How To Farm Mob Heads! ▫ The Minecraft Survival Guide (Tutorial Let’s Play) [Part 263]

Hello everyone my name is pixel riffs and welcome back to the Minecraft Survival Guide I hope you guys are having a good day today come hell or high water we are going to be getting mob heads we need these guys down here to be charged we need these guys up here

To be connected to the charge creepers in some way but I am hopeful that this mob filtering system will allow us to get a few mob heads today and if it doesn’t then this video is going to come out a little bit later because I’m gonna try again tomorrow I think the best

Thing to do is really just to wait out the storm as it were and to make sure that we can get this whole thing set up in the meantime so today mob head farm absolutely guaranteed but also probably some sleep because these things have been whirling around my head for a

Little bit too long and I need to go and repair my Electra and reset my insomnia counter so I’m gonna dip back to the base real quick I also need to get a few more building materials so that we can do a little bit of work connecting the

Charge creepers up to the rest of these mobs we’ll need some rails and stuff for that of course so I think it’s probably a good occasion to get back to the base and you are absolutely kidding no sooner had I finished recording that last clip

And I swear to God I have not cheated this in there is a storm happening and I am scrambling to find my Trident please tell me I didn’t leave it yes okay alright I’m gonna aim this at the the charge creepers below and bingo did you see that that was an absolute bull’s-eye

And we now have a pool of charged creepers to work with thank the heavens thank Mojang thank whoever is responsible for coding thunderstorms because that could not have been better timing oh my days alright phantoms you are going away as of right now Ike yeah

I’m so happy that we’re able to get rid of the phantoms and oh my goodness yep right let’s do this let’s do this video I could not be more pumped right now let’s go so we’re back at the farm and I have a couple of shocker boxes worth of

Supplies which are hopefully going to be what we need in order to create a neat little system here that’s going to bring us a charged creeper and a zombie a skeleton or a creeper from our mob arrangement here and people yes have pointed out that this farm doesn’t really account for

Witches but to be honest because we’re not trying to farm the mobs too intensively and because a lot of the time the witches are probably just going to end up wandering into one cell or the other if a witch comes through here we can just deal with it individually but

Honestly you’re not gonna see which is spawning all that much randomly compared to other mobs I’ve been afk at the mob farm over my base for a while and I honestly don’t get that much witch loot from it so we can pretty much guarantee that we’re just going to be getting

Skeletons zombies and creepers the majority of the time so with the materials I’ve got here we should be able to make a few minecart tracks that are going to collect zombies skeletons and creepers from their individual cells and also bring up one of these creepers using probably some sort of bubble

Elevators so this whole setup is going to be a little bit of a Frankenstein getting the whole thing together but hopefully we should get it to a position where we can use it sort of efficiently and bring up one charged creeper at a time

– one mob at a time from over here and I think we’ll make it work of course for this we don’t need a bit more glass and a bit more rail the glass is really just so that we end up with transparent blocks that aren’t gonna spawn stuff

While we’re building on them and all of the powered rail are actually not gonna need all that much because my hope is that we can bring the charged creepers up through a bubble column instead of having them come up some sort of spiral staircase of rail and we’ll just need a

Short rail line from each of these cells we’re going to be bringing them out on a minecart we’re going to be breaking that minecart and forcing the skeleton creeper or zombie into a water stream that’s going to carry them down to a central point where we’ll be able to

Have them hang out next to the charge creeper and the charge creeper explosion is going to take care of the rest so we’ll need to do a little bit of careful flying and we’re going to plant a block of glass there on the corner I think we

Managed that I think we managed to get away with that one so if I come to arrest here yeah we’ll actually need that one block further down but that’s basically gonna be the thing that collects a zombie from the side here using a minecart let me just try and quickly

This there we go not going to let any zombies out today the other thing we’re going to need for this is a couple of activator rails which I will grab out of my redstone box now because ideally what we want to do is have the zombie or

