one might be the one that i use in these yellow houses up here but in the lower houses i may not Use a foundation block and i may not use a nice white i might keep it more brown and maybe use a duller red accent color like the wool rather than the nether brick at this point i would probably start building pick a house that you Like and build it up and see what you think of all the details after that you can go around and kind of figure out where you need to go from there but establishing what you want for your details and your style is pretty important let’s do that over on this Building here this is one of our upper class builds so we’re going to do a thicker foundation on this let’s test that out alright so here’s an example of the foundation i think that looks pretty good so far and now we just need to work on the next Layer i’m going to get my pillar block i forgot to put this in my palette i added it afterwards sorry and just kind of start building these up once i have the general pillars worked out the next step i like to do is my roof putting my roof in right now Especially when you have a lot of these intersecting areas and more complex shaped builds helps me to not get confused as to where my roof connections are just generally keeps things being a lot more straightforward as you can see here if i didn’t mark this in this would Probably get a bit messy but now all i have to do is fill it in walls and roof are filled in now we can detail i like to do pretty simple walls on my medieval structures but a little heavier on the roofs in terms of detail So that’s kind of what i’m gonna go for here simple little underside yeah that’s looking way better all right there’s some details i’m not going to completely finish this because this is a how to plan a kingdom not how to build a house tutorial but yeah that’s kind of how i Would take it from these simple plans straight up into an actual house all you would have to do now is do this but for every single little spot which is a lot of work but in the end when every single house is original and detailed like this one it’ll end up Looking amazing and it’ll be so worth it in the end anyways everyone that is all for me thank you so much for watching this video and don’t forget to like and subscribe if you want to see more content like this i hope that this helped you out planning your mega Kingdoms or towns or villages whatever