Skeleton or creeper as it may be kicked out of the minecart at a certain point allowing the minecart to travel on break on a cactus and be reloaded into the systems so we don’t lose any minecarts in the process of doing this so the plan is we have a minecart dispensed on to

This block and the powered rail would probably already be powered because the thing that’s going to activate this is the dispenser firing in the first place so we put the minecart in there we turned that on the minecarts gets pushed out through the system and hopefully

Picks up a zombie along at one of these corners there will be enough zombies in the tank in theory that they can just end up getting like picked up through the corners nice and easily although I expect it might be a good idea to also have some sort of water dispenser in

Here so that you could push all the zombies to one corner and then not encounter that problem but in theory the minecart goes through here ends up connecting to that rail that rail leads it up to an activator rail which tips the zombie out now it’s a question of

Which direction the zombie leaves the minecart and for that I am probably going to have to place a couple of blocks here and ride the minecart myself so let’s place a minecart here and quickly get in it we travel up that way and we get left on this block while the

Minecart descends into the mass of charged creepers that we have down there ah might have to retrieve that gonna be a little bit tricky to do it but I think we’re gonna have to okay so you end up on this block is that just because it’s

The one on the level with the activator rail though because potentially if we put another block at the same level there is that going to have the same effect not quite certain about the rules that govern that yeah it’s put me out on this side now I wonder if we remove the

Blocks from around the outside of here and make this a block that you cannot get out of a minecart into because there’s a block above it then we should hopefully be able to ride the minecart around hit this activator rail and get ejected into the water below let’s see

If that works and oh no of course it’s putting me on the block in front of that because there isn’t a solid block for them to teleport to what if we send them through a transparent like this will that work then uh it’s put me on top of that I’m definitely

Losing a few minecarts in the testing process here I have never been quite this close to this much raw explosive power in my life and I think hopefully we should be able to gather all the minecarts up from here maybe we lost one in the melee of creepers down there

Maybe we’ll be able to collect that through the side I’ve also noticed that we are kind of ending up over the top of the charged creeper pen here which is not a great thing because we will need to make sure we avoid putting any blocks

Over that so it can still get struck by lightning so new plan is to power the activator rail from this site and then on this side will create the water trough basically right here so hopefully whatever gets ejected out of here will be ejected onto this side and that’s

Going to be where the water stream takes them into the next part of the farm let’s give that a try and see if that works hopefully oh okay yeah I guess we got to remove that block there as well yes okay that time it worked that time

And ejected me into the water stream which is perfect that water stream is going to continue on a few blocks and we’re going to have this last section of powered rail run over a hopper into a cactus which is going to break the minecart and the hopper is gonna

Hopefully collect it and we’ll be able to put it back in the dispenser that way so I’ll need some sand there with some cactus on top of it a block over the top of that to prevent any items from getting on top of the cactus and we can

Break those two blocks on the sides well these keep a block under there of course because sand is affected by gravity so breaking that would mean that the sand and the characters both drop but I think that should be good to go let’s see if we can test this out now so dispenser

With the minecart in it gets triggered picks up a zombie on the way past that gets put into there and should come back through to the dispenser and the dispenser only didn’t get the minecart back immediately because there was a lever on top of it powering it which

Powered the hopper next to it locking it so that’s all working just fine we’ll have that activated by an observer pulse eventually so that should just allow the minecart to travel around the circuit once picking up a zombie as it goes I am a little concerned about this corner

Section here being able to pick up a zombie in the first place though so I wonder if it’s going to be safe for us to maybe leave this open like that and maybe collect to go from the corner no that wouldn’t make sense because then we’d have to flood the area inside

That’s not going to work I think if we push the minecart from the side like that it’s more likely to pick up a zombie but then yeah we’re gonna need to rethink this area a little bit but it should hopefully be a sound idea the most important thing for now is

That when the zombie is in the minecart it’s gonna travel through here it’s gonna end up in this water stream and the water stream will carry it down to its eventual meeting with a charged creeper next of course we will need a similar setup attached to the holding

Cells for the skeletons and the creepers and while there’s none in there and I can make a few modifications it’s probably best that I get that done so we’re gonna go ahead and do that off-camera and I’ll see you guys on the other side okay so this absolute

Nightmare of glass and Stoppers and rails is now a pretty functional setup before collecting each of these mobs from the cells except for the zombie one which once again I am going to remodel a little bit I’ll grab a minecart so I can show you the precise trajectory that

Each one of these mobs is going to take the zombie one we know already but then we have over here if I can get up into the system here the one around the back here is the cell for creepers and so when we summon a creeper from the cell

Using a probably a note block observer line we’re going to activate this dispenser here which is going to dispense a minecart should hopefully grab a creeper through the corner here and that’s immediately going to come up here dump them in this water stream which is gonna take them down through

Here and it’s going to work a little faster for the mobs because they are not quite so heavy as players are by the same token we have the skeleton setup here and I kind of wish that one of those were standing close enough that I could push it into the corner end and

Actually demonstrate this for real because this one here is now going to be pulling out a skeleton if we throw down our last minecart these minecarts are going to be recycled back into the system of course if I throw down a minecart here and get in it then that’s

Going to dump me basically next to this water stream in more or less the same place and both skeletons and creepers end up getting dropped off by the same water stream while the zombies come from over here and we’re only going to need one mob at a time so it’s not going to

Be a huge problem having two things going down the same tube because remember one charged creeper will only get you one mob head no matter how many mobs it actually destroys meaning that it’s not really going to be worth our while to summon more than one

At a time hence need to drag them out one at a time using these mine carts of course you could simply have the mob farm out put into a cell next to the charge creepers and then blow up a whole bunch of mobs at a time and just take

Whatever skull you were given but if you want a specific skull from a specific mob it’s got to make sense to really go one by one and and separate them out like this although there might be a more elegant solution than this massive jumble maybe it’s just because it’s made

Of glass that it looks quite so hideous but yeah I feel like this is kind of a little bit excessive the next thing I’m going to do is make sure we can actually retrieve a zombie from the corner over here I might kind of tidy up this area

Slightly and then we’re going to create a central control platform from which we can activate any one of these dispensers which should in theory pull out any one of those mobs once we’ve got enough of them in the right place the central control platform is also going to be a

Place where we’ll be able to summon a charged creeper from our tank of charged creepers down there and then have the two of them interact using a flint and steel to set off the charged creeper and explode it now that’s gonna take a little bit of doing and bridging around

Here with glass or whatever material I used to bridge with is just going to be a bit of a pain so I am gonna cut away it one more time so that we can get all of that stuff set up and I’ll be back once I’ve done that so with a little bit

Of restructuring here I now have a few different things in place we have these lines of note blocks and observers which are now controlling each of these dispensers and unfortunately yes it does look like a creeper has gotten in there with the skeletons I did actually see my

First witch come down into this farm earlier but once again flying away and coming back has meant that a few of those have D spawns so we’ve also had to take care of the zombies and stuff as well just so I could get this block in and rearrange the rails attached to the

Zombie holding pen but hopefully all of this should still be working the way it’s intended to and the fun thing is when you’re down here on this platform I’m actually far away from the mobs spawning platform that I can spawn mobs while I’m standing here which is gonna

Be super great because while we have to charge the creepers manually and stuff some of the stuff in the background here can happen automatically without me having to afk in the same spot that I was meaning I can keep track of the amount of mobs that are in each of these

Tanks and act a accordingly so let me show you what happens when we activate one of these note blocks just by right-clicking on it like so that dispenser fires it pulls a minecart out with the creeper and then the creeper finds itself making its way down this water stream towards this area

Here and what that’s doing is combining two separate water streams so that the creeper is going to meet a charged creeper in the center here as long as it falls through this space okay yep perfect and then that should end up meeting up with the charged creeper

That’s gonna come up from the tank down there in this space and then I can right-click on the charged creeper with a flint and steel I’m pretty sure that the water here is going to prevent any explosion damage from happening to the blocks around it but on the off chance

That this whole set up is damaged we can always swap this out for blast-proof blocks like obsidian I’m probably also going to have to stand a little bit further away so I might widen this platform out a little bit to make sure I’m out of the range of the charged

Creeper itself I can come and stand over here maybe and as long as we don’t have any items in the area that might get destroyed by the charged creeper explosion we should be good to go but the same thing is gonna happen here if I

Try and call a skeleton as well there we go the skeleton is coming up through here and I wonder if that skeleton has a blast protection armor because it might be worth testing whether or not we can light this creeper on fire right here probably best to test this with a normal

Creeper before we test it with a charged creeper but imagine that creeper has come from at this water column here where it’s going to be coming up through a soul sand elevator let’s light this creeper on fire with the flint and steel step back and boom the skeleton gets killed

None of the blocks around here are destroyed the hoppers are all fine and the skeletons drops end up here in the chest which if that was a charged creeper would include a skeleton skull so the system is going incredibly well and I’ve brought a bed over here from

The nearby village so I can sleep through the night and avoid getting ambushed by phantoms now all that’s left to do is set up a similar system to what we have here with the rails picking up the mobs from their tanks using a minecart we’re gonna do that with the

Charged creepers and then we’re going to transfer them into a soul sand bauble column that’s going to bring them up here one at a time and allow us to introduce a charged creeper to the rest of the mobs like we just did with that creeper and the skeleton I’m so excited

To get this farm up and running I’m just gonna go ahead and do that off camera and then I’ll see you guys on the other side once we should hopefully have a working mob head farm okay folks it does need a little bit of tidying up but I think I might finally

Have this system sorted and there’s definitely a better way to do this which we might look into in a future episode but for now we’ve got another column of observers and note blocks here connected up to a similar minecart system that should hopefully now pull one of the

Charge creepers out of the tank down there and bring it up via this bubble column basically using the same setup that we had with the bubble column over there we’ve just got a slab leading into a cobblestone wall or a granite wall in this case a block further below and that

With two signs above it is allowing the creepers to flow into this bubble column you know what I’ve forgotten I’ve actually got to go down and fix one last thing because it doesn’t have an empty block at the back for the water to flow into so let me quickly stitch one of

Those onto the back here I do need to do a lot of cleanup around here because I’ve been using glass blocks as scaffolding basically everywhere which is an awful thing to do I don’t recommend it but it definitely has made sure that we can check nothing is going

To be spawn a ball back here I just need to make this one there oh good okay the one thing I’m worried about is water now flowing down and breaking all of this and breaking the redstone down there which is done multiple times at this

Point but now yes I think we should be all set all good to go and I’m glad I remembered that detail because otherwise that might not quite have worked as well as I hope it will there’s a few other things we could do like making sure those hoppers are covered up with

Something to reduce lag and to make sure they’re not spawn at all because I think the top surface of a hopper can occasionally be spawn a ball there is a guy throwing trident at me right now though so hopefully I can make it out of

A water yes there we go up to this platform I need to replenish my fireworks but most importantly I need to make sure that all of this is sealed off which it looks like it is and I think it’s time to give this a go can we call

A mob out of the farm yet why is there a zombie over there that really shouldn’t be okay let’s see if we can get a creeper first of all nope okay looks like the creepers aren’t packed in there quite tightly enough yet that’s fine the system will reset itself and then we

Should be able to get another creeper or skeleton or something like that yep looks like there’s a few creepers coming through the system now those should hopefully get pulled over to the left yes they are a one has one is overshot a little bit so maybe we

Need to rethink that system in the fullness of time but for now I think it’s okay if we just get the occasional surprise mob through the system here and there at least I can see it all happening thanks to the glass being there and in the meantime I’m gonna hit

This note block a right-click on that and see if this system activates the way it should they should take a second or two but yes we have pulled a charged creeper out he’s going through the water streams there this is like a Rube Goldberg machine or a game of mouse trap

Or something at this point but then a charged creeper is on its way up this is so so exciting and now if I try and get a creeper out of the machine over here yes okay this could be our first creeper head that we get out of the charged

Creeper mob head machine and hopefully we’ll be able to get a few more before the end of the episode I kind of want to get a little collection going here so with any luck this should be the first opportunity to get ourselves a creeper head and let’s light the creeper and run

Away whoa I think I saw it just then did you guys see that yes we have a creeper head in here the system works amazing stuff and hopefully if I can pull a skeleton out of the corner there yet we can call another charged creeper up and

We can try our best to get a skeleton skull out of this as well yep there we go one more charged creeper coming up we’re definitely going to have to put water sources in so that we can make sure we can use all the charged creepers

Here have them flow into that corner if we need them to which might mean another little redstone setup to activate a dispenser down there or we might just have a water source in there permanently let’s see if I can light this guy up real quick yep there we go he’s off and

That should be a skeleton skull as well perfect amazing stuff okay okay we got a little bit of gunpowder out of that as well not too shabby ladies and gents next up let’s see if we can get a zombie yep a zombie is on its way through the system

As well call up one more charge creeper from the bottom there there’s definitely a faster way we can do this we might try a little bit of wireless redstone in future hits see if we can get our zombie head first though the zombie is lingering on top there I’m wondering if it’s

Seeing the villager and trying to path fine towards it so maybe I should seal off the top of this zombie shoot that we have over here cuz I think ya might be able to spot the villager through whatever open blocks we have over there and that’s delaying it coming down here

But eventually it does let’s actually put a glass block there so I can run away slightly more effectively let’s get ourselves a zombie head hahahaha alright ladies and gents we have all three mob heads out of our charged creeper mob head farmer look at that look at that I’m genuinely really

Proud of this I haven’t been following anybody’s tutorial for this this is entirely of my own devising and obviously it’s not the best thing in the world but I think it does the job and that’s what’s most important about this for me let’s get another zombie head I

Feel like just farming these guys a little bit more before we wrap up the episode let’s get another charged creeper out of the tank amazing this all works spectacularly well I think one more zombie head in the bag yeah I really need a better solution to running

Away from the creeper explosion it’s a little bit precarious standing there even though I clearly have like blast protection and protection on all my armor a second zombie head comes through this is the most inefficient way or you can imagine of getting regular mob drops

But hey it gets us the stuff that we couldn’t get otherwise just to demonstrate the fact that you cannot get to mob heads at once from a single charge creeper explosion I am gonna call two mobs through so I’ve just picked up two creepers that are making their way

Through there now and we should have another charge boy coming up yet fantastic we are looking a little bit thin on the ground in the tank though now so I don’t think we’ll be able to get one through the corner of there until we have a water source pushing

Them in towards the left hand corner as you see it right there but notice when we set this guy off this time like so we should be able to run away it’s taken out both of the creepers but unfortunately only one creeper head drops and that’s the same if you have

Combinations of mobs if you have a skeleton a zombie and a creeper in there it’s just going to pick more or less at random which one drops the head I have a feeling it’s probably technically speaking which one a split-second before or maybe which is closer to the epicenter of the explosion

Or it may just be a roll of the dice but you’re only gonna get one head per charged creeper which is why getting a charged creeper farm together like this was so essential because you can’t just find a charged creeper law a bunch of mobs into the same area as it and blow

Them all up at the same time it don’t work like that folks but we’ve got two creeper heads we’ve got two zombie heads I feel like finishing this off with another skeleton skull and this guy over here is going to allow us to do that run

Away and at last we have ourselves two of each mob head we could get this way except of course for wither skeletons and that’s what this has all been leading up to as well sooner or later once I finish clearing out all that terrain in the nether which is probably

Going to still take me a little while but we can link up the wither skeleton farm to this charged creeper farm and we can bring the wither skeletons through into the overworld and explode them one at a time with charged creepers to get a 100% drop rate on wither skeleton skulls

Which effectively means then we can farm the wither we can farm beacons we can do so much with that and I can’t wait to do a little bit more on this project but that is going to be it for this episode of the Minecraft Survival Guide I hope
